We randomly stumbled into Kenosha Grill while wandering the cutest little mountain town, and wow -- what a gem. The bison meatballs were incredible, and the skewers were straight . Everything we tried was so good, but honestly, the staff is what made the whole experience unforgettable. We were sitting there playing games, and they jumped right in with us -- lots of laughs and such a genuinely fun vibe. You can find good food anywhere, but it's the people who make a place special. Upon walking in the door the ambiance was off. There were multiple staff standing around the host table chatting and we got the quick "hi, how many" with a side eye. Wasn't very busy, maybe 4 tables. They then asked inside or outside. It was stuffy and dark inside so we opted for outside and the hostess looks at us and says with a snared lip, almost in disgust, "ok, well if you get cold, just know you cant switch tables to come inside"... ummm ok, thanks. Fast forward, we had just gotten off the road from a 10 hr drive with 2 toddlers, surviving on beef jerky, pirates booty and water... hungry, tired and kids wound up. We just wanted to eat and go get cozy in our hotel for the night. Server took about 10 min to even come out to us, we weren't quite ready so she left without even a drink order. Another 10 min goes by and she finally comes back and laughs it off stating, "sorry I have a really talkative table inside... I was awkwardly trying to back away as they kept talking". Figured the Mile High Nachos were a great shareable for all of us and a side of fries because that's all my baby girl eats right now. Took another 10 -15 min or so to get our food, in which they were what I call "lazy nachos" when I don't feel like cooking... chips dumped from a bag topped with pre grated cheese. The tomatoes looked days old, dry and pale. The jalapeños were dry and cut so thick you'd thought you were reaching a pickle. There was no layering to the madness, and the grilled chicken was very familiarly similar to the store bought precooked salad chicken... the salsa bland and sweet. The fries... possibly fried multiple times, no potato left... petrified. Basically flavorless and almost inedible, we ate what we could to just get something in our bellies and kids off to bed. Sadly, we won't be returning. This place was a joke of a restaurant, given I could have bought a bag of chips, grated cheese and salad chicken breast, and made this in my hotel room for half the price. read more

This spot has been a consistent go to every year we get up to Breckenridge! On top of feeling like home, the upbeat atmosphere is always warming! To start, I had only heard of this place because they had posted in a beer group about having Pliny the younger on tap last year--so I knew they at least had a good beer selection. What I didn't expect was great service and amazing food with a nice cozy ambiance. My buddy and I nestled up to the bar and I the bartender, Lily, was very pleasant, patient and helpful as we looked over the menu. Came in for dinner on a Sunday evening with a very large party. They had us sit out back and told us we'd have to order our drinks/food form the bar, which was totally fine! My kids are generally picky eaters and both had chicken strips and fries. Both enjoyed and ate until they were full. I had the Tipsy burger which was very good and came out medium cooked just as I had ordered. The bbq sauce on the table has a good tang to it and getting a side of ranch for dipping fries was good as well. Some in our party had the Trout with crab stuffing on top and they said it was delicious. We're regulars to Breckenridge and in times past Kenosha was a frequent place to stop. Service was 10 out of 10 The main dish was terrible this time. We ordered the full rack of ribs and we got a full rack of pork jerky. The ribs were way over cooked. The mashed potatoes seemed like they were from the day before. The French fries, salad and service were the best part of the night. Bummed this old staple has fallen out of list of places we'll visit again for awhile. read more

Had lunch at Kenosha Steakhouse in Breckenridge this weekend. Our server was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and clearly trying to hold things together. Unfortunately, the manager outside seemed to believe being aloof was part of the brand. His attitude landed somewhere between "too important to bother" and "you're lucky to be here," which might've been funny if it weren't so tone-deaf. What made it worse was that both the patio and the inside were barely half full -- so it's not like they were overwhelmed. The food was fine, just not at the level Kenosha used to be known for.
