My service was provided by a guy who didn't know how to cut my nails, didn't know how to color.... My experience was very bad! My nails were chipping on the next day. STAY AWAY. I went for the Tuesday Mani/Pedi $25 special. Never going again. 1) The guy working on my nails (he looks like an Asian Napoleon Dynamite) has CREEPY LONG NAILS and he did not wear gloves...it was just gross. 2) During my pedicure he cut my nails down so short, so much so that I was scared he was going to hurt me, so when he was doing my mani I asked that he only file my nails. Well he did just that...except he didn't file them evenly. So now, I have four nails that are dramatically longer than the others. 3) He kept nipping fresh skin with the cuticle cutter and hurting me and when I'd say "ouch" he wouldn't apologize and once asked me "why does it hurt?" 4) He used the same cuticle cutter he used during my pedicure on my mani, which I wouldn't care too much about normally if it wasn't for the fact that he cleaned it by dipping it in the bowl my hand was soaking in... 5) Did I mention he had creepy long nails? read more

I have been here a few times. For nails it is okay, but I have had major issues with waxing. I got my eyebrows done here last year and not only was red for a week but the shape of my eyebrows was not what I wanted. They were incredibly thin and I like and have thick eyebrows. I decided to go back today because I was in a hurry to get my eyebrows cleaned up. I told the employee I like them thick and that I just wanted her to clean them up. Not only did she make my eyebrows incredibly thin - the ENTIRE shape of my brows are different. They are now curved when I walked in with them more square and the brows do not match each other at all. I am extremely disappointed and I will not be going here ever again. I was really nervous to try this salon after reading the reviews, but I wanted a pedicure before leaving for my winter break trip. Ann did my pedicure and she did a fantastic job. My toes look great and I was actually able to have a conversation with Ann. Finally, almost all nail salons really skimp on the scrub and massage part of the pedicure, but Ann did not! I will be returning and I hope others will give this place a fair try... just maybe not on a Tuesday. read more

My husband and his friend treated my best friend and I to mani/pedis. I don't really get this type of pampering done much but this was my first time visiting Heads & Nails. My friend and I had a decent experience - but I'm not sure I would go back unless I was in a serious pinch. Location couldn't be better. I can literally walk from my apartment, which is a big plus. The salon it self wasn't busy at all - we were the only two in there until the last 30 minutes or so - and the staff was super attentive and nice to us the while time. Color selection was decent and the nail shaping exactly how I like it! We both got gel mani/pedis and it was over $100 for us EACH. I was floored (but then again, I'm not very knowledgeable in this area, so it is probably just my ignorance). We are pretty sure there were some additional charges added, but the language barrier did not help us to understand what they may have been. After a few days, I noticed that the color on my toes, which had been unevenly applied in spots, had started to turn black/brown like it was bad polish. My fingernails hadn't changed and they were the same color, so I can only assume it may have been poor application or malfunction. It's progressively gotten worse and I plan to remove it this weekend, which is a shame for how much it cost. I'm actually embarrassed to go barefoot in my own home, let alone in public. Nice staff, but I'd probably pass on a return visit. read more

I loved this place. I was walking around the neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon and decided to stop by for gel mani-pedi . I didn't have an appointment and only had to wait for 5 minutes. If you go, make sure you ask for Lee. This lady are meticulous and she really take their time when it comes to working on your nails. You won't regret it though - she do a wonderful job! Worst mani/pedi I've ever had. Like other reviewers, I too took advantage of the free mani with pedi on Tues. deal at this nail salon. Thank god part of it was free. The younger man who did my nails was nothing short of terrible. I don't think he was formally trained,(in fact I don't remember seeing any licenses In the facility). It was a rushed job, I can do a better job polishing my toenails. He used no cuticle oil and his cuticle removal really hurt. When we got to the mani, I specifically told him I had sensitive cuticles and to be gentle. He proceeded to rip apart my nails and one of my nails got cut badly. Another tech had to finish the job. My nails still look rough. I have paid less money for better nail service at other salons in the area, I have paid more and that is usually worth the price, in fact I will probably go to one next week to redo it. (Regarding hair cut and pedicures) This place is truly a gem in the world of salons in Washington DC. First, they do an excellent job, there's never a long wait, and everyone is pleasant and friendly. Second, it is very fairly priced, border lining cheap for this area. If you get the opportunity to talk with Michael the main hairdresser, do yourself a favor and ask him about his education. You will leave with a lot more than what you paid for and a haircut. You'll leave with an education in whatever topic you might be interested in, and an inspiration for lifelong learning and the aspiration for excellence. I have had such a hard time finding a hairdresser that does exactly what I want to my hair, and Michael was very careful to make sure he did just what I wanted, and got it just right. Please be aware if you go to this place: 1. Do not let them use the scrub on your feet. 24 hours later and both of my feet are still red and sore, I even have scares. I thought that I developed some kind of allergic reaction so I called them to ask what kind of scrub they use and they hanged up. 2. The top coat they use is not fast dry and it took me 20 min under the air fan and still not completely dry. I asked if they had any spray or a heater that will help but they laughed and said no, just the airfan. read more

I've been going to this woman-owned nail salon for five years and have always appreciated what perfectionists the technicians are and how friendly they are. Like any small business, there are times when staff leave and new ones have to be trained but the owner who also works there, Hattie, is an amazing person and skillful nail tech who has a real passion for nails as a craft. This place was one of the biggest scams I have ever been a part of. We came in on a Sunday and it was completely empty and were greeted by two nail techs. We told them we wanted pedicures. After what was a great pedicure, they charged us $53 each not $33 like it was listed. They tried to explain in English this was because we got a "20 minute massage" so it was $20 extra each. We were never asked/told/explained to this extra charge and the language barrier was being used as a way to take advantage of us. I will NEVER go back there. I took advantage of the buy a pedi get a mani free on Tuesdays (total $25) and was NOT impressed. Fastest mani/pedi ever, the technician rushed through everything. She was literally tearing off my cuticles! So painful! On my manicure, I told her what shape I wanted and to trim but they are still way long. She took her time painting my nails, so I was pleased about that, but their dryers blow out hot air and after 10-12 minutes my fingers were still soaked. I left and and continued drying them at home, and they all bubbled up! Tons of little bubbles in the polish...it looked so terrible I had to take it all off. SUCH a waste! read more

The spa pedi was worth the extra ten bucks for the tingling lotion alone. I have been in the pool for a few days and my mani and pedi are still in tact. You'd expect this place would be cheaper than others since the place is kind of sketchy, but that's not the case (my manicure was $18). They have a very limited selection of polish color and the place doesn't feel welcoming or relaxing at all (being underground doesn't help). My manicure was fine but they didn't do much besides paint my nails so I didn't feel pampered....which is a big reason to get a manicure, ya know?! I've repeatedly tried this nail salon and was disappointed each time. They use old nail polish bottles and pretend that the glue they paint your nails with is normal. They water down all their Essie bottles, to the point where once your nails are dry, they have lines on them. Try to avoid this overpriced nail salon! read more

HORRIBLE! Do not waste your time or money. I completely agree with the other review. Let me walk you through my experience. I walk into the nail salon and right away I am pretty impressed. They APPEAR to be clean and have a nice selection of colors. I sit in the chair and the guy comes over. He must of had zero training because he had NO clue as to what he was doing. He did not know how to do anything. I basically had to walk him through the pedicure. At one point I even had to show him and paint my own toenails. As we were finishing, another woman was complaining that her technican had cut her fingers so bad that she was leaving (she left after only one hand and I later saw her coming from CVS with bandaids on every finger). I only had him do the pedicure and refused the manicure. As he gave me my total, which was supposed to be $22.50 with the student discount he rounded up to $23 telling me that they didn't care about "cents" at this salon. I paid the guy and as I was leaving I heard another customer complaining about their paint job. Here are the added bonuses: there were no licences on the wall, the instruments were rusted (how do I know this... because I was doing my own pedicure), and the towels smelled like mildew. Today was my 3rd time at the salon. The two previous times I had Haidi and she was great but she is no longer working for them. My coworker went couple times and said she will never go again. The technicians are just not trained/experienced at all. On Tuesday they have a bargain special - padi & mani for $25 so I went at my lunch hour. And I'm done with this "salon". I got a young skinny guy with big glasses. He was so annoyed he had to do it and did a poor job. My foot massage was a quick squeeze of each food and a lotion spread. Clipping and cuticle removal was a bit painful (afraid to look down I might be missing a toe). I would probably do my finger nails better.. I accidentally hit the fan with my pinky and he had to re-do the nail and looked like I was the worst demanding customer he's ever had. When done he let me sit at his desk by the fan and went to chat with his co-worker without a word and just walked away. Came back with a soda so I'm assuming he just did a quick run to CVS. I grabbed my tip of the desk and walked away and will not be back.. not worth the $25 anymore. read more

Please don't go here I've been several times and each time I regret it but when I'm in a rush it's usually convenient because it's the closest place to me. However this time I left vowing to never ever go back. I spent 83 on a gel mani and pedi. I tipped $10 because I couldn't fathom tipping any more as that would essentially mean I spent $100 getting my nails done which is totally ridiculous. My pedicure was terrible to say the least but my nails were okay, however cut too short. I've been to many nail places over the years and I've never left feeling so dissatisfied as I do when I leave this place. It's hard for me to complain about small businesses like this but they need to get it together and hire people who actually know what they're doing. Until then I'm staying away from this place. Probably one of the worst pedicure experiences I've ever had. I went into the salon being very hesitant because of all the other negative reviews I read but decided to give it a chance anyway because of its convenient location. I didn't have a lot of time and went in on a Saturday morning. Since there was no wait, I thought I would be in and out very quick... I was wrong. I was there for over an hour and more than half of the time was spent with the technician painting and repainting the white line of the "french" polish. It was one of the most bizarre experiences and inefficient things I've ever seen because the guy painted my entire toe white and then used nail polish remover to take off everything except for a thin white line. After he finished one foot, he took all the polish off and started over. I should have just walked out when he took the polish off. I guess next time, I'll listen to the other reviews. read more
