Never ever stopped here. Did today and I felt like I was in a sort of nirvana. I took my time despite being eyed but many are stealing and they have to be careful. Didn't think I'd buy anything at first but then I couldn't resist brands I never heard of and others I buy online. I had been an Elm patron since the day they opened their doors, stopping in at least once or twice a week to grab healthy eats. It was nice to see the same, friendly face of the security guard over the years, seemed like a nice guy. But at some point things got weird, the last two times I visited I was stared down by one of the employees, who conveniently positioned himself at the end of the isle while I shopped in produce, and stared at me for (I kid you not) 10 minutes straight. I had on yoga pants and workout gear. I mean, what was it that he had in his mind, that I would do! Stuff a plantain down my yoga pants???? I stopped patronizing Elm Wellness after that and switched to Lifethyme, where I wasn't treated like a criminal-while-shopping. But it doesn't end there. I happened to stop into Elm one more time to grab a soy cheese product that my usual was out of. Again, because you can't make this up, I must stress how blatant the racism that I experienced was. But while I stood at the refrigerated section looking for the Daiya products that I was there to grab, the owner himself, Ken, came from his office, out to produce, to stand there and pretend as if he was fiddling with a cardboard box, all while intensely staring at me making my consumer decision. For as long as I stood there, he stood there. And stared at me. Like I was the creature from the Black Lagoon in person, shopping in his pristine little store. No more. I never went back after that. When I go to this wellness location, I get lost in the selection sometimes it's hard picking just lemongrass water so I get all four options. The service is fast as always but I asked for a job because they was hiring in they lied to me about the job being filled. Ambiance is very upscale they have Seamoss theat made me poop for days the quality is pretty amazing at this location. I get chocolate from here, kombucha, olives, cereals, teas from the cold selection, they have this huge selection of vitamins that I tried and I still come here every now and again but darn it I really wanted to work here. read more

Whenever I need anything herbal/health/organic related I stop by this place. Staff members range from very helpful & nice to annoyingly stalking you around the store even if you frequent often. On the plus side, they have an awesome selection of fresh fruit and a great juice bar. Nothing here is really cheap (neither in price nor quality) but when they have deals, they're too good to miss. Used to be my go to for quick food shopping...no more. Once too many times i bought food that was past their sale date. Additionally, the number of dogs and rude dog owners that allow their dogs to run wild and lick the veggies, etc is to common place. Last time I was there I saw a women with two dogs both licking apples and a store employee just looked and said nothing even though it is both unsanitary and against the law. I guess this is a store for dogs, not people...be safe. read more

I was coughing early morning and suddenly I heard a voice behind the juice bar that immediately recommended a "Singer's Cider made out of cayenne , Ginger, Lemon, pear and grapefruit! Stumbled upon this place while killing time in Chelsea and ended up leaving pleasantly surprised! I had recently spoken to my trainer about vitamin supplements - what I should be taking, what I can rely on food for, what will help with muscle recovery, etc. She gave me a few suggestions/brand names to look out for and just a few hours later, I saw a store that seemed promising - Elm Health. It was Memorial Day, so the store was tumbleweed empty. This worked to my benefit, because a sales associate spotted me soon after I started cluelessly scanning the rows upon rows of vitamins/supplements/remedies/etc. With the little information I had from my trainer, I was able to find a women's daily multivitamin made exclusively from food (no weird ingredients you can't pronounce) and some magnesium concentrate oil thing (you can put it in juice/shakes/etc) for muscle recovery. They have whole sections for the brands that my trainer had recommended, so I'd say this place is definitely well-stocked. I was also happy to find that Elm Health carries a lot of items that I can typically only find at my local health food store (the Health Nut), so I did a bit of extra shopping as well. I recently made the switch from olive oil to coconut oil for cooking, which was only made possible by the impressive selection of coconut oils here. This grocery is amazing, they have all the fresh produce u need and it's a grocery store that makes it EASY TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS. They don't bombard you in aisles stacked with high fructose cornsyrup like all other grocery stores. Do your body a favor and just shop here. My all time favorite pharmacy. Going to several big box chain pharmacies for quite some time, the pharmacy staff here is the nicest, most helpful, and most attentive I have ever been to. Elena, Eva, and Fernando are the absolute best! Anytime I have a question/ consultation about my medications or any vitamin/ supplement, they always point me to the best and most cost efficient option. You can tell they are here because they love to help, and are not just looking for outrageous co-pays. The smoothie bar is also amazing. Get the nutty- dream smoothie. This place is both a pharmacy and a natural food store; the pharmacy is based more on the European model of offering both allopathic and homeopathic medicines. At the back is a prescription center, but most of the store is devoted to both natural food and homeopathic medicines / natural remedies. I recall when they were located on First Avenue at 16th street; they seemed to concentrate more on health and beauty aids--with some food items--at the time; also, they were called "Elm Drugs." This location has a great selection and pretty good prices. So I'll trek over to 7th avenue and 14th street if there's a product I can't find at my local food store; this place is extremely well-stocked. I'm surprised that I'm only the 2nd person to review Elm Drugs! More people should know about this convenient, well-stocked, and friendly neighborhood drug store/ market. #1- Greetings at the door! Every time I enter and exit here, I am saluted at the door. There's a 99% chance the door will be opened for me by an Elm employee. It may feel like the twilight zone in comparison to the requisite coughs in the face at Duane Reade, but pinch me - it's true. #2- The most efficient Pharmacy.... in all of New York?! Alright, not quite. The pharmacy closes at 7:30 on weekdays, which stinks. BUT they fill your prescription in M-I-N-U-T-E-S. Minutes! 5 minutes is the longest I've ever waited! And, probably due to the fact that no one seems to fill their prescriptions here, they tend to have medications that are always out of stock at Duane Reade and CVS. If you've been to Duane Reade's pharmacy recently and grown tired of their slow-as-molasses computer "upgrade," I'd consider switching to Elm. The pharmacy gets 5 million stars in my book. #3- Friendly service At the pharmacy, at the checkout counter, in the aisles... everyone is really kind. And fast. I leave feeling so much better than when I go to other drug stores. #4- Not the place for all your groceries Although Elm has a wicked frozen food section, this is not the place for all your daily groceries. It has more health food related, specialty products, but lacks the essentials that would make this my go-to market. Also the produce selection is pretty small. Hmmm...yep, a recent Groupon deal brought me here, but an expired product will keep me from returning... Given the relative 'newness' of the location I mindlessly assumed that shelved products, particularly the refrigerated ones, would be fresh (or as fresh as such products can be: cough, cough). Yet, last night (8/12) I somehow purchased guacamole that expired in June. Unfortunately, it took a couple bites to realize the nasty taste (GAG) wasn't necessarily an inferior product but a spoiled one. Yeah, I should probably be flogged for even thinking of buying prepackaged guacamole, but there it is... When I phoned regarding a return, I was informed it was 'store policy' to provide a gift card (not a refund) regardless of the reason for the return. Why the heck would I want a gift card for this store after such a poor experience? You'd think the store would be more than willing to refund me for a rotten, out-of-date product the shouldn't have sold in the first place. Bottom-line: AVOID or, at very least, if you feel the urge to buy these overpriced and possibly out of date goods, realize that you need to check all expiration dates as the store obviously does not. read more

If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. I went to the pharmacy today and brought my prescription and the pharmacist was the most unprofessional one that I have ever encountered. He took my prescription and kept touching it and checking it as if it were fake...repeatedly. Looking at me then looking back at the prescription finally I said to him this is a real prescription and he shook his head and said i do not carry this go somewhere else. I was shocked at how unprofessional this entire ordeal was and I would also think a real pharmacy would have a substantial way of checking prescriptions other than a rude man rubbing his thumb on it and shaking his head. I am a local and will never ever go back here. I need a pharmacy who will serve its purpose not cast guilt. They should look into hiring more professional individuals. read more

Elm Health is a great alternative grocery store when I'm looking to purchase organic, vegan or health foods. It's also where I go for my prenatal vitamins, herbal oils and smoothies or juices. The store is kept very clean and well stocked. The produce that's available is hit or miss (although this isn't surprising because the same can be said for the other health food grocery store in the area, Integral Foods). I love the juice and smoothie bar. The staff gives out samples of new juices on a regular basis, and it's easy to watch your drink being made. The only gripe I have is that the same gloves that are used to handle the cash register, receipts, etc. are also used to handle the fruits and vegetables that are put in my drink. So while they're definitely trying to be sanitary, there is a component that's missing. Obviously, you won't get any meat products here, but anything else you could want is available: frozen foods, drinks, cereals, snacks, fruits, pastas and sauces ... even products for children. They also have a natural beauty section, which I haven't used personally, but looks really nice. Overall, I think Elm Health is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood grocery store options, and one that you should definitely visit, even if you're not vegan or a health food nut. read more

I have been a customer of Elm Health since week one when they handed out cloth shopping bags with their logo on them in green and yellow! I have mixed feelings about my experiences there so I give them a four star. The security guys at the door are friendly. The manager was friendly, respectful and held to the store's policy over $1 coupon that the cashier neglected to deduct from my total order of @ $150. When i brought the coupon back in to apply to the next purchases, another @ $120, the manager required a receipt from the first purchase. I thought really? I am here every two weeks buying hundreds of dollars worth of food. You can't give me credit for a one dollar? I respected her rules but it actually hurt my feelings. Ridiculous I know but it makes the difference between keeping a valued customer and following the rules. I love the cashiers and the people behind the coffee/smoothie counter. The guys who stock are friendly and recognize me when I shop. But after the manager refused me the respect I felt I deserved and earned, i went to Garden of Eden, Whole Foods and West Side Market for months because it felt better to stay away. But I will be back eventually after all, she was just doing her job. All in all, I am glad the market is there and love supporting organic shops. Also the pharmacy is a huge plus. I've been working around the corner from this spot for about two months and just walked over there to see if they carried hemp seed oil (they do). The staff was all super friendly and welcoming. I wish the prices were lower but that has nothing to do with them; it's just the way of the world that more natural products cost more than the mass-produced chemical stuff. What a miserable excuse for a pharmacy. My physician sent in an order last week. Yesterday, I went to collect my meds, which I need rather urgently. I was told they had nothing for me. Today, I received a voice mail message asking that I come in to pick up my medications. I called the store. I was told that there is nothing for me to pick up, that the person who left the message does not exist, and that I should have a good weekend *click*. Clearly, this is a matter for the State Board of Pharmacy, and my clinic needs to sever its ties with Elm. You, dear reader, would be well-advised to find a different pharmacy, since Elm seems determined to put itself out of business. read more

This store should be a template for ALL other health oriented establishments!!!!! It is a little piece of heaven in a sea of devilish chain pharmacies. It's run and operated by one, the most knowledgeable, professional and nicest young lady who has been at this pharmacy from the beginning. They will fill your prescriptions in a timely manner. Also, they actually have workers who answer the phone rather than listening to an automated service. West Elm is far superior to chains like Duane Reade, CVS, it has everything one would need from a Drug store as well as a full on wellness grocery store with amazing produce prices. All this, and yet it still feels local, quiet, and quaint. How they manage to achieve this perfect balance I do not know. Also they have a juice press!
