I decided on Chinese Massage because it was relatively nearby and had okay reviews (or any reviews, for that matter). Though they accommodate walk-ins, you can book online (however from other reviews, it appears they don't track their online booking system well). I booked an appointment 15 minutes out, just in case, and headed over there. It's located in a strip mall off of Eubank, just north of Constitution. Upon entering, no one was upfront, but someone came to greet me. The language barrier was quite significant and she didn't seem to understand when I said I'd booked online. She understood I was looking for a one-hour massage, so she directed me toward the back into a room with a floor lamp that had a disconcerting red light bulb, security camera monitors glaring down over the massage table and curtains along the back wall that covered what appeared to be something like rice paper wall/room divider. She then told me that I had to pay before the service, which I have never been asked to do at a massage business. I was uncomfortable doing so (especially since I typically use cash when dealing with smaller massage businesses, because I've had a few experiences where they "highly encourage" you to NOT use your credit card, so they can avoid merchant fees....and that conversation is also uncomfortable). That said, Chinese Massage does offer the option to pay with credit card. As for the massage, all I had to cover myself was a bath towel. The massage, for the most part, was lackluster. It was mostly rubbing oil along my contours, but no actual muscle manipulation. My massage therapist also left at least twice to go answer the front door. She did a decent job when it came to my hands, feet, and scalp. Afterwards, I was offered a bottle of cold water. Finally, the cost was $60 for the hour. While relatively inexpensive as far as many massage spa/facilities are concerned, I don't feel like I got $60 worth of relaxation.

A few minutes later, my massage therapist came in. Before she began, I explained that I was experiencing a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders and asked if she could focus on those areas. She replied, "Yeah." Unfortunately, the massage was not what I expected. It became clear to me that she did not seem to have the techniques I would expect from a licensed massage therapist. Much of the session felt like repetitive rubbing rather than purposeful therapeutic body work. Throughout the 105 minutes, she repeatedly left the room, which made it difficult to relax or enjoy the experience. The facility itself was clean, and she was pleasant and kind. However, I left feeling exactly the same as when I arrived, which was the most disappointing part after investing both the time and money in a two-hour massage. As I was leaving, she told me, "You already paid for your massage. You just have to tip me." I was caught off guard and asked, "Excuse me?" She used a translation app on her phone and repeated the same statement. I felt very uncomfortable and, although I tipped anyway, I left feeling pressured rather than appreciated. If you're looking for a relaxing spa experience or need therapeutic body work to address muscle tension, this may not be the right place for you. As this is meant to be a relaxing treatment, I expected things to progress at a moderate pace, but due to the lateness of my start, perhaps they were looking to speed up service? The scrubbing felt quick, a bit harsh and not at all relaxing. Plus the facial portion ended up with products in and around my eyelids. It began to burn, but thankfully we were near the end so I just suffered through. Once the service was completed, they quarter blow dry your hair and keep encouraging you to "touch it! Isn't it so soft". No, it literally feels like dried noodles and completely stripped of oils. My hair turned out limp and lifeless.
