Good selection of beer and largely very friendly and helpful staff. My only beef is that for the most part they don't put prices on their beer. On several occasions I've grabbed a new 4-pack of an interesting looking DIPA only to suffer the sticker shock of seeing it ring up at $22.99 (or whatever). They used to put pricing stickers, the old school way, on everything, but now it's hit and miss. So, Healthy Spirits...how about you provide beer prices without customers having to ask or get a price scan? read more

Walking into this place gives me an endorphin rush. So many possibilities. If you want to pick up a six-pack of Sierra Nevada, go to Safeway. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I would suggest to go here if you're looking for something new and interesting- forget your run of the mill purchases here. If you want bulleit bourbon, buy it at trader joes. It's cheaper there too. But if you want to try something new or get some excellent advice on what will become your new favourite drink, ask the friendly staff for some advice. And buy some of those bubbies ice cream mochis. This is a great liquor store overall and in particular it has one of the best beer selections in the city. This is especially true if you are looking for good and hard-to-find imports. I used to be a big fan of City Beer, but now that that place has grown a lot, its beer selection has gotten less interesting, with almost nothing but US, and especially California, craft beers. Those are great, but there is great stuff from abroad, too, and Healthy Spirits is possibly the best, currently, for such beer. They have some good US craft beers, too, and more. read more

The best thing to happen to this side of SF in a long time. The sign out front says "Beer, Bourbon, and Hummus", and indeed Rami has one of the best selections of micro-brews you'll find anywhere, the largest selection of bourbon I've ever seen, and homemade hummus made by his mom. As if that weren't enough, he's also got a very nice selection of wines. Stopped in here, was wowed by the selection. Lots of great options whether you like Belgian sours or West Coast IPAs. The salesperson I spoke to made some excellent recommendations and I will definitely head back soon. I was really impressed with his knowledge. It is 5:59 am, 1st july 2012...I went 10 minutes ago on this shop to buy ice cream for my daughter. The thin guy was very rude to me. He did not help me find the flavor I was looking for, neither he had any clue if it was still in inventory. He told me that he would appreciate if I don't come again. That was very disrespectful!! Oh man, this place is DANGEROUS. When I heard they were opening a location on Clement, after being a longtime fan of their Castro store, I feared for my bank account. I literally cannot walk by without buying one of their many delicious temptations. Like one of my favorite organic beers, MORPHO, locally brewed by Mateveza with yerba mate, hibiscus, and bay laurel - so fruity and refreshing! Not to mention their frozen treat selection like those highly addictive Talenti sorbets...dude, the Salted Caramel? Ugh. I can't even describe how completely orgasmic it is. In my opinion this is the best shop in the City for whiskey/bourbon, and it's also one of the tops for beer selection as well. The staff are very knowledgeable and have never once steered me wrong. I was born and raised a few blocks from here and was excited to see a spirit store in the neighborhood. However I don't think I'll be shipping here much unless they carry something exclusive, which they often do. I'm a scotch nut, and one of my qualms with this place is that they have all the liquor behind the counter and without prices. This means that every time I want to look at a bottle, I have to ask, inspect and check it out to see the price. It's hard to shop for items this way. They seem to have a great selection of beer available that's easy to peruse freely, unlike their harder spirits. Another issue is that the sun seems to bear down right on the area where the whisky is located (tip: whisky doesn't like the sun). If I'm buying a 160 dollar of scotch, I'm not going to take any chances. Another big issue is that this place simply isn't price competitive. Bottles here are consistently about 10-15 bucks more than D&M liquor, and about 30 bucks more than K&L wine. I want to love this place but they need to do a few things better: make an online marketplace with real time inventory, become price competitive, and make it possible to peruse the items without needing so much staff assistance. read more

This location of Healthy Spirits is usually out of my way and I had never been inside. A while back I received a gift card and was told it had to be redeemed at the location where it was purchased (come on folks, you should change that). So I finally made it over here and I could not be happier with my experience. I was searching for a good bottle of Mezcal and the clerk (sadly I didn't catch his name) was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the product he's selling. After a while I finally made a decision and went to the front counter to pay. Long story short: the bottle wasnt in the system and the clerk first called his manager on his day off ( sorry boss) and then another Healthy Spirits store to find out what the price was. I felt like he was really trying to get me the best customer experience possible and I went home with the bottle I chose. If you're in the neighborhood, this should be your go to specialty store. read more

When Healthy Spirits opened up right up the street from me, I thought "Oh no, this is going to be trouble!" I'm a huge Belgian Ale fan, and this place specializes in them, as well as a good cross selection of other great beers. I was getting tired of driving up to BevMo, so having Healthy Spirits 1/2 a block away sounded like a perfect addition to the neighborhood. The crew has always been really friendly and seems like they know their beer. Another plus is parking on this section of Clement St. is usually good. However, as much as I always try and support local Mom and Pop stores over big chains, the prices healthy Spirits charges pose a serious challenge to my philosophy. My favorite beer, that I was paying $12.49 at BevMo runs $14.99 at Healthy Spirits, which is 20% more! Even Andronicos, which my wife calls "Astronomicos", is cheaper! While I still shop there when I'm pressed for time, if I'm not in a rush and am buying a few other items, I make the trip to BevMo....I do feel a little guilty though. read more

Probably my favorite place in my neighborhood. The selection is great, in large part because it rotates quite often. If you're someone who wants the same thing week to week, this might not be the place for you - they carry some beers regularly, but it seems more often are trading out for new stuff. I love trying out new beers, so it's great for me. Staff are always super helpful as well, plus they sell this super spicy salami that is great with a cold beer. read more

Healthy Spirits stands true to their motto, proudly written on the outside of the store: Beer. Bourbon. & Hummus. That, and a few bottles of wine is what you'll find here. I've wandered into this store quite a few times while living in this neighborhood. They have a better selection of craft beer than any convenience store around this area, especially for those hard-to-find varieties. A lot of the beers they have are mainstays, but I've noticed they tend to circulate others a lot, more than likely due to seasonality. Also a great place to pick up some picnic goodies and head out to GGP for the day because they have hummus and accouterments, also good ICE CREAM. The people who work here are really knowledgeable about the products. Things I have bought and enjoyed here: -Magic Hat #9 : native Vermonter over here! I always appreciate when someone carries Magic Hat beers. I only wish they could get some of the better varieties like Blind Faith, which are seasonal AND harder to find out West. -Off Color Brewing Fierce: I was desperately trying to find this sour Weisse after having it on vacation in Denver. They had it when I went last year, no longer in stock now :( -Russian River Damnation: a true mainstay. If only RR bottled more of their seasonal beers! I know it's harder to get Pliny & Blind Pig delivered, so I won't harp on Healthy Spirits 'cause I know that struggle. -many delicious white/rose wines! This selection tends to circulate a lot and I am all for that! The prices are more on the $$-$$$ side but it's better than a headache from some 7-11 wine. -they have those Sophia Coppola individual cans of champagne with the sippy straws. YASSS. If you're in this hood (or as I understand, they have a Castro outpost as well) stop by for some libations and snacks for a good time all around. read more

Stumbled upon this gem while walking to lunch. If you want a specialty beer, wine, bourbon or scotch, this is the place to go! Prices are reasonable and you get what you pay for. The guy that was working there was studying to be a cicerone (beer expert, like sommelier for wine) and was also knowledgeable about scotch. And he was cool and interesting to talk to. This is such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I'm more into the beer side of things than the scotch, but they're great at both. The staff is very knowledgeable & helpful in finding interesting things: A few months ago, I was looking for a malt-driven, porter-like dark beer with fruity notes and a wine-like mouthfeel, and they recommended this crazy thing from the Lost Abbey brewed with sour plums. Then just the other day I was looking for a domestic sour beer, something akin to a Flanders red ale, only to have it pointed out that they have a refrigerator section full of such beers. Amazing! My review has nothing to do with the beer side of things since I'm more of an whiskey enthusiast. With that being said the selection is alright I guess, nothing to write home about but nonetheless a couple of decent bottles to choose from. Even if they are a little higher on the suggested retail of said bottles. Anyways My main issue is that within the last week I spent about $1,000 bucks here, which is around my weekly fork out on whiskey bottles. 3 bottles one day, 3 bottles the next and when I went in today to purchase another nice handful of bottles I asked since I've been buying quite a few of them and intend to "buy a bunch " today are there any discounts? If they would have just said straight up "no" I could have stomached that but they said "ok if you buy 6 we will give you 10% off" I said "well I'm buying 4 today so in theory these will make 10 since I've bought 3 everyday and now 4 today" they said they couldn't do it. Now I don't mind paying full retail in which I always do but when someone nickel and dimes me when I've purchased $1000 of their product in less than a week it makes me think of all the other whiskey stores in the great city of San Francisco that will appreciate my business and money more . Mind you I've done recent transactions at numerous liquor stores that don't mind working deals . My opinion is this store is more geared towards the "hipster" type and entry level whiskey/bourbon person who probably doesn't know much about what they are buying in the first place not that the people who are selling it here knows much more.so with that being said spend your money where it will be appreciated like at kl wines on 5th&harrison or the wonderful royal liquors on Polk. read more

I hope in the future they can expand a little and have a place to just sit around and drink several of the numerous beers they carry.
