This is absolutely some of the best gumbo I've ever had. The flavors were literally eyes-rolling-to-the-back-of-my-head type of good. Unfortunately, Yelp did not eat first with this one (I didn't get to take a picture of it). It came with a grilled cheese and potato salad! All the pricing online is accurate, there is street parking right in front of the restaurant with outdoor seating, and the food came out very quickly. I wouldn't really come to this restaurant to hang out with friends for a dinner since it's kind of small. But it's definitely one of those places that if you're in the area and wanting to pick up some soul food, you should DEFINITELY come here and get some.

There's no way that the wings that you guys are providing are THIS SMALL. These are the smallest "wings" I've ever seen in my LIFE. Complete ripoff.

After a long day of travel to get to NOLA, I was too pooped to go out and hit the streets tonight for dinner. Ordered DoorDash from HDK on the cred of the many positive Yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. Tried two dishes, as I couldn't settle on one. The fried fish and shrimp were outstanding! Loved the dipping sauce and the seafood was cooked perfectly. The fish fillet was about an inch thick and so moist and flaky. Yum! Not sure I loved the fries with the crawdat sauce - they were a little salty. This ff dish kinda gives poutine vibes with the gravy. The Superdome was also tasty. I liked the fried fish better than the blackened, but the mashed potatoes and corn and sauce draped over the fish was rich and delicious. This fish was much thinner and a little chewy. I'd love a hybrid of Superdome using the thicker fried fish. Bread pudding was my dessert, warm and dripping in caramel/brown sugar sauce. I had to restrain myself from eating the whole thing! This was a perfect way to start my visit to the Big Easy.

We dined at quite a few restaurants during our stay in New Orleans; however, this hidden gem was hands-down the BEST (we even recommended it to our Uber driver!). The restaurant is tiny, but don't let that fool you: the portions were plentiful, and the taste was unlike anything I've experienced before! Quick and friendly service, southern hospitality. It's definitely on our list of places to visit when we return!

Absolutely insane food. Definitely suggest getting a little bit of everything and sharing if possible. Portions were extremely generous, especially considering the level of the food. The gumbo is probably some of the best I've had right after my maw maw's. I got it as a side, because I had to have it, and easily could have made it two meals. If you had to pick one dish to try, the Bourbon Street Love was phenomenal. The employees were so sweet and helpful. There was a nice breeze out and some shaded tables so we decided to enjoy everything outside. In such a foodie city, Heard Dat Kitchen was a real highlight of the trip. Just wow!

There's a lot of good food in New Orleans but there's only one heard dat kitchen. I found this spot on accident 5 years ago and it's been blessing me and my homegirls ever since! It's a little hole in the wall spot that probably can't hold more than 6 people inside so you know the food is going to be bussin! It's probably best you take it home anyway so you can make all the noises that you need to make comfortably without being judged lol You have to try them for yourself! When I tell yall I came here two days in a row because I was having withdrawals, I really mean that. I highly recommend the seafood extravaganza! I promise you will not be disappointed and If you are let me know so I can look you in your face and call you a liar. So you land in New Orleans, stand in the heat waiting for an Uber at the airport, and finally make it to your hotel room after checking in at the front desk. You sink onto the couch in your room. Your stomach growls. But it is too late for breakfast and past lunch, almost dinner time. But you want to eat, now. What do you do? You hop on Uber Eats, scroll and find "Heard Dat Kitchen", order a few items, and it ends up being one of the best meals you've had in New Orleans and maybe one of the best meals you've ever had in your life. Everything I ordered on Uber Eats here (catfish over red beans and rice with cornbread and extra side of cornbread with Crawdat sauce) was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, delivered quickly, and piping hot, so you know it was fresh. Don't even question it, add it to your list of restaurants to try out.

Heard Dat Kitchen is one of the BEST examples of an excellent "hole in the wall" kind of place that offers some of the BEST food and customer service! While visiting New Orleans, I had to look up of course what were some of the top soul food/creole places to dine at and nothing that is a tourist trap. Well my friends lol this place is FAR from a tourist trap in fact it's located in a pretty rough area of New Orleans but that's exactly what I wanted. You can never go wrong with some food in the hood! My friends and I located this place on YELP and headed on over once we stopped drooling over all the previously posted pictures. When we arrived we were a bit confused because it looks as though we were going to be eating inside of a tire shop but no it was just located next door. I was a bit apprehensive to even get out of the car but it was daylight and I was with a group so the fears were more at ease. However, I wouldn't suggest that as a tourist you'd come here like alone at night.. The inside is very small but they somehow figured a way to fit two tables with maybe about 6-7 chairs so we made it work! When it's time to place your order it is through this umm cage kind of thing that has bars which was a little off but anyways the young lady who took our order was so sweet and actually came out to be our server. The dishes that they offered were endless of tasty seafood options and even when describing the chef's special of the day I was sold! My groups order consisted of... "Crawdat Fries"- French fries w/ cheese & creamy crawdat cream sauce. (My order)"Super Dome"- Blackened Fish, Lobster Potatoes, Lobster Cream Sauce, Sweet Corn & Crispy Onion Rings. "Mardi Gras Mambo"- Fish Topped w/ Cheese & CRawdat Cream Sauce (Peas & Potato Salad) Chef's Special- Can't remember what exactly it was but it was GOOD! Check the pictures out. We all ordered a drink called "Dat Shyt" which was explained to us as a beverage that was named this by the locals in the neighborhood lmao this drink basically was like red koolaid of some sort with an addition of whatever special ingredients that they add.. not too sweet and made Just right! The visit was fantastic and we truly appreciated the great service and hospitality of the employee's working that day. With the drug deals and all that went on outside I will STILL be coming back on my next trip to New Orleans baby! read more

A lotta bang for your buck at this joint. My boy is from the 3rd Ward and he took us there. He said this is the stuff you get in the French Quarter but you're paying 3rd Ward prices. It's in a non-descript building. There's a lot going on inside. Still not exactly sure of everything they do there, but the service was great. Tia took good care of us. She recommended the "Super Dome". Blackened fish with a cream sauce and some onion rings on top. If you want a beer you can get one down the hall at the convenience store. This is EXACTLY the kind of food you want to try when you come to NOLA. Nothing fancy, a total dive, one of those "drive up and say do I really want to eat here" kind of places....well thr answer is YES. YES YOU DO. The food will make you die and go to HEARD DAT HEAVEN. The good is fantastic! Five for sure The owners daughters are personable and know what they're doing!! The menu is limited but what they cook they do so pretty damn well and take pride in it!! Inside seating is very limited.... Outside seating is on the sidewalk and people walk by your table or ride their bikes right there.... an authentic ride by! No way would I have sat outside at night and cautiously, even at night. That's how they loss half a star. In a different neighborhood it'd be a five and you'd easily be paying $15-20 more pre plate. The sauce on the meats are great, the presentation excellent and the Mac-n-Cheese some of the best I've ever had. The meal really is special .....really it is. The chicken breast was very good as well. The meal is more than affordable .... only because of the area but I had no problems. I sat outside, ate my food and enjoyed where I was. It was GREAT Sunday, 16th of Sept. 2018 I tried to go by after the football game between the Saints and the Browns. I was really excited to eat there again and to research it as one of the few New Orleans places open in a Sunday .. I was elated only to pull-up after the game to find out they were closed. Perhaps just for this Sunday but I was soooo depressed!!!!! Just to let you know there posted time may not be accura Monday, the 17th The daughters wanted to know where it was stated they were open on Sunday because they tried to correct it everywhere. So my family and I flew out from California to see what New Orleans was all about, and everything about this place is amazing. The food, the culture, and the people make this place feel like you wanna be here. Since we've been here we have dined at multiple spots all around the area. Today we decided to go with Heard Dat because they were receiving so much attention and support we had to check it out. I went in to order the lady at the front was super sweet and helpful and got everything together quick. I got the Seafood Extravaganza with a side of Mac and potato salad. When the food came out one of the people working there I wish I got her name but she brought our food out told us about what we got and even opened up the bags that were packed in and handed us everything grabbed us utensils talked to us and made us feel super welcome. lemme tell you this was some of the most flavorful and intense food I've ever had in my life. so I'm not used to southern food so I had no idea what I was getting into but since I've been here all I've had was flavor flavor and more flavor. the fried fish was super crispy and spicy and still moist. Came with these loaded fries with This super creamy sauce and also fried shrimp which hit the spot. the Mac and cheese was some of the best I had and it wasn't even anything crazy it was just flavorful asf. and that potato salad i can't believe I'm saying it but it was one of my favorite things I had. and I got this drink called dat shyt i think which was fruit punch mixed with tea and man that was the perfect pair with this food. I will never ever forget this spot and how kind the workers were and how good this food was. absolutely touched my soul god bless these people and what they're doing ! read more

Visited this place just because of a list that was going around about food spots in New Orleans that's black owned. Just a quick review; the food here was very good. I had the bourbon street Love, which was fried chicken and mac and cheese with crawfish sauce. Man I tell ya that crawfish sauce is what put this place over the top. The Fried Chicken was already good, along with the Mac and Cheese. My partner had the red beans and rice with the fried chicken which she loved as well. Just like what other people said we had the pleasure of being served by the chef's daughter. She was the best. Another thing that put this place at a 5* for me. She even told us of different places she recommended for us to check out. We definitely took her up on a few of them and they were great. read more

First, the food! Everything was amazing, and chef Jeff absolutely rocks! The fried chicken was perfect, the mac & cheese was delicious, and the skeesh sauce made everything better. The service, on the other hand, was also incredible. Tia was exactly what you'd hope for in terms of southern hospitality, and that special New Orleans love, ya heard dat? Another Great visit to Heard Dat Kitchen!! Each time I eat here Chef Jeff out does himself! That blackened steak is truly the best steak I've ever eaten, and that includes several of the best steak houses in the country (Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, etc). The service is friendly and fabulous, with a nice family feel. My husband always has one of the amazing seafood dishes (just pick one, they are ALL GREAT!!) and we are never disappointed! The same cuisine many famous folks in the New Orleans area have catered by Chef Jeff (Audrey Mea's Catering) you too can have at his personal little hot spot. It's a small place that's big on taste. Brought some out of town "foodie" friends here for lunch last week. I had never been myself, but going by word on the street I knew it would be good. It sure was. Before my friends left they told me it was their favorite meal of their Nola food tour! I got the Mardi Gras mambo (sub green beans instead of peas) and it was delicious! 10/10 would recommend! All of my favorite things.... Fried fish, melted cheese, over mac and cheese and crawfish cream sauce. [Insert drooling emoji]. The potato salad was delicious also, it was blended and I loved it. My friends got the pasta and said it was amazing. They also got the wings and said they were some of the best wings they have ever had. Chef Jeff came out to chat with us and he was an absolute sweetheart!!! Talking to him just made us love his food and restaurant even more. I will be recommending Heard Dat Kitchen to everyone I know!! Locals and visitors. The menu has something for everyone and I know they will not be disappointed! read more

The best meal I had in New Orleans! This place is a gem and the folks that run the place are so friendly. You have to try the Super Dome. My photo is attached. This entree is something I would have expected at a Michelin star restaurant. The flavors are so rich and the presentation was amazing. I will definitely be back! read more

Really wanted to try this spot. Was visiting from out of town. Walked in and asked the lady behind the counter what fish of the day was being used in a dish and if it had bones. I looked through the little peep hole and saw her popping her lips so perturbed because I asked one question. I'm so glad I saw this and that I didn't move forward with the order. If this one question pissed her off, I don't even wanna think what might've happened to my food. But I found a better option with Cafe Reconcile right up the street. Thanks for sending me as their catfish and Mac n cheese were sooo good! read more

If you are visiting, you have to stop here before you leave! If your from around here and you haven't tried it yet, you are missing out, so go get some! We are visiting from California and after already spending a couple days here, this is by far the best food we've had. So good we ordered to-go the next day! We ordered the Gumbo and grilled cheese sandwich, Madi gra mambo (fried fish over Mac and cheese, potato salad and peas) and The bourbon street love ..MY FAVORITE.. (Fried chicken over Mac and cheese, crawdat cream sauce and potato salad.) Yumm! Everything was perfectly crispy and fresh tasting. The crawdat sauce is to die for. It has whole peeled crawfish tails which I appreciate. Most other crawfish sauces around don't have full pieces in it. You can tell the kitchen loves what they do. read more

All the reviews are right, this place is a gem! Reasonable prices for top-quality food. We've been back a few times and leave happily stuffed every time. The Bourbon street love is always a hit, crisp yet tender chicken over creamy, rich mac and cheese with enough of the mustard-heavy potato salad to please any group. Servings are sizable and we usually order one less main dish than number of people in our group. The Superdome was another flavor explosion with a combination of ingredients that would rival many of the classic institutions in this town. This has quickly become one of our staples to show visitors and treat ourselves! read more

So dont let the outside nor the inside fool you! The food is to die for!! Let me start by saying its a black owned restaurant that truly valued their customers and foods. As I walked in , I wanted to sit down to eat but I arrived after 4pm which the main restaurant was closed and I had to order for take out. I could have sat at the small take out but I really wanted to just enjoy my meal.. I was unsure what to order so a lady that was there was more willing to show me her take out and the bourbon chicken spoke to me. The lady (Tia) that works there was so sweet and offered me water . I placed my order of chicken bourbon and had to wait a lil but that didn't bother me as the wait was worth it. I am not a big fan of chicken as he can be dry and flavorless but when I tell you I took that one bite!!! I felt in heaven, the tenderness, juiciness and the flavor had my palates screaming for more... the crawfish sauce that covered the chicken and mac and cheese was like made out of love, lol It reminded me of my mom cooking and she is a great cook(using all the right seasoning and putting her soul into it) .. yes I did lick my plate Haha.. This is our new favorite spot in New Orleans! We definitely passed it up while driving and walking. LOL. There are only two tables inside, but they have outdoor seating. The waitresses were friendly. We ordered the Mardi Gras Mambo and Bourbon Street and they were finger licking food. I haven't eaten peas since I was a baby and I wasn't expecting to eat the ones on my plate. But these peas were sooooo good! "You heard dat?" Also, the plating of the food was good and our plates came out clean. We will definitely return! read more

The Bourbon is one of the best things I've eaten in a long, long time. It is a perfectly fried chicken thigh over Mac and cheese covered in a delicious sauce. The potato salad is also quite good. It is a must-stop! The gumbo combo is another one of my favorites. read more

This is a super late review, I came across the photos in my phone and have to share how wonderful the food is here. I came here a few months ago while in town visiting friends and we had an amazing experience. We ate outside, our waitress was pleasant and the food is AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. The chef came out to ask how the food was & I couldn't stop thanking him. I ate here twice during my trip, the superdome is one of the best meals I've ever had & those crawfish fries are crazy addictive. I live in Philly & I literally dream about this food. OMGosh, the review is hella late but worth my time to go in and approve of their 5 star rating! We visited this place in March during our 1st time to the N.O. and thanks to Yelp, we were not disappointed. We have several friends and family that visit all the time and NOT one person told us about this place. Thanks again Yelp! I ordered the Superdome, which came with potatoes, blanked fish, onion rings, corn and some kind of seafood creamy sauce. I could have taken a bath in that sauce!! Please let me get lost in the sauce! It was so freaking fracking delicious! And it was seasoned to perfection! We searched for the best "creole" style food and that popped right up! Location: if you blink, you'll miss the building, the sweet lady (with her awesome accent) that answered the phone literally came outside to flag us down to help us find the place. Finally made it here to get a long overdue taste of Chef Jeff's cuisine. Absolutely amazing food...compliments to the chef!!! My husband and I have definitely decided to become regulars. We ordered the Superdome & the Mardi Gras Mambo. Our only complaint (which is why we didn't rate 5 stars) is that as amazing as the food is the venue is not really suitable for dining in. It's best to order to go. The restaurant is very small with No bathroom and they tend to get a lot of indigents/panhandlers. read more

Coming from the Bay Area, we wanted to try ALL the food in New Orleans. We hit world famous spots, low key spots, and spots recommended by people we came across. Trust me when I say this...some came close but not could touch Heard Dat Kitchen. We will be going back before returning to the bay area. Located behind the old Keller market. This restaurant is small and doesn't look like much at first glance, but the food is PHENOMENAL. I try to eat here as often as possible. I always get the gumbo with rice and potato salad with the house fruit punch along with the loaded crawfish fries (( I'm getting hungry writing this..beyond words sooooo good)) Service is always great!! NOLA's FINEST EATERY Heard Dat Kitchen was literally the last place my family went to before we left New Orleans. Boy oh Boy the food was sooooo good I would take a direct trip from my home in New York just to have a meal from this comfort food spot. We had looked up places to eat at in New Orleans and Heard Dat caught our attention. To our surprise when we arrive a local ABC studio show was filming a segment on the restaurant which further warranted our desire to eat here. The waitress was super friendly and helpful definitely exemplifying the term Southern hospitality. Chef Heard seemed very happy, you could see that he loves what he does and that love of his is expressed in his food and the way it's perfectly seasoned, cooked and plated. My family of four ordered the Crawdat Fries to start and they were amazing gone within 2 minutes. For our entrees we ordered the Superdome(mash potatoes to die for), Seafood Extravaganza, and 2 orders of Bourbon Street Love. All of these dishes were AMAZING!!! I could say the dish I ordered 'Bourbon Street Love' was probably, if not, THE BEST dish I've ever had! And the Fried Chicken was hands down the best Fried chicken I've ever had! It was crisp, tender, juicy and jam packed full of flavor. I'm someone who can't stand eating any type of seafood yet the lobster and Blackened fish I took off of my parents plates were Delocious and changed my opinion on seafood.Next time I'm in town I'm going to visit this place multiple times especially to try that Bread Pudding they ran out of. Okay so I heard a lot of hype about this place and how fantastic the food is. So I set out today to check it out. My mission was accomplished and all I can say is WOW! The food was perfect!!!! My tastebuds were all over the place with sheer joy and satisfaction. I had the Super Dome; blackened fish with lobster mashed potatoes and corn topped with onion rings. This place is legit...We got the seafood extravaganza, Dat Chicken Plate, and the Bourbon Street Love. All three were delicious. The sweet tea was on time and the service was really good. We were even greeted by the kitchen staff. I really like the ambiance of the dining room. Takes me back to 1970s New Orleans. I could hear the Seafood City Commercial song in the back of my mind. The dining room had a fresh coat of paint and was very clean. I'll definitely be back. I can't recommend this place enough for really good New Orleans food. read more

I was told not to order gumbo at Deanie's because it's too "salty". I decided to be spontaneous this afternoon and grab lunch to geaux. My shrimp remaulade wedge was amazing-fresh ingredients and great homemade remoulade dressing. Unfortunately, the gumbo did indeed have way too much salt in it. So much, I couldn't eat more than a couple of spoonfuls. I love gumbo- but I do NOT recommend getting it at Deanie's unless you love the taste of salt. I prefer it seasoned, but not salty. Everything was disrespectfully delicious. Every bite had us questioning our life choices in the best way. By the end of the meal, we were all sleepy and completely defeated by how good the food was. The staff was on point, courteous, and polite. Our food came out hot, fast, and perfectly plated with consistency that never misses. My only small complaint is that the sweet potato habanero sauce isn't as thick as it used to be. I'm a little annoyed about that, but it still tastes exactly the same Cochon Butcher remains one of those must visit New Orleans spots that never disappoints. Great food, great service, and a place I'll always adore.

The bread was perfectly soft, and you can really taste the difference in quality with their in-house meats. The olive salad tied the whole thing together, complementing the rich, savory flavors perfectly. That being said, the space gets extremely crowded on busy days. It's tight enough that you'll likely have people bumping into your chair or brushing past you while you eat and walk through the dining room. The biggest downside was the service at the counter. The line to the cashiers was very disorganized. Instead of calling the next person in line, one cashier was pulling people up at random, which made the ordering process frustrating. Overall, the food is fantastic, but be prepared for chaotic crowds and a messy ordering system during peak hours.

This is not your typical five star Resturant and why do I say Five Star because of the meals that are delivered in to go plates. We had several things, Dat Super Dome was delicious ( that is what my son ordered, but I had to taste it). The Blackened Fish was perfect and to pair it with Lobster potatoes was brilliant, I'm not sure what type of sauce it was sitting in but it worked well with the dish. I had stuff Shrimp and I also ordered Stew chicken. The stuff shrimp was perfect, once you took a bite you had to continue to eat and it to was in a delicious sauce and I'm thinking it was some sort of crawfish sauce. I didn't eat the Stew as I was to full but my mother said that it was delicious and for $6 it was well worth it. My daughter had the wings and my son had the BBQ. It all was very delicious. If you are not from New Orleans do not let the location deter you from trying the food. This will be some of the best food you will get without the high price tags that you find in the French Quarter area. Heard Dat Kitchen is a Diamond in the Rough. read more

I recently visited Heard Dat Kitchen and was thoroughly impressed, despite a few minor considerations. The space itself is cozy, with a somewhat small seating area, which definitely speaks to its popularity. We arrived and were told the wait would be around 30 minutes. The staff was fantastic, especially the cashier who had genuinely great energy and made the ordering process a pleasure. Once our food arrived, it was well worth the wait. The flavors were incredible--every element on the plate complemented each other perfectly, creating a truly memorable meal. My only minor critique would be about the Mardi Gras Mambo. The dish itself was fantastic, but I do wish the potato salad had been placed on the side. However, this is a small note on an otherwise great experience. Overall, the great food and energetic staff make this a spot I will definitely be back! read more

If you want authentic soul food look no farther that Heard Dat Kitchen. 3 years ago you wouldn't find anyone going to this area of town because this was one of the most dangerous areas of New Orleans but now things have drastically changed. The food is delicious. I had the Bourbon Street and it was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten, and I love fried chicken. Jeff, the chef and his family are an incredible asset to this neighborhood. Tia, one of the daughters, could be the sweetest servers I have had in any restaurant. She made us feel special and when she brought our food I couldn't believe my mouth. If you want something very authentic, delicious at the same time help out real entrepreneurs, give this place a try. You won't regret it. read more

I have reviewed Heard Dat before about a year ago, have been maybe 6 times and went back again today. Took a friend who had never been before, I like introducing people to Heard Dat. I'm no professional food critic, but this place is nothing less than amazing. When you pair great food with great people (Tia), you just can't say enough. Just couldn't get enough of the Skeesh shrimp on greens. Surf & turf were great, a blackened steak cooked to a perfect medium rare, friend had the Bourbon Street Love, and basically licked the plate clean. I called the restaurant to see if I needed a reservation and asked other questions I saw from their website. The person who answered the phone sounded annoying and start to call me 'Mam' with that kind of tone. I asked to talk to the manager, she had the same unwelcoming voice and tone with her staff. I told her I'll find another restaurant. This is very disappointed on customer service from a good restaurant according to yelp review. I came Home to New Orleans and went straight to Heard Dat Kitchen. I order the Bourbon Street Love. Awesome Awesome The Fried Chicken with the bake mac and cheese in a crawfish Cream sauce OMG delicious. I had the pleasure of trying Heard Dat Kitchen, and it did not disappoint! The red beans were full of flavor and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken was juicy and tender--just amazing. The entire meal was a comforting and satisfying experience. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was great. I'll definitely be back for more! One of my absolute favorite restaurants in New Orleans! Every time I eat here it is always so good. Definitely a hidden gem. I recommend getting the Bourbon St. or the Super Dome. Honestly anything you get is going to be delicious. The service could be better because it usually takes a while to get my food. If you are in a rush place your order via phone or online. Heard Dat Kitchen is by far the greatest restaurant I have ever been to. The food is great, customer service is amazing, & it's right there within the beautiful city limits. Don't get stuck eating in the French Quarter food, venture out and you'll find that this is the best New Orleans has to offer. Family-owned diner with quintessential NOLA eats! They made accommodations for our group of 20-30 and the owner/chef even prepared some off-menu starters for us, fried jambalaya balls among others. SOoo Yummy You gotta try the crawdat nachos and bread pudding! read more
