BBQ Shrimp Pie w/mashed purple sweet potato base

Gabrielle's is amazing. Off the touristy path and tucked away in the historic Treme district, this restaurant will not disappoint. Service was warm and punctual; offering their recommendations was a nice treat. The chicken gumbo might have the best flavored roux around for an elevated gumbo dish. The BBQ shrimp pie topped with jumbo shrimp in a delicious sauce hit the spot. Their highly recommended Traiteur fish sat atop a crispy, perfectly made crab cake; I would recommend this to everyone! Cocktails are expertly crafted and served quickly.

My first meal in New Orleans since my last visit in 2013 -- and a great way to kick-off a few days in The Big Easy. The Asian Cajun Mix Grill was a fun fusion way to start things off. That night, I was lucky enough to have the rabbit (on special) with a mustard sauce, cheese grits and red beans & rice. Don't skip desert -- or the cocktails (ask your fabulous server for a recommendation) in this casual dining room that's a wee bit off the beaten path away from the throngs of tourists (like me).

The service is great. Real New Orleans hospitality on display. Great for an intimate dining experience; fist date or established relationship. Also can accommodate small groups. I recommend reservations to ensure you have a spot. I had a business dinner meeting here and it was very good. The staff were intrusive yet attentive.

The service was immaculate. The waiter explained the entire menu to our group of 5, and was incredibly hospitable. The only problem was the food itself. While the gumbo looked amazing, it tasted bland. I've never had bland gumbo before. The duck and dirty rice was so salty it was barely edible (and I like a lot of salt!).

This was our first time having the bbq shrimp sweet potato pie and oh my, it was so good!! The oysters were really good too but the pie is the star appetizer. The fish came out a bit undercooked which they fixed pretty quickly. It was very tasty and with the biggest lump crab cake ever that had a deliciously paired sauce with it. The decor is very Nola: warm, inviting, a bit eclectic but still in a relaxed, elegant way. The service was great too!

Nice ambiance and friendly service. I enjoyed my Traiteur Fish (seared filet of gulf fish, jumbo crab cake, preserved lemon aioli). It was a big portion: I got two fish filets and a huge crab cake. The fish was excellent . Love the creole seasoning. The crab cake was crispy outside and very juicy inside - unfortunately I didn't get to finish it. It was too much food. My friend got the smoked gumbo with sausage, however she didn't like it. She said it was too smoky for her so much so that it tasted bitter after a while. She didn't finish it either.

An excellent place to feel at home and eat delicious cajun cuisine. The service was friendly and unpretentious. It felt like being in someone's home who knows how to cook really amazing food. Everything we ate was not only tasty but cooked to perfection. I loved the fact that it was in an area that, as a tourist, I wouldn't typically have had on my radar. I loved my experience and would absolutely recommend Gabrielle to anyone visiting New Orleans.

Hubby and I had a lovely date night here on a cool, Saturday evening in NOLA. The establishment is quite cozy and intimate. Felt like I was dining at someone's home, in the best way. Waitress was very polite and attentive. Our food and drinks were divine. The BBQ shrimp pie is a must try. Truly unique and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my veal roulade entree. This was my first time trying veal. It was perfectly tender and paired well with the lobster ravioli. Very rich in flavors. Hubby ordered the traiteur fish that was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Delicate and tasty. He did enjoy his meal but I will say, the jumbo lump crab cake that the fish was paired with surprisingly lacked luster and flavor, especially compared to everything else we had. Albeit, our overall experience was excellent and I would highly recommend this neighborhood establishment!

I very highly recommend to make reservations because it's small yet very busy with a lively vibe. We went for the coolanary menu. I started with the gumbo and trust me, I'd go back just for that, the dark roux was delicious. Next up was the jambalaya, it was good but I was not big on one of the sauces tha was too garlicky for my taste. The peach shortcake was good but shortcake a bit dry. Husband very much enjoyed his wagu meatballs, squash and chocolate pecan pie. I do plan to return for the gumbo.

Gabrielle Restaurant was opened up back in 1992 by Chefs Mary and Greg Sonnier who named the restaurant after their daughter. This restaurant had some rough times re-opening after Hurricane Katrina but since setting up in their current location Gabrielle has remained a popular spot in the neighborhood for great Cajun food ever since. Gabrielle is famous for their fantastic duck and seafood along with all the rest of their amazing food. If you find yourself craving some great New Orleans Cajun food then Gabrielle Restaurant can help satisfy your desires for some fantastic Cajun food. Overall this is a great spot for some Cajun food with a bit of New Orleans Creole thrown in the mix. My video review of Gabrielle Restaurant is here: https://youtu.be/dwL0BjPfoTI

Is there a dress code for Gabrielle?

I have seen folks in shorts and also folks in formal wear. So I think as long as you are wearing clothing... and yknow shoes, you'll be good.

This was my first time having noodles added to a seafood boil, and let me tell you--they were a GAME CHANGER. The noodles soaked up all that rich, buttery Cajun sauce and seasoning, making every bite ridiculously flavorful. I honestly don't know if I can order another seafood boil without noodles now! Our boil was loaded with crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn, and egg, and everything came out piping hot and covered in sauce. The seafood was flavorful, the portions were generous, and once we dumped everything onto the tray, it was officially time to get messy. What I really appreciated was how well everything worked together. The noodles weren't just an unnecessary add-on--they caught all that extra sauce that normally gets left at the bottom of the bag. Do yourself a favor and add them! Come hungry, roll up your sleeves, and don't wear anything you're afraid to get Cajun sauce on. Hot N Cajun delivered exactly what I wanted from a New Orleans seafood boil: hot, messy, saucy, flavorful, and satisfying. The noodles alone made this one memorable. Definitely coming back!

Everything we ordered was delicious, and honestly, the food is the main reason I would consider giving Bon Ton another try. I also want to give credit to the host who greeted us. She was extremely friendly, professional, and genuinely tried her best to accommodate my party. The bad: The issue was management. I had a party of 13, and I understood that the restaurant could only seat 10 people at one table. I was told the other 3 guests would be seated at a separate table, and I was completely okay with that arrangement. However, Travis, the front manager, canceled the reservation for my 3 additional guests, so they were never seated. The host was trying her best to help us, but Travis was not very accommodating and made the situation much more difficult than it needed to be. I also asked to speak with a manager because I wanted to understand what happened with the table for my 3 guests. Tre was told that I wanted to speak with him, but he didn't come over when he finished with the table behind me. Instead, he went into the kitchen, came back out, and spoke with my friend instead of me. When he eventually spoke with me, I asked if he was the manager, and he told me no. He also gave me a different name. What makes this even more disappointing is that I wasn't approaching him to complain. I simply wanted to ask about the seating situation and find a solution for my guests. The interaction with management was unnecessary and took away from what should have been a special birthday dinner. I will say again that the food was good enough that I am willing to give Bon Ton another try. Hopefully, next time the service and management experience will match the quality of the food. Shoutout to the host for being kind and trying her best--you could tell she genuinely cared about helping us.
