In case you are headed here and you own a cat, they do box down sedation for cats (if necessary). Totally old school and traumatizing technique, almost every other vet has switched to more humane methods. This was a great place when Mary, the previous office manager, was there. But after she retired the entire system went downhill. Scheduling, communication, and care of the animals is subpar. After several years of patronage, we are now looking for a new vet. Dr. Pelton maintains that the situation is due to having a small, single-doctor practice. But the fact remains that his practice functioned well when Mary was there, and it ceased to function well when she left. read more

My parents dogs have always gone to Hearthstone Animal Clinic. Now that my mom is no longer with us, I've taken over some of Daisy's care. I'm the one who picks up her medication and this time I decided to finally meet Dr. Pelton. Daisy was getting old and fat (it happens) & I really need the Doctor to explain that she doesn't need even 1/8 of the food/treats he's giving her. She's not only overweight, but she also has the squishy face breathing problem and her arthritis is noticeable. He went ahead with xrays to make sure there wasn't anything missed. Sure enough, its just what he expected and we went over a diet plan. He also said that she'd benefit from the surgery for her breathing and recommended going to Brittmore as that's what they do all day. He said it would be a few hundred vs several thousands. He also said that she would still benefit from it even though she's almost 10 years old. I appreciate the honesty. Upon checking out, I checked in through yelp and received a coupon for $20 off! It wasn't clear if it was just for new customers & Mary (the beauty at the front desk) went and asked the doctor for clarification. Great news! It was good for the current visit! Hearthstone was a great vet - I'm sure I'll have a hard time finding a vet as good as them now that we've moved, but during the time we took our 3 dogs there Mary at the front desk was always sweet and helpful, and the vet techs and Dr Pelton took great care of our kids. We originally went to Hearthstone Animal Clinic when our new puppy was showing signs of intestinal worms despite another vet 'testing' him each time he went in for his shots (I think 3 times) and telling us each time he had none. We called Hearthstone and had meds for the puppy ready for us within 30 minutes! After that we started taking all 3 here and were always happy with the service and care. read more

Our next-door neighbors, who keep 3 dogs, have used the Hearthstone Animal Clinic for a very long time. So, when we brought home our 6-week old Siberian Husky, we started going there as well. Back when Dr. Hall was the owner, which predated the current ownership of Dr. Steve Pelton. Because our dog enjoyed a long healthy life, we didn't notice much difference when he took over the practice, mainly because the front desk/clinic manager, Mary, remained in her job. However, Mary finally retired recently, and changes in the practice have been more pronounced, and less acceptable. Not just to me, but my neighbors as well, have not been happy with the clinic's new business personality, and told me so without my having to ask. New staff members are merely doing their jobs, and not placing pet's need ahead of their own conveniences. Now, to be much more specific about complaints: We have 2 I will write about, and I will also try to get my friends to detail their dissatisfaction as well. When a previously prescribed medication needed to be refilled, they had not bought any, and did not try to get any replacements from other sources or nearby vet clinics. I was forced to give my dying Husky their closest recommended replacement medicine. Dr. Pelton either was never told, or was indifferent to this change in his prescribed medication. Either way, the reflection on his lack of professional judgement is not a favorable one. And to continue my own review of the Hearthstone Animal Clinic, I phoned to discuss euthanizing our Husky on Friday 7 May, at 9:32am with Dr. Pelton. He "was not available" then, and apparently never did become available for the rest of the day. When I phoned back, just prior to 5pm that same day, I was told that "the doctor had already left for the day". When I asked for his after-hours number, I was refused. Asking for a call back was just as pointless, because he did not call me back the next day, or the following week, or the week after that. Meanwhile, our dog's health continued a steepening decline. For eleven days, without hearing from his "doctor" of nearly 14 years. Repeated calls have gone unanswered. Dr. Steve Pelton apparently has all the business he cares to have, and the future for new business must be rosy as well. Longtime customers are not valued or appreciated the way they were when Mary was the voice and face of Hearthstone Animal Clinic. Oh yes, about our Husky? Another, more caring veterinarian was found to end his suffering. Today. I don't advise anybody entrusting their pet's care to this practice. And if you already are doing business there, for the sake of your own pets, find a replacement. Soon. read more

I had a different vet but since it was quite a drive away and this was literally next door to my house I thought I would give them a try. Boy am I glad that I did. The receptionist is wonderful and that's something to be said for a vet clinic. Both times that I have been in a tight bind with my dog they were able to help them. And when I needed to make an appointment for a check up they always had same week availability vs having to wait weeks in advance with my previous vet. I'm super late in writing this but nonetheless here it goes! We moved to the area and we were in need a of local vet for our dog, Sam. We tried Hearthstone and Dr.Pelton and loved them! It was a nice touch having a little welcome sign out front for all the animals that had appointments that day, it made us feel welcome. Everyone is so nice and very organized. We were in and out fast, and Dr. Pelton was great. He was easy to talk to and you could tell he loves his job. He reassured us Sam was healthy and good to go, after a routine checkup. His receptionist Mary is awesome too! At our old vet's office I was always having to call multiple times to get records or his meds taken care of but at Hearthstone they are on top of it, which I really like. We have had our dog's teeth cleaned here (very reasonable) and our other dog went here when she got very sick from eating something that disagreed with her. They are very kind, love animals, and the office is very comfortable and welcoming. I haven't met the vet yet, but his credentials look fantastic. Everone at hearthstone is awesome. Since Dr. Pelton took over at Hearthstone they have all became a part of our family. They have treated every pet we've had since then..Dr. Pelton is the only vet I've used going all the way back to 1993 when he first started practicing & we had our first dog. We have now moved to the Tomball area & have many vet's to choose from but that doesn't matter. Dr.Pelton & Hearthstone are my choice & that's where I'll continue to go. read more

I love Dr. P and his staff. Dr. P truly cares for animals and it is clear when he examines my dog from head to paw. I never feel rushed and I trust his diagnosis - Dr. P really knows his stuff. His entire staff is wonderful but I'm partial to Mary. Mary always makes me feel that my animal is top priority and she's extremely knowledgeable about animal care. I'm gushing but they're really that good -- quick story: My dog had an ear infection but the medicated ear drops weren't an option. I had just moved to Dallas, so I called around to several (at least four) vets in the area looking for another treatment but fell short. I called Hearthstone; reminded Mary that we had moved to Dallas, and without delay, Dr. P (via Mary) had a treatment option for my dog. I recalled two of the same vets who referred me to a vet that had that medication. It worked and I didn't have the headache of reapply the drops daily. I took my Daisy Petals (15yrs) to see Dr. Pelton. His receptionist Mary is absolutely adorable and very friendly. His staff is very kind and considerate and showed Daisy compassion. I called on Saturday wanting to take my puppy in for teeth extraction and didn't bother to call any other places because she was so helpful. I believe her name is Rebecca but I could be wrong. I ended up taking my puppy on Monday and the staff was very friendly and cared for him. They did such a good job with him and made sure to call me with an update. We have been going to Hearthstone Animal Clinic for over 15 years. Dr. Pelton is a wonderful vet. Very knowledgeable, kind and caring, as is his staff. Mary, at the front desk, is wonderful. Over the years Dr. Pelton and his staff cared for our five Miniature Schnauzers and helped us through the good times and the bad. The past few months we lost our last two from old age but recently adopted two rescue Schnauzers. They have already been in to get their teeth cleaned. This is a very busy vet and sometimes you have to wait at the front desk or on the phone, but that's true of almost any good vet. Dr. Pelton is the only vet here and because he's so good, he is obviously busy. As long as we have dogs and live in this area, we will continue to use HAC. read more
