The staff was friendly and they even threw in a coffee & chicory panna cotta for us to taste, which was delicious. I would definitely come back for the oysters and to try either the gumbo or the crawfish etouffee. Original Hurricane was perfection, had to have another. Not a boozy taste but it does catch up with you. I was a little disappointed with the catfish because I was expecting that Nawlins flavor and it was just fried catfish, meh. The cup of gumbo and the spoonful of rice (not complaining about that, it was enough) is where all of the flavor is! The chicken, the andouille and the roux, brought back so many good memories of good food while in the French Quarter. They did that, I should have gotten a larger portion! Our waiter John was very nice and checked in on us regularly, didn't have to lock for him or try to get his attention. Again the place is small but he was very attentive. I would go back just to try other things and hopefully I will get more of that flavor.

I stepped away to go to the washroom after paying the bill, which was incorrect. I even questioned it and was reassured that it was correct. To only have my child questioned about something they would know nothing about. Teach your staff about approaching children about adult matters. The setting was ok. It's just that the food wasn't fresh, tasteless, and made our stomach hurt and had to go to urgent care. We will not be rerunning that business again and I highly recommend that you don't either.

This is one of my go-to brunch spots besides Forest Point. We hit the Bloody Mary's pretty hard, and Heavy Woods knows how to mix em. Which alone is enough for 4 stars :) But it's the great atmosphere that keeps me coming back. It's finally warm enough for the outside tables, which means sunshine, vaping and PUPPIES! It's all about the lifestyle at Heavy Woods. If you're anything like my friends and I, you might even want to pop over to the flea market to get some hip sunnies while you wait. Oh, the food! Well I lurves it. As a chica who *prefers* to eat light, this is where my self-imposed limitations go to die. And I am okay with it. Because I am usually hung over and don't give a shit. BUT if you do like light bites, there are some snacky items that sound yums. My friend never had a deviled egg before. So when they came out with their cute little scallions and spices and what not, we felt pretty fancy as F*** (which is what they're going for, pretty sure). This time I got the Red Eye Bandit. I love biscuits and gravy... + eggs + pork confit = done deal. Yes, the dish is very heavy and rich. Might even be worth splitting. The gravy is heavenly and was worth every mouth shovel. 2 people at our table got the chicken-fried pork steak. Which it was clarified to me that there is no chicken involved. This is steak people. Pork steak. Delicious, juicy pork steak. The runny egg yolk seemed like a strange pairing but the unlikely alliance was a delight. The only thing that is mehh about this place is the service. I've been about 5-6 times and not once have I been fully pleased. We were asked to seat ourselves at the open table. Which it is MAD DASH so wear your sneakers if you want a prime spot on Saturday breakfast time (3 PM). After 15 minutes of waiting and 60 mental repetitions of, "i need cold brew. i need cold brew." I went in and got coffee at the station. Ya girl don't wait for no brew. Then once we finished up our food (still working on mary), 2 different waiters came to clean up our table by strategically picking up one plate and cup at a time. And asking if we wanted anything else. Every time. We realized we were holding up the waitlist and it was time to scoot.. Subtle guys. Subtle. We were in the area and looking for a place to have a quick dinner on Friday night so we stopped here as the menu looked good. We walked in and helped ourselves to seats at the bar. The place has in interesting look. The seating was an eclectic collection. As for food, we ordered off of the daily special menu. I had the watermelon feta salad and ordered a biscuit on the side. He had BBQ Cajun shrimp dish. As for the salad, it was simply the most amazing, tastiest salad I have ever had! What ever slightly spicy delicious dressing they used for this dish, it made me want to lick the plate. The biscuit was slightly over baked but it was still quite good. As for his shrimp BBQ, the taste was spectacular. The only thing we didn't like is that the shrimp came completely in it's shell...legs and all. The dish was really saucy and it was hard to get the meat out of the shell as we were afraid the red sauce would splatter on our clothing. We didn't really feel like working for our food and using our hands to separate the shell. We left quite a few shrimps for this reason. For the service, we sat at the bar so not much to comment on. Someone was available when we needed something. The bathroom grossed me out. It was covered wall to wall in graffiti and grime and no mirror. I came in here with a friend on Sun. night they were doing an event in the back room...game of thrones I think so we stayed in the front room which is really nice with all the back lit green shelves. I went here a few weeks ago for a Saturday brunch. Place was packed inside and outside. We got seated on the patio. At first the table seemed a little wobbly but it was ok. Drinks were strong! Staff was realy nice. Food was great. Funny story about the wobbly table- About half way through our meal some weird guy a few seats away fell off his chair and then grabbed a big wooden box full of decorations and plants and pulled it down with him. I ordered a drink, she asked for my ID and checked it, and then I stood at the bar (it was quiet) for 15 minutes waiting for the glass of wine I'd ordered. Food and service are good but high drink price will definitely keep a lot of people away. One of these day we will try their happy hour to confirm if indeed the prices make us happy.

I ended up liking my veggie burger so much, I came back a week later for another one. Strange Flavor's menu is succinct and they're blowing it out of the water. I've had both the Chop Burger and the Pop's Burger, both vegetarian, and they were stellar. The Chop Burger has such a unique flavor profile with peanuts, cilantro-scallion, mustard, mala glaze. A little heat, a little sweet and a delicious topping for the 2 patties. The Chop Burger, (pictured), I got after a night of drinking so my review is essentially - YUM ITS A CLASSIC AND I WANT TWO MORE. Strange Flavor cranks out the burgers quickly and its great you can take to go to eat at the bar - which is a cool as heck bar inside. I've been to the bar itself a few times sans burgers, and it does get a little busy on the weekends, but it is such a beautiful and big space. The service is honestly great for the volume of people that are in at any given night and I will always want to come back.
