I just found this local place. I also visit the one on I10 when I come back from NOLA snd did not realize I had one close to home. I cooked the greasy turkey with dirty rice stuffing for thanksgiving dinner. First off besides tasting great snd moist the Turkey literally fell apart when I took it out of the roaster. Tender, moist and tons fir dirty rice. I am sure folks might complain about the cost bug gif me getting a fresh deboned turkey already seasoned and stuffed, it was well worth the price. My daughter claimed bids on the leftover stuffing which amazes me as she never eats stuffing. Dressing cooked in the casserole yes, but not something from inside the turkey. I will more than likely order my next turkey from them and maybe try a different stuffing mix, but dirty rice will be hard to beat. Next time I am in the mode gif a crawdaddy pie I no longer have to schedule a trip to NOLA. read more

Ambiance - small store, has a country feel, and family oriented. Dress code is casual. 4. Food - I don't know any other places that sells "swamp dust" crawfish seasoning. I usually have to get that in Louisiana. Glad they have this store in Houston. In the past I have bought meat-pies, chicken, and turkey. Everything is preseason, so all you have to do is follow the instructions on the packaging to cook. Pretty simple. If you are missing a little piece of South Louisiana home this place is for you. Their menu is vast and they have a little bit of everything. I have been pleased with their service, the quality of the food and the pricing. I would saw what my favorite thing to get is but I don't want them to be sold out. :-) I got meals here for Thanksgiving, Christmas and then just for dinner when I did not feel like cooking. Haven't been in Herbert's for years. Decided I would stop and look. I bought a boneless whole chicken stuffed with crawfish and hot jalapeño cornbread. Directions say cook, breast side down for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350 degrees. I did just that and it was perfect. Wanted to try a meat pie so I picked one up at $4.00. Two packs of 5 small Bourdain balls were $4.00 each, a pack of LA Crawfish tails were $16.00 and frozen. I paid $11.00 in Kemah for fresh. The whole chicken was $14.00, but we have another meal or two left. Had to freeze leftovers at that price. It was good, but could tell crawfish used were from China or Vietnam. They had a fishy taste. It was nice going back, but for just those items, I paid $40.00. Only for special occasions at this time in my life. read more

Love this place. The selection is so and I don't think I've ever had anything from there we didn't like. The crawfish or shrimp pies are wonderful. We've also tried many of the stuffed chickens and they are delicious. On Thanksgiving we also get the Turducken, a little pricey but yummy. Staff has always been helpful and friendly. read more

My first experience a while back at Herbert's was not good. I encountered an older man working there with a crappy attitude. When I asked why some of their stuffed chickens were fresh and some were frozen he answered me in a very rude tone. He said that they get their stuffed chickens in fresh but if they don't sell them within 3 or 4 days they freeze them. Btw I did not find all the refrigerated stuffed chickens to be perfectly vacuum locked sealed either. When I addressed the issue of bacteria growth from the blood inside the chicken with the stuffing the older man got very rude with me. Then I was told "lady they are still fresh and if you don't like it you don't have to buy it". Well first off I'm not very fond of buying a raw stuffed chicken where bacteria can grow inside with the stuffing in it for 3-4 days just sitting in a refrigerator. Nor do I like a rude clerk with an attitude. I prefer if I buy a stuffed chicken that is fresh that day or flash frozen immediately to prevent bacteria from growing. I have a tough stomach but hubby and one of my friends doesn't. Why not have better quality control and safer standards for your consumers? So basically I was told the stuffed chickens that don't sell in 3-4 days end up in the freezer. Doesn't sound to fresh does it??? I went in a couple weeks ago to see if they still have the same standards in refrigerating and freezing their products. Well I was told the same story as before. After I questioned the issue of bacteria growth again this time then I was told by a younger middle aged man that some of their stuffed chickens do come in frozen. Why the different story a minute later? Was it the truth, lie or did he just forgot what he told me a minute ago? Anyway I purchased some frozen products which only come in frozen and a stuffed frozen chicken. Hopefully the people with the sensitive stomaches don't get sick from bacteria growth. I've known other people who have not had a problem but some can eat anything without an issue. I hope hubby and my friend doesn't end up on the porcelain throne. The other frozen products I only ate and were good. Sometimes if I'm in the Portifino shopping center I do run in for miscellaneous seasoning products. Selection is minimal though. More of a convenience thing for me. read more

If you like cajun foods, this is your place. They have a great selection of boneless, stuffed chickens with stuffings like: crawfish or shrimp dressing. They also have many other meats and pre-prepared dishes. Much of the food is frozen but they also have a selection of fresh, refridgerated meats as well. They have gumbos and other creole dishes all ready to go...just thaw and eat. I have had the crawfish augraten, gumbo, corn soup, chicken stuffed with crawfish dressing and several other dishes and have not been disappointed yet. read more

Bought my turkey this year from them. Wow! It was the best I have EVER had. My family raved about it. We got the 10 lb deboned cajun stuffed with cornbread. No fuss. Defrosted in the frig for 3 days. Straight to the oven. No basting. Cooked in 3 1/2 hours. Cut like butter and the taste was absolutely divine! If you want the best turkey you have ever had, get one of these! read more

Food Poisoning!!! Bought 2 frozen chickens. One was stuffed with baked potato and other with broccoli. That was the only thing we ate. 3 out of 4 people that ate it had diarrhea and vomiting. read more
