Our waitress Theresa was amazing, he kindness, knowledge of the menu and even upselling upcoming specials was so sweet and non invasive. The food was also amazing. We had the fried pork steak and chicken fried steak with Mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes, loaded potatoes, and fried okra... all for 29.99 including the drinks. It gets no better than this. We love this place, it's just not close enough for us to enjoy as much as we should. This is a classic family / old folks restaurant, which we are officially designated as. Daily specials of classic comfort foods, fried catfish, pork chops, barbecue, burgers, rolls (with margarine, I didn't know even know that was still a thing, isn't it bad for us ?) Banana pudding, peach cobbler, which is one of the best cobblers I've ever had. Red and white checkered vinyl tablecloths and booths that have seen a lot of action, this place is unchanged for who knows how long. Okay, as an Italian that loves to cook, I will say this place is catering to its older generation and overly cautious about its use of seasoning., and their paper cost. (We've asked for napkins 3 times now) I don't think they even salt the water for the potatoes or macaroni because both of these sides are blah. The black eyes peas were creamy and good ( and yes, I had to add salt to these too, but thats a given) once I got the salt right, I loved them. The portions were big enough of the fried catfish and the sliced beef that we could have shared one of those entrees, but we both wanted something different. I LOVE Neal's!! This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Spring. Every time someone in my family visits, we head to Neal's for lunch! This restaurant is such a cozy & comforting environment. They have very friendly staff and you'll always see the same servers, which is encouraging about how they treat their employees that there isn't turn over. I originally came across this restaurant because it's a favorite for my husband's grandparents. They visit almost weekly, if not more for the senior & lunch specials. The lunch special changes daily I believe and it's always such a good deal! You get an entree, two sides & a dessert from their select menu for around $10! There's not many places you can find a meal this filling for such a low cost anymore. Plus you get free rolls with honey butter that are so good! My recommendation is the sliced bbq plate with a baked potato & fried okra! But I've never had a meal here that wasn't good! read more

I had a lovely lunch today at this location. They have a fantastic lunch special for $10.99 which includes an entree from the lunch board along with two sides, and a dessert. The food is always hot and consistent and taste. However, in recent months they have begun to charge a 3% credit card fee to offset costs of customers using credit cards. Some restaurants have started doing this and others have not. They treated as the cost of doing business rather than passing it on to their customers. They do have a sign posted on the front of the cash register when you walk in. In addition to notifying a potential customer that there will be a 3% credit card fee there is a secondary portion of their message which I posted below. "Above what we deem acceptable" Google's Explanation: This is the restaurant's way of saying that the fee will be applied to all credit card payments, though it is unusually worded. The surcharge is likely being applied to the entire bill when paying with a credit card, not just the amount over some arbitrary number. I asked the host what exactly did this mean and she could not explain it to me. I told her I would like an answer before I leave as to what exactly that means. She sent a gentleman over to me and he seemed very perturbed that I was even asking. We went up to the sign and I showed him exactly what I was questioning and he still struggled to explain it to me. He then walked off mumbling to himself. The explanation above was found through me Googling that portion of the message. I think it's only fair if you're going to incur an extra charge onto a customer that you should be able to explain it in an understandable fashion. read more

The food was fantastic! I got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich with cole slaw. I love cole slaw, but wasn't a fan of this cole slaw. My dad enjoyed the guacamole burger with fries. My sister loved her chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra. We tried dessert since it's made there. My sister raved about the banana pudding. My dad and I split the butter pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream. It was the lightest pecan pie I've ever had; so good! The server seemed distracted. I can't wait to eat here again. My wife and I just ate here a few days back (it was her first time) and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I would highly recommend giving it a try. Just not very good. Not much more to say about the food. The service was OK and average. I got the chicken fried chicken and it did not seam like it was fresh home made. It looked like and tasted like precooked frozen chicken that was then flash fried. The broccoli was like mushy and everything was tasteless. Really decent meal for a great price. We all ordered from their menu of specials for the day. I ordered cajun tilapia with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I was very happy with my meal. It came with dessert, so peach cobbler was the winner. It was a little dry but it had a great taste nonetheless. The place was pretty empty and service was excellent. It's not the healthiest place, but I wouldn't be opposed to eating here again if someone else was interested. We were looking for a place to eat in an unfamiliar area. The parking lot of Neal's was full; we took that as a good sign It was good down home food! Chicken fried steak with yummy gravy and veggie sides. I got a burger - an oh my goodness. The meat was amazing. When I mentioned it to the waitress she told me that the chef grinds his own meat. It was fresh and tender. We ordered chicken tenders for my grandson - they were REAL chicken breasts. It came with gravy and Mac and Cheese. So good. The waitstaff has been there for a long time. They knew the business and food. Not a lot of turn over. This was a very nice restaurant. I would go again when we are back in that area. read more

The Mushroom Butger was tasteless, greasy, and had more chopped lettuce than anything else, I assume it was to hide the thin frozen patty they use to create this monstrosity ! Very high quality, made-from-scratch comfort food- even the house yeast rolls! We loved the chicken fried chicken with gravy, the pinto beans, and desserts especially. Prices are extremely low for the size of the portions- each of our meals is easily two meals - we had plenty of leftovers. We took the desserts to go- also house made- and delicious! I'm in Spring house and dog sitting for my brothers family as they just moved into their house AND had to fly out of state, crazy timing. So I drove down from Fort Worth and "planned" on dieting the whole time, until tonight lol. I did good so far, but I needed some home cooking and I'm so glad I opted for Neal's! I got the Chopped Steak, Masked Potatoes, green beans, and Blackberry pie. This was the comfort food I needed after being away from my family for 4 days. The meal was so southern, those green beans really made me miss my mama, onions, and a little sweet and as Trisha Yearwood calls them "cooked to death" I ate every bite of them, the hamburger steak and onions was exactly what I was setting my taste buds up for, very filling, I have enough for lunch tomorrow, the grilled flavor really hit the spot, and there is still half of mashed potatoes with brown gravy, so I really did get 2 meals. Oh BTW, I ordered my food and it was delivered in less that 1/2 an hour so I don't know anything about ambiance, decor, etc, just that the food helped me feel better about being 275 miles from home. The pie, don't forget to treat yourself to the pie, very good, even though I was guilted horribly by 2 French Bull Dogs and 1 Boston Terrier, three sets of big brown eyes staring at me was ALMOST more than I could bear...almost :) read more

Never been so rushed through a meal by a server (Darcy). Might as well have gone to a cafeteria, so at least the price would match the nonexistent service. Mind you, we arrived an hour and half till close to an almost empty restaurant. We're asked what we want to drink before even seated, and immediately asked if we're ready to order (no). She comes back with drinks and asks if we're ready again, so we order an app. The app comes out, and she again asks if we'd like to order. As soon as the words 'Wednesday special' leave my mouth, attempting to order the (pot roast), she cuts me off to say she has bad news, they're out of that. Guess we need more time, so she leaves to continue the closing work (I assume) she was constantly disappearing to do. She comes back quickly to let me know, she might have enough for just one order of pot roast, but not two (which we'd never asked for). I order pot roast, green beans, mixed grilled zucchini, and choose the soup of the day instead of salad, plus blackberry pie for dessert (both at a small up charge). My boyfriend got a burger, fries and salad. Our soup and salad come out pretty fast, as we're about half way through the app. About two bites into those, out comes entrees; plus an apology, and excuse/lie about having a new cook that hasn't gotten timing down. Anyone who's worked SERVICE industry understands it's the literal job of the SERVER is to manage the timing of their customer's dinner SERVICE. Whatever, it's not terrible, we're hungry, so no complaints thus far. As I'm finishing my soup, out comes dessert, warm pie w whipped cream, now left to melt and get soggy before I can attempt to enjoy it. This further solidifies the obvious lie about the cook's bad timing. She chose to bring pie, literal minutes after apologizing for bringing everything at once, and as we hadn't finished our soup and salad. At this point, I'm beginning to notice the taste of aluminum in the green beans, and pie filling, which is clearly from a can. The pot roast was shredded beef with brown gravy and zero other ingredients; no carrots, onions, or any other veggies you might expect in a pot roast. Everything was just okay, but the the price ($50+!!) and service, or lack thereof, was the nail in the coffin. After bringing everything, she never came back to ask how anything was or refill a drink. Eventually, she came back to ask if we need boxes, and slyly dropped the check simultaneously. We were seated at 7:30, and were back in the car by 8:05, feeling disappointed and ripped off. Likely never going back, and bow understand why the other location closed and this one wasn't busy for dinner. read more

Sorry to say that nothing was quite as good as I hoped/expected it to be -- whether the rolls, the tres amigos, chicken fried chicken, white gravy, mashed potatoes, you name it. They all had some room for improvement and I'm not sure why you would pick these versions over a different restaurant. Is the queso in the tres amigos just Velveeta? Is there any pepper in the white gravy? Where is mac and cheese for a side dish? There was hardly anyone inside when we visited, which could've been a sign; we did arrive early for dinner so I thought it might fill up over time, but that didn't really happen. We made our first visit yesterday. Lunch special CFS, two sides and a desert for $9.99. I thought they were kidding. The CFS was one of the best we've had in a long time. It is actual round steak and it was not beaten into a package to look bigger on your plate. Tasted great. Fried okra was hot and perfect, green beens nice and soft, potatoes perfect. Banana pudding was average but good. The service was very friendly, always a smile, efficient, and our to-go order came out right after we finished our meal. Their prices are great. You can't get a Wendys combo for less than $10 any more. Finally, they have a huge parking lot in back. We will definitely go back and try their BBQ. read more

Down home cooking in a down home setting, food comes out fresh and hot, service is as sweet as the pie they serve, NO ONE was on their cell phones (likely because the crowd was too elderly to know how to properly use one haha), tables were mostly single diners like myself taking advantage of the amazing plate lunch deal... just under ten bucks including tax and dessert! Seniors pay only $6.49!! Portions were super generous and the banana pudding the freshest I have ever tasted. I was greeted right away and asked if I preferred a table or booth. Bathrooms were sparkling clean and well stocked. The chicken fried steak was fork tender and well seasoned but my favorite thing was the turnip greens which were cooked with a delicious mix of bacon and onions. Gotta love the South for sticking pig fat in just about everything. Gravy was creamy and plentiful. I love that the hot yeast rolls came with a honey spread! My only real disappointment was that the coffee came with non dairy creamer instead of half and half. I took a slice of blackberry pie to go and took a peek into the box and was floored by the gigantic berries in it. It was mostly fruit and not canned pie filling. If you are craving CFS and are looking for a lot of food at a good price this place is worth the drive! read more

I finally came to this country cooking spot after originally wanting to come nearly 10 yrs ago. I ordered the fried cheese sticks, large chicken fried steak with a loaded baked potato, and added a cup of soup of the day (chicken and dumplings). Rolls and cornbread are brought to the table when you first sit down. Nothing really special with either the roll or cornbread. They give you 2 different types of margarine (spread), so it's not real butter which I didn't like. The cheese sticks tasted like many other places. I asked for ranch as my dip and found this dish to be average. The breading is very thick and they're probably not homemade. The cup (of soup) is more like a small bowl in size. It could easily be shared by two people. As far as the dumplings, they were a little on the runny side for my taste. I still ate them all, but I've had better. The chicken fried steak was the star of the show and my favorite item by far. The small comes with one steak, while the large comes with two. I ate one there and took the 2nd home for lunch the next day. Delicious and easily one of the better CFS in the Houston area. I didn't really care for the potato. How do you mess up a perfectly good baked potato? Just put a bunch of margarine on it of course. My palette is used to butter, so it just tasted off to me. The service was attentive and friendly. One of the owners (cook) actually delivered the entree to the table, so it's a very family-oriented restaurant. I will be back to try their fresh ground burgers or another delicious CFS. read more

Nice country atmosphere and good attentive service. The food was pretty good, but I would of liked to see homemade dressings, homemade croutons and maybe a homemade bread selection. I ordered the fajita chicken salad which i took a risk on since this is more of a country cooking type of place, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. No dressing needed! My dinner date had fried catfish and it was perfectly fried and not overly greasy. I will definitely go back. Plus the prices are awesome! read more
