This was our first time dining here. It was mid-afternoon Thursday. The restaurant is rather new & well-appointed. I was attracted by their menu offering of chicken enchiladas en mole, a sauce that's rare to find in area Mexican restaurants. The place wasn't busy so we were greeted & seated promptly. Chips, house salsa & refried bean dip was delivered to our table & our waitress appeared thereafter to take our drink orders. Several minutes later we placed food order & asked for another serving of spicy salsa, bean dip & ice tea refills. Our waitress returned shortly thereafter followed by our entrees. My chicken enchiladas en mole were delicious. However, my husband's chicken & beef enchiladas were not as he expected. Both meats were fajita cuts as opposed to taco-style beef & shredded chicken. It was then we experienced a service slowdown in getting drink refills & dessert. This resulted in a 4 but not 5 star experience. read more

After reading the mixed reviews on Yelp and Google Reviews, decided to try this place out. Service was very poor. No refills, did not clean up any dishes when finished eating, forgot to bring me a box after I'd asked and didn't apologize when I requested it again, and didn't offer to relocate when I was harassed by the bees and flies outside. The food was warm/room temperature when it reached my table. Tacos al carbon overpriced at $13 that came with bland rice and decent black beans. The beef was majority fat and nothing special. Hecho en Waco, you have potential to be a great restaurant... Your staff needs to be aware of the basics of being a waiter, from what I've experienced I will not be returning until there are big changes in the service and food quality/pricing. read more

Lunch/dinner menu is ok, somewhat overpriced. Breakfast is actually very good, with reasonable prices. Ordered the Revuelto and was very happy with it. The potatoes were not soggy like most breakfast potatoes served in Waco. read more

Best kept secreit in Waco! We went to Waco for a girls weekend and we were so lucky to stumble on this place. Authentic food, fun drinks and amazing service from a young man named AMADEUS! He made our meal special and I could not get over how reasonably priced it was. I will definitely be back anytime I am traveling on 35 south. Loved it! read more

Food was excellent but the service was terrible. Took forever for the food to come and our waitress barely checked on us. There were two large parties next to us and they were incredibly loud. I've lived in Texas all my life and know what good Tex-Mex should taste like; this isn't it. The food was very disappointing and a waste of money. I had beef fajitas, and the 5 strips of meat I received were bland, the tortillas were tough, and the rice was plain white. The genuine mexican cuisine was phenomenal. For starters, the carnitas tacos were a religious experience. The meat was so tender and immediately melted in your mouth. The pickled onions were satisfying addition. The lemonade was very refreshing and sweet. And on top of all that the service from Reina was attentive and friendly. This was by far the worst restaurant I ever been too!! One waiter was walking around with an piece of tissue up his nose they had a burrito that was full of raw onions and peppers also after I sent my food back the waitress I had was super duper nice so I gave her a $5 tip then I gave her a 20 to pay for my cheese dip and she only brought me back a 10 dollar bill I wouldn't recommend going there read more

Pretty decent place. Came here for my birthday brunch a couple days ago after deciding to give it a try. Had the Huevos Rancheros: Scrambled eggs done with onion and tomato, refried black beans, potatoes, and corn tortillas. The potatoes were actually the tastiest part of the entrée to me, but everything else was not bad. Complementary chips and salsa too which was a bonus. Because my friend told them it was my birthday, a bunch of servers sang to me and put a sombrero on my head, it was pretty funny. They even gave me a Tres leches cake free of charge which was delicious. Although I didn't have lunch or dinner there, the menu looked good. I would be interested in coming here again. read more

Our party arrived around 12:30 Sunday 6/24. Four adults & a 9-year-old​. The main reason I am giving 2 stars (instead of 1) is that​ the child absolutely​ loved the bean dip (mashed refried beans with corn in it - which is not a pretty sight.) We ordered simply - no special requests. The enchilada plate and the chipotle plate arrived first and both were cold (and no sauce on the chicken). The waitress​ announced it would be a few minutes on the other food. Over ten minutes later (I timed it) the D.J. enchilada plate arrived (also cold), the fajitas (hot) and the tenders (don't know the temperature the child didn't complain). Sent back the first two plates. Finally,​ about another 10 minutes or so the first two plates returned. Terrible service, kitchen management or both. Even a beginning​ waitress knows to bring all the food at once (or at least in quick succession) and that it is HOT! BTW the restaurant wasn't crowded. One plus, ​however, she kept us well stocked on chips and bean dip. Now for the food: The white rice was Minute Rice. Everyone at the table confirmed. Actually,​ Minute Rice is fine, but not at a restaurant that claims to specialize in "fine Mexican cuisine from the interior of Mexico". The chicken under the chipotle sauce (the sauce did appear on the new plate) was a preformed cutlet (it was in the exact same shape as the first chicken) and was tough. My D.J. Enchiladas arrived looking very pretty and garnished with crumbly cheese and lettuce. It tasted okay (as well as cold enchiladas can taste), but the enchiladas had only a very small amount of chicken in them. The sauce on my son's Enchilada plate was supposed​ to have "Mexican Gravy" with cheese, which is a red chile sauce. Instead,​ the sauce was white and bereft​ of cheese. My DIL didn't complain about her beef and shrimp fajitas (but then she is especially forgiving of things) but she didn't eat any of the beef. Even if the food had arrived hot and all at the same time it didn't meet the restaurant's claim on its website of "An upscale restaurant specializing in fine Mexican cuisine from interior Mexico." However, it wasn't too expensive (enchilada plate was $9, chipotle and DJ each $10 & fajitas $!5 - the latter actually being a bit overpriced for what was served but was the only fresh looking entree). Also BEWARE of the slopping floor running through the middle of the restaurant. There is a scuffed up sticker on the floor telling you to watch your step, but it is not very noticeable​ & it would be easy to fall. There are far, far better restaurants in Waco for Mexican food (like El Conquistador and La Fiesta). Hecho En Waco does have a nice looking horseshoe-shaped​ bar with low lights and TV's. read more

There was so much hype about this place. Not impressed. Servers were bored, not interested in working. We were seated and across from us was a group of employees, on break I suppose. After a long wait and having to hear their private conversations, a young man asked from the booth if we had been helped. We said no and he walked over and took our drink orders and then we waited again for a young woman to come over and take our food order. Zero enthusiasm, zero interaction with us other than the order. The food? Blah. Nothing to be impressed with. I had chicken tortilla soup which was not even warmed much. The entire time we were eating we had a employee sweeping our area over and over... the floors were nasty. The bathroom was nasty, Lacked attention From the employees. Maybe it was just a bad night... maybe the hype has died down. Worst service. The waiters seemed bothered and made us feel uncomfortable. Really wanted to love this place! read more

My mom and I ate here for lunch I had such high hopes, but I was disappointed. The service was fantastic and the space itself was lovely, but the food was overpriced and a little bland. My mom ordered the quesadillas and I ordered enchiladas. I plan on trying something else next time to see if it was just what I ordered. read more

We loved this place. Almost didn't visit because of other reviews. The bean dip is delicious & white cheese dip is perfection. Ice tea was good, which is important as we only drink water & tea. We often go to particular restaurants based on their tea & Mexican restaurants based on their white cheese dip. Didn't give 5 stars because the wait staff seemed a tad oblivious we were there at times. However, not a deal breaker, we aren't above flagging people down & asking for our waitress/waiter. Loved this place and went at least once a week for the past couple of months. Stopped going when they changed their rice, they used to have the best rice and now it's sticky with peas and carrots. Tastes like straight salt and broth and not like any Mexican rice. Made me not want to eat here anymore. Went to Hecho en Waco on a Thursday evening and there wasn't a wait. Staff was attentive and nice. Our food came quickly and it was hot. I enjoyed the Chile con queso. I got enchiladas with fajita chicken and they were pretty good, not great. I'll definitely try this place out again read more

Hecho has become a local favorite among my friend group. We love the vegetarian options, the staff has always been friendly, the service is quick, and the food is fantastic and affordable. I was extremely disappointed in this place. I order my first meal which was some form of chicken enchiladas I had to send them back they tasted like straight chemicals. And then I order normal chicken enchiladas and I had mushy uncooked pulled chicken. Some pieces were completely raw. I would never return here nor recommend it to anyone. read more
