Best sub shop around. My wife and I love the ham sub and cheese steaks. The ham is chipped and the bun is not to over bearing. A nice balance of flavors. The price is reasonable too. It is only four blocks off of 78. Take the Hamburg exit not the Cabela's exit. If you are going east it is the exit immediately after passing Cabela's. If you are going west it is the exit before Cabela's, after the Lenhartsville Exit. If you are coming off 78 just turn right at the traffic light in town and it will be on your right. read more

The atmosphere is wide, bright, and clean. It offers a better dine-in experience than even some local chain stores, friendly service included. So far, the only disappointment I've had was with the sides. The pierogies were tough, chewy, and reminiscent of the frozen stuff. Fries were a bit too greasy and would turn soggy over time. I've been eating here for over 30 years but after today I'll never go back. We ordered without a problem for dine in. I ordered a Italian salad with creamy Italian dressing as I always do. After we sat down and paid I was told that they didn't have that salad dressing. I asked that it be packaged to go because most dressing doesn't go with those specific ingredients. Wait staff was very apologetic but it is what it is. Our food comes and my husband's burger is different than what he expected it to come. When he ordered he asked if the Western burger had bbq sauce and onion rings and such, he was told yes. It wasn't. It had chili on it instead. Not something that he likes. He takes it back and said that's not how he was told it would come. After an exchange he asked if he could have a refund. That's when shit hit the fan. The owner threw the burger against the wall and refunded the salad and burger and told us to get the fuck out in front of our three small kids and another family with small children that got up and left as we did. Continued to say they never carried the dressing I always get on my salad so basically calling me a liar. We still paid for the meals are children didn't get to eat and had to drive them to Wendy's for lunch. Great way to run a business into the ground. read more

Made with quality meats, cheeses, and rolls these sandwiches are packed. I love the crushed pepper and get it on every sandwich I order. It is tangy with just the right amount of heat. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Well worth the trip. Growing up in Berks County you know what a sub is supposed to taste like and this is it. I have to give second place to Fontano's in Chicago. Ive ordered from Hecky's many of times, and usually don't have a complaint but the last few times have been horrible. I ordered food for a group of us, and they forgot a sandwich, we are a local business, so when we asked if they could just deliver it to us, since our lunch break was over, the girl on the phone was rude and said the best she could do for us was to offer us a free sandwich, which didn't help our employee who didn't get her lunch. The last time I ordered I paid $6.50 for a small salad, I asked for croutons, which I didn't mind paying extra for. The salad was about $0.50 worth of lettuce, $0.02 worth of cheese and maybe $1.50 worth of tuna salad, no croutons. Not worth the hassle the last two times. read more

Hecky's opened the year I graduated from a high school located in the Hamburg area. I went directly into the Marine Corps after graduation and was afforded the opportunity to travel both CONUS AND OCONUS. I have yet to encounter a better sub than a Hecky's sub. We live in Maryland but our oldest son attends the same school we did "back in the day". Every visit with our son, which is at least once a month, we make a point of stopping by Hecky's. Every sub is as good as the last one and they've NEVER goofed up an order. We speak English so maybe that's the difference. As a kid growing up in Reading, PA we had a V&S shop one block away from our house. I'd walk or drive a mile out of my way for a Hecky's sub over V&S. read more
