Yesterday I ordered not 1, but 2 shrimp & octopus cocktails which came out to almost $40 plus I kindly tipped the cashier/server. LAST TIME WE EVER GO TO THIS HECTORS ! Drove about 18 minutes home to find the cocktails had no octopus. Called spoke to Orlando who said can you come back - not after driving all the way home , so he asked when we'd come back , he'd " hacerlo bueno". I know, it's my good friend favorite place, but, not mine. I've made three trips to Hectors now and all three times there have been problems. The real problem has been with the kitchen. The only thing that hasn't been overcooked, is the raw items. Everything else that I have ordered cooked has been overcooked, and I mean really overcooked. The shrimp, dried, the squid, dried, the fish, dried.....and I have no idea why. This place does a good business and the menu looks great. What is happening from the kitchen is another story. Bob Marley played easily upon walking through the door. Asked to self seat, I took the booth in the corner. Shortly after I was greeted with chips and salsa. Chips were fresh, if not slightly greasy, acceptable but worth mentioning. The salsa reminded me of El Pollo house salsa on overdrive. Same consistency and similar taste but with more flavor and heat. I quickly placed my order for an Indio beer, Siete Mares, a fish taco, and a side of avocado. The beer came ice cold with a frozen companion mug to pour at your leisure. Nice, that probably means their cocteles are served in glass as well. My first experience with this Mexican beer was nice and refreshing with a smooth finish. More please. Shortly after several reggae influenced songs in Spanish played my fish taco arrived and the music doubled in volume and started playing banda. The taco was pretty standard affair. A battered fish filet of some sort of tender tasty white fish, cream sauce, cabbage and a slice of avocado. It was good and I enjoyed it, but if you know where to get $0.99 fish tacos you might want to stick to that if you're on a budget. The siete mares was good and accompanied with 3 hot and tasty corn tortillas. I found a large Blue Crab claw, one Green Mussel, one Manila Clam, and a plethora of tasty White Fish, Bay Scallops, Squid, and Octopus, all cooked perfectly, resting in a hearty and rich hot broth. The staff can't speak English apparently because as I was trying to explain myself to the waitress says hold on, walks away and comes back to speak to a Spanish speaker at the table instead of me who had the meal that was fucked up. The food is over priced and pretty bland. You can get much better food at almost any taco shop. I absolutely love Hectors! I have been to this location many times for birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day and it never disappoints me. This last time I went, it was for my best friends birthday. It was me, her mom and her daughter. We ordered a few things to share. We both ordered Pacifico micheladas with lime juice only and they were delish and refreshing! We also ordered the molcajete, cucarachas(fried shrimp), and tostadas de camarón ceviche! Everything was absolutely delicious and our waitress was amazing too! Really bad mariscos. Got a tostada de pulpo. There was barely any Pulpo. It was cut down thinner than the red onion, and the cucumber . No flavor at all with the marisco. Way to acidic. Meaning, they sell margarita mixes, and rely on that for the alcohol (so 7% maybe?), and the food is absolutely terrible. Don't order the enchiladas, it's as familiarly generic as it gets as far as rotisserie unseasoned chicken, the only redeeming qualities are the chips. Everything was terrible. I'm quite torn on this review. It should be a 3.5 stars. This location is on the same lot as the Goodwill across from Costco. I used to come here when I was young after church, then they opened a newer one in Eastlake. On a whim, I was in the area with a friend and decided to check it out again after many years and they apparently have revamped and updated the interior. Flat screen TVs showing all sort of sports and flooring and walls re done! Tuesdays they have $1.00 tacos, it has avocado, sauce and good sized fish. And when it's not Tuesday, I'm a sucker for seafood chimichanga. It has scallops and shrimp and best to have this with the chipotle sauce. And the horchata is pretty darn yummy. Service can be hit or miss. They have specials on drinks on some times, buy one, get one for 99cent on things like michelada or modelo etc etc. I'll be coming back again, a lot less hectic than the Eastlake location.Watch out for the free salsa and chips, it's pretty spicy!! read more

Yep, this is the jammy jam right here! I gotta say this place came very highly recommended and it still has not disappointed. I have only been here twice, but this is over the past two weeks. The first time I ordered the grilled seafood combo (about $16) and the wifey got the paella (about $16) and we shared a fish taco ($2) and a gobernador ($3). This was way more food than we could eat, but it was our first time here. Their salsa is so amazingly good. It is fresh, just enough spice, lots of cilantro and just like the one I grew up on from our friends restaurant. They also brought out a fish soup that came with the meal, which was delicious, tomato-y, and had some rice in it.. The fish taco was perfection on the first visit. The perfect white sauce just like they do on the other side and all the correct fixins (i.e., cabbage, avocado, salsa fresca, etc.). On the second visit though they used lettuce and the white sauce was not quite as good. The gobernador was the bomb, as usual and was actually very similar to the calamari taco ($2) that we ordered on the second visit. My grilled seafood was very delicious, but it was so much food, there was no way I was gettin near finishing it. The paella was very good also, but a little different than the boricua type. It was still the bomb though. On the second visit, I got the coctel campechana ($12). This was pretty good, but brought them down a knotch. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, but I have had better. The octopus was cut up way too big, but the oyster was actually pretty good considering I don't even like oysters. The wifey ordered the Shrimp quesadilla, which was a shrimp quesadilla ($8). The thing was huge and came with rice and beans. The only nuance to this one was the shrimp were fried. If I would have written this after the first visit, hands down it would be a 5. I really only wanted to drop them down about a half star after the second visit, but that's not an option, so deal with it. Delicious seafood and definitely up there with Godoy and probably the others I haven't been to yet. read more

I am a huge fan of this place. The food is great and authentic. Prices range from $8-$19 per plate. The servings are generous and great for sharing. The service is good and they will accommodate to special requests. My favorite items on the menu are: - Salpicones (grilled shrimp in adovo sauce), -Toritos (yellow peppers stuffed with tuna and cheese crowned with a grilled shrimp all served over a bed of grilled onions), -Tacos hectors (fried shrimp and cheese tacos topped with lettuce, onions, avocado, cheese and cream) I recommend getting the order which comes with 2 tacos, rice and beans- great to share! - And my all time favorite which is not on the menu but they always make it for me is the Popeye oysters but I ask them to put bacon, shrimp and chipotle sauce in addition to the spinach and cheese. It's delicious!!! One thing to know is that the music is pretty loud. Not a place for a low key date, but great if you want good Mexican seafood. read more

Tables are to close together the guy sitting next to us tried to side down and his ass was on my table he apologize but it's not his fault. Food was ok the fish broth was not good too plain. Hectors mariscos in broadway is like the Godfather sequels... They went from excellent to horrible... A year ago, i would not go to another seafood place. This was a perfect conbination of great good and good service. The menu offered a wide variety with everything tasting delicious. Now, same menu, but less quality on the food. My girlfriends fish tacos were COLD! I understand the veggies are fresh, but it felt and tasted as if the tortilla never got heated. When i complained to the waiter, he gave me a bad look and came back 20 minutes later with what appeared to be the same tacos heated in a microwave.
