I've been coming to Hector's Mexican Food for a while now and realized I never actually left a review. The staff are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they consistently make you feel like a valued customer every time you walk in. The food is just as impressive. Everything I've had there has been fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It's one of those places where you know you're going to get a great meal every time. 2/2/2026 3:30pm. WOW!! If you want to be treated like ABSOLUTE TRASH by all means come here. I CANNOT remember being treated SO rudely for absolutely no reason. I was one of Hectors biggest fans until today. Came in. I was literally the only person there. Ordered two tacos to eat there. The older incredibly RUDE lady began packing up my order and I said I was eating there. She angrily snapped at me. "Did you say so when you ordered". I said "Yes". Then things got even worse when I had the audacity to ask for ONE extra salsa. Just one. She immediately began talking CRAP about me (RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME) in Spanish. BIG mistake. While I might look like a gringa, I grew up in Mexico. I am Mexican. Spanish is my first language. How dare she start talking crap about me for politely asking for one extra salsa REALLY!!!! I understood every grunt of vile disgust coming from her. Hector, we have met. We've talked. We've laughed when I told you you needed to serve beer. You can see my previous review. HOW CAN YOU LET THIS HAPPEN???? I would tell absolutely everyone about your amazing tacos. NOT ANY MORE. I am so disgusted. She thought I was white and she could disrespect me because I wouldn't understand and you weren't there. Are you serious??? This is what you allow to represent your business. Second time ordering food from Hector's and it did not disappoint. Very reasonable prices!!! I only wish I had ordered more salsa verde for my super burrito lol. I got the shredded chicken burrito and my boyfriend got the asada burrito. Both were really good but I would choose the shredded chicken any day. The burrito is huge too! I split it up into 3 separate meals lol. The salsa verde is really good as well! Highly recommend the salsa verde on any food options from here. The salsa roja is pretty spicy so beware. Both times we went, we got asada fries and it has become a must order for us. And usually went end up so full we save it for the next day and they are still as good when we reheat them. The people here are always very nice and helpful! They have outdoor seating which we loved. It's never too hot in Camarillo so it's always a good day to eat outdoors. It's ok. I don't want to knock a local business. But for the quality and price I would go to Establos or Potrillos instead (two local businesses just down the cornerl). Everything is additional here. It's 12.95 for a "great super burrito" and that doesn't come with sour cream or chips if you're taking it to go (that's extra). On top of that the meat was just ok. It had the essence of a taqueria burrito but didn't hit the same. The Al pastor was missing a depth to it and my brother noted the Asada was ok even suggesting liquid smoke was used to get a Smokey flavor. I did try their shrimp taco which was good but $5.50 for one taco is getting close to a whole meal at innout for a few dollars more. Granted shrimp is expensive. Glad there are folks who do like it to keep local businesses going. But it wasn't for me. read more

After seeing the amazing reviews this Mexican spot had I had to come try it. Unfortunately the food I tried I did not like very much! The flavor was not there for me personally. This is decent Mexican food but if you have had great mexican food I would try another place. I had an al pastor quesadilla and it was very greasy. It is a huge portion but I could not finish it because it was not to my liking. It is nice they offer sour cream and they do have lots of seating. Service was pretty quick as well. read more

They switched their beef to a cheaper cut. It's gone way down hill. I used to love this place, but cutting corners lost my future business.

What great food in a very off putting building. But that's Ok, it's exactly perfect in many ways as it is. Inconsistent comment? Yep, sure is, but many will understand. Between us we had a carnitas burrito, one of the best every, perfect in every way, and three chicken tacos that did not skip on the chicken and not a nasty piece to be found. And even the jamaica was not an afterthought and not sugary sweet as most are for my taste, it was just a bit tart. Might be the best I've had. The service is spot on, I had the impression they actually, really truly cared about the product and that you were happy with it. I might suggest they take a pressure washer to the oust side tables and patio area, but on the other it ain't broke so don't fix. read more

I had the super burrito with carne asada and I was not disappointed! The carne asada was phenomenal-- tender, juicy, and rich in flavor. The pinto beans were perfectly cooked and the tortilla was fresh. Add in some guacamole, pico de gallo, cheese and that's it! A shout out to their hot sauce -- the perfect pairing to the burrito. Total was $11 with tax. Last year I would have said that this was overpriced, but everything is more expensive these days and the quality justifies the price. Service was friendly and my burrito was ready in a few minutes. Saving this to my favorites for the next time I'm passing through Camarillo. read more

Listen, as a Mexican trying to find legit tacos in Camarillo...it's damn near impossible...BUT HECTORS got it right! Their asada is delicious. You can really tell it's high quality meat. Let me also just add, those frijoles! Bomb. I wish they had chorizo though. That would be the only downside of this place! I had the horchata too and that was crisp. I will go 4 stars as my Carne Asada Super burrito was very light on the avocado and much more beans than meat. The meat was tasty and they have good salsa. We have heard nothing but great things about Hector's so we decided to stop in. They did not disappoint. The super burrito and super quesadilla were delicious. Their carne asada is probably the best in town when it comes to getting a burrito. Very moist and has a ton of flavor. We heard the tacos are great too so we will be back for those. Had one bite of the burrito. Chicken was cold. Didn't eat the taco as it was loaded with beans. I've never had beans that were added to a taco. Menu is to the side, not In front where you order your food, and hard to read, beans were also under cooked. Quesadilla was greasy. Green salsa has no spice at all. Owner called me babe. The food here is the best Mexican food I've ever had. We have been here a lot but this time was especially perfect! We tried some different meats: Al pastor, carne asada, y carnitas. It was all so good. All meat so juicy and tender, but had a nice crust for a good bite. The fries with pastor is my favorite. The drinks are also HUGE and the best horchata and jamica I've had. The service is amazing, the owner himself was there and told us that he really appreciates our business. He was professional, caring & fast. Good at what he does for sure. I had a carne asada burrito that left me wondering if I had lost my sense of taste because it was the blandest, most flavorless burrito I've ever had. I asked for salsa which was no help.
