It's a spot on the small Channel Islands Campus. Picturesque. I got things to go. Very good taste. Excellent service. You get a disc that vibrates when your order is ready. The veggie burrito was really good and pretty big. Very fresh vegetables. I also ordered the fried zucchini. Had great flavor. Served on a small bed of cabbage and some mild chipotle and ranch were put in the bag. I think the ranch was the better of the two. I would suggest eating them there. The batter got a little soggy. But I did drive for about 15 minutes, after. The salsa bar is great. Many options and labeled well. Very clean environment. The indoor seating looked nice. The walls have interesting art. My kid wanted to eat here against my dismay. I ordered the Baja burrito and he got a regular bean, cheese, and rice burrito. Burritos come with tortilla chips. Absolutely no flavor, this is American style Mexican and it's just not good. Tried 4 different salsas and none of them were any special or even that spicy. To make matters worse, my stomach hasn't been the same since. Service was friendly and they have some decent alcohol selections here. Only reason for the 3 stars. Location- On Cal State Channel Islands Campus and is only about 4 miles from the Camarillo Outlets. Parking- Easy as there is a large lot right there. Tip- Make sure to check the signs and do not mistakenly park where you need a permit. There are many spots that do not require a permit. Service- Friendly Food- Had the house special burrito. This place is located in CUSCI in a nice courtyard area. The restaurant inside and the patio was clean with friendly and quick service. I took a star off as the nachos are your basic nachos, nothing really special about them but it will satisfy your nacho cravings. However, the grilled fish taco and the crispy fish tacos were fantastic. The fish didn't taste fishy which is a good thing in my opinion. The cilantro rice was nice and fresh. This place is located in the CSUCI college market/dining area, across from the pizza place and what looked to be the bookstore. I actually thought it was student dining at first and asked a student if I was in the right place. There was ample parking at 5:00pm, and there were families dining, not just students, most likely from the surrounding apartments and townhomes. Prices are reasonable and the food was on par with what you would expect in any food court. My party had the kids meal which had sliced apples, carrots, and crispy delicious chicken tenders with ranch. The 2 shrimp tacos I'm told were good, and worth coming back for, while the salsas were all pretty flavorful, the green being my favorite. Now here's the bad, the chicken enchiladas were on the "favorites" list so I ordered them, that was a mistake. The chicken was a hard grilled chicken, and the red sauce tasted like it was right out of a can, they were actually still somewhat cold. The rice and beans were flavorless, not gross, but just devoid of any flavor. I could see the rice and beans on the fork, could feel them in my mouth, but alas there was no taste. Disappointed and not wanting to torture myself any further, I didn't finish one of the enchiladas and opted to order a chicken Torta in hopes of getting the taste of the enchiladas out of my mouth. The torta tasted fresh, and did a good job of making up for the enchiladas. The horchata was watered down, more of a horchata flavored water than what an horchata should be. Despite the watery horchata and cold hard enchiladas, I would come back. With fast friendly service, a clean restaurant, and a college atmosphere, it's worth stopping in for a quick bite if you're in the area. That's this critic's review. read more

I'm seriously rethinking my patronage of this place. I went back, this time giving them an extra half hour to get opened up just in case. Thankfully they were open this time. However, this is the only time I've ever been in this place alone when it was relatively quiet. Firstly it was full of fruit flies. They were flying around my food as I tried to eat it. Gross. Ultimately it came back to customer service, though. I also work in the food service industry. From experience I know that kitchen staff often have colorful and crass banter on the line. In an environment where the customer can't see or hear kitchen staff it's rarely an issue. However, that's not the layout in this place. It's also not safe to assume that just because your customer is white that they don't understand enough Spanish to know when you're talking shit. I don't particularly like sitting in relative silence listening to the guys cooking my food talking about that "fucking white whore" in Spanish. Makes me question if their lack of professionality extends to my food. read more

Ordered the torta with steak which came with potatoes. Good amount of food, my mom and I shared without getting too full. It was a good tasting sandwich and they didn't skimp on the steak. Also ordered a churro which was perfect - the way it was cooked and the flavor. Would have loved to order a dozen of those! There are a few options for salsas at the salsa bar which I liked and were all very good but the one that was noted 'mild' was a little too spicy to be considered mild. A little pricey but expected for the location. Nice outdoor seating which is where we sat to let my little one run around but also seating indoors if you want to stay out of the heat. Being a CI student with not many choices to dine on campus, this is probably my favorite place to go. The quality and service is always outstanding! Tortillas was my staple while living at CI it's unfortunate that it's such a drive now all the way in the back up there, easy to miss unless you live up there or go to school nearby. Due to its location I don't get to frequent it often enough but when I do it's still got the same tasty food i remembered. Price: most items range around $8-10 so it's fair. For a starving college student not the cheapest but I believe the quality and taste to be worth it for the average person. Service: everyone there is always so so friendly I've never had any issues. Same cooks working you know they treat their employees good. I enjoy the smiling faces every time I go. Now for the food: solid 4 stars all around. The salsa bar is great plus a good selection of drinks, beer, sangria, and Agua Fresca. My favorite dishes are: Fried Fish burritos or tacos- delicious, I love the pink chipotle sauce and the fried batter is delicious! My go to now every time. Carne Asada Nachos- super large portions and filling! Delicious, great meal. Plenty of meat, sauces, and all the fixings it's great. Lastly, the carne asada torta is also really great. I live on campus and the only reason I go here is because I'm not willing to drive 20 minutes to the next closest Mexican restaurant. Strongly suggest to never eat the breakfast!!! Salsa's are subpar and tomatoes are never red, only green :( Burritos lack flavor & good portion of meat. If this place was in a actual city, it would shut down within the year! Came in here for lunch and specifically ordered crispy fish tacos. I got grilled instead. When I called, I was courteous and informed them about their error. I was placed on hold and a manager rudely, and quite confrontationally, barked at me "what's the problem? Bring the food back. Why are you making things difficult?" The tone in which he delivered that sounded almost like a challenge. In addition to that, the food is often subpar, typically over seasoned and overcooked. Several times the salsas were also off and gave me or my guests an upset stomach afterwards. Their drinks are also over sweetened. I have patronized this business for years, mainly due to the convenience, and have often taken entire groups and footed the bill. No longer will they receive my business. I urge everyone else to do the same and go somewhere else. In the very least you can find someone professional, not a crude, and aggressive manager that lacks basic emotional intelligence and courtesy. read more
