One of the not-so-secret gems of Rochester! Hedonist makes some great chocolates with unusual flavour combinations. Their salted caramels are some of my favourite things in town. They do not shy away from the salt and I appreciate that. I also love their sipping chocolates - pricey but so rich that you won't need the typical hot cocoa serving size. When the owners are here, they are always so friendly and warm. The other employees are a little less predictable - they range from very helpful to quite uninterested. Hedonist is on my must-stop list for Christmas gifts. I do think you have to be a dark chocolate lover to really appreciate Hedonist's creations. A lot of my friends who love milk chocolate aren't fans of Hedonist at all (I stop at Stever's for them). Given how pricey Hedonist is, I do tend to limit the purchases for people who are really special.....and yes, I often find my own name on my Hedonist recipient list. read more

For my wife's birthday, I wanted to do something special and decided to order some chocolates online. I went to the Hedonist Artisan Chocolates website and placed an order for a box of their Cholocate Armored Hedonist and a box of their Spring Tea truffles. I was ordering them several weeks before my wife's birthday, but made a request that they arrive a day or so before the day. I got an email from Hedonist immediately telling me it would be no problem and they would delay the shipment. I got them on Friday and her birthday was on Monday. Perfect timing. As for the chocolates, I am low carb boy, so I have not tried them, but my wife had gotten sick from some pizza she ate and nothing sounded good when she was recuperating except something sweet. She tried the Chocolate Armored truffle, which is peanut butter, chocolate, and honey. She loved them and that was what got her through. She said they were one of the best truffles she has ever had and also loved the Tea truffles. An excellent experience with this company, their products are beautifully packaged, and the quality of the chocolate was extremely good. This was an excellent experience and I highly recommend giving them a try. read more

Espresso bark has bits of espresso, the chocolate smooth. Each type of homemade chocolate tastes exactly like its name whether lavender or chipotle orange or ginger. The chocolate is pricey but it's high quality, you pay for what you get. Any chocoholic in need of a chocolate fix needs a hedonist visit. read more

I stopped by Hedonist for the first time today. It being Christmas and all I needed some stocking stuffers. I was initially sticker shocked when I saw the prices, but after sampling some chocolate I decided to give it a whirl. Upon closer examination, this place is way better than Stover's, don't get me wrong, Stover's is good, but Hedonist is just what they claim - Artisan! I custom picked my 10 piece box ($20) but the flavors were very unique, and I'm glad I decided to try Hedonist over my usual stop at Stover's My Selections included: Champagne Pomegranate Peanut Butter Curry Pop Rock 76% with nibs and I'm blanking no the rest - stay tuned for after Christmas update ;-) read more

Fantastic! Whether you like truffles, chocolate bark, chocolate covered fruits, etc... Hedonist is a delicious place to treat yourself. Truffles are individually $2 but I prefer the box of randoms you can get by the cash register for $10. It's a great deal. The chocolate is fantastic! They can personalize chocolate for companies and weddings. I love how integrated and supportive South Wedge businesses are to each other. Hedonist brews their coffee for their chocolate across the street. The coffee shop sells their chocolates. It's a sweet, friendly atmosphere! I'll be back! read more

I LOVE HEDONIST CHOCOLATES! Everyone I send them to loves them and every experience I have had with them has been great. They hand write your cards for a personal touch! Even the emoticons! :) I once sent chocolates to myself (guilty!) and a present and the box never arrived. I called the office and they resent another box, fast, for free after hearing my situation. I will never buy chocolate from anywhere else. And after sending to my parents for mothers/fathers day multiple times, my parents have started sending as gifts. I have had the time to meet owners Jennifer Posey and Zahra Langford a few times and they are super friendly and always engaging in conversation! True Rochester Entrepreneurs! This place has is a hit with us as chocolate lovers. We tried several flavors, which were all tasty. Hands down our favorite was the chocolate salted caramel. I visited Hedonist for the first time this afternoon with two friends. I purchased the Cinnamon Chipotle Drinking Chocolate and five truffles. After supper this evening I allowed myself to indulge a little. I chose the Orange Clove truffle, which is part of their Holiday Collection (unknown to me at the time). I love clove and enjoy orange in some applications, so this truffle seemed like an obvious choice. As many people know, clove can become too intense very quickly. Therefore, to gauge the flavor of this piece I first bit off a corner. I tasted the clove immediately. It did not overwhelm the creamy dark chocolate but rather it was perfectly balanced with the chocolate. I ate two more corners, slowly... savoring each bite. Finally, I ate the rest of the truffle, including the bit of orange peel that was on top. I thought the previous nibbles were delicious but the last bite astonished me. The flavor of the orange peel popped in my mouth with the warmth of the clove and the smooth chocolate and, literally, an exclamation of praise escaped my lips. I have been trying to think of a chocolate I have enjoyed more, but I cannot. I will note that artisanal chocolates are not new to me. For more than a decade I have enjoyed offerings from artisanal chocolatiers in every city I have visited throughout the country. I can think of several chocolates that I have truly loved but none that have surprised me like this one has. I regret not trying this in the shoppe and purchasing an entire box of them. Hedonist's seasonal collection for the winter is the Spice Collection. I wish they would make this truffle part of that collection. read more

The smell when you walk into Hedonist is incredible. The store is simple and the staff is very friendly and helpful. You can tell that they like being there. My favorite treat from Hedonist is the milk chocolate dipped caramels with sea salt. My favorite of their packaged assorted chocolates is the spice one with candied ginger, curry and wasabi and other spices you wouldn't immediately imagine work well with chocolate. In addition to eating Hedonist chocolate, I highly recommend giving the assortments as gifts. They're as beautiful as they are delicious and the packaging is classic and pretty. You can even "build your own" box of assorted pieces. Whenever I visit business associates, friends, or family outside of NY I bring Hedonist Caramels as an example of some unique Rochester NY goodness. read more

Great little shop in the South Wedge with truely gourmet chocolates. I learned about these chocolates at Ravines winery on Keuka Lake where they pair the wines with the chocolates from Hedonist. It was a very nice experience. We bought some chocolates at the winery and then went to the shop in the South Wedge to purchase gifts. I've been back many times and love that the different holidays bring unique flavors to capture the season and occasion. So far, the Valentine's raspberry truffles are the ones to beat! read more

I don't believe you will even understand when I state that this establishment is a treasure in not only the wedge but the whole of Rochester. The chocolatiers make THE most delicious chocolate creations. Works of art that make you super happy. The ice cream shop right next door is also a must stop and get any flavor to sample and gorge on the super flavorful unique ice creams. My favorite is the root beer floats and truffles. I love Sea Salt Carmels and Hedonist is on my top 3 list! Some carmels are too soft on the inside but this one perfect.

I am quite the chocoholic and this chocolate was not only delicious but interesting. White chocolate and mint, fig and vinegar and salt are just a few of the more interesting flavors found in the candies here. The owner was there and very friendly. My husband was in Rochester and he decided to get me a box of chocolate because he was eating his lunch at a restaurant next to this chocolate shop. I really enjoyed his sweet gesture and the chocolate!! He asked a lady at the shop to pick flavors to fill the box, everything in the box was sooo good! I'm not a fan of hazelnut chocolate, but their hazelnut flavor is so favorable and matches perfectly with the dark chocolate. Raspberry is also not my favorite, but it was so good and there is no artificial flavor that I always taste after I east any kind of berry flavor chocolate. Very good experience. Chocolate was good but OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced. While picking out 10 pieces I was trying to figure out why it was less expensive buying single pieces. I was told they charge $2 for the box. Come on folks... It's a box. That price should be absorbed in the overhead. So after opening the "box" ... The size of the pieces are smaller than a quarter. The overall experience did not justify the expense. I can't imagine what the cost is per pound!!!! Won't be back. read more

I just want to vent I think. I live in the South Wedge and am a strong supporter of local businesses. Because of the prices, I have only purchased chocolates here a handful of times. They are wonderful but I am sad to say that I will not be frequenting them again. The customer service was definitely in need of upgrading. I purchased one of their groupons. I was not fortunate enough to be able to use it before expiration. I inquired about the groupon and the girl at the register laughed in a not so nice manner and said that the groupon was no good. I couldn't figure out if she was joking or just being mean. It was the latter. I am sorry but I understand an expiration date is an expiration date but money already spent is money already spent. I am sorry about the whole experience and will not be frequenting the establishment again. This makes me sad because it looks as if they are possibly moving into a larger building in front right on South Ave. Also because I do promote their business to my neighbors. Good chocolates but bad business. :( read more
