Hedonist is a cute and quaint ice cream shop with super friendly staff. The dine in/Sit in area is quite small, so if you come as a group of 12 like we did, we pretty much took up the entire area. With so many choices of different ice cream flavours, it was hard to choose, but the staff there were more than happy to give us samples to try. I settled for the baklava flavoured ice cream. It has to be one of the best flavours of icecream that I've tried. I'm usually not a fan of baklava because i find it way too sweet, but this ice cream had a good balance and it had a lot of nuts and flaky pastry mixed in. They certainly do not skimp on their ingredients! Also, the single scoop is huge........i couldn't finish it. I regret not getting a kiddie sized portion.... Finally made it here! I've been excited to try their unique flavors for so long. There were six flavors to choose from when we went, I think. I couldn't settle on just one (of course) so I went with lavender lemongrass and funnel cake ($4 for two flavors, I think a "small", but my friend had one flavor and that was $3 so I'm not sure). It was a good amount of (homemade) ice cream for the price and bonus points for the bamboo spoon! I loooooved the lavender lemongrass and thought the funnel cake was just okay, but I'm not a huge funnel cake fan to start with and the chunks were kinda big. A waffle cone was pretty standard at $1 extra and you could smell/see (the waffle irons all lined up) how fresh they are! This place is sooooo good. They cycle through flavors. I tried the Coconut Passionfruit with Truffle chunks in sweet cream and the carrot cake. I know, wildly different flavors but both were delicious!!! The shop itself is pretty tiny, but there is a nice outdoors area a couple of doors down that you can enjoy your ice cream at. The staff is wearing masks, there is hand sanitizer, and they have distance between where the kiosk is and where you pay. There is plenty of street parking available on the road. Ooooooooof this ice cream is so good. This South Wedge staple has cured my ice cream cravings on a number of occasions, most recently being this past Friday. The staff here is awesome and ready to serve up a sample of anything you want to try. They also had an AWESOME playlist while we sat and enjoyed our treats. Throwbacks galore. I sampled the molasses and the pumpkin, and both were absolutely delicious. I went with a kiddie (one scoop) of the molasses and it was the perfect amount for those wishing to indulge but not go overboard. I tried some of my date's vanilla and salted caramel cone and have to say...his choice was also INSANELY delicious. Each ice cream is rich and jam packed with flavor, all while being reasonably priced. If you haven't been to Hedonist for chocolate or ice cream, don't wait until the summer rolls around to get into the season! Grab a cone or dish on a random winter weeknight to beat the winter blues. Sometimes you want ice cream and sometimes you need to drive from Buffalo to Rochester just to try some new ice cream, and that's exactly what we did in the Fourth of July so we could check out Hedonist Artisan Ice Cream in Rochester! We came here mid-afternoon (hoping they were open) and were pleasantly surprised to see this cool like ice cream shop. The inside is small but offers seating and had a nice look to it. The menu is posted on the wall and seems to change depending on the flavours currently made. I ended up getting a medium salted caramel and chocolate with some little marshmallows on top (which made a huge difference, I sure do love little marshmallows) in a waffle cone. The ice cream itself was very smooth and absolutely delicious, and that can be said for both flavours. Overall, this is a terrific little ice cream shop in what seems to be a neighborhood that is rebuilding. The staff was friendly, the establishment was nice, and the ice cream was delicious. I love the fact that they have cool flavors like Lemon thyme sorbet and Peanut butter caramel. Absolutely delicious ice cream! My family and I stopped in after a lovely dinner for some dessert. I got the coconut sorbet, and it was some of the best sorbet I had ever had. It was a very fresh and real tasting coconut compared to some sunscreen tasting coconut I have had before. It was super light and creamy. The staff was also very kind, letting us sample the ice creams before we all decided on what we wanted. Make sure to get your punch card punched before you leave! Fun unique flavors. When we visited there was a yam flavored ice cream. It was surprisingly delicious. Never did I ever think I would run into yam ice cream but yeah I'm impressed, it works pretty well. Why I've not written a review on this place before is beyond me. I've been here a few times with friends. It's next door to the chocolate shop. They have a few small tables but it's more of a place to get your ice cream to go. You can get a cup, cone or a pint packed up to go. Although they don't have a ton of ice cream that's not the point, less does mean more in quality and taste. All of the flavors are fabulous and worth a try. You can sample before you buy. I've had the chocolate, salted caramel, strawberry and more. They also have toppings for your ice cream if you so desire. FYI they have dairy free options so.. fortunately or unfortunately this place is not exactly close to our house thank goodness. And parking can be tricky in this area. Wow. Wow. Wow. Many moons ago, I had a summer job at an ice cream stand. I loved ice cream before then, but after landing the job I was hooked. An ice cream lover always, I love trying unique joints, and Hedonist captures everything I love in an ice cream parlor. They keep it simple which, in my opinion, is the right way to go. They only had 10 flavors (all homemade), handmade waffle cones, and a nice selection of toppings. It was a tough choice, but my friend and I opted to get a pint of vanilla to have later. I'm sure you're in disbelief: how could vanilla warrant a rave review? When I tell you it was the richest, most flavorful vanilla ice cream I've ever had, I'm not lying. We bought some fresh fruit to put on top and it made for a perfect summer treat. The worker who helped us (I'm so sad I didn't get her name, she was awesome) offered great conversation and insight into Hedonist's flavors. Hot damn! The majority of the ice cream here is decadent and their waffle cones are straight fire. A small is $5 and you get 2 sizable scoops of some premium ice cream. Rich taste and some interesting flavor combos. A big bonus is that they're open quite late, think 8p or later most days, which means you can fill that late craving. Located in the funky South Wedge community, this is one of the 3 famous ice cream stands here in Rochester. The low down is, if you are going for sophisticated flavors, there is a cult fan club of the small but high quality selection of Hedonist. If it's cream you're after, then go to Pittsford Dairy. If it's bigger and more typical Baskin Robbins feel you like, consider Abbots Ice cream. When I ask Rochesterians about ice cream, it seems that the conversations become a debate between Pittsford Dairy vs. Hedonist. The take away is what I said above. Hedonist rotates their flavors out every week or two, leaving its followers always anticipating their next bold and sophisticated flavor. Hedonist is more of an artisan chocolate shop meets ice cream. So the craft really comes in marrying the flavor craftsmanship that comes with a candy shop with an ice cream that is not too heavy, overwhelming, or sugary. Hedonist does just that. They are the only place that can make a non dairy Chocolate somehow so smooth that if you're a chocolate fan, you'll be impressed that it's not chalky and does not rely on the cream to bring out its flavor, just like a good artisan made chocolate bar should be. Their Concord grape is apparently also a hit. I was skeptical. Grape flavor ice cream? Sounds kinda funky. It was delicious; think grape jam meets smooth gelato. Overall safety is good for COVID. they allow one group at a time. I've seen them always wear masks, but in past reviews it depends on the scooper. Some people, like all places you go, don't wear masks correctly. But for the most part I would say they are safer than Pittsford and Abbots and most places. read more

So far I've had their salted caramel, pistachio, rose and chocolate, and matcha. It's 4 bucks for two flavors in a cup/cone. The conventional flavors were creamy and nice, like any good ice cream. I recently went again and tried the two novel flavors. Rose&chocolate is rose ice cream with bitter cocoa nibs. The rose flavor was intense but I think due to the nature of this ingredient, it was difficult to achieve good emulsion and make it creamy and buttery. It tasted thin on the tongue and looked more like compacted snow. Maybe it was a lack of fat. Matcha was also thin and had a powdery texture on the tongue. The color looked identical to actual matcha powder but less bright. Both were not overtly sweet, which is a good thing for me. read more

Oh yeah, this is the type of place that really appeals to my "Thrill of the Hunt" instinct, not only to find a place like this, but regarding the wide variety of flavors. There will only be a few - about 8 - at a time, and because they only have about 2 gallons of a flavor available at any time, a popular flavor will go fast. Some of the flavors are traditional, and some are innovative. The prices come closer to gelato than ice cream, but for the less common flavors, you do get enough flavor to make it worth it, in my opinion. The decor is fun too, and very "neighborhood appropriate." As an example, today, one of the flavors was Honey Almond Crunch, which I sampled. To my surprise, it had the strong and distinct flavor of cardamom. They could have just as easily called it "Chai Crunch."
