I really wanted to like this place a lot. I wanted to love it-it's pretty new and I live close by. The nigiri sushi was beautifully presented and good quality cuts. However, the rolls were not that good IMO: we got a CA roll and it was just off. How can a CA roll be bad? The wait staff didn't seem to be quite with it, really slow, but friendly. Finally got to try the new sushi spot in town! It's actually pretty good. Our personal go-to fav will always be Kiku but Heemo did not disappoint. This place just opened a little more than a month ago I think. I'm glad I stopped in. Nice unpretentious place for some good basic sushi. I say basic only because I didn't order the plethora of speciality rolls they also have. My first appraisal of a good authentic place are the basics which wowed me. Read some online reviews so hubby and I decided to support a new, local sushi spot and check it out. Not disappointed at all. Very welcoming and good service. Owner and wait staff checked on us often enough. Tried my all time favorite, crispy rice with spicy tuna and it was fresh and delicious! We tried their Heemo roll. If you like spicy I highly recommend. The fried sweet potato shavings on top was a great flavor and nice crunch. We may have found our new favorite sushi restaurant. We like trying small local shops so we can find our spot. This is a little hidden gem, tucked into the sleepy corner above the Starbucks off Buena Vista, was great on takeout night! Amazing pricing, the fish was cold and buttery, good combinations, love that they put the sauces on the side to go. We order two miso soups - good flavor and still hot when we got home. Started with the Yellowtail roll, simple but fish was good. Then the South roll, the salmon and tuna were vibrant and the roll was delicious didn't stand a chance. The crunch was okay, used to it having cucumber but this version only had avo. The tuna lovers - again yummy vibrant tuna over spicy tuna yum. I want to give this place solely five stars because the service is excellent, prices are fair, and tasty. I love the community feel and the warm hospitality of this establishment. The only thing I would suggest is to remove the rotating lights because it can become a health hazard to anyone that suffers from reoccurring seizures. It also takes away from the great and beautiful decor and ambience that the restaurant has. Short and simply, the lights get annoying after a while. First off on what I ordered, there's an abundance of imitation crab in the rolls so if you like an abundance of crab in your rolls, then this is your place! Great little spot came here after playing a round of golf at Rancho Duarte on a Thursday afternoon. Was very quiet, but looked like it was a frequent haunt for local workers in general, saw some nurses and business people come in on their lunch breaks! The inside was clean and had some cute decor. The owners seem nice as well as the chefs and servers. The rolls here were huge, which was unexpected but nice, since I was really hungry, so definitely was great in terms of value. I ended up ordering way too much but it was okay since I wanted to try a variety of things. The quality of fish was good! I definitely will be coming back here some time! I've gotten sushi from here before but today was my first time eating here and I can't imagine going anywhere else from now on. It's still hard for me to take my daughter anywhere (she's 7 months old) because I'm nervous how she'll react while people are enjoying their meals but the staff made our lunch so memorable. Maybe it was the owner stopped by to say hi to my daughter and spoke to us for a little bit and our waitress was so sweet and offered to bring her a miso soup. Heemo Sushi's lunch special can't be beat! My coworker introduced me to this restaurant and I've come back many times since. You get so much delicious sushi for a decent price. The rice to fish ratio is just right. $15 for a roll and 4 huge sushi pieces can't be beat. The staff is always kind and they checked in with us a couple times during our meal.
