Uruapan is a local favorite for Irwindale and nearby locals. I've been here a couple times in the past, and I seem to come back for the same dish; the fish in diabla sauce. This is spicy and not all places can make it good. Over here, they get it right, with the flavor and spiciness and the tender bites of fish. The service here is pretty good. They always give you complimentary chips and salsa, and soup. Either fideo or lentil. Enjoy this authentic restaurant, cool for groups and apparently, they have a night scene too read more

The food is great, lunch menu has a wide variety, prices are reasonable BUT when they give you chips and salsa you only get 1 per to go order or they will charge you. I had other people order with me from work and we order about 10 entrees and they refused to make an exception. I wasn't even asking for one per entree....just like maybe 3 for 10 orders....but no. They told me to place 10 separate orders next time. When you dine in though they give you a complimentary little cup of soup....i think that's awesome. It changes but they're all very good. The lobster was bland and the rice was flavorful but kinda lukewarm. The salmon was hot and seasoned well. The homemade corn tortillas were appetizing. Their pomegranate margarita, chips, beans, and salsa were delicious. The service was good. The host and the waiter were very attentive and nice. Great food, drinks are good too, service is nice. But the live banda OMG to loud. Ok this is how it feels, my sister and I sit way in the back so we won't be too close to the band. As we sit there, the music is so loud we can't talk to each other while it's playing,. We make tense faces and cringe. As soon as the music stops, [they take breaks to collect $25 per song]. It's like a big relief, your body just relaxes, but minutes later the music starts again and the cringe starts again and the banging in the ear start again. Came here with my mom and her bf to try the food, since we always pass by the restaurant, we are new to the area, so we would see this place all the time, gotta say the food is expensive and we end up getting the ostiones preparados. Those were good. But we got also got the fried pulpos. Those were horrible!! It seemed like I was eating "gum" they horrible! Came here with my wife and mom for lunch on a Friday. Both my mom and I got whole Lobster plates. Delicious! Reminded us of our trips to Puerto Nuevo when I was a kid. I asked for Mexican rice and beans instead of baked potato and white rice. They gladly served my request. We also got some shrimp on our plates unexpectedly. We were happy with our food. I've been coming here for years ! Since the establishment opened. I've come during lunch hours, early and late dinner times. I enjoy they band when they do have it. I've even gotten up to dance a few times. I've come with family to celebrate any special occasion, this is one of our go to's. We know it's a bit on the pricy side but what place isn't. The reason I give it 3/5 starts is because customer service can be better, drinks can be better, they're restrooms can be better, & food can sometimes come out overcooked/burnt. The reason I come back is because there is one dish that is always good and no one can do it like they can & that's the molcajete! I'll always come back for it. Hopefully in the years to come they can renovate it because it's been well enough years now, the restrooms not flushing or the sinks looking like it's on their last straw is not okay. The people who work at the front counter are so rude it's really sad they ruin the experience of the entire restaurant. Last time I ordered for pick up they messed up the entire order so I called for a refund and they said they would just give me something free next time and they could just write my name down. What kind of system is that? I tried calling to order for take out again and the girl who answered the phone really should have a job where she doesn't speak to costumers, she was so rude I ended up not even wanting the food. We stopped by Mariscos Uruapan while waiting for an open house in the area and were pleasantly surprised with the taste of the food. We ordered one of their shrimp ceviche appetizers and the carnitas plate. The ceviche was very tasty but I wish there was more shrimp and a little less cucumber. But the salsa they brought to top it was delicious. I liked that they gave tostadas and saltine crackers. The carnitas weren't bad, not too greasy or dry and the rice and beans were good. I ordered an agua de tamarindo and it tasted like the ones that come out of the dispensers, it was too sweet so I traded it for a coke without any issues. The service was fine nothing extraordinary but not poor. The place gave cool night club vibes. They had good Mexican music playing throughout which made it a fun meal. We've been going to Mariscos Uruapan for years and have never been disappointed. The servings are big, the service is good with friendly staff and they make great margaritas. The molcajetes are all delicious, especially the mar y tierra one. Another favorite is the shrimp fajitas and mojarra frita a la diabla. During the week the restaurant is not too busy so seating is immediate and the service is fast. Even on busy weekends with live entertainment, the food and service do not suffer. We had oysters, a tostada, a marisco molcajete and aguachile. If you're a mariscos novice, any of these will do as beginner plates. Tostada is just fish ceviche but in a generous portion and so well done, it's like you're trying it for the first time again. The oysters are fresh and actually very fairly priced. The ones we tried were topped with shrimp and avocado. Outstanding! The molcajete is also fantastic. Sizzling bowl of salsa with fish, octopus, shrimp, steak, chicken, a chunk of Mexican cheese and a big ol leaf of cactus. The thing is incredibly tasty and just causes a stir when it arrives. I love love love their molcajete, yes I know it's a mariscos place, and yes I have had their mariscos which are also very yummy. But their molcajete de carne, pollo y puerco.... Omg, that with a michelada... muah... that was me kissing my finger like a chef does. Lol. Only thing That kinda sucks about this place, but at the same time doesn't, is the live music. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance is awesome.
