I've know about Hegenburger for years but for some reason never tried them out until today. I have to say it was one of the juiciest burgers I've had in a while. I prefer my burgers cooked over charcoal or gas, but this was a damn good burger cooked on a flat top. The ingredients were also very fresh. The bun was noticeably fresh, too. First of all, the prices on yelp are very very wrong. The man said they haven't had $5 burgers in 10 years, but I honestly kind of expected that because who sells burgers for that price anymore? I came in one day on a visit from Sacramento. I was going to head to in n out but then came across this place so I decided to stop by here instead. When I first walked in the place is clean. You can see what goes on in the kitchen and everything looks nice fresh and clean. My order was ready very fast. I got a bacon burger with a side of garlic fries. So I have been going to this fantastic "Asian" burger spot for many many years, uhm close to 20 years come to think of it...damn I'm old now. Just today I learned that it has been under new ownership for the past 5-6 years. Thank you for being so great and consistent. Your customer service is on point. And your food is perfect. I always used to drive by this place on my way to and from Oakland Airport and wonder about it and now the wondering is over. I have finally gone here and had something and the food is delicious. I had the Philly cheese steak with peppers, onions and mushrooms. They really load it with cheese. This is a great cheese steak. I had the fries and a soda with it. I really enjoyed the food here and would go again. Everything was tasty and enjoyable. I am picky about my cheese steaks and this had a good ratio of meat to cheese to roll. The only thing I would want is for them to toast the roll. But it was still very good. For covid things right now - they have a few outside seats and you cannot eat inside there so keep that in mind. What a pleasant surprise this hole in the wall restaurant was. Came here with 10 others after a nearby golf game. The pretty Asian Korean lady behind the counter was so helpful. She recommended ordering their signature burger which also came with fries which I upgraded to crispy garlic fries and a soda - not from the fountain but any bottles Or canned soda from the refrigerator which I helped myself to a diet Snapple. The signature burger was delicious - cooked medium rare and juicy with grilled onions. Very tasty and perfectly seasoned with the pepper jack cheese. The garlic fries was perfectly fried and was great accompanying my burger. Had just the right amount of garlic! We must come back to try all the other menu items. It had been at least 10 years since I last enjoyed the Hegenburger. Finally stopped by for a lunch and to reengage my taste buds with their signature named burger. I wasn't disappointed. While it's not the best burger I have enjoyed, it's in the top 3. I'd rank it above a Nation's Giant Burger for those of you keeping track. Val's in Hayward is still my #1 all-time fav burger. The Hegenburger with cheddar is no slouch when it comes to flavor. The person responsible behind the grill cooked it perfectly to my request of Med-Rare. Nice & juicy 1/3# hamburger patty on an extremely soft and fresh bun. Delish! Their generous portion of 'small fries' weren't as crispy as I'd like. However I'd bet if they were fresh out of the fryer, they'd be a 5/5. Not over-salted either. The onion rings however were excellent, and Top-of-the-Onion-Ring list in my book. Again, a very generous serving for their 'Small' size. There is a friendly and helpful staff. The menu contains many more offerings available than just burger and fries. Right down the road from the Oak-Town Airport. This might be the place to stop b/f flying out, or after a long tiring flight in to 'Get Yer Eat On'. Time to go have a Hegenburger! read more

The bun was spectacular. But my chicken though cooked well was extremely dry. But since I had a great amount of mayo and mustard (prep by cook), it sort of camouflaged the dryness. But it was edible and most likely will eat it again. Fried were cooked right. They were some little skinny things but hey..... This burger joint is very near the Oakland airport near where you return the rental cars. I needed lunch before flying home so I stopped here. Parking was plentiful as they have their own lot. I ordered their regular Hegenburger 1/3 lb. with fries and a drink for a combo. I saw they also offered chili with beans so I had them add a cup of that too. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes. First the burger was a nice sized and dressed burger and liking it I gave it a 3.5. The fries were ok but they were your standard frozen out of a bag type so I rated them a 3. The chili that had beans was a 5. Excellent! Great flavor. I loved the taste and I like my chili with beans. Seriously, you can make an excellent meal with just the chili and some crackers. I think this is a good basic place to eat. While I loved the chili since it's primarily a burger and fries place my visit makes me give an overall score of a 3. It not quite 4 territory especially considering the fries. read more

She's very inpatient it was my first time there they have a menu that doesn't explain what's on each burger when asked she huffed and puffed rolled her eyes and said she was busy smh. Wimpy would be happy to have a burger from Hegen Burger. Stopped here for a quick lunch after a visit to the open air museum. I had a patty melt and a coffee milkshake. The patty melt was hot and the milkshake was thick. My son had a Raiders burger combo and soda. His burger had all the fixings and the french fries which accompanied it tasted like real potatoes, not reconstituted. Dad had the patty melt and a chocolate milkshake. First time at this local burger shop just outside Alameda/OAKland and located on the road to the airport. After perusing the menu I picked the double hamburger with AMERICAN cheese and a side of fries. This was a 2/3 pound of burger, topped with lettuce and tomato. The person who took my order was very friendly and pleasant, and served me my burger combo when it was ready. The fries were thin, tasty and crispy, just like MCD, but not Salty!! This burger was my main lunch entree and it was juicy and delicious!!! I relished every hamburger bite and found myself counting my invisible calories. I ordered coffee to drink and it was fresh and hot. The same nice lady served my coffee directly to my table, so I never had to get up throughout the meal. I used to come here a loooong time ago when I was a mid-level ad production gal in San Francisco and had to visit some vendors out in the East Bay. As a Louisiana native, I tend to like unassuming places that serve food, but outside of South Louisiana, it can be a crapshoot. The Hegenburger did not disappoint and became a destination every time I was sent across the bridge for work or fun. But, I had not been in a while and decided to take my son out for lunch at the beginning of summer. I told him that I didn't know if it was still there and wasn't sure it would be as good as I remembered. He was game. Not only was it as good, it was BETTER. God, I think this might be the best burger in the Bay Area. The parking lot is still a minefield and the line was long, but the service was swift and friendly and when our burgers arrived, I was just over the moon at how they looked and then how they tasted. So good, cooked as we ordered them, juicy. Nothing over the top gourmet about this, just a burger as it should be. Fries were good too. I watched the young worker the entire time I waited for my food and at first she was in the kitchen handling the food with her bare hands. Then she went and answered the phone and took an order. After that she started ringing up customers handled MONEY. Went to a back room for a box, came back and I thought she'd wash her hands.
