French Crunchy Special Roll and Chirashi Sushi
    Michael P.

Came here with a large group and you know what? The sushi was great. Best in the state? Well, not exactly. But the fish was fresh, the service was exceptionally great considering we had 10 people and we had a great time! The chirahashi was a nice dish for a "lighter" option, and when I say lighter, I really just mean I didn't want to fill up on all specialty rolls. Very healthy portion of fish over a bed of rice. I thought the pineapple and bamboo shoots had a bit of an odd flavor, but it was easily ignored. The French crunch roll was very good. A little softer texturally than I was expecting but I enjoyed it a lot. I tried a few other pieces of sushi from friends and honestly, all their specialty rolls were good. Give it a shot for sushi, especially if you need a large crowd accommodated.

Hei place is a go to for me if I want a larger amount of sushi at a good price. I highly recommend the Love boat and have yet to find a better Lychee martini in RI. Warning that they are stronger than they taste!

Udon Noodle Soup with 3 Tempura Shrimp
    Mike F.

This place never disappoints. The crab Rangoons are deliciously filled with a creamy cream cheese and crab filling. The edamame has a hint of salt and steamed to perfection. Then the Udon noodle soup is great when flavored with a little Hoison sauce. Not to mention it is served with 3 fried shrimp. The service is pretty good as long as you come when it is not packed. Overall if you haven't been here you def need to try. I would give it a 4.5 but 4 is the closest.

    Fired Roll (decent)

Here's an interesting non-fiction anecdote. Once upon a time, two brothers invested over four million dollars into an antiquated pizza establishment in the heart of North Providence, on the bustling Mineral Spring Avenue. This fancy, shiny koi welcoming palace is known as Jacky's Galaxie. Unfortunately, these brothers clashed like two cymbals. One Chef brother split and decided to start his own enterprise. This new venture would be known as Hei Place. It shares ambiance, but is lacking something. The service is average. The food is hit or miss. The location is strategic. Overall, 3.75 with a round up for posterity. Bon appetite!

    Cantonese Noodles with Bean Curd

This was my first time dining inside and not getting take out. My takeout experiences are always easy and my order is correct. I usually call ahead or order online. This time we came in for dinner. Wow; it was crowded as there aren't a ton of tables but after a short wait we were seated. The space was clean and service was great. The food took a little while but no complaints because it was very crowded. Our sushi was perfect! It was tasty, rolled properly and no mess/falling apart. Our meals were perfect. The only thing I found a bit weird is that the dinner doesn't come with rice, you have to order some. I'm not sure who just wants to eat a place of sesame chicken and nothing else but other than that no complaints. My drink was also good! We will definitely be back.

The food is delicious whether your ordering Chinese, Sushi, or appetizers. If you like Hot & Sour soup, Hei Place makes the best! I also recommend the Shrimp Tempura, and the avocado salad

They give you a side of chimichurri and another sauce that gives a vibrant flare to every bite. This is definitely enough for at least 2 people. For those of you that like spice, they do put jalapeño on the side so you can add it to what ever you want. They have hot sauce and other condiments at a separate table that you can help yourself to. There are also take out containers there for your leftovers. I like the way they set the restaurant up, you go to the counter and order your food just like going to a school cafeteria. You grab a table and when you're done you throw your trash away. It's worth the trip! I will definitely be back.

Amidst being fresh and brightly colored, the dish was quite bland overall. I begged for some elevated heat and flavor profiles-- it definitely fell short and was not spicy in the least. And I'm not a fan of a grease soaked platter... maybe it settled while I drove home but I definitely mopped up oil with a napkin/strained. No bueno. *Sidebar: They have a delicious green sauce that was really tasty and quite frankly saved the dish. I opted for this in place of a sweet Chili Glaze sauce that is provided because I hate sweet flavor profiles in all things dinner! Lol MVP: A wonderfully kind and efficient staff... the order was complete, error free, prepared timely and everyone was very friendly. The best item I purchased was the SANGRIA topped with fresh pineapple! Not the food-- it was all about their in-house beverages. Unfortunately, the set up is almost buffet like with add ons (I paid extra for Pico de Gallo... this also elevated the dish. With the sauce I selected and the pico, the dish literally would have been as bland as a cardboard sandwich). Perhaps it's me-- my palette is pretty elevated and I love heat. Peruvian dishes aren't exactly known for bombastic flavors, spice and heat... but the crowd and utter lack of parking got me excited. Will I return? Perhaps... definitely for a different item (perhaps the roasted chicken everyone was eagerly ordering) and it's a must on the sangria option! But $32.90 for a very basic fried rice mixed with lo mein moment + salad (I tipped $3 amidst to go).... Nah. I'd be lying if I said it was worth it. Lovely aesthetic and energy, however. Chef's energy on the food though was a miss.... Season! The! Food! Sir!

They do have a menu - takeout or dine in (few tables but the space is small) and they also have cafeteria style prepared foods that you can peruse. I called in an order for Chicken Mee Ka Tang (Cantonese Noodles), Beef Pho, Cold Cut banh mi, Lort (Cambodian eggrolls) and a Vietnamese coffee for the mister. When we got there I was enticed by the offerings and got a small container of the braised pork and eggs and stuffed bitter melon (don't knock it people, it is an acquired taste, lol). We really enjoyed everything we had but our faves were the banh mi (great flavor and didn't skimp on the meats at all!) and the Mee Ka Tang - it did have a bit more gravy than I'm used to but really great flavors - add a little bit of chili oil or sriracha and chefs kiss! The pork and eggs were a tad bit too sweet and pork was tougher than I'd like other than that, everything was delicious. Service was super quick and food was ready as promised. I walked into a space that is small and moody, the kind of room that feels lived in rather than designed for a particular aesthetic, and it suited the casual neighborhood feel of the surrounding area. The hot stone bibimbap is the dish that comes up most consistently and with the most enthusiasm. I ordered it and the stone bowl arrived sizzling. The rice along the bottom edges got crispy against the heat in a way that changed the texture and flavor of the whole dish as I ate through it. The beef and mushroom tofu versions are both well executed, and the egg on top finished the bowl correctly. The katsu is a solid option for anyone coming in looking for something more straightforward. I tried it and the breading was crispy while the cutlet inside stayed tender, and the sauce ratio was handled well rather than drowning what was underneath. The gyoza, japchae, seafood pancakes, and yaki soba fill out a menu that covers enough ground to satisfy a table with different preferences. Side dishes are served in modest portions, which was the main point of friction for me since I am used to more generous banchan. Food came out at a good pace and arrived hot. For Korean and Japanese comfort food in Providence, Den Den is a reliable and genuinely satisfying stop.

I just really wanted some miso soup and some sushi, but many things looked great on their menu. One little bizarre thing was that it listed a Clam miso soup on the menu, but when I asked about he said they did have a vegetarian miso soup but it wasn't on the menu. He did tell me they were redoing the menu. The miso soup was really good. We ordered a variety of sushi, which was also very tasty. I found it a bit odd the way they did their rainbow roll, which rolled all the fish inside the roll instead of fish layered on top. Also, the crunchy veggies inside the rainbow roll didn't really go with the rest of the fish very well. The Christmas Tree roll was my favorite and was delicious! I have to mention an odd circumstance about parking in their lot. When I came out of the restaurant there was a car blocking us. Apparently, since it's a small lot they tell people you can block cars but you have to be willing to move it once a table is done and wants to go. That's fine, but it was so damn cold outside that I really didn't want to have to go back in an bother people about this. I did anyway, but I just thought the whole thing was weird.

We were sadly in a rush and had to be out by a certain time to catch a show, and our server understood the assignment and got us out on the tight schedule we needed. I'm just sad I had to slurp down my soup so quickly as it was absolutely DELICIOUS! I ordered the Snow Mountain Ramen - the creamy tofu broth is unlike anything I've had and was so so unique and delicious. I thought about it for at least a week straight after eating it and am still dying to go back to get more. I also got the Iced Rose Matcha drink - $10 felt too pricy for this but I wanted a fun drink and a little caffeine kick - and again the flavors were unique and tasty. Both my friend and I happened to see someone we knew here - it's definitely a popular spot! It was packed on a Saturday night but it was still pretty quick for us to get a table for 2. Being a downtown city restaurant, the tables feel a bit cramped and I was a little too close to the table next to me for comfort - claustrophobics beware (honestly the soup is worth it though!!) Parking is pretty easy in the lot, although Holy crap they need to fix the potholes / harsh drop-off where it meets the street, and it still was not fully plowed many weeks after the big snowstorm (it's a shared lot so not a Y Noodle specific issue, but just saying). The only thing that was unpleasant were the bathrooms - I get it was a busy weekend night, but they reeked of a litter box the second you stepped in, the floor was dirty and very wet with unknown substances, and the Dyson hand dryer is at such a weird, too high level on the wall that it sprayed water in my face. Everything else was a dream, can't wait to go back! Hopefully the bathrooms were just a fluke.
