    Sushi combo #2
    Yaritza F.

I loved this combo. I felt the fish was fresh. It's definitely a takeout place but wish they did more with the space, it seems crowded and stuffy. The waits can be extremely long and they don't always answer their phone because they clearly get a lot of business with good reason.

Food was good, like the sauce with the gyoza. Really like the sweet potato roll as well (not pictured) Parking is tricky, small lot, but there is street parking on the side street. Also, although they have tables, and you can eat in there, they put the food into to go containers, so we just took it to go. Which is not a bad thing. Their bathroom is blocked off though, so we didn't ask to use it. Staff is nice, and sushi is made right in front of you.

Grabbed takeout from here. You either call or order in store. No online ordering.. that I could find so let me know if I'm wrong. Crab tempura was solid (good) made with real crab not the kani stuff, I always prefer the real thing so wherever it's offered, I'm going to order it. Not a huge fan of sauces but this went well with the fried crab. The Spicy Lobster didn't give spice in the sense I was thinking of, no hot peppers or sauces or anything. Still enjoyed it, an elevated California roll. The steak hibachi was dry, as you can probs tell in the picture. Definitely wouldn't reorder -- I have been back for both rolls though, they're always fresh and consistently good.

So hard to find a sushi place with $12ish rolls, but this place delivers phenomenal bang for your buck. Inflation who?!

I tried Uncle Sushi for the first time early May 2024 and have already returned for more. The sushi is out of this world. The flavors are so fresh and there's so many different rolls to try. It gives me an excuse to treat myself to more sushi haha! The girl taking orders and helping with check out is so so so nice! I doubt I'll ever have an issue here but if I do, I know she'll help me out! Don't even look at other sushi places. Uncle Sushi is the way to go!!

The service is always friendly and quick ! Very nice people . The food is always soooo tasty ! The sushi always tastes fresh and they have many options and specialty to try but aside from sushi their Thai tea and papaya is my favorite ! Really should give their other food a try if you haven't yet

The sushi here never fails me! Here's why: Pictured are the Suicide, Kayla, and King rolls. If you like an extra kick of hotness, the Suicide roll with jalapeno and sriracha is calling for you. The Kayla roll was good; shredded imitation crab on top, shrimp tempura, and other fillings I cannot recall. Can you blame me? If something's tasty, you'd want to stuff yourself fast! Lastly, my experience with the King roll never changes; it's good, I order it every time, and yes, it's good. Every roll is filling and each bite is generously packed. I can't say that about many sushi spots, but Uncle Sushi is worth every buck! In other words, the rolls are huge for the price. You could share various rolls with friends or eat by yourself in one sitting (like I did for this review). Uncle Sushi has always been one of my favorite spots to dine. Birthday? Celebration? Third-wheeling my sister's date? It always felt like home with the cozy atmosphere. Although it's closed for dining, I'm quite happy they're open for take-out at the moment. My three rolls were made in 20 minutes during lunchtime. Everything tastes fresh, clean, and of course, delicious! Some personal favorites include the steak and cheese roll (fried Heaven) and the Rainbow roll. Besides the sushi, I can assure you the menu's selection is authentic. If you're looking for good khao piak (rice noodle soup) or papaya salad, Uncle Sushi can offer you these yummy dishes. Parking can be difficult to find with the cute shop, but don't let that stop you from a good foodie experience! Also, do it for me, please. I wish I lived closer, otherwise, I'll order from here every week!

Ordered 4 rolls and 3 were excellent! I would have given 5 stars but the 4th roll was incorrect. They gave us an eel roll which none of us liked. We will be back but double check our order before leaving.

Though the meal was incredibly delicious and the ingredients seemed rather fresh, I was a bit disappointed by the small amount of seafood that was on the soup. Perhaps the small size was because it was regular later than large, but I still expected a bit more. Other than that, the service was great and the owners were efficient but equally polite. Will come back for a seat down dinner sometime to try the larger portion. Of note: they only have seafood or beef options, so they don't have a vegetarian or vegan option on the menu!

I had done some research and knew it was a small space so I was praying there would be enough open tables. When we talked in, there were about 3 tables open. It took a bit to get seated since the host/ server was busy getting together online orders and bringing out food to other customers. But after a couple minutes, we were allowed to pick our own table. They have 3 two person tables to the left, on an elevated platform. To the far front of the space, there were two booths which could easily fit 4 people each. To the right there were 3 tables for 4-5 people each. We went with the bigger table, but moved after a couple minutes to another table for a more private setting. For an appetizer, we put in an order of crab rangoons. As my entrée, I ordered the Khao Soi with seafood and my friend ordered the beef salad which comes with sticky rice. The crab rangoons came out after about 10 minutes. They looked crispy, and were wrapped in a cute, round way. The filling wasn't as creamy as I wish it would be, but it did taste a bit healthier than regular Chinese take out. The entress came out after about another 10 minutes. My Khao Soi came out with a big bowl, with some lime and peanuts on the side. I asked for more lime and cilantro on the side. The broth was a very vibrant color, creamy, sweet, a little tangy from the lime, and because of the cilantro had a fresh and clean flavor. I loved the combination of all the flavors, and it reminded me of a curry. The noodles were soft, but not falling apart and there was a good amount of it. There was plenty of seafood including calamari, shrimp, and mussels. The calamari was a little tough but the other items were good. I loved the crispy shallots on top as they provided an additional sweet but savory element. I finished the entire thing. My friend's salad was good. It was simple in that it was salads and herbs with minced meat but it tasted good. The sticky rice came in a ball wrapped in aluminum foil, and then put into their authentic little basket so it was full to pull apart. They do have a dessert menu and we were offered some, but I had no space. It seemed like the server was handling a lot at once so kudos to him and the small but mighty team in the back cooking everything up. I would be interested in trying other items on their menu.

At first glance, you don't see much from Elmwood Ave, but veer to the right and everything opens up on the left, with a parking lot in the back. Ornate statues lead you to the entrance, and once inside you are instantly greeted with bold colors and beautiful art everywhere. I wanted to take the opportunity to try some Cambodian food, so after some quick research, I opted for Beef Lok Lak, which happened to be one of the lunch combos. I chose fried rice and nime chow for my lunch options and settled back to wait for my feast. They bring you a complementary pot of hot tea, which I enjoyed. I believe it was a straightforward unsweetened black tea. Perfect for me. Before long the rangoons arrived. I literally said "wow" when the runner set my plate down. Beautiful golden brown, small bubbles visible all over the outside, promising crispy goodness. And it delivered. What I didn't expect what the slight chewiness to the wrapper that enhanced the experience. The filling was super creamy and delicious, but I prefer my rangoons with scallions as well. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying every bite. Then my lunch came. The beef was perfectly cooked, the dressing tangy and peppery. The nime chow was herby and super fresh as it should be. And the rice had this extra depth of flavor that made me think of tomato paste? A lovely addition the dish. I had a great meal here and the rangoons are definitely worth having! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!!

For the longest, I thought Apsara on Hope St and this Apsara were the same owners, different locations but I was fooled. They are different, so I came on a Saturday evening with my friend to give this one a try. They have a parking lot but it is small. However, there is lots of street parking around. When we walked in, every table was full and we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Since we had time to look at the menu while we waited, we ordered right away: BBQ beef, stir fried thin egg noddle with seafood, and thai garlic chicken wings. While waiting for the food, I had ample time to take in my surroundings, including all the elegant décor around the restaurant including a lot of red and gold colors. Our food came out all together after about 20-30 minutes. The portion sizes were excellent, and all the food was still hot. The beef was cooked perfectly (for me) and cut into manageable strips. It was tender, a hint of sweet, and savory. It came with some sweet pickled shaved radish, cabbage, and carrots with cucumber. This with the meat created a contrast in texture and amplified the sweetness. There was also a clear sauce and that was also really.good. The fried noodles were delicious. They were thin so it seemed like the flavor penetrated inside the noodle. It had a good amount of seafood including big chunks of imitation crab meat, shrimp, and something else I was unfamiliar with. It also had mustard leaves; they weren't bitter, they just had a neutral green leaf flavor (maybe spinach but stronger). The chicken wing order came with about 8 wings, sitting on a bed of cabbage and topped with jalapeno and chili peppers. They were still very hot and crispy, and had a savory and a subtle umelike flavor. I wish the garlic flavor were stronger. I am excited to come back again and try something new on the menu.

It was a first for my friend and I; we were in the mood for something yummy, but that wouldn't feel too heavy. It was very close to us, so in minutes, we were in their parking lot. We walked in and noticed its a big space. They have a lot of tables, a bar area, but also booths along the wall. Since there wasn't anyone else there, we look a big booth. One downside is that they don't have physical menus for the food, it's a QR code. To me, it can be overwhelming to scroll through so many options and remember them along the way. We finally settled on shrimp nime chow, pork belly drunken noodles, and Thai style chicken wings. Our waitress was very helpful in giving us suggestions and explaining some of the foods. I am very glad the food came out little by little as it allowed us to eat everything while it was fresh and hot. The wings came out first and they looked magnificent. They were glowing, crispy, and topped with goodness (crispy garlic, sautéed jalapeño peppers and onions). The jalapeño did not make the wings spicy. They did have a tiny hint of spice, but the sweet and savory flavors definitely overshadowed it. I drizzled some of the oil on the plate of the wings back onto the wings, but also on some of the other food we ordered since it was that good. The order came with about 4 whole wings, and 4 drum stick parts of the wing which definitely justified the price. We ate about half of them and took the rest with us. Next, was the nime chow. I noticed they these were made with a little less love since the ingredients inside were not equally dispersed. However, the flavor was good. I wish it had more Thai basil. Lastly, the drunken noodles came out. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, and it came with a good amount of fried pork belly. It was my first time have pork belly as a protein for drunken noodles but it worked really well. The dish was very flavorful, the noodles were cooked perfectly and well coated with flavor. Since we were the only customers there, we received all the attention. We also noticed they had a pretty good playlist going. For everything we ordered, it came out to about $50 which wasn't bad. I will definitely be coming back to try other menu items.

Heard about this via the Elite grapevine and boy oh boy is this a good one!!! I enjoy traveling…read morethe world of flavor and it had been a bit since I had my Thai buds quenched. Heng Thai has great service and an amazing variety to choose from. Noodles, curries, sushi, soups and plenty of drinks they will not disappoint! I enjoyed a winter cocktail that packed a punch! Snacked on some garlic green beans which were fresh and cooked to perfection, very flavorful. I had the salmon curry which I could not get enough of! Amazing combination of flavors with fresh veggies and salmon prepared well! This is a smaller place that carries a quiet vibe to enjoy by yourself or with a group. Come satisfy your Thai cravings at Heng Thai! I will be back for more!!

Our server, Jaokhun, was the most cheerful and bouncy and efficient person we have ever had! We ordered a large Mai Thai bowl to share - more than we would normally do. For food we had their signature roasted chicken dish with sticky rice and garlic string beans, which was excellent. Then we added another crispy chicken dish- overkill and took most of it home. It came to $60, to which we added a generous tip. We like the vibe here and resolved to return with a shorter absence.
