Took my little brother here since he was in town for flight training and it's been sitting in my Google 'food' list to try for quite a while. We went on Mother's Day (totally forgot it was that day), but were able to call and get a table inside for two. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and attentive, so expect good service. We decided to get two dishes and share with each other, so I ordered the Rahm Schnitzel and he ordered the Bratwurst Platter, and our side choices were spätzle und kroketten with a salad and goulash for soup. I was driving, so my brother ordered a pint of pilsner, which of course I had to take a sip for quality control, and it passed the test lol. The server mentioned they were having issues with some of their alcohol equipment that day, so alcohol options were very limited. The food came out quite quickly, or I think it did, because my brother and I were busy chatting and catching up. Food was hot, and everything tasted delicious and well-seasoned. I can't say that I had a favorite dish because it was all delicious, but I did really like the Rahm schnitzel with the kroketten!! Helga's has always been my go to for good German food but I hadn't been there in awhile. We were nearby and decided to stop for lunch. The decor and ambiance hasn't changed and the staff was friendly and efficient. All the menu staples are still available but it seems the kitchen now goes heavy on the garlic - in everything. The entrées used to include a salad (with the best honey mustard dressing ever) but now that's considered one of the 2 sides you get with the meal. We also used to get a basket of rye bread but didn't today. Our server, Kat, was attentive and we never had to wait for anything. The schnitzel portions are large and I'll be finishing mine tomorrow. Helga's is my go-to restaurant for German food. I've been a patron from when they had their restaurant in Hoffman Heights in Aurora. I love the atmosphere of their current location South of Aurora Mall and their mini deli, beer garden. Their lunch portion is the perfect amount. Dinner portions are larger. I had lunch on Friday and had one of my favorites, Rouladen with red cabbage and fried spatzle. Service was excellent as always. I've never used their bathrooms before until this visit. Not sure if they are always like this, but the hallway to the bathrooms and in the bathroom smell bad. Kind of tarnished the greatness of the meal & service. Also I miss the old deli size. They have downsized their deli meats and other candy goodies. I suspect it was for more demand for the beer garden. Overall I'll be back as always to get my yummy authentic German food fix! read more

We stopped into this German restaurant the decor and little shop they have were authentic. Our waitress Rachel was very sweet and friendly she did an amazing job. Thank you for making our visit a great experience. We both ordered the Ruben sandwich and goulash soup . The sandwich was good only complaint would just to much sauce took away from the flavor of the meat but the bread was toasted nicely,the soup was good and hearty. Not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews! My partner and I came on a Thursday night and the service and food were great! We ordered potato pancakes for appetizers, Reuben Bratwurst Dinner with mushrooms and spatzle as sides, and then they were also doing free soup or salad that night so we had the beef and barley soup. We also had two crisp refreshing beers! Everything was so so delicious and better than expected. It wasn't very busy on a Thursday night but it looks like they have live music some Fridays and Saturdays so we'll be back! Also, did I mention how crisp their beer was?! Stopped in for an 'authentic' German dinner on Thursday 30 July. We were promptly seated, and provided menus, etc. But food delivery to our table was delayed not once by twice. When it finally arrived, the food quality was very poor. The chicken schnitzel was thin, overcooked, and difficult to even cut with a knife. The spatzel appeared to have been reheated on a cook top (you could see that it had been skillet cooked instead of in water) and was tough, not soft to eat like it should be. Very poor quality this night. We'll think twice about driving out for this again. read more

Have been to Helga's a few times throughout the years. The do know how to do German food well. Made a reservation on Father's Day just in case it was busy, and while our party could have been seated upon arrival, there were a fair amount of families, so reservations are always a good thing. They do schnitzel, brats, and beer and they do very large portions as well. Service is always great and attentive. We started with a pretzel and beer cheese that was easily shareable among the party. I ordered a pilsner lager as well which came in a fun HB (iykyk) stein. I shared the Beer Brat plate with my dad. It came with two brats(your choice of brat), two sides (there are lots and lots) - we both chose potato salad, and choice of a soup or salad. I went with the cucumber, onion and beets salad to start. The soup was corn chowder and I heard it was very good from those who had it. The salad was good, but came out as more of a cold soup with the "broth" being vinegar and the beet ratio was a bit much for me. The Beer Brat was excellent as was the potato salad. The mustard sauce was perfection. For dessert, we ordered one slice of Oma's 4-layer chocolate cake. It was massive, even for 5 people, but delicious with whipped cream and a scoop of ice cream. Helga's is the only place I know in the metro area that offers German food to this extent. Complete with a deli, a bier garden, and fun German decor throughout. They even have an accordian player from time to time. If you haven't been, now is the time. They have happy hours during the week and live music on Fridays. read more

One star removed for relatively slow and inefficient service - for example, we never got the side of ketchup that we asked for and we ended up sharing a knife because neither of the two employees we asked got around to bringing us a second table setting. The food was everything but German, We went there yesterday the Goulash had miniature corn and pea pods in it. The Schnitzel was dry. I got so sick from the whole thing (possible food poisoning) so my day is horrible today fell so weak. The Fleischsalat in the deli was also not fresh according to the employee behind the deli counter, and barely had any deli meat products, they also looked old. Terrible food and high prices. I went here for dinner on a sunday and the whole experience was terrible and the food was not worth what they charged. We walked in and there was no one in the front at all to greet us. Everyone was just hanging out in the back and it took a few minutes for them to come out to seat us. The waitress was nice enough but didn't really act like a waitress and didn't ask to refill my family's drinks until we were leaving and finished with our food. The food was absolutely terrible. They charge $25 for chicken/pork schnitzel that is drenched in sauce that's super salty. The breading also isn't very good. I got these fried potato dumplings that were kind of sweet and the texture of extremely over whipped potatoes (think glue like texture). The Spätzle was embarrasing and stale. The sides were almost inedible. The goulash was good though! Maybe just eat a pretzel and get some german beer when you come here. Don't waste your money on the main menu read more

Back in the day, Helga's (when it was off of E 6th Ave) was great!! the last i came (in the current location) it really left something to be desired. To be fair, it was an off time of day, squarely between lunch and dinner - and they were not at all busy. The service was good, but the place itself looks like it hasn't been cleaned since they moved (which was a while ago). The food we ordered was mediocre at best. Not the trip (mentally, anyway) back to Germany that I was counting on. Perhaps this was just an off day for them, but it disappointed me enough, that i cannot say i would ever return. I had never been to Helga's even though it's been in Denver since 1989. Went for an early Father's Day dinner. German decor such as cuckoo clocks, crests, and taxidermy adorn the walls. Our server was friendly and timed our meal well, except when we asked for small plates to share their mountain of a dessert--Oma's 4-layer chocolate cake. Our request confused our server as I guess most people dig into the chocolatey peak. Before our dessert adventure, we were treated to one of Helga's soft pretzels that paired well with hand-crafted mustard and beer cheese. I decided to go for the simpler veal schnitzel served with a side of brown sauce and two sides of my choice. I selected the spätzle and stewed mushrooms. The plate could easily be shared, so I had an entire meal as leftovers. It also came with a choice of soup or salad--the corn chowder was excellent. Go hungry or be prepared to share. German food! Helga's is always a solid choice. We were here for the start of a date night. Could not have been a better start. Helga's is located adjacent to the mall so there is plenty of parking to be had. The staff is welcoming and provides recommendations. Whenever we come here I am reminded of my grandparents. My grandmother used to make many of the dishes they serve. I started with the cucumber and beet salads. Delicious. And being the dark beer girl that I am, I needed a Warsteiner Dunkel to go with. I had the Rouladen which was thinly sliced seasoned beef, wrapped around onions, bacon, and a pickle with a brown braising sauce. In the menu they recommend having the red cabbage and spaetzle with it. How could I go wrong? The Rouladen was such a fun mixture of flavors and of course the sides were solid! The red cabbage reminded me of my grandmother's. My husband started with their chicken soup and a Warsteiner Pilsner. He enjoyed the bratwurst dinner with spaetzle and sauerkraut. The mustard that came with it was so tasty. The brats had been charbroiled for that extra flavor. When I have the opportunity to come to Helga's, I'm there. read more

He kept saying "take me to your liter". Anyway he loved his Rueben and fries, and I enjoyed my rouladen; rolled beef in a brown sauce, it was filling and tasty. After some initial confusion Helga's management was able to host my mom's 80th birthday! My mom grew up in Germany and the environment helped her feel a bit like she was home! Our waitstaff was amazing! Austin was friendly and incredibly attentive to every detail! He was knowledgeable about the menu and all the beers! He was assisted by Jay, who is fluent in German and spoke with my mom, and they had a whole conversation, including his wishing her happy birthday!! They made sure that everything was perfect for us. Very cool place with good food and great beer. Vibes were a little weird, but I would still go back. I had the Rahm Schnitzel and my wife had the Stroganoff. Both were very good. There was a guy sitting by the door playing the accordion, 2 monks walked in, there was a really drunk guy (maybe the owner?) who was watching the accordion player and felt like talking. I really think they are reheating the food with a microwave. Potato salad and cabbage extremely sour. Scnitzel was average at best. This is not good German food. The Chef is not doing it justice. Husband and I tried this place during the week for dinner. Atmosphere inside is so fun and adorable! We were seated right away and the waiter serving all of the tables was excellent. We shared a platter with pork and chicken schnitzel, bratwurst, spaetzle and a potato fritter thing. This was a great choice bc we got to try a little bit of everything! Helga's has the German ambiance while also serving up food that is fairly descent. I really like the look of the restaurant and the server was very helpful. We got the pretzel which was a descent enough pretzel with a descent enough cheese sauce, although it was a bit mild flavor wise for my taste. I got the jagerschnitzel with some sauerkraut and spatzle. Everything was good but nothing to blow you away, mostly just tasted like regular fried food and regular kraut. The spatzle was good especially with the jagerschnitzel sauce which makes me wish I had more of it on my dish. If you're looking for German food in the area Helgas is the place to go. read more

Ok, I've been going to Helga's regularly for a long time. They're pretty much a staple in one of my and my wife's routines, so we can usually tell when things have changed there be it ownership or just a roll-over in staff. It seems that both may have happened relatively recently. I am sad to say that with a second questionable visit with burned potato pancakes, a surprising amount of salt in most of the meal, and slow service (even with 2 waitresses and a host/busser in just the bar area), we're now looking for a different place to get our German fix. We don't want to, but the prices aren't matching the quality or service proffered any longer. I hope this review serves to help Helga's make some much needed adjustments to get back to the excellence Oma was always known for. Oh, and please add schweinshaxe to the menu and liver dumplings back to the deli, if you could. We look forward to visiting there again (if some changes are made) sometime down the road. read more

I had never bene to Helga's and my husbands family go fairly often so we are decided to go to lunch and get together for some yummy German food. We arrived and they were fairly busy so we had to wait for a bit for a table. No big deal. When we were seated our server was quick to take our drink and food orders. She was even helpful with some recommendations. I ordered the bier bratwurst plate with sauerkraut and the brussels which were the veggie of the day. Our food arrived quickly and hot. Once we had our food and drinks we literally never saw the server again. We finished our meals. the dining room emptied out and we were the only table still there. We finally had to go find someone so that we could pay. Then we are went to the gift shop to get some goodies to take home and no one was working the counter there either. We waited and waited and again finally had to go find someone so we could be rung out for our items. Not sure what happened with the service but the food was incredible! read more

Servers were friendly, that's the only good thing. I took two guys from Germany here as they were feeling home sick. Decor is cheaply done. Band was playing songs in German that made no sense to the two Germans, the only song they had heard in Germany before was Sweet Caroline sung in English. The food was bad, just as a chef it was categorically bad. The schnitzel was dry, mealy, and dense. I believe it was fried a long time ago put in a freezer and then microwaved to order. I have had frozen dinners that were better. One of the sides was a fried potato dumpling it was worse than the schnitzel. We told the server we didn't eat pork and one of the Germans ordered sauerkraut as a side and it had pork in it. The Germans said nothing was right about the food. Some of it tasted good but wasn't German. The desserts were the worst. The strudel was poorly seasoned, the inside was over cooked and the pastry was over baked. The black Forrest tart was texture less and only tasted of Hershey syrup. None of the songs the band sang in German made any sense to the Germans they had never heard them before. read more

After 7 years of patronizing Helga's, they are still a 5 in my book, and the best thing?? They have expanded with a outside patio! Took guests from out of town yesterday and they loved it just as much as my husband and I. Their menu options are plentiful with appetizers, entrees's, daily specials, desserts and drinks. This is the BEST German restaurant I've ever been to, and if you look at my reviews, I've been to a lot. The food is amazing. Cooked to perfection and with fresh ingredients. Authentic German menu with delicious options. I was so obsessed with the delicious sides, I couldn't believe that the main course was just as good. The atmosphere was perfect. Very German. The deli has some rare and authentic German goodies. The staff were friendly and eager to please. The chef/owner was so kind to give me his red cabbage recipe when I told him that mine was no good compared to his. I thought mine was the best before I tried his. Wonderful German beer selection.
