What a great little gem! We were visiting from out of town and were staying nearby. We were delighted to find this Turkish restaurant! We were there for breakfast. If you haven't tried a Turkish breakfast it's time you did! My husband and I shared the Mom's breakfast which had so much food that we could barely eat it all. It included so many different delicious things! There was an omelette thing with some thin sausage, a noodle and egg dish with crispy filo on top, part of a baguette (with Nutella, cherry jam, honey & butter) and a bagel-like pastry with sesame seeds on the outside, hard boiled eggs, sliced cucumbers, grape tomatoes, 2 kinds of cheese, 2 kinds of olives...Everything was so good I want to go to Turkey even more now! I also tried their Turkish tea that was black tea with bergamot. But it wasn't at all like earl gray. My husband had to get his usual mocha and said it was nice & not too sweet. I liked the tea with sugar cubes I added at the table. It's casual order from the counter style. The staff member was very condescending and rude when I asked for milk for my coffee. She said it was not the traditional way to consume it. So I decided to have it black with sugar. When I received the coffee, I can smell that it was not a fresh batch by its burnt aroma. She brewed fresh coffee for the next set of customers who entered shortly after. I found this quite discriminatory and disappointing. This business lost a potential frequent customer. Pasties were better than the coffee itself. What a shame to expect good coffee to be brewed worse than McDonald's. read more

Wanda is a gem with the warmest welcome she definitely is one of the reasons I will be one of the reasons I will keep coming back the gentleman Esol I believe is his name has such a warm smile and they deliver the most delicious food. Istanbul has been on my list for SO long and I was so excited to finally check it out when I was in the area! I was immediately greeted by an incredibly friendly gentleman behind the counter who offered me so many samples. Everything I tried was tasty! I ended up going with the baklava, chocolate baklava, kadayif, and spinach cheese borek, totaling just over $14 pre-tip. We shared a Ground Beef Borek, Doner wrap, iced coffee, and baklava. I really couldn't pick a fav because they were all hitting all the right notes! Just a small walk from the University of Denver, this cute cafe was perfect for brunch or coffee. The workers behind the counter were so welcoming, told us all about their offerings of food, and even allowed us to try some of the pastries. They were so nice, and helped our decisions on choosing the food! The place was super nice and quaint, it would be a great place to study for DU students. They had a few tables which were clean and very nice. They also had Turkish decorations throughout the place. The pastries we got were AMAZING! Incredible flavor! We got 2 different flavors of baklava, both of which were great. We also got one savory pastry and one Nutella pastry, which were both good as well. They have amazing baklava! They have so many types of baklava, it would be easy to get lost in what you want. That is where the amazing service kicks in. I did not know what I wanted and the kind lady behind the counter gave me a sample of each kind. I honestly thought there were only two kinds of baklava. Well there are many more. A relative and I planed to come here for lunch so we came as we had planned. Now I have been to a second location and that location had only toast, tea and, baklava but this was entirely different. They had toast sure but they now have a lot more authentic Turkish food and a great dessert selection. For drinks I had Aryan (central Asian yogurt drink). For actual food I ate mant (Turkish dumplings from Central Asia with a tangy sauce). Last but definitely not least, I ate 3 pieces of great Turkish baklava. I also had sobiet which is a variation of baklava. I had a great time here. The service is top notch. I loved the atmosphere and food but I can only give this place 4 stars because 5 minutes later, I began feeling weird from the food. I found out that something at the restaurant disagreed with me but regardless I loved this place and I think I might give it a second chance. read more

Istanbul Cafe is a new and welcome addition to the DU neighborhood. Since I saw the signs hanging that said coming soon I was excited. I walked in on opening day and I was presented with an amazing friendly staff and my nose filled up with amazing smells of different spices and fresh brewed coffee. The staff a man from Macedonia and a women from Turkey always have a big smile on there faces and love to talk. Also when the owner is in he will talk you up a storm which I always like in a small establishment. The food I have to say is pretty outstanding, they are only open for breakfast and lunch be warned. Everything I've eaten from breakfast plates to donar to sweets is made with love and tastes like it. Everything is fresh and well worth the price. I will be going back often. SO GOOD!! My daughter and I stopped by this afternoon, we have had this place on our must-try list for several weeks. We visited the Evans location in the afternoon and the lovely woman behind the counter asked if we needed some guidance and were looking for sweet or savory? We wanted both and she gave us samples of everything we showed interested in. OMG, the savory meals were sensational! May I recommend the borek, especially the ground beef one, there are several flavors of borek: beef, cheese and potato are in beautiful phyllo stuffed swirls. Crispy and flavorful! And the su borek- is a different form, more like a luscious lasagna, minus the red sauce and adding layers of crispy phyllo. And holy goodness with the sweets!! Many flavors and variations on baklava, and the stuffed pouches with Nutella (chef's kiss)! The double pistachio baklava is nummy and the walnut one also amazing. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally got the chance to stop in today. They have such a great selection of Turkish goods. I will be back to try the savory pastries. The baklava is some of the best I've had in Denver. Reminds me of the baklava my college roommate would bring back on his way back from Saudi Arabia. I've been waiting for this place to open since they posted their "coming soon" signs, about a month ago and I'm very pleased to report its authenticity ambiance, and food/drinks are 5-star café quality. I live just upstate and could not be more excited about a quality and authentic Turkish café opening so close to DU. They've only been open for 2 days now but their Turkish coffee is an absolute dream! I take mine black and have found it to be extraordinarily smooth! The beans are roasted to perfection meaning you'll get all the aromas of the coffee, all the caffeine of an espresso, but NONE of the bitterness! (And I quite like a bit of the fine grounds for texture... if you've never had Turkish coffee be sure to look up how it's made so you're not surprised when you get fine grounds in your last sips) Their food hits the spot and is affordable at the same time.
