It's funny. People don't realize that even in a city like New York with a gazillion barbers and hair salons how difficult it is to find someone who does it the right way or decently. Even for someone like me with a very simple cut, it's been impossible. Now that we moved into Hell's Kitchen it's been one mediocre snip snip after another. That is until now. Having lost the guy I had settled with (he was okay) who closed his Manhattan shop a few months ago, and suffering two less than joy-filled cuts at a place half a block from me, I hopped on my scooter in search of a new place. That's when I came across HKB and Patty, my new superstar! I had actually intended to go to the place across the street (only because I spotted them first). But it looked dirty and less than appealing. So I decided to randomly walk into HKB, which immediately grabbed my attention by its cleanliness, warm and overly cheerful welcoming from the dude cutting hair at the first chair, who I assume is the owner. Patty couldn't have been any nicer or friendlier. She had a great personality, listened to exactly what I wanted and then gave me probably one of the best haircuts I've had in years. Teaching my son self love in Hell's Kitchen, is a bit over priced , kelvin gave my son a great haircut and my son LOVED IT, this is a great barbershop, very punctual with their appointments and understanding, they are good with kids and always feels good to see my son walk out feeling good about his haircut. My husband and my son are customers for over 3 years now. My only concern is/ was the lack of communication between the barber and the customer, as the price for the haircut was completely different then they are promoting. The price for my sons haircut was suppose to be $25 or 27$ for a kid, and guys, I posted a before and after, that shows how long his hair was, which I didn't even know length had anything to do with cuts for boys... I certainly DONT mind paying the price if I knew exactly what I am paying for but was blind sided, the lack of communication from the barber was the only downer, he told me a different price once he finished the cut, I honestly think that this is bad for the business to pull that move but, for each it's own.... I was charged $40 plus tip of 10$, total of 50$ for a 9 year old kid haircut when the board price says $25... thank god the owner knows my son and the tip was paid later by my husband. I was a bit disappointed about this price issue but Aside from that the barbers are good at there job, this is not the first time this barber has done this. hopefully this don't happens again because this will really define a man's character and make him look as taking advantage of a situation... read more

So as a man with a full beard and full head of hair, a barber experience is usually that an experience. Where u go to relax and come out feeling clean and refreshed. After 10 minutes of me in chair and I feel her taking off my apron I knew I made a mistake, not a shape up, not a straight razor brought out, not even any shaving cream used, she did use a hot towel to just clean the back of my head... so unfortunately that was not the case, I showed a picture and got nothing what the picture looked like, I paid 30$+tip . Steve, one of your barbers, Kelvin, completely messed up my hair. I told him to taper the back of my hair, and he did not. I said at least 5 times for him to only take an inch off the top. He left me an inch of hair on top of my head. I told him at least 3 times I styled my hair up, and he cut me bangs before finally putting gel in my hair that's now an inch long. I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking he knew what he was doing. In reality he wasn't listening to a thing I said. I've never had a haircut this bad. I don't want anyone I know to have to ever have this happen to them. Please get back to me if there's some sort of recourse for this. I've included photos. read more

Disappointed in this place... I'm a long-term Hell's Kitchen local and live around the corner, so I used to come here for years until it went downhill, and today was my last straw. The barber didn't listen to my request and instead just cut me on autopilot. I asked him not to take too much off and it got to the point that I had ask him to stop cutting as he kept chopping away. HK Barbers have raised its prices to match the rest of the neighborhood and city, which is understandable with inflation and economic conditions, but the quality is below everywhere else in HK. I think they've lost sight of their clientele, the machismo and bravado of the place doesn't reflect NYC's gay district, and they're just trying to turn around a quick buck without thinking how they could run a more successful business by embracing and listening to their loyal customers. read more

Third time there in 6 months. The first two times had a good haircut, was reasonably priced, in a bit of a weird location. This time a completely different story! The barber did not have a mascon and first refused to put one on; I said I'm leaving, so he finally put it on on his chin, eventually moving it over his mouth but didn't cover the nose. He then proceeded to tell me the mask mandate was over! I told him that's fine; if you don't want to wear the mask properly, I will leave. He then proceeded to chop my hair. The top looks like somebody used a snippy's scissor on it. I went to pay, and the price almost was double what I spent a couple of months ago. I exclaimed that the price really went up, and he said no, that's the price. So basically, I got a haircut I don't have much hair, by the way, that was $47 plus a three dollar tip 50 bucks that were worth maybe $15. I would definitely stay away from this place. I got a haircut at this business today, and shortly after I was seated, a young kid was seated next to me. He was obviously scared, and hollered at the top of his lungs throughout his haircut, despite his Dad's best efforts to comfort him. In response to this, an employee cranked up the music volume to an absolutely deafening level, in an obvious effort to drown out a scare child's cries. The music was uncomfortably, even obnoxiously loud, and was obviously bothering both patrons and employees. A barber at the front of the shop, possibly the same one who cranked up the music, proceeded to taunt both the kid and the barber who was cutting his hair. The other employees were embarrassed and apologetic about the situation-- I assume, but do not know, that the culprit was the owner. I can't possibly imagine anyone else would engage in such brazen, nasty , abusive behavior. The haircut I got was great. It's unfortunate because I won't return. It's rare to witness cruel, abusive, absolutely despicable behavior by a service employee. It's absolutely shocking to witness it directed at a child. I attempted to reach out directly to the business, but their website has a fake email address which bounced back my note. read more

Terrible!!!! Waste of Money!!! Wish I could give Zero stars. I walked in here for a low drop fade, the owner gave me someone that he knew wasn't a professional Barber or even close to the skills of a professional Barber because I caught him watching the guy cutting my hair with a concerned look on his face and as he was leaving he asked me if it was okay. I told him we'll see. Well the Owner quickly left. He didn't stick around. The Barber didn't use a clean straight blade, I saw him go around using a new one. He didn't listen to what I asked, even though he kept telling he knew what I was politely asking of him. The way he was cutting and holding the clippers I knew he was NOT GOOD AT ALL. Dave is the absolute best barber in the area. I made the mistake of trying another shop closer to my apartment, turned out to be a complete chop job. Dave is fast, efficient, and precise. I was in Manhattan for work, and I hadn't had time to get a haircut before getting on a plane. I chose to go to the gym instead. Oh, don't look at me like that! We all have different priorities. The place is unpretentious and reasonably priced, but the haircut is administered carefully with the stylist constantly checking in with you. It's like having friends. Everyone complimented that haircut both on Insta and in life. The only minor quibble I had was that this turned out to be a cash-only joint. It's unclear if that was just for that day, or...? But, it's not the biggest deal in the world. I find ATMs obnoxious, but that's on me, isn't it? :-) No: go here. Once I heard NYC was entering Phase 2 of re-opening as we continue digging out from Covid-19, I decided to rush down to see Steve for a cut. Having cut my hair twice throughout the recent stay-at-home orders left me craving some professional care to fix all my unevenness. Given the circumstances, the shop went a long way towards ensuring they are taking the proper precautions: temperature checks, plastic dividers between each barber's station, disposable capes, masks of course, and wipe downs of the barber's chair once a patron has finished with services.
