I have been meaning to try this neighborhood Greek bakery for a long time, so I finally popped by one morning to do a little sampling. I have to say - everything was Good and I'm really glad I finally went. Off the top of my head, I remember ordering the chocolate baklava, kourebiedes, spinach pie, and the custard pie. I maybe blasphemously have to say I don't always love baklava (the best ones I've had were in Greece lol), but the chocolate baklava was one of the best baklava I've had / it's really up there. My absolute favorites were the spinach pie (crowd favorite among the group of 3 of us that shared the pastries) and the kourebiedes. I did not expect to like this almond cookie as much as I did, but so good. Those 2 things are what I would get again next time if I didn't have a big group to share with. Yum. Also it's very obviously a family-owned spot, which makes the fact that they have PAINTED holiday windows across the various seasons even more impressive. I found myself walking by around Thanksgiving and was sooo impressed by the turkeys and the various painted things. Absolutely recommend making a trip to this place if you like pastries and joy.

Wowza! My first time trying Greek cookies and I'm blown away! Everything is soooo good! Specially the almond flavor cookies and the tea cookies for me! The butter one with white sugar powder is also amazing! I got a dozen today and I feel like I have to go back to get more tomorrow!!! The texture of the almond cookies is just crazy. Highly recommended! Their spinach pastry is also really good!

What an amazing bakery! Such a hidden gem in Chicago! Greek family owned since 1970's...From the moment I walked in I was greeted by an amazing lady behind the counter. Very friendly and was very patient to explain what everything was in the display. She even gave us samples of some of the items. They were absolutely delicious! Small store front but full of amazing baked good that will keep you coming back for more. There is plenty of street parking. I was able to pull up right in the front. I do recommend heating up the spinach pies when you get home. I bought the spinach pie, custard pie, vegan cookies, and honey cookies. The vegan cookies were absolutely delicious! Not too sweet and pairs great with tea and coffee! 100% recommend!

Family owned, pastries are selling lot hotcakes so everything is fresh, right on the corner so you can chill with a pastry and coffee and look outside the window. I would stick with the best sellers. I usually eat here first before going to Monti's ( which is next door) or vice versa. Sometimes I eat dessert before my meal. Efcharisto Hellas!! That was my brief brainstorming of data points to help me structure this review. But to reflect back and take it slow, I love the owner, she's so very kind. Remember the folks who made it their livelihood to start the business. The second generation would help build the business. The third generation, well, I think they're driving a Tesla and probably not thinking of making Spanikoptika for the rest of their lives. So savor these old schools places and business owners because once they're gone, they gone. Oh the food, that's right, let's talk about that. Everyone loves baklava but they have a dipped in chocolate version, can you believe that!? Also, their custard pastry is so creamy and it has a nice crunchy exterior. Finally, you've gotta try those spinach pies, so cheesy and full of spinach. Once again. with a firm outer crust. How do you say thank you in Greek??

The highlight of this place was the man (who I assume was the owner) working today! He was so lovely and kind! When we walked in he immediately greeted us and asked what he could get us. We ordered two spinach pies, an almond cookie and a chocolate baklava. The spinach pies were very good and I LOVED the almond cookie! The cookie was soft and had an amazing flavor! Before we left the shop my sister ordered two coffees and the man gave us two free cookies to dip in our coffee. Customer service at its finest! Show this place some love!

Get the almond cookie. We heard this was the best almond cookie and they were so right. It has such a rich almond taste, a creamy buttery center, and the most homey feel to it. Shout out to the lady at the counter who gave us a free one too. I could eat this forever. 10/10!

Awesome mom and pop Greek bakery. The owners are very nice, and this stuff is really homemade. Highly recommend. I must have come in on an off day the first time. I tried the walnut cake, almond cake, and an extra honey cinnamon cookie they gave me. Both cakes were kinda soggy and wet. Flavor was good. But the cookie was great. I'm glad I came back because then I tried the baklava, bougatsa (custard pie), spinach pie, and rum ball. All of those are incredible. I will dream of the custard pie. Also, there's a $10 credit card minimum.

The honey cookies are addictive and one of the best cookies I've ever had. Spinach pie was great. The male owner is very jolly.

That was a show & highlight every time. I believe now they torch in kitchen and bring to your table. I miss that experience, perhaps a thing of the past. We started with two frappe because there is no other way, and decided to order a bunch of the appetizers for a little bit of a lunch mezze. Delicious! We got the: -trio of dips. The taramasalata was my favorite. -a horiatiki salad, basically a greek salad with no lettuce. -octopus and the kolokithia (zucchini chips) A perfect lunch. We left full but not weighed down like so many of our other meals that week, and had left overs to nosh on that night. Walking to the location, my friend and I discussed the various dishes we would like to try. In hindsight, I'm grateful for the walk because it helped make room for the dishes we would try. When we entered, we immediately were seated and greeted by Omar. His knowledge of the menu helped us focus on our dishes. We ended up ordering: squid ink chitarra, agnolotti, salt- roasted beets, pork belly, and gelato. Each dish was better than the next. The brown butter and red wine jus used for the agnolotti was addictive and the squid ink was delectable. Who knew salt- roasted beets could taste out of this world? Not me. We ended with a glass of limoncello and champagne to accompany our vanilla gelato. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

It was divine. It also was quite filling and we prob didn't need a whole fish after, but I was not mad about the fish bc the fish was incredible as well. We got the wild lavraki, which was explained to us as the cousin of branzino. It was deboned for us at our table and he sprinkled flaky salt, squeezed lemon, and added some delicious flavored oils on top. Prob the freshest fish I've had in the city. We also had a couple cocktails, I had a spritz that was lovely. The total bill was a bit shocking, cant lie, but I also believe it was worth it for the quality of service and food that we received. They brought out a complimentary appetizer which was so simple but unbelievable delicious. Cherry tomatoes on the vine with olive oil and salt with some seasoning. I would eat this everyday if I could. The cherry tomatoes was so sweet with the perfect crunch. Definitely worth having. Will definitely be coming back to try other dishes on the menu. They also have valet for $15 for 3hrs, I believe.

The staff was warm and attentive throughout the meal and brought out delicious complimentary french bread. It's pretty cool that although the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, staff from the adjacent bar came around every so often and took orders. For appetizers, we started with the feta and olive appetizers. They were good, but I'd probably order something a little more unique next time. I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken. For the price, this place is a steal- you really can't beat the quantity and quality of food that you get. Overall, a great experience- I definitely recommend making a stop if you're in the area!
