TLDR: disorganized, they need a new manager or she needs some customer service training lmao I never leave reviews but I'm gonna start by saying I love the food from here and any interaction I had with the owners prior to the new location opening has been stellar. That being said, the experience I had tonight was bad enough that I probably won't return. I put in a take out order at 6:30 and it said it would be ready for pick up at 7:20, so I get there around 7:25 and spoke to a young man about my order and he came back and asked what I had ordered so I told him then that was that. I sat there and waited for about 20 min, granted they were busy and I could tell they were short-staffed. I've worked in a restaurant before so I know how it can be, so I was patient. 10 more mins go by and no one has updated me so I asked the young man again how much longer and he comes back and says they had an issue with their to-go system which is fine but I had already been there for 30 min with no update. I asked to speak with a manger which I literally never do lol So the manager comes up to me doesn't greet me just says "what's your name" so I tell her and she walks away and never comes back. So then a host comes up to me (very sweet) and asks again what I ordered so I tell her and then she leaves and I'm waiting for another 10 min. It's almost 8 at this point with no time update on my order so I talk to the host again and ask her how much longer and she tells me 15-20 min. I tell her I'd like to talk to the manager again and I need a refund bc it's been an hour since my food was supposed to done and honestly I was starving so the host goes to get the manager and the manager, who granted was stressed, snapped at her and told her to wait two seconds and then eventually came up to me and said I'm going to go give you a refund then disappeared once again. I then see her running around and she looks at me and goes "oh I gave you a refund" no apologies, explanation or anything. So I just okay and walked out. It's so unfortunate that such a great place now has a negative taste with me bc of one experience. Came for the chicken and waffles. I thought this was weird that they would have on the menu being that it's Mediterranean but let me tell you now, try it!!! They use dark meat chicken so it's juicy and flavorful. The falafel was pretty good, nothing to write home about. And my partner enjoyed his gyro. I'd trek across town for the chicken and waffles. Be aware it's not dress up, sit down kinda place. It's like fast casual, order at the counter like chipotle. One star off because the fries were basic. Glad we checked it out! read more

This Easter, we ordered Hellenic Republic's incredible Easter feast....and, a feast it was! Every single thing was prepared to perfection. The salad was beautifully prepared, the turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes were incredible, along with the brown sugar spiral ham and string beans. I wish I took pictures of the beautiful desserts. Everyone raved about their food. To have such a feast, without lifting a finger was a true luxury. Thank you, again and again!!! read more

Never had actual Greek food till I walked by this place. I love trying new things and felt something was telling me it was good. The workers and owner was super nice and walked around to talk to all the customers. He really loves food and having people eat here. I love the spanakopita. It was warm and cheesy and herby. And the chicken soulvaki was so good. It tasted so REAL. not covered in heavy sauces or msg. It felt light and my stomach didn't hurt after I ate it. The food here makes you feel good after you eat. Spent New Year's here for a catered event, food was served buffet style. Ordinarily, not a fan, but everything was hot, timed and cooked to perfection. Best gyro meat in south Florida. The shrimp, the chicken dishes, lamb, asparagus, everything was incredible. The baklava cheesecake was scrumptious as well. I think they need a lighted sign outside, the shopping center sneaks up on you if you're not familiar with the area and coming from the east; worth the drive from anywhere. We were greatly disappointed to have to sit outside in this heat. Not even fans were set up. The management said that there was no inside service. This should be illegal. We were surrounded by flies as well. My friend had a gyro salad and I had a half salad and spanakopita. The spanakopita was mostly dough with very little spinach inside. Service was very slow. I'm so excited that I finally got to dine here. This place is AMAZING! Let's start off by saying the owners are very hands-on and friendly. I love supporting locals that aren't afraid of the public. Nikol and her husband have a passion for this, and you can just feel their joy while dining. The location was a bit tricky as my Google maps said we had arrived, but in actuality, it was down a bit just two doors from Kilwins. Being the first time here, we walked into a very modern, clean establishment. It's outdoor seating with the choice of high top tables or traditional table seating. The menu has many delectable selections, which I did not take a picture of as there are many already posted. What I did take was our dinner choices. Get ready to drool when you see them. BOTH were perfectly seasoned and delicious. I had the moussaka served in a cast iron skillet. The eggplant wasn't mush as you often get at other restaurants, instead still a bit firm with the beef and bechamel sauce atop. The second entrée was a Greek style shrimp and grits. I've NEVER tasted grits as creamy and flavorful as these. There is no need for salt and pepper. They mastered their spices on both dishes for sure! On to desserts and coffee. We both chose the baklava cheesecake and Greek coffee (I've never had the opportunity to try this before). Served in a tiny cup and a unique blend of its own. The cheesecake was a true treat and not so easy to find around our area. At the end of the dessert and coffee, I was advised by my partner to turn my cup upside down and NOT to touch or turn it upright as what he said would bring bad juju. Who am I to question, so I did as instructed. Well, we BOTH had our coffee cups read. How FUN is that! Stopped by for lunch with my mom on a Saturday and was very pleased. Hellenic Republic is located in The Walk plaza which has a private parking lot. It can get busy during certain days/times so keep that in mind. It's a casual dining restaurant with a simple rustic European decor. They have a couple of tables indoors but most of the seating is outdoors, well covered by the building. The service is friendly & helpful, kind of like you're in someone's home. Their menu is on a QR scan. They offer lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekend (both Saturday & Sunday). We ordered the avgolemono soup, Greek fries, fried cod bowl & baklava cheesecake. We loved every bite of every dish. Quality ingredients prepared and presented with care. We will definitely be going back for their brunch. First, the good. The food was good, there's no denying it. Now the bad. I wanted to order takeout. Called to place my order. I'm told they don't take orders on the phone, only through an app; they've had too many people order and not show up. Maybe I'm just a weird anomaly but I hate ordering through apps. I much prefer the personal touch. A simple phone call. So I had to wait until I arrived there (I happened to be driving not too far away) and placed my order inside. My order was simple, a Greek salad with grilled chicken. And then I waited. And waited. It wasn't dinner hour, in fact, it was after 8 pm on a mid-weeknight. And it wasn't crowded. I sat outside and watched through the window. I watched as they packed up one order after another. And set them on the counter to be picked up. I had the eye of the server through the window. Every time he put another on the counter, I caught his eye and he gave me a sympathetic but subtle shake of his head - no, not for you. The orders stacked up, occasionally someone entered to pick up theirs. Sometimes 2 or 3 orders sat there for a while before getting picked up. You'd think they would put a little rush on an order knowing someone was sitting there waiting for it. But apparently not. After about 45 minutes, near closing time, the server packed up an order, gave me a wide grin, and brought it out to me at their outside tables. Hellenic Republic is a Greek-Mediterranean restaurant which opened in 2019 and is located in The Walk at University. My friends and I decided to meet there on a Friday night for dinner. In December Guy Fieri paid them a visit with local James Beard-winning chef Michelle Bernstein and they tried the Kataifi Fried Shrimp with Traxana, a Greek style shrimp and grits and Zarbalas' lamb burger, a beefteki patty covered in braised lamb on a toasted bun. It aired on the March 24 episode of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Unfortunately we found they don't take reservations. When my friend called and asked what the wait would be on a Friday night, she was told on the phone that it wouldn't be long. We arrived at 7 we were told that it would be an hour wait. It ended up being over two hours. When I arrived I did not realize how small this restaurant is. It only has 40 seats and all of it is outside at wooden tables with wedding type plastic chairs. Adding to that picnic feeling is there isn't even silverware. You are given plastic forks and knives. We tried to wait for a table as patiently as possible. At one point my friend was brought some pita and humus on the house because she couldn't wait any longer. I just tucked into some of their delicious sangria. We saw people who came in after us seated before us based on how loud they complained. It was almost comical. Their seating list was on the back of a brown paper bag carried around by Alonso. Towards the end of the night our table was ready at long last. The menu includes typical Greek favorites like Moussaka and land chops and street food such as braised lamb pita topped with pickled red onions. While we dined there was live music on the patio. Some of the dishes we ordered were the fries, smothered chicken, chicken pita, Greek salad, spanakopita, and octopus. We had a mixed reaction to some of the dishes. We all agreed that the baklava cheesecake was our favorite. Food was brought randomly and sporadically and sometimes not all. While some aspects of my experience were not the best I am going to stick with five stars because I feel they are a tiny place trying to handle an explosion of business brought on by Guy Fieri's visit. The family running this restaurant are long time local residents who have started up many restaurants before this. Chef Nikol Zarbalas, her husband Alonso, and even some of their children are doing their best to seat customers and bring them food. If you visit you will likely see their youngest daughter dashing around lending to the feel that they are welcoming you into their home. After we ate we had the chance to talk to Alonso who was more than agreeable to hearing about our experience. He even brought out his signed Guy Fieri signed baking pan for me to see. They haven't even had time to hang it on the wall. Painted on the wall is the restaurants philoxenia, philosophy of welcoming strangers into one's house, and I certainly felt that during my visit. Based on the hospitality of the owners I would come back to try them again for a week day lunch when hopefully it will be less crowded. We really enjoyed our experience at Hellenic Republic. We sat outside on a Saturday evening at one of their long picnic tables. There was a person playing live music on an electric piano that was great! We ordered the hand cut fries to start. The Hellenic sauce was delicious, kind of a fancy honey mustard. For entrees we got the chicken pita and Greek salad. Kind of strange they don't put in the menu that the salad comes with Greek dressing, it is served with balsamic but they also have a lemon vinaigrette if you ask. We did not get dessert but the ones in the case inside looked good. When it was time to pay the check, the server uses their personal cell phone. I think they should give the servers a stipend for using their personal phone. Overall a good experience but average Greek food. read more

Looking for lunch while in the area, this had high Yelp reviews. I decided to try it and I am so glad that I did! Owner was also the chef and she was amazing. She apologized for a slight delay as she was the only one in the restaurant at the time. Others were out doing delivery, etc. Everything was so fresh and looked so good! I decided on the Chicken Souvlaki Feast ($16.00) Greek Salad, Veggies, feta, Pita & Tzatziki. It was fabulous! Well seasoned chicken, fresh feta, salad (no tomatoes for me) but lots of olives, fresh pita, tzatziki and homemade dressing. The portion was huge, and I ended up taking home half to enjoy the next day. I would definitely return to try other dishes! They have a busy take out and delivery service as the restaurant isn't that large, but they do have some outside tables. Unfortunately, it's only limited for the month of April 2022 and i'm not sure if it'll come back again next year. If anybody happens to see this review before April ends and you're planning on going in a big group, get this! It feeds a lot of people. Overall 8/10. After seeing this restaurant on Diners Drive-ins and Dives, I gave it a try. The food was good. The servers were abysmal. The management response was good. I ordered two appetizers for lunch, and asked that they hold the second one until I finished the first. Both came out at the same time. I ordered one of their dips for take home. The server brought it out on a plate. I explained it was a takeout order. He brought it back in a styrofoam takeout container, and when I checked inside, the dip was in a cup with no lid. It had spilled out into the container. The manager came out, and after telling him about my experience, he brought the take out container inside to show the servers what not to do. He comped that portion of the bill. The manager did the right thing, and the food was well cooked. But the servers on duty at the time of my visit were woefully undertrained. With all the great reviews, this place has been on my "go-to" list for a while. Last night I ordered some take-out. Online ordering is really easy and you are given a pickup time, which was accurate. Located in The Walk on University Dr in Coral Springs, it's in between Trader Joe's and Kilwin's. It's a beautiful family-run restaurant. The décor is warm and homey. Whoever did the décor hit it out of the park. The place has a really nice vibe. Plenty of outdoor seating too. My food was just OK. Marinated Chicken Salad was a large Greek Salad with the marinated chicken on top. The chicken was really dry and it did come with tzatziki and homemade balsamic dressing but that didn't help, it was still really dry. Gyro Feast comes with choice of Fries or Rice, Greek Salad, Veggies and Pita. The rice and vegetables were fresh and cooked well. The Gyro was thick and looked like it was cut from a loaf. Unfortunately, it was very dry too. Portions were big and the two dishes ordered were enough to share. With all the 5 star reviews, maybe I just hit it on a bad night. read more

What a great Greek spot. Everything was amazing from the staff, the drinks and the food! The inside is decorated so cool! I loved the owl painted on the wall (shown in pics). The concept seemed like cart or street food, it comes out as it is ready. I can't say anything was to much or lacked anything, it was all so good. Decide to try it because of diners drive-ins and dives, he should have skipped this place. Have to admit, nothing special. Can't understand how it's 4 1/2 stars? Has anyone tried other Greek restaurants? Gyro meat over cooked and too thick. Fries were limp, with no flavor. The lamb was also over cooked, vegetables soggy, rice with no flavor. Not horrible, just an average place. This isn't the first time I tried a place rated 4 to 4 1/2 stars and it didn't deliver. I love Greek food and had Hellenic Republic bookmarked for a while. I just started eating out more often since December of 2020 and decided to try as many small businesses and local as possible. So far I have not been disappointed. We came in during lunch, there were a few people and we saw quite a few people come be. We seated ourselves, a server came with some water and asked if we were ready to order. There are no menus, qc bar codes, or a menu board. I thought his question was a little odd. I asked for a menu and he told us their menu is online and preceded to tell is their web address. I think they should have a sign or something to let people know. I saw two other people going through the same thing. It would be more efficient this way. I ended up getting the grilled salmon bowl, and an order of lemon potatoes. My fish was cooked to perfection. The portion of fish itself isn't big, but it comes with a lot of rice (couldn't even eat half) pita and roasted veggies. I will ask next time if they can give me a bit more veggies and less rice. I was very happy with it overall. The potatoes were delicious and came on a bes of spinach, which was a nice bonus. The hubs had the lamb bowl and he loved it. Prices are reasonable as far as the pitas, bowls and salads go. The big plates seemed a little expensive for the type of place it is, but I don't know how "big" those are, so don't take my word for it. Stopped by here for dinner. Place looks great and clean. The service was awesome the two guys at the counter helped steer me towards what to order. Food was prepared quickly - about 15 minutes. I ordered Beeftekia Pita 12.50 - Very good. Meat was tender, cooked medium rare to medium (perfect). Came with greens, tomato, pickled onions and tzatziki. I added the Hellenic sauce (.50 cents). My only complaint is that without the sauce, the actual meat didn't seem to have much flavor. Could have used perhaps a pinch of salt, that's the only thing keeping me from giving them a perfect 5. Came with fries which were EXCELLENT. Very flavorful and freshly made. Gyro Salad (14.00) - All fresh ingredients. Also very flavorful. It's an awesome place.
