I am a professional high-end cook/chef and this is the first and only 5 star review I've written on yelp. If this place has a weakness, it is that it makes crumby food catering to diner goers and the general public. So . . . DON'T go there and order a gyro sandwich, or chicken fingers and hope for an experience. I know it LOOKS like a diner, but pass on that that stuff. Unfortunately the service is on par with a slack diner, but the food is so good I don't care. (A rarity for me.) DO go there and order all of the "authentic-sounding" greek preparations. Go with a big group and order one of everything that sounds greek - you will have a great experience. The octopus is awesome! The stuffed peppers are great. The saganaki is stellar, as is the grilled haloumi. The whole broiled fluke is really good. and on and on. This is one of the few places I know of that has consistently delicious food. It doesn't qualify as cheap, but it is one of the great values in the area. It is truly one of my favorite places to eat in the world and I cannot wait to go back. I know this sounds ridiculously glowing, but as a cook I am discerning and a little picky. In my opinion this place delivers delicious (not a word I use lightly) and well seasoned food consistently and for a decent price. It is definitely worth checking out. read more

Just had the open faced gyro which was fresh and filling. Had the salads in the past and they are just as fresh and good. Only complaint I have is I didn't get any lemonade, which I forgot to order. It's the best. Family owned with a very friendly staff. A must for locals and visitors. read more

Visited restaurant on August 23rd. It was for a birthday party. Venue nice enough and pricing is reasonable. Hugely disappointed in the food. We were a party of 8 and order variety from the menu (appetizer sampler plate, eh). Chicken kabab tasted like rubber. Took a bite and left rest unfinished. Overall, food tasted like diner food. I like the place and would return but I hope they make more of an effort at making the food taste better read more

70 minutes to get a gyro and a chicken souvlaki. Tomato in the gyro had black spots on it. Lettuce was non-existent. Over-dressed to try and cover up the other flaws. Chicken souvlaki was cold. Service poor. Not worth the price. Avoid at all costs. read more

Don't let the name fool you. No greasy gyros here! This is delicious, sophisticated, authentic Greek cuisine created with healthy, fresh, local ingredients (the tomatoes in my super tasty Greek salad were the best I have had so far this season (it's 9/5.) The wine list is impressive, too, and includes several dozen local wines by the glass. They even offer an $18 tasting of four local varietals, just one sign of how this place has clearly stepped up its game since its early days as an actual "snack bar" and adapted from a marina-and-beach-focused environ to a more vineyard-y vibe. They evidently partner with local vineyards for tasting dinners in the fall. As a native Long Islander with who takes the Cross Sound Ferry to and from Orient Point at least twice a year, I have driven by this place several dozen times over the past 25 years (but it's been here over 40 years..."forever" my waitress just told me before the delightful chef/owner, George, came by to introduce himself...it seems to be a family business for several generations.) The friendly energy, great food & inviting atmosphere (there are fire pits in the middle of the lovely Adirondack-style outdoor tables-another nice touch!) add up to make this place a real winner. This is one of our favorite places to go to when we vacation out East. It has family run authentic Greek food. I have many favorite items. I love the avgolemeno soup and the Gyro's. The dolmades are served warm with lemon juice. The lemonades are the best around. Has a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. The breakfasts are unique as well. Their is a delicious omelet with dolmades cut up and cooked in. I never would of thought of that but now I make it at home! Worth a try! You will love it! read more

First I have to say that this place has been a favorite of mine since the 80's. I looked forward to their opening this year after the holiday season was over. Two weeks back I was working late and what better idea then takeout from Hellenic. Right? Wrong... I got a large salad with gyro meat, wifey got small salad and gyro in foil. After the first bite I knew something was wrong. The gyro meat tasted like it came from a bag, had no grill marks. The tomatoes were mealy, tasteless and pale. The worst part was the onions. The yellow onions were so strong and so heavy that every piece of the salad tasted like a raw yellow onion. I'm not sure if the staff was home sick and they had the dishwasher in the kitchen but this meal was beyond disappointing. I know Hellenic can knock it out of the park but this night was a bitter onion. Btw the large salad with gyro meat was $22 and was in the exact same container and size a wife's small. This ugly meal was a fortune. read more

I have been coming here for over 30 years. My wife and kids tell me everything is great but I wouldn't know. I get the Greek salad and souvlaki sandwich every time, for 30 years. It is so good, I can't bear to not order it. Once in a while my wife will bust my chops about ordering the same thing - so I get it open faced. This place makes me glad I live here read more

MY 100TH REVIEW!!! Fantastic restaurant in East Marion. It is far from where I live, but I love to journey out here after a long day out in Greenport. WOW! This place on the side of the main road really impressed me, especially in an area of seafood restaurants. Usually I trek to Astoria for really good Greek food. This restaurant is better than most in Astoria. The menu is a bit expensive, but they have a large selection of Greek classics and innovative ideas put on a plate. It is always crowded here, but I would suggest about 5-6 on weekends. There are three dining sections, one outside, the main dining room, and a smaller one through a door. The staff are plenty here, but they are also super excited to help you out. The hummus is really good, hand blended for sure, because you can still taste the chickpea skins and all of that juicy flavor. The Ospria salad, consisting of string beans, canellini beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, and onions, is spectacular. So is their Greek salad. Their gyro is so good. There is so much meat packed into that pita shell. I got mine with lettuce and tzatziki, and I was impressed. The souvlaki is also very delicious. Their seafood selection is really broad and delicious. Their specials, depending on the day, are really spectacular. Coming back here every time when going out on the island for some really special Greek food! read more

I went to this place last month and had Greek food for the first time. I have to say that was the best experience for the first time ever. Not only the food was good, the environment and the people are very nice and welcoming also. It was busy at the time I went to visit (on a week day) but the time from ordering to having the food on my table was fairly quick. I got Greek wine and raspberry lemonade, very nice booze and lovely wine taste. I would recommend this place for everybody whether you decide to try it as individual or come as a party. I'm sure they can handle y'all since they just expanded their business capacity :D read more

FLAVORFUL and fantastic! I was traveling in from Rhode Island, decided to stop, and was extremely impressed with the food. I had the best stuffed grape leaves ever (dolmades), and I've tried them at many places. They're made on site and there's nothing like them- spritzed with some lemon...perfection. Also had the "Grecian" burger. Most people will say "a hamburger is a hamburger...", well not here. It was very flavorful, and unique, with onions and peppers cooked fresh inside the burger. I had mine topped with Swiss cheese. Yum! Everything was topped off by excellent service, wonderful waitstaff. I highly recommend this place, so if you're in the area and driving to or from the Cross Sound Ferry, stop in! read more

first class family orientated Greek restauraunt. Not far from the New London Orient Point Ferry- and Greenport is close too. Food is very good portions and large everything is fresh prices are a good value-you get your money's worth. Be sure and try the black olive paste from Greece they sell in small jars- that is excellent. Only downside is an jhour or more ride east from most of Suffolk County NY. Still, a good way to end a day trip by ferry to CT or Mass or a day on the North Fork read more

Pretty much the only reasonable place to eat all the way out there, but not much better than a run of the mill diner although the menus and signs try to tell you different. Very busy when I went. Waiter forgot about us a few times. Ordered soulvaki and it was pretty flavorless and not very fresh. I bet the guy cooked up a whole lot of it earlier and served it not fresh to me. It was not very good at all. Decent local wine list, but the food is not very good and the service is bad. However I do not know where else I would eat for a casual meal out there. read more

Always a good time here. Lynn the waitress is very entertaining so that was enjoyable. The food was good. The only thing that was a let down was the calamari portion size. We got the entree portion for the table but I would say that 1 person could have eaten that by themselves as an app and then gone on to dinner. Went tonight for the first time and was blown away by the freshness of the food and friendliness of the staff. Wine list included picks from various regions but didn't shy away from representing many of the better local vineyards. Ordered the whole roasted fish which was just as good or better than any NYC spot I've ever been. Outstanding as usual. In East Marion, skip the cool places in Greenport and head over to East Marion for this landmark Greek restaurant . Their food is outstanding. The marinated onions & tomatoes atop salads & with the tender, moist Souvlaki ; Cauliflower Croquettes( just get them they're great) outstanding Calamari, split pea salad- a delicious creamy spread or the eggplant ( like hummus but fabulous) and many more appetizers; Soups, you must get the Yigantes Plaki giant Lima beans and the green beans with tomato- onion chutney as a side or served with the lamb, Pastitio, anything with Skordalia sauce and really, everything is so good! Interesting cocktails , we had the Hail Mary , a nice twist on the Bloody Mary and you should try the luscious lemonade. A great value with dinner was the wine flight , your choice of 4 mini carafes , try some of the L.I. Wines! So glad we got another chance to dine there after Thanksgiving before they close for the winter on Nov. 29th. read more
