I have been coming here for 7 year sand it's time for my haircut/color and something just doesn't sit right with me and I don't think that i will be coming here anymore.. Stylists are still good but they have to put it together in terms of customer service. Place reeks of weed, stylist seem jaded and are constantly chatting among themselves about their gossip making you feel like an afterthought and last time when I was getting my hair washed stylist pretended to be putting a hair coloring bottle in my nose. I've been doing my hair at Hello Beautiful for the last 3 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I have gone from brunette, red, ombré, blonde and have had highlights, low lights, keratin treatments and my hair still feels healthy as ever. I've never left disappointed thanks to Kristina. Sooo I love Toshi! .. I use to color my hair every few months all different bright and pastel colors. I love changing my hair. . Then someone burned it OFF! Seriously, the top layers of my hair were burnt off with bleach to where it was like 2 inches long :/. I had to cut my hair and it is still growing back a year later. . Sucks! When I went in to see Toshi I explained what had happened and that I haven't had my hair properly cut in a little over a year because after it was burnt off and I grew it a bit someone else cut it like a really short ugly bob and now I'm so afraid to have it touched! lol. Sooo to paint you a picture. . The bottom layers are growing faster than the burnt off part. The top of my hair in the crown area was like a bowl cut to my ears and the rest was a little past my shoulders. What is my life? .. anyways, I was really nervous but Toshi was lovely and I even ended up letting her cut like an inch and a half to two inches off of my hair to blend everything. . Remember I have been so terrified to cut it. Now I'm letting her cut inches off. Long story short I LOVE MY HAIR. It turned out amazing and it looks like an actual hair style now. I just moved here and NOW I can say I'm home.....I had an appt w/ Rebecca and I loved her. She listened to what I wanted and when she saw it wasn't exactly what I wanted (even though I couldn't tell, but she has the expert eye. )she then made it perfect without charging me extra. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! I came in primarily to correct a bad dye job I did myself, but the color turned red after being left on too long, so I have had to correct the color a second time. An aloof, hipster blonde with a Nico-esque accent started with the dye, left it in, sat me down, zoned out, and then took another customer while I was sitting right there. I don't know how long this particular dye was supposed to be left in but I had read all their magazines, my scalp was burning and itching, my eyes were watering, I was sneezing while Factory Girl was still chatting and cutting the new customer's hair. She had forgotten about me. The owner of the salon, Rebecca, came to the rescue and rinsed my hair, but it was really too late. Then she cut my hair wet, which is not how curly hair is meant to be cut, and blew it dry, also no good for curls, and ripped it out with a brush, HARD, which HURT like hell , killed my scalp and hair. I won't mention, or maybe I will, that she laughed about her and a dude who works on their website, smoking pot in the little outdoor area behind the shop. I partake too, so i laughed with them about it, and talked about my own pill addiction, hahaha, but the thing is, I do that stuff in my leisure, whereas she was high when she cut my hair, which i paid for, dearly, in more than one way. Rebecca talked about being high fairly openly so it seemed to be a non-issue, I don't care who smokes pot or not, Blue Dreams all the way - but my hair may have turned out better with a sober judge in charge of my mane. And she's the OWNER of the damned place. Also, as much as i wish I was buzzed right the eff now, it did make me consider the possibility that the whole reason Blonde Bjork zoned out and forgot about me and kept nodding out was because she was high as balls too, on something a little harder. Or that the owner didn't get on her about it because of the whole easy-peasey, anything-goes attitude here. There are currently giant-breasted, fake cum-covered mannequins in the window of this place wearing nothing but black latex "Blow Job Bibs". Stay Classy!!! Cost over $200 and my hair is fried. Would never go back. Good for Kids?!?! Dear sweet little baby jeesus, keep your kids away from this hideous, tacky hellmouth!!! ARGH. read more

I love this salon! From the decor, to the merchandise and most importantly the hair dressers! My hair dresser was Harley and we had a thorough consultation. I had really long hair and was ready for a change/cut. She helped me figure out the length of my bangs and the amount we would take off on the ends. I also needed a single process dye of my whole head and a blow out. She covered all of my grays with a blue black shade that I picked out! The end result of everything was perfection. My hair has never felt so weightless from a blow out in years. The color looks so good and I love the way my hair cut frames my face. I have never had a salon make me want to move to a city until now. I've been visiting this area of Bushwick for 13 years since my college friend moved in around the corner from where the salon is located. None of the many changes to the area bring as much joy and community as this salon. And a master-level haircut at a reasonable price. I actually live in Los Angeles and am now more strongly considering a cross-country move knowing it would mean being able to have my hair maintained by Rebecca Faye. My hair turned out ok, but my experience here was *not* good. The stylist barely said 2 words to me and didn't listen at all to what I wanted. I went in for a color refresh and a cut. She did my color, blow-dried it, then said, "ok, you're all done." I said, "um, I actually wanted a haircut, too." She said "oh, oops." I was really excited to have the folks at Hello Beautiful Salon give me a new style! Seems like they weren't as excited about me. I got a prompt reply to an email asking which stylist I should chat with about perms, so I called and left my name and number. After a few days I called and did the same thing again and still got no response. I guess they decided they didn't want my business? I had my second dramatic restyle, here, last week. With the same talented stylist. She did such a great job, just like last year! Both on cut and extreme color. I feel as hot as I did the first time I had this style! And not being funny but we are talking aboUt a decade of age and general misuse, in between time, and style! I am 44 now and even I think I look amazing! I am definitely returning within weeks to re bleach and cut my very short hair. this time even whiter in color. I've been wandering from salon to salon for 6 years, and it wasn't until I found this quirky shop from a reality TV show on the style network that I finally found my favorite new beauty home. :D I always walk out of there feeling like a rock star. I've gotten extensions there a few times and would really, really recommend them. My friends get their extensions done at a place in Manhattan and the hair is obviously fake or plastic. The extensions I get from Rebecca look totally natural and the hair is wonderful quality that matches mine seamlessly. The best part is that my lovely Hellobeautiful extensions are not only nicer than my friend's, but cheaper! So I've been wanting lilac hair for MONTHS and every place I went to, they told me it was impossible (wtf) because I had dark hair. Now I've been coloring my hair for years - purple, blue, pink, you name it, and I know to what degree my hair SHOULD be bleached before I need to stop and let it recover. Rebecca immediately went to town and made me as light as she could without letting my hair fall out (with Chase overseeing everything) ;) and now I have a dark lilac / violet that I know will lighten with time. The staff was friendly, informative, and down to earth. None of the hoity-toity attitudes you can get from certain Manhattan salons. That's just my hair! I got my nails done too, and she was so sweet! I was lucky to have been there when her client was a no-show and now I feel like a rockstar. I can't even begin to tell you how damn happy I am about the cut and color I got at Hello Beautiful. I am currently plagued by the guilt I did not post a review immediately upon leaving the salon, but I got busy for a few weeks parading my new 'do around. I have really complicated hair, really unrealistic visions, and unpractical demands. Bleaching ginger afro hair into a perfect asymmetrical pearly white sash requires a degree of skill, swagger and style that I have never, NEVER found elsewhere, and my job requires me to sail the seven seas. I spent almost three hours with Rebecca because she's such a perfectionist she couldn't have me possibly leave the salon with half-toned hair. This is a display of commitment that someone would agree to sit with me for that long. Two things: - All across Europe (save the UK) and other parts of the US, you find hairdressers that are either really into crazy stuff, specific styles, catering to what you actually want, even if it sounds a little nuts when you describe it but somehow make it work:; or, you have those playing it safe because they're scared of a bad result (insecure), of a bad review (self-absorbed). The latter clearly do not interest me. If you think what I demand is completely impossible, say so, and let's work it out together. If you think you're just not the person for the job, say it, and I will look elsewhere. There is zero shame in accepting there's just stuff you're not good at. I can't do 6th grade math to save my life. I'm not going to pretend I do then flake out halfway through it. As a fake blonde, issues of bleach and toner have been raised before, and I have super thick hair. It's a mess. Rebecca listened, ran her fingers through my hair, took a good look at me, and told me to sit in the chair then draped a leopard print cape over my shoulders. I felt like Pam Grier. Like, a ginger Pam Grier bleaching her hair. - Rebecca *got* what I wanted, and she gave it to me EXACTLY how I wanted it, but BETTER. Her adorable dog jumped and sat on my lap. I have read other reviews on here complaining about how supposedly "over-friendly" that was, but really, if you're bothered by the fact someone is looking to make a connection and try to make you have a good time while they're re-arranging your headsuit, consider the fact you may be the one with the problem. This is not the L train at rush hour. You can take your time. And time she did take: the shampoo, and the conditioner, and the bleaching of the roots, and the toner, and then the toner, and then the toner again, then the cut, then the blow-drying. The result was mind-blowing. It takes someone who is capable of understanding people and relating to them to be able to alter their appearance in a relatively drastic way (for some) and yet making it feel comfortable and like it was supposed to be that way all along. Rebecca and I had a lovely, heart-warming and touching conversation - my schedule in NYC turned upside down a few days later and sadly I wasn't able to get back in touch with her, but she's a great woman, and members of her staff were equally sweet to me. Can I put a half star? I just got my hair done today at this place and the best way for me to describe the experience is...HAIR RAPE! My stylist, who also is the owner, was taking phone calls from her cell, talking with her friend sitting right next to us, and hacking away at my hair for maybe 8 minutes if even that. I felt like an unwanted (paying) guest at her salon. As an Eye doc, I was wondering if I was even visible? She does a great job with my difficult color (platinum blonde), gives a good haircut and recently styled my hair for a big event....she did a wonderful job. Hello Beautiful Salon is definitely an experience. If you´re not familiar with the location give yourself additional 5 minutes before the appointment to find it. The shop is vibrant and fun to explore while waiting (I had to wait only about 5-10 min.). Funky clothing, jewelery, sunglasses and all for great prices. My appointment was with Rebecca. After only few minutes talk about the color she started her craft. I wanted a white/silver blonde (I had pltinum blonde hair already). Rebecca works very fast and is very easy going. It was perfect for me because when I´m at a hair salon I don´t want to tell the stylist my life story, I just want to exchange information, have a few jokes and enjoy my time there with reading silly magazines so that worked out great for me! During the ppointment you might have one of the dogs on your lap. I liked that. Even when Rebecca was gone the other girls would ask if I´m ok and if I need anything. To the color: the white/silver-greyish blonde was fabulous. It was perfect and I couldn´t believe that it was done so fast. After that I got my haircut. Bangs and layers. Rebecca was awesome with the bangs. For the first time I actually trusted that my bangs will be the way I like them.The layers were ok... At the end I nd everyone else loved my hair. Rebecca didn´t really style it but she put it together in a way that felt very ntural for me. She recommended to buy a shampoo to keep the blonde pretty and not to wash my hair too often. The total cost ws $200. Bottom line is, Rebecca knows what she´s doing! The only minus: if you go out for several cigarette breaks you have to figure outr how to get rid of the smell on your hands since they´re always close to the customers face. read more
