Tons of selection! And very authentic gelato...it was delicious! We got a medium cup with two scoops...we tried the strawberry lemonade flavor and the blueberry cheesecake flavor. Both were excellent but that blueberry cheesecake flavor was seriously fantastic! You gotta try it! They even had a "charcoal" flavor (wth?? Is that a thing?? Lol), the staff said it was activated charcoal mixed with a little chocolate and vanilla. The portions were generous, but it was a little pricey imo. Still worth it for a treat. The staff were very friendly and they let you sample flavors. read more

With so many flavors to choose from, there's no reason for someone to walk out of here empty handed or at least paying a visit without trying a few samples! I've been a few times before, but on my last visit we had walked in maybe 20 minutes before closing and the guy immediately told us that he would be closing right now so we wouldn't be able to enjoy the gelato inside. This was fine since we weren't planning on staying anyways, but I thought it was weird and a little early for him to be closing up shop when there could be sales! There were a few people who had walked in after us in the end and they received the same spiel. I was being considerate and only asked for a couple samples -- I played it safe and ordered 1 scoop of hazelnut and 1 scoop of I think it was black sesame. The guys that were leaving as we were walking in gave us their stamp card which was awfully nice of them -- they must have been from out of town. Great little stop in Old Town and also super close in proximity to King's Row (just down the hall). read more

Did someone say gelato? Mmmmm...this cute little gelato spot is perfectly nestled in between shops on Colorado Blvd. A nice little surprise to run into while walking and shopping on Pasadena's shopping district, especially on this hot summer day. When you step inside, you're greeted by two large gelato displays. Yummy flavors like salted caramel, tiramisu and a variety of fruit sherbets. The women who helped us was so sweet and she allowed us to sample the flavors. So many choices, if I could I would of ordered each flavor neatly stacked on top of each other on a cone. I went with salted caramel and my friend got green tea both on cones. Delicious! Not too sweet, hit the spot and satisfied my sweet tooth. We paid 3.50 each, well worth it! We enjoyed our heavenly treats while walking and shopping. I'm ready for another visit to try the other flavors! Yummm and yumm! read more

Not only was the owner amiable, but the overall condition of the shop was immaculate and appealing. Hello Gelato has the best and most natural flavors that I've had. Their "Kiwi Italian Soda" is also very refreshing. 10/10. read more

First time trying gelato & I love! There are so many flavors to choose from and they even let you try them if you wish! The sizes of the little cups are deceitful lol. You think they're small but they actually hold more than you can think! I tried the strawberry lemonade and mango! Couldn't get enough, it was so good. The little shop was small and it didn't draw my attention at first bc the exterior was underwhelming but so glad we found it. For sure going to be my first stop when I'm in the area. read more

I love this place. Best gelato ever. I usually order about 4-6 pints at a time to share with others. So sad. Tonight I came in a the young lady helping me said 'oh, I remember you. How many are you ordering?" There were no customers in the store. I felt a bit embarrassed as if I were inconveniencing her. She suggested I pre-order next time because people like to 'order and get out'. I thanked her for her suggestion. Now I know. read more

The gelato is thick and creamy. They are generous with their servings. There was a good selection of different flavors (But not quite as unique as a prior gelato store now out of business in Pasadena).The store was clean and the servers were friendly and helpful. There is limited seating in the store. read more

Very delicious gelato ! I got the cookies and cappuccino / vanilla bean on a cone & my husband had the blueberry cheesecake & mango. It was very refreshing and not overly sweet. Perfect way to end a Monday!!! Only tip - the one gentleman working there was a bit rude. Quite unnecessary if you ask me; hence as to why I gave this 4/5 stars. Place was VERY GOOD. You can tell how good the gelato place is by how little stock they have later in the day. If the gelato is still full. It's bad gelato which means no one bought it. Many good flavors. Lots of options. 20+. I had the lemon (with a little basil) and chocolate. Fantastic. Highly recommend. read more

Pistachio gelato: 10/10. Tasted like genuine pistachio gelato straight out of Italy. I came back from Europe and have since been hunting down pistachio gelato everywhere I go. Also on a commercial street of Pasadena, great for date night/late night strolls. I inquired about charcoal gelato because, well, it's called charcoal! Server was unable to provide insight on charcoal. Can any Yelpers out there enlighten me? I have a charcoal face mask, that's about as charcoal-y as it gets for me. read more

Nothing like a yummy scoop of gelato on a hot day. I was overwhelmed by the flavor selection here, not saying thats a bad thing though! They have chocolate flavors, sweet flavors, matcha, fruity flavors. You are sure to find something you like here. We decided on a rocky road and strawberry and I was very pleased :) Nice big scoops to fill the cup. Enjoyed it on the bench provided right outside, in the little alley way. We will be back again this summer! read more

For those of us on a low-FODMAP diet (it's not a trendy diet, google it), we sometimes crave a sweet treat. We can't have lactose, soy, milk chocolates or processed sugar and the list goes on and on. Due to Covid I could not test taste any flavors so I felt overwhelmed with so many options. I like how the gelato is served over the rim which is how all gelato should be served which is a 1standard for me. My taste buds did not like the gelato because it was too sweet for me and it was missing that creamy texture and rich flavor I love from gelato. Helloooooooo Gelatoooooo! Thank you for being conveniently located in Old Town Pasadena, and a better option than 21 Choices (and for having more than 21 flavors)! =GELATO= I ordered TARO and CAFFE ESPRESSO. Of all the flavors I've tried, those two stood out the most to me. The taro flavor was so strong and exactly what I'd expected/hoped for when I first read the reviews. Very smooth and creamy and well worth the hype. There were 2 coffee flavors but the caffe espresso was so much stronger because of the espresso, so I picked this one. I ordered both flavors in a cup, and ordered an extra sugar cone on the side...because I love sugar cones! =)''' However, I docked 1 star because after having met Uli and after trying her gelato in DTLA, there's no comparison. Sea Salt Caramel? Nopes...just like every other place, too much caramel and hardly any sea salt. Pistachio? Not bad, not bad. The gelato was not as buttery/creamy as Uli's either. =SERVICE= I docked another star for the service. I can't stand it when places start get stingy with samples. I have been to phenomenal ice-crea/gelato/yogurt places that have no limit to the samples. Some even give suggestions to samples based on your likings to the point where you just don't want to see another sample. NOT HERE! I tried a few samples because I want to know what I liked before settling. After about 4, I asked if I could try another one and the lady said, "I can only give you one more." She was nice enough to give me 2 since I couldn't decide on which coffee flavor to choose from, but why limit the samples if your customers don't know what they like? It's not like I wasn't going to buy any...I even paid extra for a sugar cone!! =FINAL VERDICT= Not the best gelato I've had, but a good option when in Old Town Pasadena. Beware of limited samples and limited seating (there were like...2 tables inside). If I had to choose between Hello Gelato and 21 Choices, I'd choose Hello Gelato. But if I had to choose between Hello Gelato and Gelateria Uli...hellooooo ULI!!! read more

Huge, very enticing selection of gelato, I wanted to climb behind the counter and grab samples of each, THAT'S how good it looked! Asian owned, very sweet and helpful, my son had cookies and cream and peanut butter, very rich, creamy, decadent with good flavors. I had the blueberry pie, also very very good. Prices are average at $4 a scoop, but they are generous scoops and you can split it up in two flavors, which gives you two nice sized scoops and enough sugar to fuel you through the rest of the day. Great location In Pasadena, easy metered parking out front. I'll be back when I am in the area! read more

This is now my go to gelato spot. It's going to be part of my routine whenever I'm in old town Pasadena! They wild a wide selection of fruit flavored gelato and chocolate / dessert flavored ones. Everything is delicious! They also offer a few free samples to taste before you commit to a cup or cone but don't worry, everything is good! I like how you can get two flavors in a cup I also like their cup sizes: small, medium and large. The small May look tiny but it's the perfect amount for me! The staff are super friendly and generous when it comes to scooping the gelato. There are a few seating arrangements inside but I like to walk a block to the park on Fair Oaks and enjoy it there. Parking is limited to street or the structures around the corner. Highly recommended! read more

This is my favorite Gelato place in Pasadena...or anywhere really. I cant find matcha green tea or banana anywhere but here! I don't onow why that is, but what ever the case its delicious! Its light & doesnt make you feel heavy if you lactose intolerant. And all the flavors taste exactly like what they are. I had a chance to sample most of the flavors before covid. read more

Located in Pasadena, it is somewhat cramped but also a cozy place to catch up with a friend. Service was okay since the women just asked what we wanted and fulfilled our order. Food: Recently I tried the hazelnut and vanilla flavored gelato and it is not too sweet but had much flavor. Unlike other gelato places, Hello Gelato is very fresh and light. I got the small size since last time when I got the medium size, I could barely finish it. They stuff the cups so its enough for a little Asian girl like me! Favorite dessert place in Old Pasadena! Homemade everyday, large variety of flavors including dairy free and sugar free, family owned, and delicious! My favorites are the salted caramel and blueberry cheesecake. A small runs $4.25 and you can get two flavors. I could eat more, but the small is just right. They offer a buy 10 get one free card. The owner has been there most every time I've been in. He's very, very nice, and actually serves you. I think his daughter was there once, and she was nice too. I love to support local, family owned businesses just like this one. Give them a try, and chances are you'll become a regular too. read more

the cups are small, but they really make sure they PACK it hard as well as over-heap it. I tried a few flavors, but was most impressed with the Taro with it's subtle flavor and pretty color. Added a little lavender sweet cream to my life after a invigorating, visually stimulating walk around the historical core of Pasadena where this creamery is located. No bathrooms, but the bar at the end of the shared entry way lets you use theirs. read more

After walking off our dinners down at the Luggage Room, we stopped in at Hello Gelato. Occasionally, I have these "getting older" moments, rife with cynicism via societal progress. When I come to a trendy dessert place like Hello Gelato, with it's $4 tiny cups of frozen delights, I'm whisked away in my brain to standing at the Thrifty ice cream counter, trying to decide if I want to spend 35 cents for a double or really splurge and spend 65 cents on a triple cone. No, I'm not an octogenarian... those were 80s prices! Anyway...and so you don't think I'm a penny-pinching cheapskate, Bride and I had a few tasters before making our selections. I tried the Snozzberry (fruity with a Hawaiian punch thing going on) and chocolate (which I ended up ordering.) Mrs. ordered the lemon, then took it next door and ate it with a 35er gin and tonic! Good combo... even the bartender was impressed with the gelato chaser. Don't come here hoping to sit down... The place is small. But there's a lot of selection, and it's all visually appealing. This is much more of an order and walk down Colorado sort of place. I always want to ask the guy behind the counter if he can just cut to the chase and put a sample spoonful of every flavor in a bowl for me... but then, you were just starting to believe I WASN'T cheap, right? read more

None of this is a deal-breaker, but the feeling of "tiredness" permeated my interaction with the staff, too. There was no joy behind the counter, which I found odd for ice cream that is supposedly about the love of travel. When I tried to order a scoop of one flavor, I was told that I couldn't have it because there wasn't enough left for a full scoop. When I asked if I could have the half scoop that remained and just combine it with another flavor (trying to solve the problem for them), I was told that they aren't allowed to do half and half splits anymore. Fortunately, another employee showed up at that very moment with a fresh full tub of that flavor, but it still struck me as odd. They were also out of cones because of another problem. I am giving them four stars because the ice cream is still great and definitely worth a try if you've never had it, but I hope they can maintain their spark and magic as they continue to expand.

I appreciate how patient the staff is and how much they want you to choose a flavor that you really want to eat. The test for me is always how places treat my older parents, who sometimes have a few extra questions and take a few extra moments to decide. I never feel like we are in the way or a burden, and so it's no surprise that this is my 74 year old dad's favorite spot. We'll keep coming as long as it stays like this! Overall, a great ice cream shop to stop by if you're looking for a sweet treat while browsing downtown Pasadena.

As for the fish itself, the portions are very fair, and the quality is good. They gave a pretty generous amount of avocado as well, which was very fresh, and you do not have to pay extra for it. If you've been here, you know they have a display case with slices of cake and pie. Normally you look through the case and point to the piece you want. That's exactly what I did. There were about ten pieces of cake in the case, and I picked one that had the perfect icing-to-cake ratio. The employee asked what I wanted, and when I pointed to the slice she told me, "You can only pick from these two," while holding up two other pieces. Apparently those were the older slices that they were trying to get rid of. They were clearly smaller and, judging by how they were being pushed, probably not the freshest either. Since I was basically being forced to buy something I didn't want, I said I didn't want anything. She just said "okay" and moved on to help the rest of my family. At that point I told my family we were leaving and heading to Bloomfield Creamery in Altadena instead. The employee had every opportunity to use a little common sense and simply give me the slice I asked for. I work hard for my money, and if I'm paying premium prices, I expect to choose what I'm buying. Instead, they lost Madre family of customers for good.
