We stumbled upon this place while looking for a nearby place to eat. The nitro green tea is amazing and has great flavor. I highly recommend it! As for the hand rolls, each one was overstuffed with rice and kept falling apart each time we took a bite. There was also only one sushi chef making hand rolls for the entire restaurant. However, the timing of each roll being served was appropriate, not too quick or too slow. We felt as if the quality of the ingredients weren't good and left an underwhelming experience. Visiting the Vancouver area and stumbled across Hello Nori when yelping Japanese restaurants. I'm from Los Angeles and we have Kazu Nori, which has the same intimate format, similar rolls, and not to mention, a very similar sounding name. My bf and I each ordered the 5-roll set. The star of the show I would say was the truffle lobster roll. It was so delicious & creamy :) Overall, Hello Nori is a great place to try if you've never had a hand roll experience like this, however if you've tried one of the Kazu Nori's in the US, you'll find this restaurant a bit redundant of experience. Pricing, I would not say is much cheaper than Kazu Nori, if at all. Still a decent lunch spot! And friendly, attentive staff. read more

This is a chain restaurant, and we went to the one on Robson Street in downtown Vancouver. Parking is hard to find off of the main street, so be prepared to look for spots in the back alleys. The place only has bar seating and their waits can be up to 40 minutes long. Once seated, you fill out your own order on a card and then give it to the sushi chef when ready. We ordered the 6-hand roll combo in addition to the unagi and the salmon aburi add-ons. To finish it off, we tried their mochi ice cream. There were some issues with our order. First, the sushi chef forgot to make one of our rolls before we had to remind him. Also, the time between rolls and also the dessert took a bit long. For example, we waited about 20 minutes for our mochi ice cream to come out after we finished our last roll. The rolls themselves were inconsistent. Some had fillings that were ice cold while others have warmed close to room temperature. When it came it to eat the dessert, we were given a wooden fork that had black mold growing on it (see picture). In terms of taste, the rolls were on par with other sushi places and priced reasonably. However, Hello Nori lacked consistency. We tried the five-roll lunch, and the standouts were the scallop roll and the yellowtail roll. I also had an eel roll that was excellent. I wanted to check out Robson Street in Vancouver and have some good sushi and this concept was unique and gave me my Robson Street fix as well. With that, comes street parking that is hard to find as this place does not offer private parking. There was only a short wait for our party of 4 around 2pm and this was great since they have limited seating all around a bar. From there, the menu is straight forward with all hand rolls, made to order. They have combos that you can get that come with certain rolls and you end up saving a few bucks. I got the Combo 6 which included the truffled lobster and the snow crab, both of which I really wanted to try. The rolls aren't that big, but they are delicious. The bar seating allows you to watch them be made. The scallop roll was unique, but my favorite was the truffle lobster, since the snow crab was a bit heavy on the mayo. We also tried the salmon oshi, which is seared salmon on top of rice and a jalapeno slice on top and it was so good, we ordered a few more. The servie was great and it was a fun experience. One of my absolute favorite and must stop in Vancouver, BC! Hello Nori is my standard for handrolls and the quality and service are all there. Located in a super busy area, but you can find street parking. The interior is minimal, but very aesthetically pleasing. There is probably around 20 + seats all around the bar, so you don't have to worry about waiting too long. If there is a wait, you can always order a drink and hang out in the meantime. The menu is simple and they always have a special. The first time, I ordered the set. But after that, I order what I want a la carte and find the price doesn't change much in terms of a deal. The seaweed is always crispy and the rice is seasoned and warm. The ratio of protein to rice is on point and they always do a great job of being able to balance when you finish eating and then preparing your next order. They do offer more than just hand rolls, so something for everything. The quality is super fresh and I haven't had a bad experience, or bad fish. If you do come during the winter, they do a huge giftcard sale so you can get even more bang for your buck. I love that they open later and it is never a bad food option. Great for a date, to catch up, or even just a quick dinner. I highly recommend anybody that enjoys handrolls to make a stop here and I always make a stop whenever I'm in town (at least once a day, haha). read more

I live in California so I didn't have high expectations for this place as I knew that I am spoiled with great seafood and handrolls back at home, but this place did not disappoint. My friend and I came here for a late dinner around 9:30 pm on a weekday and got seated immediately. They're open pretty late until 11 pm since they have happy hour at night until closing. I ordered the 4 Hand Roll set and the Toro was my absolute favorite, it was so tasty that I didn't even need any soy sauce and I love that it has chives in it because it gives it a nice crunch. I also enjoyed the Salmon as it had a little hint of sesame which I really liked. The Snow Crab was good but didn't wow me, and I wasn't a fan of the Spicy Shrimp as it tasted too much like mayo. I wasn't hungry when I came here so the 4 set filled me up, otherwise I probably would have needed 5. The customer service is very friendly, speedy, and attentive here. You get seated on high tops, get to pick which hand rolls you'd like to eat and have the hand rolls made fresh in front of you. First time I came here I got the 5 hand roll set menu, but this time I only got two hand rolls since it was close to dinner time already. My friends and I went to Hello Nori during a short trip to Vancouver. They had been before, but this was my first time. In fact this was my first time going to an exclusively hand roll bar. My group filtered in at around 3pm. Surprisingly even at an odd time of the day, the bar was packed and we had to wait for about 30 minutes. With that said, the bar only seats 30 people max (maybe less). There are no tables, just three long and tall counters put together to form a square with the wall around the chefs. Service was excellent. The server and chef were very friendly and informative. They give you a nice warm paper towel to clean your hands off before eating. They also took our coats and held them for us at the front. I wasn't super hungry at the time and so I ordered the salmon aburi sushi and a yellowtail hand roll using the paper card and pencil they provide at the table. You can tell that they value an eco-friendly environment food based on the modern, wooden interior decor and the menu that highlights which fish are sustainable. The server took our papers and then the sushi chefs behind the counter started making the rolls right in front of us. Nori, rice, fish, repeat. Most of my friends got the six piece hand roll and so it was quite a process. One of the chefs asked me which roll I got and I said the yellowtail. And she was like oh, I accidentally made a toro roll. This will be complimentary which was more than kind of her. So I ended up getting two rolls for the price of one. And if I'm honest; the toro roll was my favorite out of the sushi I ordered. The yellowtail was okay and the salmon aburi sushi was decent; I liked that the aburi sushi had salmon in the middle as well as on the top of the rice. The atmosphere is wonderful and the people are friendly. It's also not too loud nor too quiet. The ceiling is quite a show stunner with wooden cubes arranged in a geometric pattern creating an almost optical illusion. One thing I will note is that the bathroom doesn't lock properly. It took me a while to figure out why, but my friends and I discovered that the door was improperly installed. In fact, it was installed backwards which also explained the pull instead of push mechanism from the inside, even though the sticker says push. I'm visiting town and my friend who's from here said this place is always packed whenever she would pass by. We went on a Tuesday night around 7 pm and luckily got seated right away, though a queue formed after us shortly. I love a good hand roll bar and this restaurant has a sleek, bar interior that is typical for a place like this. I know my make-or-break is whether or not their fish and the nori wrap are fresh and turned out, they are! Hand rolls bank so much on the simplicity yet freshness of the ingredients and they were consistent in each item I ordered. You can opt for ala carte or the set menu but I did the former since I wanted to order the ebi and salmon tempura on the side. The toro, unagi, and truffle lobster hand rolls WERE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! And the aburi rolls were so gooood. I'm still drooling just by the thought of it. If I had more space, I would wanna get another one of those two. Service is also friendly and our total bill was justifiable. Hands down my favorite restaurant we visited in Vancouver! We came here for my birthday dinner and I was relieved to see that its a big bar you sit at with no true table server (I dodged the bullet of getting sang to!) While I like hand rolls, it's not usually my first choice when it comes to raw fish. I like nigiri, sushi and sashimi but will gladly chow down on some hand rolls. Our server was friendly and helpful, they went through the menu and told us about the specials of the day. We did the five hand roll special and salmon and shrimp aburi oshi sushi. The hand roll are made right in front of you, one at time so you can savor right away. They were all amazing.....from the first bite of toro to the last one of truffle lobster.....each hand roll was unique in it's own way and just melted in your mouth. aburi oshi sushi is made in the back and it was absolutely delectable.....it may be one of the best things I ate this year (and spoiler alert, I've eaten a lot!) Hello Nori is a very popular place located in Downtown Vancouver. Upon entering, the massive bar caught my attention followed by the stalactite-like wood rods that hung from the ceiling. That in itself was a performance in itself, an art installation if you must. Our server was incredibly attentive and answered all our questions down to the minute detail. To add to the experience our sushi chef was masterful at assembling each handroll. The handrolls were not served all at once to preserve freshness and timed perfectly. We had everything from eel, salmon, veggie and even the wagyu was awesome! They also offer beer, sake and various teas. We were serenaded throughout the evening by a variety of electronic music and certainly set the pace for happy mind and happy bellies. I cannot praise this place enough. What I thought was just square/rectangular shaped sushi (or what I interpreted it as) was a fantastic in restaurant experience. I decided to go for the 5 hand roll set which was the perfect amount for a hungry female with a moderate appetite. The service was prompt and attentive. The wait was about 10-15 minutes (Sunday at around 12pm). Each hand roll was delicious! My favorite would be the truffle lobster! My one con would be that food could be expensive for someone with a hearty appetite. My meal was $40 for 5 handrolls, a non alcoholic drink and tip (which they pre calculate for you). --- After this visit I did place an online order as well for delivery. They don't do the same hand rolls like in restaurant but they do sushi style hand rolls. I would say the delivery aspect makes them not quite as fresh (seaweed less crispy, protein less warm) and not as good. read more

Loved this concept! As someone who doesn't eat any seafood at all, I appreciate this omakase-like experience that I otherwise would never get. All the rolls are made in front of you and put directly on your plate one-by-one so the wait time is almost non-existent and they're extra yummy and crunchy having them so fresh! I came with 2 family members who said they enjoyed the fish and that's all I can really say about that part. Personally I ordered 4 of the avocado, 1 of the tamago and 1 of the pickled vegetables and i loved them all. I'm surprised how full I felt by the 5th roll too. The space and the staff definitely help make the experience feel extra luxe as well. The staff pour water into one of those compressed napkins for you to wipe your hands and the dishware is really aesthetic too. I was very impressed with the interior design and elegance of the setup. I ordered the 6 roll set which was $33 and the Nitro matcha which was $5. My friend ordered the white peach drink which was also $5 and a lychee cocktail for $8-10 (not on the menu). The handrolls were a bit different with the shape being a cylinder vs a cone. The quality of the fish was really good especially for the price. The yellow tail and scallop were really good. I was expecting the Toro to be my favourite but felt like there could have been a bit more in it. The drink was good, though I preferred the white peach. My sister spent all morning talking up this place called Hello Nori and convinced us to go there for lunch. I was mildly skeptical. I mean, how good could some hand rolls really be? Very good, it turns out. Because each hand roll is made to order, one by one in front of your eyes, the ingredients all stay fresh and provide distinct textures. The immediacy of service keeps the seaweed's bite, preventing it from getting soggied by the rice. The fillings are all delicately flavored; my personal favorites were the king salmon roll, scallop roll, and crab roll. But what I'm going to remember the most is the wasabi. This is not the common green dyed horseradish paste you get at any old sushi spot around here; this is the real deal. This wasabi is textured, earthy, and sweet. It buzzes against your tongue instead of punching through your entire nasal cavity. I must confess that I was eating the wasabi straight at points throughout the meal. We ended with mochi ice cream, which was pleasant but nothing to write home about, and the hot lemon water was a nice touch. Note that all seating is high top, bar style to give the hand roll chefs access to your spot. Each roll is generally between $5-10, and there are some good set menus that serve 4-6 rolls. To sum it up, it's the the freshness of the rolls and the earthiness of the wasabi that will have me coming back to say Hello, Nori again. read more

We shared the 6 handroll set and added 1 extra king salmon. All I can say is wow, it is all delicious. All the sushi just melts in the mouth and it is good quality fish. My top favorite is the king salmon and scallops. It is a bar seating only and it's about 20 seats around. They put partitions for each groups. I would have given this place a higher rating but for a few things - they have limited vegetarian options, portions are small, and their seating is bar (someone actually came in a wheelchair and had no where to sit). Quality is everything to this place. From the warm hand towels to wash your hands, to the chef coming over to introduce themselves! Service was beyond exceptional! I came to Hello Nori for the first time last night, and ended up waiting about 10 minutes (which was less than the quoted 20 minute way). They are known for their hand rolls, and they are fresh. I ordered the pickled vegetables, yellowtail, and toro. Delicious. Except for the pickled vegetables, the nori was crispy - a first! My dinner mate and I also shared a platter of sashimi, which for the night was $44. Very fresh. I found the wait staff and chefs to be attentive and quick. Also discovered why the turnaround time between seating was quick, the seats are not the most comfortable. It is definitely an in and out type of setting. But even so, the interior design is incredibly eye-catching and beautiful. I could gaze at their ceiling and the wooden cube in the foyer all night long. A definite recommend to raw fish connoisseurs. But be sure to dine in, as the experience isnt as impressive with takeout. read more
