Everything was delicious and fresh. Excellent and quick service. There are a few spots of complimentary parking downstairs. There is only one spot for large groups. We celebrated a birthday and received a scoop of ice cream, candle on top and a birthday song sung by our waiter.

Solid place for Korean-style Japanese food, Tom Sushi-esque. Came in for two at seven o'clock with no reservations and seated at the bar right away. They're on Open Table for resos btw. The place was packed on a Saturday night. Ordered: Assorted tempura, spicy tuna roll, Alaska roll and a special vegetable roll. Pros: - attentive service and food came out promptly - street parking is free on the residential streets north of broadway or right across from the hospital on oak street after six pm - vibes are cute and seating is spacious - solid food and well-priced

I really enjoyed my experience here. I ubered so I cannot say how parking is but currently the construction on the street makes it look like a mess. Once you enter it's nice though. I came here based on TikToks as I am not from Vancouver/Canada. The sushi was delicious. Everyone around us also looked really pleased with their meals. We weren't super hungry but ordered a couple of items. The meal is served with hot tea (unsweetened if that matters) which is nice for cold Vancouver. Maybe it was barley tea, but I can't be sure. We ordered the tuna tataki which was delicioussssss. The salad underneath was a little soaked in sauce/dressing but it was so good that I didn't mind. The fish was fresh and complimented well by the sauce and sesame seeds. I got the pressed salmon sushi. (Salmon jalapeno something). I also really like that. The shrimp inside could've been a tiny bit more crispy but other than that it was perfect. I would've ordered it twice if I was hungrier. My boyfriend go the volcano roll. He said it was ok but the cream cheese overwhelmed the fish flavor. I tasted the roll and liked the cream cheese addition. The fish was fresh and the sauce was good. It is a saucy roll though. Be warned if you don't like cream cheese or sauce heavy rolls. We finished with the chopped scallop roll. It might have been my favorite thing. Also it was only $7 for 8 pieces. It was delicious. Still saucy but I loved it. I would have 3 of them LOL. We were celebrating our anniversary so they brought us vanilla ice cream with matcha powder on top and a candle. It was really nice and delicious (especially for such a simple combination). The service was also great. The servers were attentive and also very nice.

Tozen Sushi Bar was a place I'd been recommended several times and it did not disappoint! It was definitely very busy on a Friday night so I was glad I booked ahead. The ambiance was lively and I enjoyed the lighting in the restaurant. I did find it a little bit hard to flag someone down to order since it was quite loud. My friend and I shared the mentaiko udon, a few types of sashimi and we each tried a cocktail. The mentaiko udon was flavourful and rich, and the mushrooms really tied it together (this is definitely on the better end of mentaiko udons I've tried!) The sashimi quality was also great and I particularly enjoyed the tuna While the matcha sour was definitely up my alley in terms of presentation, I found it a bit strong on the vodka taste and prefer something a bit sweeter. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and would probably come back if looking for a vibey Japanese spot I felt that the quality of everything I tried did match its pricepoint

Amazing sushi restaurant which is now one of my favorites. We couldn't get a reservation but they had space for walk in. We were celebrating a birthday so we ordered the house warm sake with gomae to start then ordered the Salmon jalapeño Aburi hako which is pressed salmon oishi w/ fried prawn inside, it was delicious. I had ordered it once before as take away but it tasted better at the restaurant. We also ordered red dainamaito fried prawn, avocado, cucumber w/ soy paper and spicy tuna on top..Also delicious as love rolls with soy paper. Then we ordered Hojicha Opera Cake for dessert which had black sesame, need I say more? A fabulous meal as definitely plan to go back frequently to try more items from their menu, the restaurant is very pretty also. Don't let the construction on West Broadway deter you as it's worth checking this out, it's a very popular restaurant as was packed on a weeknight.

If I could I would give this place a 3.5 based on the food and service I received. The decor is very chic and cool but still comfortable. We got some nigiris and the salmon jalapeno oshi. The best thing was the salmon jalapeno sushi. The nigiri is not where Tozen shines. The fish didn't taste the best. The best part was the fried shrimp head which isn't surprising considering they are known for their fried foods. Overall service was super nice and professional. Based on the nigiri, I didn't love it. But based on the oshi sushi only it was good. If you visit, only get their special rolls and oshis

Fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced given the quality. I've been to Tozen many times and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend making reservations as the restaurant can be very busy during dinner time!

Just had the most amazing early birthday dinner at Tozen Sushi Bar! The modern decor created a beautiful experience. The food? Absolutely outstanding! We indulged in: Ruby Spritz Mocktail (refreshing!) Warm & comforting Miso Soup Fresh Gomae Crispy Chicken Karaage Light & airy Prawn Tempura Explosive Tuna Bomb Delicious Maki Rolls (Salmon, Tuna, Tamago, Avocado) Flavorful Beef Yakiudon Sweet & savory Chicken Teriyaki with a bowl of rice Every dish was a delight! Highly recommend Tozen for any occasion. The staff is so attentive, I noticed every detail is thoughtful and mindful. Can't wait to go back!

Tozen Sushi Bar is a casual yet pretty fancy looking sushi restaurant in Fairview. Had a casual catch up with friends during weekdays and place was decently full. Tldr; it's a pretty nice place for good quality sushi that's still relatively affordable, with good options for both traditional and more fusion take on sushi. Beef Yaki Udon ($16) 5/10 A pretty standard soy based with beef, mushrooms, and onion. I did note that give pretty nice amount of topping but nothing memorable taste-wise. Negi Kanpa Hama ($24) 6.5/10 Negi hamachi and kanpachi, kani stick, avocado, and cucumber. Very light, bright taste. Good quality of fishes but for hamachi I think I like them better in nigiri. The Volcano ($23) 7/10 Spicy tuna, cream cheese, cucumber, and extra spicy tuna on the top. An unexpected favourite given how I don't usually enjoy cream cheese in my sushi, however they surprisingly added enough hot sauce to for the roll to feel 'spicy'.

Ambiance and environment was very warm and intimate. Staff were friendly and asked many times if we wanted a tea refill. Food was delicious and plated beautifully. Would come back again and recommend!

    Tuna bomb and aburi
    Lory P.

This surprisingly became one of my favourite sushi/Japanese restaurants in Vancouver. The atmosphere and decor was perfect for having an intimate dinner with friends and a great place to bring new visitors to Vancouver. We got the aburi sushi, tuna bomb, salmon dream, tuna tataki, karange, and a few more. Our favourite was definitely the aburi and tuna bomb. Aburi was perfectly prepared and loved the variety with tempura shrimp inside. The tuna bomb was a great mix of texture with the crispy rice and savoury tuna. Service was a bit slow although it was a packed restaurant the night we went, but everyone was kind and welcoming. Only thing I would say is that they only had one dessert option so we opted for dessert elsewhere.

What we had was generally good, but also I thought to myself that each item was quite small, and hard to share evenly among the 7 people there. A number of guests were disappointed the restaurant only served beer and wine, and couldn't mix drinks. Service was good enough - friendly and interactive but nothing outstanding. I didn't pay for this meal, so it was fine. But I don't think I would be rushing back because it's quite expensive for small portions.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.
