    A solid 4 stars for this unique sushi experience! Food is of good quality and you can also tell the Sushi Chef put in his heart to prepare every dish in front of your eyes! This style of hand roll gives you the experience of tasting the nori in its most crispy state, once the Chef had all the ingredients wrapped up in the toasted nori, the guest then take it within a minute of two, the crispness of the nori is at its peak! On top of that the service is super friendly and our server was so nice to help us with ordering and explain the different types of rolls etc. Ambiance is relaxed and cheerful as the Chef also interacts with the guest! Paid street parking is available.

    My friends and I made reservations for Oshi Nori through Open Table, and it was a seamless process. We were a group of 13, and Oshi Nori only offers a max reservation of 6 people, so we made two reservations, and Oshi Nori was able to seat us all together! I ordered the 5 Oshi Nori rolls set, aburi scallop, truffle edamame, miso soup, and cherry blossom cocktail, and everything tasted phenomenal! The Oshi Nori rolls set was delicious, and my favorite out of the 5 rolls is the king salmon handroll; the salmon was so buttery and fresh. Also, the size of each handroll was HUGE, very hefty, and it was not filled with a lot of rice either. The scallop handroll was also amazing, and I loved how buttery the scallops were, too. The cherry blossom cocktail was strong but sweet, paired well with my meal! I would say the service can be improved as most of our friends received their sets before my friend and I did. However, I did like that we were able to pay individually as every single one of us ordered something different! I would definitely come back here next time for handrolls!

    I came for lunch from one of my former boss. He suggested this place and it somewhat reminded me of Nori. Same concept. They make the sushi in front of you. You basically sit around the chef and watch him prepare the food. Oshi Nori is located in Yaletown on Mainland street. Food quality was good. The seaweed could be a bit crispier. I got the 5 oshi nori roll set and I ordered one extra. I also go to sunomono to start. The food was all freshly made. Everything tasted good. This place is quite unique they do like to put mint leaf in their nori.

    Decided to do a late lunch for Valentine's Day here, and it did not disappoint! Got some miso soup, an order of salmon sashimi, one set of the 5 original rolls + one set of 5 special rolls (they even cut it in half for me & boyfriend to share--how nice!), and a couple of lychee martinis (they have happy hour). I enjoyed all of it. The fish was fresh, and I enjoyed the toppings on the special rolls. It was presented beautifully. Great service as well! The space was clean and modern. We left very full and happy that it did not break the bank.

    We came on a Wednesday and were happily surprised it was 1/2 off Sake! Yippee! We were on a 20th anniversary road trip and wanted some good sushi. Luckily, we found this gem! There is a big island inside that surrounds the chefs, so it was fun to watch as we ate. All the fish we had was fresh, expertly cut, and packed with flavor. Yaletown is a great area, but be aware this place gets packed so you may want to get a reservation. If we are traveling through again, we will return!

    One reason that I chose to dine at Oshi Nori was that it made dining alone very easy as everyone just had a seat at the bar. They are known for their hand rolls but it felt like it had a significant Western fusion rather than being authentic. I got the 4 rolls basic set and thought it was only okay. The rolls weren't anything special, and I also thought that the fish could have been more fresh. I did like that you could see the chef making your food and the rolls came one at a time at good intervals allowing me to enjoy and savour the taste in between the offerings.

    I have been to similar hand roll restaurants before, but I noticed some of the rolls at this new place looked different from others. I wanted to try this new hand roll restaurant located in Yaletown. The restaurant has a very stylish ambiance, and there is only a sushi counter, not tables. The sushi chef serves each customer's order one by one. We ordered several Oshi Nori hand rolls and basic rolls, including a set and individual rolls. I highly recommend the Oshi Nori rolls, which are their signature dish. They were beautifully presented with rice on the bottom and sashimi with toppings, just like sushi tacos. The nori was very crispy and flavorful. My favorites were the Aburi Scallop, King Salmon, Yellowtail, and Aburi King Salmon. The basic rolls were good too, especially the bluefin tuna, which was great. From the appetizers, I ordered the Shakemaki Negitoro, which was just awesome. The negitoro was rolled in salmon sashimi, and it was really delicious. The service was attentive and friendly, and they explained the details of the menu. However, I noticed that only one sushi chef was working around 5 PM. After the busy time, an additional chef started working. As a result, the sushi was served a bit slower than I expected, but I understood that there was only one chef at that time. Overall, we all loved this restaurant. We will definitely be back to try different items on the menu.

    Found this little gem in Yaletown, Vancouver, BC...rather unobtrusive and tucked away between more heavily advertised restaurants. We were welcomed and seated at a bar/diner style setup typical of Sushi bars. The place was near empty on a Sunday afternoon which was just fine for us.The waiters/waitresses were extremely friendly - good kids from Ireland and Brazil. Spect out stay chatting with them. Had Miso soup, Truffle Edamame, and various Roll sets and Donburis. Wagyu Beef, Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Scallops...all beautifully crafted by the Sushi master chefs. Topped off the meal with smooth Sake... Food and service were excellent; meal for four with a bottle of Sake and tip set us back $175 (US). Worth every penny! A must visit while in Yaletown.

    Came for an early dinner with the family and we each had a set, which was honestly not quite enough for me personally but could be if you're a small eater. I find it difficult to give Oshi Nori any more accolades given its characteristic normalcy to all other Vancouver joints. They're not really selling food or extreme quality (let alone quantity) - rather you dine here for the "experience". An omakase taco hand roll experience that neither dazzles in terms of originality nor quality. One of the pluses is that prices aren't too bad if you're not choosing their premium options. If not, you're spending at least 1 set menu's worth and a few extra rolls for $50-60. Unfortunately, this "experience" may end up being just a fad and I expect to start seeing Happy Hour menus start up just to stay in business - especially in Yaletown.

    What a great meal!! The space so darn comfy and so cute. I got some hand rolls and some aburi was so fresh, which is what I was looking for!! Chef and the guy who introduced the food is so nice. I love this restaurant so much, everything was very flavorful and delicious.

    My husband and I stopped in after an early dinner because our first dinner wasn't too filling, and we needed a little something extra. We happened to be walking by and just decided to go here on a whim, because it looked promising. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. It was 8 PM on a Tuesday, and they told us it would be a 10 minute wait, which was accurate. Once inside, they'll explain the menu to you and give you a paper menu and pencil for you to tick off the items that you want. It's a sushi counter with about 20 seats and only two people making sushi. We instantly regretted coming here after we put in our order, because there were so many people who had orders ahead of us, and we were only getting a few things. But I have to say, they are pretty efficient with it - they'll group orders by who's getting what so if there are 5 people ordering the same roll, they make it all at once. Still, I think they could use an extra set of hands. Since I'm pregnant, I had to opt for the cooked rolls, so I did the lobster and snow crab. Both tasted very similar and had way too much mayo, and reminded me of canned tuna. For the price, I don't think it was worth it. Hubby had set menu of 4 Oshi Nori rolls (spicy bluefin, negitoro, king salmon, and aburi scallop). He said they were just okay. Overall, not worth the wait for sushi that is mid.

    This is a cozy sushi bar with all the action in the center where sushi and donburi is made right in front of us! Everything we had was delicious including the delicious curated sunomono and the most flavorful green tea. My favorite hand roll were the scallops done 2 different ways: Hokkaido and Asburi! Highly recommend this restaurant!

    Tasty spot for Japanese food and sushi in Yaletown! I got the lychee martini ($15) and the 5 oshi nori roll set menu ($36). Loved how fresh the fish tasted and the crispy nori. I would describe this as a nigiri sushi on top of seaweed. The spicy lobster, negitoro and aburi king salmon were my favorite. The unagi and king salmon were both good too. We still felt hungry after the set menu so ordered the spicy bluefin roll. Fish was tasty but the spicy sauce was a little too overwhelming on top.

If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

The unlimited rice/soup/cabbage is just icing on the cake. My dining partner had the Kake udon (pretty good, noodles good texture and slightly smaller strands than most places) and Menchi Cheese side - basically a pork meatball with cheese and deep fried katsu-style, served with katsu sauce. This was excellent. My original review still stands. Excellent katsu, plus they have the consistency and reliability. $28-30/meal and its plenty of food for 1, especially with unlimited cabbage/rice/soup. Restaurant is nice and comfortable, good spacing and not cramped. Easy recommend. 5/5.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.
