Having joined as a "member" the concept seems great... which it is until you have to deal with the human element and not knowing who the hell is going to come to your home. Without eating more of my time I will say to the YELP community, spend a little more time and hire a professional or experienced expert to have your work done, unlike UBER these installers can have zero experience and you cannot see their experience level or feedback from prior jobs. Since I don't know their hiring practices, be aware anyone could be showing up. Since, I have gotten a little lazy, I don't mind paying people to do some of these simple tasks, like install a Nest Doorbell or TV mounts. I will be brief: Ordered three TV mounts to be installed which I purchased at Costco, simple and straight forward. First installer wasted a day of mine as he was a no show and called a few times with excuses. Then he rescheduled himself for the next day but wanted me to pay him direct with Venmo.. odd? well I rolled with it but again a no show the next day but I found out he marked the job completed, total dick move like no one was going to find out ! So investing more of my time, had to tell HelloTech the installed never showed up but they billed me $218 for each mounting Job when it was supposed to be $69.00, I know I can disputed my CC if needed but just wanted the OLED TV's 77", 65" and 65" mounted so continued as it is a two person job. After wasting more of my time, finally got the no show taken care of and new installer showed up on time the day promised, yeah!... only to find he had no idea how to measure, hang a TV correctly, and did not have the correct tools like a F'ing stud finder. After doing his exploratory drilling looking for wood like 30 holes, I lent him a stud finder and other tools and showed him how to hang a TV, not his fault, HelloTech needs to train expert level people. The kid spent 7 hours trying his best but after redoing some of his work we got it done, correctly but I have some wall repair to do. This should have been a 2-3 hour job max. They were also going to install cable concealment boxes but they only had 1 1/2 pieces when on site, but I won't even go there, I will do it myself. After another 20 minutes got the billing issue resolve I think, and I will say their customer service reps on the phone are quick and efficient... I wish I had read these reviews before booking a shoddy tv mounting service for $340+. TV Mounting Experience: an inexperienced technician came out and spent 3+ hours trying to mount our 55 inch tv over the fireplace and conceal the associated wires. In the end, the tv was not centered and the technician told us that it was not possible due to stud placement. This was completely inaccurate- another repairman who came to help us install our thermostat noticed the TV askew and promptly told us that the mount used was super cheap and meant for smaller TVs. A rectangular bracket would allow for centering of the TV, which was never offered to us by Hello tech. Now, let's talk about the concealed wiring, completely unnecessary routing of the TV wires has led to the Sheetrock being exposed after removing the wire encasements. There was a random screw left in the wall that was half out. The mantle was completely dusty post screwing of multiple holes (never used). I'm all for giving new technicians a chance, but not if it results in such shoddy results. I also hate being taken advantage of! Technicians shouldn't lie to customers saying the TV can't be centered. Just admit that you don't have the proper mount handy and you have to reschedule. Customer service: I tried so hard to give Hellotech the benefit of the doubt by calling and emailing frequently since 1/11/22 but I kept receiving the same generic response that it was a "level 2 escalation" and a representative would reach out to me in 24-48 hours. Given that it is 1/29/22, this is clearly not the case. I don't know what to do at this point. I keep asking for a refund, but I've found this entire experience distressing. BUYER BEWARE!!! The first time I used this place, they kept telling me the repairman was on his way. He didn't show up for over three hours and after they repeatedly called him and woke him up. Then, they hide boilerplate language and I kept getting billed $19.99 a month which wasn't clear at all in the costs. It's hidden somewhere and they wouldn't cancel it when I told them I'd never seen that language and wouldn't have signed up if I had. So, I scheduled another service since I was already paying and it got set for 2/10 and then rescheduled. It was rescheduled for 3:00 2/12 and I came home early and no repair person showed up for two hours now. I called and was told they need to cancel and reschedule yet again. They rescheduled for 5-8 pm today. I asked if someone would definitely be here then and the rep said not necessarily. I said then why did I just get an email saying the appointment is rescheduled between 5-8 today. I asked to speak to a manager and they said no one was available. I asked where to leave a review on their site where they claim all these great reviews and was told I have to email them. This business seems like a scam to me. We used this company to mount our tv and the work done by the contractor was so bad that he had to come a second time to fix his mistakes. The day he said he would return, he called to reschedule because something had come up. We reached out to customer service and we were told that he would finish the work. He dry patched the wall that he messed up but still needed to come back to grind and paint over it and finish the installation of the cords. This was two weeks ago and now we have someone new here. They are telling us they can't do anything with the patch work. Now, we have to come out of pocket again to find someone to do the work. I contacted Hello Tech to help me with my Google Nest Doorbell, which they gladly accepted the work on April 6th, 2023. A technician was assigned to arrive at my home on Friday, April 7th at 9:00. At 8:30, received a text informing me that the technician would not be able to come, another technician was assigned and was expected to arrive between 2:00 and 5:00pm, well that was a no show too. Third time's a charm right, technician was supposed to arrive at noon the next day, well he/she was a no show too! I checked my bank account, they tried to take money out of my account for services not rendered!! Had to go to the bank and cancel that transaction and change my debit card because they had the card on file. Unfortunately, my experience with HelloTech was not a good one. I needed help setting up my Roku stick so that sound would run through my AVR. The "tech" who came out was extremely nice but clearly had no experience with my particular issue. When he started Googling how to do it, I knew I was in trouble. To his credit, he didn't try to BS me. After an hour, he admitted he couldn't figure it out. Today, I had a tech from another company come out and he had it all set up in 20 minutes. He knew exactly what to do. I fault HelloTech for not properly vetting their techs and I fault the tech, too, much as I liked him personally, for accepting the job when it was clearly something he didn't know how to do. Very disappointed. Can't believe TARGET recommends them for their installs. The good is they came on the date they were supposed too. The bad is they did not install my TV correctly and I feel like they knew it and didn't care. He turned the screen on to show me it worked before he left, and couldn't wait to leave. Hours of frustration later (since I could not get any of my CABLE channels); I noticed a wire was not plugged in in the back of my TV. Then I see the TV is defective as the wire can not be plugged in. Your technician knew this and never said anything! He just left the wire hanging! Then he just had me sign and left. Tech came out and installed best thermostat. In the notes he advised that everything was working fine (besides fan). Just recently we went to put on the heat due to how cold it has been. The heat is not working (it did prior to their installation). I emailed with there customer service department who were not helpful at all. They stated I am 1 week out of my free follow up window and are refusing to help at all! He did the install with confidence and completed the project quickly. He walked me through the Ring app to get everything up and running. Ben gets 5 stars. I knocked off a star because the communications between the company and the technician was not so good. Had a great experience fixing my computer using HelloTech. I contacted HelloTech online 3 days ago explaining that I needed more space on my desktop hard drive. The technician went online with me (amazon.com) and helped me pick out a suitable internal hard drive for my desktop so it would be here for the home service tech to install. Rey Puente, a HomeTech service tech arrived 2 days later to install it. When it became clear that the box was missing the cable needed to hook-up my new hard drive... Rey went waay above & beyond by offering to go over to Best Buy, to get the missing cable I needed (I paid for it). This experience was extraordinary. I needed a new hard drive, it took 2 days to arrive from Amazon, & Rey arrived the next day to install it. What a GIANT waste of time (2 hrs). Their reviews must be fake as the first encounter I had with this company/ service resulted in a technician whose level of expertise was worse than mine. I could have googled or called NEST customer service and tried to do this myself....but that's cost me a lot of money in the past trying to play electrician / hvac repair guy. I don't want to rag on the guy as the company should be responsible for sending qualified people to do the job right. The tech was CLUELESS. For example: Initially asked what all the wires are for? (For real dude?). Tried to install the backplate backwards and was bending the metal and causing damage to the wall. Was working with the wires with the power turned on (this is how you fry the motherboard)- had to tell him to turn the fuse off "oh yah, that's a good idea." Didn't match motherboard terminal wires to see where the wires were originating from. Tried random ways of trial and error with the wires making me extremely nervous as they can't be hooked up incorrectly. Throughout the process he seemed like he had no idea what he was doing. Hooked up the old thermostat the wrong way and had to re wire it. Forgot to include the bridge so the ac was actually the heat...Just to name a few. Here's the bonus: When you call to discuss the issues that you had with the tech- you get connected to a call center in a foreign country ( Philippines I think). The worst tech service ever. I paid $79 for a tech to hook up a printer to my computer. Guy left after 30 mins stating all of my equipment was broken...?? I have new computer I wanted hooked to my printer. (Josue H.) guys investigates and plugs my cables in that I had already laid out for him at that point. He connected the printer I had on a switch and said it's not working. To cut to the chase he said the switch (a brand new switch) was bad because he hooked up the printer properly. So I said ok fine, went and pulled another switch from another system (working properly because I wanted to be sure it was just a switch before he left and everything connected fine). He replaces the "broken switch" with the replacement I brought and same result. He says both switches are broken! At this point it's beyond clear to be the guy doesn't know what he's doing, & I'm beyond bothered by the guy so I just say ok connect the printer to the computer so I know it's still just the switches. He does so. Still no luck. He inspects for about 2 minutes then says he believes the printer is broken. I say no Sir. All I did was move it from one part of the room to the other. It worked fine just a couple of days ago. Then he tells me he believes we damaged the connection port on the printer when moving it. So there is nothing he can do to fix it of make it work. I was floored. The guy was there not even 30 mins and couldn't identify my issue (I apparently have 2 bad switches and a bad printer that were all working fine 2 days ago) & I'm out my $79. It's evident HelloTech does do its due diligence on validating neither knowledge nor know-how. Instead of trying to save $20 from Best Buy's $99 geek Squad visit I know wish I have paid the extra $20 & had my PC+printer connection back up today. The guy was literally siding out of my place to escape the situation when it became obvious he didn't know what he was doing. I was totally ripped off. But honestly I'm not angry - more so we are bewildered and befuddled by the whole experience and all we can do is laugh awkwardly about the situation...at least right now. Just had worst experience ever with this company. Made appt for 11:00 today to change computer from old one to new one. At 11:15 a young man comes to house driving his personal little car. No truck no company IDs. No supplies, not even a briefcase you would expect repair tech to have. He came in and looked at my unit and said I needed a cord to install new computer. He said he would run to Target and get cord. I said I would pay him for it. He left and not 5 min later called and stated he was cancelling the appointment and would not do the job I had already paid for. If I could give negative stars I would. Long story short, they charged IN ADVANCE for services not completed. They emailed a refund was being credited 15 days ago and still no refund. Their tech put 24 sensors in the wrong locations, didn't clean the surfaces prior to installation ( so the sensors all fell off), was totally inexperienced, dressed like a bum in stained holey sweat pants (which was the least of the issues). We were so upset we returned the entire alarm system the same date of install due to Hello Tech being completey incompetent. Complete waste of our time. Find another company. I need my TV mounted in my new apartment plus my WiFi isn't working due to equipment on my end. I called HelloTech. Before I even got an appointment they sold me a "Plan" to cut costs in the future. My bad. Never do that. Then they said they would send someone the next day. The next day I asked the security in our new high rise building to send him up when he arrives and they told me that they need his liability insurance and appointment needs to be made through property management. My bad again. I called the technician and apologized. Then I called HelloTech to explain what was needed. That took forever...lost in translation. They told me to send the building's instructions to support@hellotech.com. I did. Right away I did. Crickets. So I call again (which by the way takes forever to get to a live person.) I'm losing patience. After a frustrating conversation they told me they could do it. Two days later I hear from the original technician that he'll be here the next day at noon. That time comes and he calls and tells me he'll be two hours late. OK whatever. When he arrives security calls me to say that he doesn't have an approved appointment, there's no insurance info on file and I'm back to zero. I want the 5 days this has taken back please. I just called them again (an experience I do not recommend) to be sure the money they charged me in advance will be refunded. Scheduling an appointment was ridiculous and communication took 2-3 days. I never got a fixed appointment time...the technician just showed up.
