Stopped by HellsBBq on saturday for a quick lunch while we were in the area. I had the special MFV baked potato with brisket. It was amazing, juicy and the tater was baked perfect. My wife has the pulled pork baked potato and it was also perfect. We loved it so much saturday that we went back sunday and were greeted with more specials. This time i had the brisket mac n cheese bites and they were also very tasty and tasted out of this world. My wife had the arremcheda tacos and the were very flavorful and delicious.

In from out of town. We have friends in Oswego. Situated on the end of a strip. It's only open on the weekends right now, but they are working on more hours. The staff was super welcoming and super nice. Even got a sample of the brisket while we waited. We got a pound of rib tips, a pound of brisket and a pound of chicken tips. Along with two containers of Mac n Cheese. The brisket is really good. The serving we got had a decent amount of fat. But very good. The bark on it was great. The chicken was good. Not a huge fan of the rib tips. The mac n cheese was AMAZING!!! Super homemade and super delicious! I would go back just for that!! The two bbq sauces were good. The mild was basic and the spicy had a little zing. It's kinda of pricey. But most bbq is I guess.

Rib tips smash burger Brisket grilled cheese

Food was excellent! Smash burgers sooo good. Great seasoned fries. Great brisket grilled cheese. Love the original sauce. Great quality ribs tips. My wife really enjoyed the brisket egg roll. I thought it was good but she loved it. Very friendly staff. We will be back for sure.

    Burnt/Dry rib tips!

the brisket was tender, good smoked flavor, could use some seasoning and it was kinda pricey for the 1/2 lb. The pulled pork, was seasoned very well but very dry, ribs tips were dry as hell like bark, no flavor. Jalapeño Cheddar sausage very juicy and fresh! I ordered online but still waited about 20 minutes, they were packed! My over all bill with tax was $70. Way too expensive for the amount of food we got

For a BBQ place they have an unusual menu - no brisket, no chicken breasts or thighs and no pulled meat on the main menu. What they do have is several fish and seafood options and their pork rib tips are served with either turkey ribs (turkey chunks?) or chicken sausage, neither of which I've seen before. I think there were just two people working when I was there: one in the kitchen and a sibling of L and J at the register. I was the only dine-in customer and the ambiance is barebones with checkered plastic tablecloths, diner-style chairs and only one printed menu at the register. Several specials were on chalk boards and it was "Soul Food Saturday" but I did not try their collared greens or other specials which did include a half chicken that I wish was on the main menu. The BBQ is solid but one hour away Chicago has nothing to worry about. The meat is tender and flavorful and the chicken sausage was delicious but seasoned with a bit too much rosemary. One disappointment was that the meat came covered in a semi-sweet BBQ sauce and there was none on the table and no option for a mustard, vinegar-based or other sauce, so I hope you're satisfied with exactly what you're given. While I was there I was given a sizable side of their tender pot roast and roasted vegetables. Both were excellent. Overall I think you will be very pleased if not blown away.

To make matters worse, the sides are incredibly small. When our sides arrived, they were served in tiny Styrofoam cups and contained no more than two tablespoons of food. It is definitely not worth the price. My husband, son, and my mother ordered the ribs, they were good but a bit, tough and dry. I ordered the beef brisket, a huge disappointment, it consisted of just four slices of thinly cut meat. I understand that the cost of food has gone up and the aftermath of Covid has really changed restaurant prices and quantity. But come on don't insult me by giving the bare minimum. For a small town BBQ joint you are charging Chicago prices with absolutely no extras.

The South Moon is a casual room packed with vintage and antique toys of all things. So many joints…read moredecorate their rooms with antique junk-it's a simple theme that almost always works. TOYS, as a theme catches your eye and your fancy, and provides a sense of comfort, really. If you're of a certain age, you HAD some of these pieces when you were a kid. I certainly did. But what links Toys, Bourbon and BBQ, I have no idea. Perhaps if you hit some fine pre-prandial herb it might make sense. I can remember that state of mind from my hippie days, and I think I may be on to something. The Q here is superb, at prices that will make you clean your glasses to make sure you saw it correctly. The perfectly-seasoned rib rack is HUGE (see photo below), with the right amount (and right flavor) of smoke. The pulled pork and brisket is the same quality. The sauces taste home-made and if you like it HOT, the ghost-pepper variety will not disappoint. Someone in this kitchen knows what they are doing. There are a few miscues (not enough to put me off my feed, but I report it all nonetheless): The Slaw is a little underseasoned. Hit it with some salt and it's great. The vaunted "spicy potato salad" isn't exactly a "must-have", I'd stick with the regular "mustard-style" tater-salad. There's a pulled Chicken which I haven't tried yet, but there isn't a bone-in BBQ chix option. I'll bet they'd knock it out of the park if there was one. And then there's the bar. A heroic variety of Bourbons, and the guy who curates the collection (I think his name is Phil) really knows his stuff inside and out, even if he looks more like a farmhand than a Bourbon Sommelier. They also have a smashing selection of Irish Whiskies. Note Bene: Make sure you have a designated driver. Trust me. In and amongst the toys, all this great booze is offered for sale. They also have a variety of THC-infused beverages on the menu. With this excellent Q, the mind boggles. Plus...toys. As far as Circuses, the service is homey and efficient, with sports on the TV, and picnic tables as a seating choice. A fine feed indeed, and it doesn't do that bad of damage to your pocketbook. We've always wanted to find a place that was in the same league as the Q joints found in the South, and I think we hit on a winner here. Worth the drive, that's for sure. Epilogue: Here's the wicked pissah: For a while, South Moon was open not more than a mile from Stately Breakwind Manor, here in the far southwest Chicago Burbs; in a building that until recently never had a winner in it. We didn't go 'cos we didn't like the building (idiots,we). If you take a look through Yelp for this region most every Q stop is compared to South Moon-believe them.

Unfortunately, both sandwiches were very dry and did not appear to have been dipped as requested. I asked my server, Alexis H., for a small cup of Italian beef juice so I could add it to my sandwich since it was so dry. She informed me that I would have to purchase the juice for an additional 25 cents. I explained that I did not feel I should have to pay extra because the sandwich was not prepared the way I requested. She insisted that the sandwich had been dipped and that I would still have to pay for the juice. I then spoke with the manager and showed her the sandwich so she could see how dry it was. Rather than acknowledging my concern or offering to correct the problem, she also told me that Alexis had already dipped the sandwich and that I would have to pay the additional 25 cents for the juice. Ultimately, I paid the 27 cents after tax, but the cost was not the issue. What disappointed me was the way the situation was handled. Neither the server nor the manager apologized, acknowledged that I was dissatisfied with my meal, or made any attempt to correct the problem. I was not asking for anything unreasonable or trying to get something extra for free. In fact, I could have asked for both sandwiches to be remade, but instead I simply asked for a small amount of beef juice so I could enjoy the meal I had already purchased. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how those mistakes are handled. Charging a regular customer 25 cents rather than making a simple effort to resolve a legitimate concern was extremely disappointing and demonstrated very poor customer service. I have been a loyal customer and visited this location regularly, but this experience has made me seriously reconsider returning. I hope management reviews this situation and uses it as an opportunity to improve how customer concerns are handled in the future.
