I was in the mood for BBQ and was deciding on where to go. This place came to mind as I was in the area and had been here a few years ago (and had a great meal!) so decided to give this place another try. This time I got a 2-meat combo with a small side. I opted for brisket and pulled pork for my meat and Mexican Street Corn (Elotes) for my side. Soon after it came out (fast service for sure!) and I added to the meat one of three different BBQ sauces (sweet). Oh man this hit the spot. The meat was tender and flavorful, the BBQ sauce added so much to it. And the Mexican Street Corn was also on point with the right amount of mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, and spices. Disappointed in Doc Watsons. Ribs were dry. "Burnt" ends were just cut up chunks of brisket heavily sauced. Missing the Cole slaw and when I called they said there was nothing they could do about it. Never going back. read more

Passing through on a trip home from Chicago, we decided to stop for lunch at Doc Watson's. Clean restaurant and friendly staff. Food was very good. We both ordered the pick 2 which came with 1 side. Added the cornbread (very tasty). The brisket, turkey and sausage were delicious. The street corn was probably my favorite item but all were good. We got the sampler platter. More than enough for 2. Brisket was great! Brought the pulled pork, smoked sausage home for a meal tomorrow.

After an assembly in the area I was searching for some bbq. We were very happy with finding Doc Watson's. Ordering was quick and easy. My mom and I ordered a cornbread muffin, Mac and cheese and baby back ribs. What came out was some of the biggest juiciest slabs of baby backs I can remember. I flipped the slab over to cut it as it was just one massive connected slab of meat still. I really liked the sauces but honestly the meat didn't require any sauce as it was so tender and flavorful all on its own. The Mac and cheese was good too. Next time I'd like to try the brisket or one of the 3 plate combos. It was a nice chill environment and good came out really fast! Can't wait to come back next time I'm in town! read more

Was in town for work and really wanted to give this place a second chance, and glad I did because it was much better. I got the 3 meat platter - turkey, pulled chicken, smoked pastrami, and Texas green beans for both sides very good. Smoked pastrami was a 10/10 super tender and excellent flavor and bark on the outside. Turkey was a 8.5/10, super moist and not dry at all with good flavor. Pulled chicken was a 7/10, not bad but nothing spectacular here. Texas green beans were a 9/10, really flavorful and the bacon pieces were a nice touch. First off I forgot to take pictures but the food was served on metal trays with a parchment liner. It looked and smelled amazing. The taste was very good. They had a spicy and a sweet bbq I liked them mixed together. I got ribs and brisket both were tender and ribs were fall off the bone. My son got smoked chicken wings and brisket. He said the chicken didn't have much flavor and he only got three so that was kind of a bummer for him. Restaurant was clean and had good classic rock playing. The young lady at the counter wasn't overly friendly but wasn't rude. She answered our questions and at least didn't seem too annoyed . I would definitely recommend giving this place a try especially if you want a sit down place that's fairly quick. The Texas nachos looked amazing but it was 2 1/2 pounds of meat, chips, beans, Queso and toppings. Will definitely be back to give those a try when I visit the area again and have a larger party to share with. read more

This place should be great. They have a classic line up of bbq food and it's ok but nothing special. We've been a few times. Each about the same. Brisket being the stand out here. Thick cut. Juicy. Flavorful. Good corn bread too. Biggest gripe, cold food. Seriously we waiting forever for our bbq to come out and when it did, a couple things felt like they just came out of the fridge. Like the sausage and beans. Even the bacon candy or pig candy was cold. Not room temp. Like they just pulled it out of the cooler. The other problem was the quality and portions. Between the group of us eating, half of us got the same thing. 2 meat combo. But you wouldn't have first that by looking at it. Some got tiny over cook ribs while others got regular sized decent ones. Same with fry portions. One looked like a small. The other supersized large! Nice decor. Plenty of parking. Easy to get too. Stopped by this BBQ joint while passing through, and it was a letdown. The brisket barely had a smoke ring and was far from tender--required a knife to cut through it, and the fat was the kind you push aside. The Mexican street corn tasted like it came straight from a can, no effort there. Wouldn't recommend unless you're desperate. read more

Was doing work at the building and couldn't help myself to get some food at the end of my day. Ordered the Pastrami sandwich. Easily one of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had in a long time. Pulled pork - 5/5 delicious, not overly fatty. The sweet bbq sauce seems it is vinegar based but it doesn't overpower the flavor. I love the sauce with it! Mac and cheese - 3/5 way too thick and pasty. It tastes good but not a must for me. Monster beans - delicious. Has a nice Smokey sweet flavor, good consistency. Their website ordering is difficult. Have carried out several times. Always very good with a great smoky flavor. Baby back ribs are not fall off the bone, but still very tender and flavorful. The only negative is there is no sauce on any of the meats, but that is noted in the menu. I would definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

Took a hiatus from restaurants for about 5 months while I was on a much-needed weight-loss break. Now, I'm back (but at a less frequent pace, keeping my numbers in line with where they should be). I really missed Doc Watson's though, and have been anticipating my return. Went first for my favorite, the Wednesday special Reuben. Same great smokiness as before, it brought back some wonderful memories (I used to go there every 2-3 weeks). Unfortunately, though, they now charge 3-1/2% extra to use a credit card. They didn't even bother mentioning this, otherwise I could have paid cash. I suppose it may be on a sign that I wasn't looking for. It wasn't until I noticed it on my receipt while enjoying my sandwich (and almost entering another very positive review), that made the whole experience turn sour. Too bad. read more

Had high hopes for this place. Walked in and enjoyed the decor. Not exceptionally clean. No one was there but several tables needed to be wiped down. Two girls at the counter. Neither were welcoming or even smiling. Didn't seem like they wanted to be there. Now let's get to the food. Portions were ok however the meats were very very salty. Now I expected this place to have great sides. Smokehouses always do. Especially Mac n cheese. Took one bite of the Mac n cheese and honestly thought it was a mistake and they forgot the cheese. There was absolutely no taste. It was dry white noodles. On to the corn muffins. Good taste but very dry and crumbly. Not fresh and it was cold and no butter. I love some good barbecue, solid spot in the romeoville area (not much competition lol) All meats are smoked with barbecue sauces on the side. They offer 2 kinds spicy and sweet. I prefer the sweet, its self serve on the side. Not bad if your looking for a quick barbecue fix. Here's what i tried: Pig Candy 3/5 Decent but it's bacon, who doesn't love bacon, slighty sweet, served cold. Would be much better a little sweeter and hot. Texas Potato Salad 1/5 Bland Made with string potatoes no seasoning at all, will not order again Brisket Chilli 2.5/5 Just ok, tomato based, really chunky, nice bits of tomato, brisket, and various beans. Smoke Sausage 4/5 Best thing I've had here so far. Moist, flavorful, don't even need sauce. Nice snap with bite but not chewy at all very good. Pulled Pork 4/5 Moist and succulent to important factors with smoked pork. This does both good without sauce. Ribs 3/5 Average, nice char, good smoke ring, not chewy which is good. Would try the rib tips next time. I may be becoming a tip fan over ribs. Brisket 3.5/5 Smoked well, a little fat gives it a more savory taste, add some barbecue sauce makes it 4/5. Talk about a hidden gem, tucked away in Bolingbrook, IL about 45 min south of Chicago. Hungry with a long drive to Peoria ahead of me, I yelped BBQ places along the route. This place, singled out by many for excellent food, caught my attention. MAAAAAAAN THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! I loved the rib tips and bbq ribs but the star here was the CANDIED BACON. Yum Yum Yum for the Tummy Tum Tum. If you like bacon you'll love this sweet and zesty concoction. Surprisingly they served thick and meaty bacon slices. Literally you could get your fill from 3-4 slices. The staff here was suuuuper friendly. I miss the days were folks cared about their customers. This place takes me back to those days. Let me start and finish by saying the same thing...damn fine chili and smoked pastrami! This is the kind of place that's just hard enough to navigate to that your elderly parents will have at least a solid five minutes of arguing over where to turn in...and yet still end up in the wrong parking lot. However when you arrive, you'll immediately get the sense that the world is almost normal again... ...except the owner is an Irishman from Boston who lost his accent but found a passion for smoking meats and labels it Central Texas barbecue. If that's not confusing enough for you, consider how many times you've walked into a Mexican restaurant and ordered lasagna served up by an Indian. But it works.
