What a great experience we had here. We were doing the Laurel Highlands Pour Tour. We stopped by and was confused at first. When you walk in, the main entrance is where you do the tastings at. I walked around and didn't see anything at first. However Dave greeted us. He was super friendly. It was nice to learn the location in Mt. Pleasant is where it all started at. That place is not the best brewery area to hang out at. However if you're going for beer it's a good choice. All of the beers were good. My favorite was Idle Hands. A double IPA, I'm not an IPA guy but two of the breweries I've visited have been my favorites. We ended up walking away with 2 cases of beer. That's a first for us. I paid $85 for two cases. That's a first for me as well.

This is a pretty solid brewery. We were on our way from a night in Pittsburgh, to a wedding at Seven Springs, and this was not far out of the way. There isn't any food here, but it looked like there are usually food trucks around meal times. My wife and I split a flight and enjoyed all of our samples. My personal favorite was the Misfit and Misanthropes #24, a very juicy NEIPA. Wouldn't make a special trip to come here, but if in the area again, would definitely stop by again.

When I heard about this new brewery in Mt. Pleasant a year or so ago, I had to check it out. Run by two brothers, these young guys have really done a wonderful job of introducing some great craft beers into the marketplace! Located in an off-the-beaten- path location with a gravel parking lot, their metal building houses some reclaimed brewing equipment and shows evidence of how a dream becomes reality. The beers were initially so much in demand they could barely keep up with requests from the local bars in the area. Experimentation with various brews meant you never knew what they might have on tap or when your favorite would be available again. Sadly, there have been times my growler came home empty since they had to cycle their production and I was there between batches. With time, they've gotten really good. Really good. They've even started bottling some of their beers and have added brewing tanks. Their Rapture IPA is outstanding! If you're lucky enough to see it on tap anywhere (try Mad Mex), get it. Do it. It's awesome. And if you're in the mood for a little more alcohol in your brew, the Idle Hands double IPA may be the BEST double I've ever had. If you're ever in Mt. Pleasant, stop in and see Shawn and have him draw you a few samples. Tell him I sent you. Here's hoping that they get more widespread distribution so we all can enjoy some of the best craft beer Pittsburgh has to offer. But until then, that brown jug in my hands is all mine........

"We're headed to Reggie Ledoux's house." These are the words spoken by one of my drinking buddies as we made our way to Helltown Brewing. I was a little scared of what we'd find. Helltown Brewing is a modest brewing set up located in Mount Pleasant, an area made infamous from it's bootlegging ages ago. I had never been there before and while it looked like we may be lost, I was assured we were almost there. Helltown is located in what looks like a big garage and you drive through a residential area and up a dirt road to get there. Their logo marks the side of the building. Definitely not what you'd expect. Despite my reservations, our stop here could not have been more pleasant. We were welcomed in by the brewers and samples were offered. There's not really anywhere to sit so we stood near the taps. Only growlers are sold on site but Helltown brews can be found around at Pittsburgh bars and local beerfests. While at the source, I tried Wretched (a Belgian blonde) and Mischievous (a brown ale). I liked them both, but not enough to buy a growler to go. If you're a fan of IPAs, Rapture will be your Helltown beer of choice. I'd easily give their beers a 4. But since this review is for the brewery as well as the beer, I went with a 3 star review. The beers are quality for sure so if you see Helltown on tap at a local bar, definitely give it a try. The brewery itself would be better if they had a bigger tasting room. Unfortunately I don't think that's in their plans for the future.

We have a camp in Champion, PA & after seeing some posts from Pittsburgh Taco Truck, I realized there was a brewery about 20 minutes away from our camp (and a little over an hour out from Pittsburgh) in Mt. Pleasant! I was pretty excited to say the least. Pittsburgh Taco Truck has been coming to this location I believe 1x or so a month all summer- we happened to be in the area on the weekend in which they were coming to Helltown. The brewery is tucked back in a residential area in Mt. Pleasant- you may find yourself questioning if you have the right address when you are driving there. They have a decent parking area, all of which is grass. It's located next to a cornfield &you won't be able to miss the devil's tail logo on the side of the building. They had about 5 or 6 wooden tables set up outside, & there really isn't any seating in the tap room. The brewers are really friendly & laid back. We were able to sample any beer we wanted- they don't offer flights, but offer generous free samples instead. I went with the Hefe at first and then came back for the Brown Ale later on. I also tried a sample of their Double IPA. I liked the Hefe, but loved the Brown Ale- it had a really delicious deep flavor. Their Double IPA was tasty as well. We had a great time drinking good beer & eating yummy tacos. They offer growlers and they sell cans as well. We overall had a great time & I look forward to returning!

It had good reviews on Yelp, so I decided to give it a go. And I'm glad I did. Everything was excellent. The outdoor seating was nice, the workers were friendly, my waitress Jae was very attentive, and most importantly, the fish sandwich was top notch. It certainly seemed to be freshly made and not frozen. I ordered fries on the side in addition to Cole slaw. The slaw was nice and creamy. While I generally don't like battered fries, these were pretty tasty. The only slight negative was the cost. At almost $30 for my sandwich plus a beer, it seemed a little pricey to me. But sometimes you have to pay for quality. I will return.

Every style I tried in the flight was good...they obviously put the effort into getting their stuff right. They live up to being called a "craft" brewery. The atmosphere is fantastic. They have live music from time to time and it looks like they have food available occasionally as well. The bartenders were both super friendly and helpful. I think it was about 25 minutes or so from Deep Creek Maryland. The brewery is located in the owners/main brewers garage. Right next to his house, among a bunch of other houses. If they wouldn't have had a sign we would never had known. Once inside we were greeted and warmly welcomed. I actually thought the man and women (who did indeed turn out to be husband and wife) were the owners. They seemed to take such pride in everything and were so hospitable to everyone that came in, almost like you would expect if going to a loving and doting relative. She popped popcorn for patrons and was handing out bowls. She was full of stories and seemed to really just like working there. Her and her husband filled us in on the brewery and its history. The beers now were surprisingly decent. I got the glimmer of hop comet. They had a winter warmer on tap with like the best name Fra-Gee-Lay, Must be Italian. I can't imagine ever finding myself in this neck of the woods again but I sure would order that beer again if I ever saw it on tap. For the locals this place should definitely be in your rotation.

Went here after golfing with a buddy and had a solid IPA and a pretty good Oktoberfest. The variety available is good enough that most people should be able to find something they like. A really nice outdoor seating area with a couple of fire tables and Adirondack chairs makes it comfortable and inviting. I happened to be there on a Sunday afternoon and I think a football game was going on or just ended because there were a bunch of unsupervised kids running around the tables. Not that they were over the top obnoxious, but they were definitely distracting. For example, we were seated and it took a bit of time for someone to greet us. Then a lot of attention was paid until we ordered, then we had to hunt someone down to ask for our check. Maybe it was an off day. Overall, though, our server was knowledgeable about the food and beer options and was friendly and courteous. It was an interesting menu. Pizzas and ramen bowls are not usually things I'd expect to be served at the same restaurant, but they are both apparently highlight of their menu. I ordered the cauliflower appetizer and my husband ordered a salad. The cauliflower had an amazing sauce that gave it a kick but was also sweet. A perfect combination. For our main entrees, I ordered the daily ramen bowl special and my husband ordered the taco special. He loved his tacos. I was a bit underwhelmed by my ramen. The noodles were in a weird clump and it was somehow both too hot and too cold. It did have nice flavor overall, though. The beers, they weren't our favorite, but they weren't bad either.
