I am writing this post on behalf of my sister Mary Jo Cronin…read more She adopted a cat on 2/27 at the Will County Humane Society. They required a 6 day background check on human but we wish they would have done the same on the cat. They provided a free visit. The cat had a slight fever and was taken Crossroads Animal Hospital on Caton Farm Road on 3/2. They inspected the cat and they gave a shot. The vet never opened the cats mouth. On 3/19 exam, the cat was taken to a clinic closer to home. Dr Jenny Kuhn at Mokena Animal Clinic reported that the cat had already lost 5 teeth and recommended extraction of 17 more. Surgery was performed on 4/9. We are grateful that Dr Jenny Kuhn intervened for the sweet cat. We are also grateful that they only charged $400 to extract all of the infected teeth. But the process prior to her was less than humane or compassionate. We hope this story encourages the Will County Humane Society to watch who they partner with for care of the animals they are trying to protect. If Mary Jo had not persisted, the cat could have died from the infected teeth. As a new cat owner, she didn't think to try check teeth and gums.

But, according to the mgr. named Kim she stated to me, "Please understand that we are currently in the process of moving out of our facility and are significantly understaffed. As a volunteer-run organization, we are doing our best". Which to me isn't good enough, and at what cost? Bringing in dogs from Kentucky and then selling them for $600.00-$700.00 dollars isn't helping dogs find a nice home. Stop bringing in trucks of animals in until you clean up for rescue. They have had several complaints, just look them up. Even their fosters aren't being taken care of or RESPECTED! Until they can clean up their act, there are other great animal rescues out there.

They not only…read morefailed to mention any medical issues, when within a week we had spend over $500 extra for vet care, they offered zero support. When we tried re-homing the dog to medical issues, they didn't respond immediately until I sent a more stern email about their lack of care/support for the animals they adopt and for the adopters. The response by the owner? Threaten to circulate my families name around. We rescued another dog we've had for over 6 years, and when my sister needed help to re-home one of her dogs, we reached out to the other shelter and they helped out so my sister could get HER dog re-homed, but because they believe I have "rehomed" 2 animals. Even though it's only been ONE pet, the pet they gave us. I will combat any circulation they can try and do and easily provide documentation validating everything. My family (my siblings and my parents as well) have a great history of rescuing animals with multiple shelters in the area and there will be proof of that. But because they stole our money for a dog with health issues that they couldn't be transparent about or offer financial support after gouging us over $500 for fees and training course, that didn't help at all. I will be sure to circulate the bad press about them even further than they can even try with myself. My track record is well established and emails between them, vet bills, and documentation of other very successful adoptions will show that this organization is a joke.

My parents saw her at the shelter back in 2012 and texted me her photo (because they knew I wanted a cat), and I was like "yes absolutely I want her I will come get her." And the rest is history -- it's been 11 great years with my bestie (and hopefully many more). And then a year later, almost to the day, my parents were like "hey let's go to Adopt" the day after Thanksgiving and they ended up getting a cat (their second) for themselves. I haven't been back to the shelter since 2013 when I went with them when they decided to get their cat, but at that time the shelter was super nice and they had several rooms where cats could roam free. It was a nice, no-stress situation to be able to sit on a sofa or on the floor and have the cats come check you out. So many snuggles. And I follow them on Instagram and they continue to do great work and care deeply for the animals they rescue. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a new best friend! Lots of dogs and cats here. We have never bought pets, we have always taken in strays or other…read morepeople's pets. Our last cat passed away a week or so ago and we decided it was time to get another cat and the we were sure we wanted to adopt two cats from a shelter. The prices for adopting are extremely fair (low), they told me they try as much as possible to be a no kill shelter, and they are always looking for people to adopt pets. Seems like there were lots of volunteers, but the people I met were top notch and loved the animals. I got to sit in the cat room for as long as I wanted, and they were knowledgeable about the cats and which ones that would be good with other cats and which ones that needed a home to themselves. I went in thinking I was only going to adopt one, but I left with two because there were just too many sweet cats and I couldn't say no to one in particular. I now have two lovely cats that are so happy to be in our house and are already sleeping on our laps and purring away. I just want to thank the staff because they made the whole process of adoption very easy.
