Our HOA needed to replace a failed 60-foot long drainage pipe that ran across one our private roads leading into a cul de sac and also had to address a number of erosion issues that the HOA had been dealing with at the pipe entrance and exit for many years.  The HOA solicited potential solutions and 4 bids for the job from local contractors.  Full-time access for residents during the project and ensuring that all necessary materials were available in a timely manner was a huge consideration for the HOA - especially with winter approaching.  HEMAX was selected because they provided a solid plan, assured material availability, a guaranteed project start date and submitted the most competitive quote. The project involved asphalt cutting, excavation and replacement of a 24-inch corrugated metal drainage pipe with a high density polyethylene pipe, installation and compaction of fill over the new pipe to specifications and the application of hot-patch asphalt to repair the road surface.  The project also included: the creation of new culverts and catch basins, the establishment of a head wall at the new pipe entrance, repair of existing culverts, and providing additional fill and re-grading of both sides of the private road for safety and also to help ease future maintenance of the area.  Afterward, all work was seeded, covered with erosion control matting and lined with rip rap. Throughout the whole project, the HEMAX team kept the HOA Board informed and did an outstanding job.  The project started and completed on-time and was efficiently executed so that residents had full-time access to the area and were minimally affected.  Each night, the work area was well cleaned and all equipment safely stowed.  The HOA Board highly recommends HEMAX based on their cost and performance on this project and will definitely consider them for future work within the HOA.

After a recent, horrendous experience with a general contractor who created surface water drainage problems resulting in repeated incidents of rain water in my basement and crawl space, then refused to fix the problems and imposed a mechanics lien when I refused to make final payment (subject of another review), I was desperate to find a reputable and competent contractor to fix the mess created by the first contractor. I found HEMAX, and I'm glad I did. I had on-site interviews with four companies before choosing HEMAX. In addition to fixing grading and surface water drainage problems, HEMAX installed a 50' x 3' curved retaining wall and a 400sqft paver patio, as well as 500sqft of sod and mulch. From the hands-on company co-owner and sales/project manager to the crew of guys who did the work, everyone I dealt with was professional and responsive. The same guys showed up every day, put in a full-day's work every day, leaving time at the end of each day to clean up the work site. Not only would I highly recommend HEMAX, I have already recommended HEMAX several times.

No Show and Lied…read more Back in March, I called the company's phone number to schedule a spring start-up service for my existing system--an easy job. The voicemail directed me to text the number for a faster response, which I did. In the text exchange that followed, I was scheduled for the service on May 1 between 8am and 12pm. The day arrives, and by 11am I had not heard anything, so I texted back just to confirm I was on the schedule. No response. I called the phone number, there was no answer, so I left a detailed voicemail. No response. I then followed up at 1:40pm with a screenshot of the text exchange from March when the service was scheduled. I then got a prompt reply re-confirming that I was still on the schedule for the day, and that he would check on the location of the technicians. I heard nothing further. Tried called again. No response. Texted again at 3:30pm asking for updates. No response. Texted again at 4:11pm. No response. Multiple additional phone calls went straight to voicemail. The company never showed. I had to make arrangements to work from home so this service could be performed. The appointment was confirmed over a month in advance and re-confirmed the day of the appointment. Now, I have to find another vendor, make alternate work arrangements again, and will be delayed in getting my lawn irrigated this season. This is a dishonest business practice. It is bad enough to fail to show for a job. But it was made worse by re-confirming the day of the appointment that it was still scheduled, still not showing, and then just ignoring communications by text and phone. There was no excuse for this. If there was some problem on the company's end that required the appointment to be re-scheduled, I would have been reasonable. But instead he just lied and wasted my time. I recommend you do not waste your time or money on this business. Screenshots attached as proof.

I think it might've even been left on for several hours since it was in the backyard and I was working. Seems like he didn't do a very thorough check of things - as most spring restarts Ive had done aren't done in like 20 mins... So I call him and text him that night expecting to get to get a response the next day, which I do and he says he will be by the following afternoon. I ask what time and he says 4pm. He doesn't show and I text at 6pm asking if he's coming. Nothing. He calls me the next day at 9pm saying his phone fell into excavator? Okay whatever - convenient story. He shows back up the following day with another guy - they spend maybe 45 mins replacing a valve and fixes the back sprinkler. He then charges me more than double the original price for the restart. Which makes no sense. He basically messed up the restart and then charged me extra. Dude is not straight up. Don't use them unless you wanna get fleeced and bs'd.

Thankfully due to reliability issues with the previous irrigation company that we'd used we had to find a new company. Carlos showed us how the main irrigation pipe was installed at an angle and basically the irrigation back flow valve was forced into the PVC pipe and the possibility of it cracking under pressure and flooding our basement was extremely high. Carlos did a perfect job of fixing that and solved any other small issues with our irrigation system which is now working perfectly. Everyone from this company has been very professional and responsive. We highly recommend Carlos and Advanced Irrigation and Lighting.

Due to the new patio and retaining wall construction, it was a little complicated install. Carlos and the crew exceeded the expectations and delivered the perfect system with Rachio smart controller on time and according to the plan. Not every contractor was willing to submit a blue print for me to set my expectations. Carlos did that too and was phenomenal in explaining the watering needs for grass and flower beds along with maintenance requirements and options. He used Hunter PgP rotors which are best in industry and not the rainbird. After we needed couple of tweaks to the rotors and he tweaked those quickly. Can't be happier with the system.

Writing I had a new Hydrawise system installed last summer,…read moreand the experience has been consistently frustrating since day one. Within days of installation, I noticed that while the system indicated it was watering, no actual irrigation was occurring. After contacting support, I was told it was likely a wiring issue. I paid for a service call and had additional work done, including new heads installed in one of my zones. Now, at the start of this season, a new issue has surfaced--Zone 2 remains running simultaneously with Zones 3 through 6, which clearly points to a system or wiring fault. When I reached out for assistance, the response I received was disappointing. Before any inspection or troubleshooting, the representative immediately attributed the issue to lack of winterization and stated I would be charged again. This approach is concerning. As a long-time homeowner with a sprinkler system dating back to 2008, I have never encountered these types of recurring problems until upgrading to this controller. Even more troubling is the readiness to assign blame without first assessing the situation. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service. The lack of accountability and customer-focused support does not align with the expectations for a professional installation and service provider. I would advise others to carefully consider their options before choosing this company.

This was the second time that we discovered that our sprinkler system was leaking after Campbell worked on it. In late 2023, their poor workmanship resulted in leaks so severe that Campbell had to generate a letter for us to send to the water company confirming that it was their fault that our water usage was so high- and not ours- so that we could ask for an adjustment to our bill. In 2025, we hired them again (I know, shame on us) to do our spring service on April 16th. The next day, we discovered that the system was leaking where Campbell had replaced a solenoid, so we immediately contacted their office to request that someone come out and quickly correct the problem. Their admin told us she would get us scheduled ASAP, but then we didn't hear from her, or anyone else in Campbell's office, for a week. On April 23rd, she finally emailed us to tell us that Campbell was unable to come fix the damage they had caused until May 8th- more than three weeks from the initial job that they botched. We called asking speak to one of the owners, Colby, but no one ever responded. On the morning of the 24th, having not received any response, I filed a formal complaint with the Virginia State Corporation Commission. I emailed the office Thursday the 24th, to advise that we had been trying unsuccessfully to elicit any kind of response from Campbell, and requested again that Colby contact me, as I had worked with him before. Their admin told me he was "in the field" and unavailable. She asked if we would be at home over the weekend so that Campbell could send a crew to fix their work, and I confirmed that we could make ourselves available. A couple of hours later, she rescinded that offer, claiming that they were "fully booked." I called to let her know that I had filed a complaint with the SCC, and she shrieked at me and hung up. After not hearing from Campbell for another four days, I emailed the other owner, Taylor, directly on April 28th to ask him to contact me. He never responded. Instead, their awful desk admin replied to me on April 29th claiming that I had reported Campbell to the "Business Bureau" (I assume she meant the "Better Business Bureau," which was false anyway, as it was the SCC) and that she interpreted that as a change in our "desire to keep the appointment," and asking me to clarify. I asked her AGAIN to have Taylor or Colby contact me, and left both of my phone numbers and my schedule. She claimed, despite their inordinately "busy" schedule, that they were both at a conference, but assured me they would contact me the next day. She then emailed me on the 30th to claim that their travel had been delayed, but assured me (again) that one of them would contact me the following day. Finally, on May 1st Taylor actually called me. I ran him through the entire summary, and he claimed he would get it fixed, and also sent me a follow-up text message claiming that he would be in touch the next day. Anyone who has read this far will know what's coming next: Taylor in fact, did not contact me the next day, May 2nd. Instead, he sent me an invoice for the still-incomplete work. Campbell didn't correct leaks in our system until May 8th, and when the tech arrived, he expressed total confusion regarding why it took weeks to send someone to complete less than 30 minutes' worth of work. Oh, but don't worry- Taylor texted me the very next day to eagerly check on the status of his payment. At this point, I was done chasing him and his company, and sent him his ever-so-precious, ever-so-sought-after check for payment in full, along with a letter expressing how disappointed we were. Save yourself the hassle and don't hire these people. But DM me if you want to see even more details, including the screenshots and time stamps for all the times I tried to get them to actually do their job.

This year I had all the issues and failed to reach any manager to escalate my issues. There was a leak at Zone1 and the raised the issue end of Jul. I got the maintenance technician to identify another leak at the joint to the backflow. After a long struggle to get this scheduled and fixed. The crew came, fixed the joint leak and ignored the Zone1 leak. Aug, Sep and now in Oct and still I had to turn off my system because of the continuous leak. I have been calling the office to try to schedule this fix. They came back in Sep with an estimate to fix. Since then I have been trying to tell them, I will pay any amount of money but fix it. Today I called the office trying to reach a manager. Mr. Zach answered the phone and informed me ALL managers are busy in a meeting because they upgrading the system for the PAST TWO MONTHS. I asked for a supervisor, again the same answer that all supervisors are in the field. Mr Zach went even further to state, he KNOWS what the manager will tell me and he is happy to cancel my winterization schedule tomorrow. To be honest with you, I am at a loss of words for such customer service. My lawn is turning yellow over summer because no one cared to service the lawn. More importantly, although I did not even talk about insurance I paid for, offered to pay whatever needed,I am unable to get anyone to put an effort to do. I explained to Mr. Zach over the phone, that his crew when they came and left estimate last time, I was at home, and no they did not knock the door and they left in less than 10 min by just looking at the muddy zone1. Amazingly their estimates kept changing of the root cause, starting with maybe car by mistake drove over the sprinkle, to now leak is under a tree and maybe the pipe got broken by roots. In the end, it looks for me they just checkbox when they come and quickly look to leave with no care to really serve. It is impossible to get someone over the phone to address your issue. -- Update -- Received a termination note :) -- Update -- apparently, the practice is to claim anything, put full-time manager to fix yelp and ignore answering customer complains. Heard from a neighbor it is their common practice upselling insurance and always stall to push for renewing the policy when they fail to fix. Funny how they rendered the issue no reply from my side. Happy to post email communications and video of how their service estimate is done. BBB complaint filed and will take it more to the Department Of Professional and Occupational Regulation for their male business practice.
