We have been in communication with VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions since March 12, 2026 regarding problems with two projects which they completed on our home. In 2021 they completed a waterproofing project which carries a 12 year warranty, and in 2022 they completed a patio installation which carries a 5 year warranty. As of April 22, 2026, VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions has not provided a solution to either of these problems. Our foundation wall was bowed before VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions excavated and waterproofed our home in 2021. We showed the bowed wall to VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions before the excavation began, and they recommended proceeding with the project without reinforcing the wall. We began to see small cracks in the foundation wall shortly after VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions completed the waterproofing. We showed the cracked wall to VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions before they installed our patio in 2022. VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions assured us that the cracks were not a problem. However, the cracks have grown substantially since then, and an independent structural engineer has confirmed that the wall is failing. In addition, the patio is sinking, the exterior waterproofing membrane is slipping, and there is a damp smell in our home near the cracked wall. In order to provide access to the cracked foundation wall for repairs, our patio will have to be removed, and the exterior of our home will have to be excavated again. Once the engineer's recommended repairs have been completed, the wall will have to be waterproofed again, and our yard will have to be regraded again. Finally, our patio will have to be reinstalled. We paid VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions to do all of this work in 2021 and 2022 because we trusted their professional opinion about our foundation wall. We now have to pay another contractor to do all of this work again so that our foundation wall can be reinforced. VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions has stated that they will not honor the warranty on the waterproofing project because the man who estimated the project is no longer employed by VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions. They have not provided details about how they will honor the warranty on the patio installation. We will update our review if VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions honors the warranties on their work. In the meantime, we cannot recommend VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions. read more

We had drainage and hardscaping done by VM. The drainage part came out great and we're very happy with it. But the hardscaping is really bad and I would recommend you avoid this company if you want a flagstone patio. The installation team generated huge clouds of dust all day long because they didn't have a wet saw. It covered my side yard as well as my neighbors'. They also didn't wear any PPE, which is unsafe and unprofessional. The patio is graded correctly and has helped with water management issues, but they installed a dozen stones that were clearly damaged with large scratches and gouges. I called the project manager out and they replaced ten of the most damaged stones, but honestly they should not have taken delivery of this product and they should not have installed it. They should have sent it back to their supplier to get it swapped out. The mortar work is also very messy and overall makes the patio look bad. The mortar comes up over the edges of the stones and there are drips and smears to this day. I hope the weather would even it out over time but now a couple months later, it still looks really bad. We have neighbors who just got a new flagstone patio done by another company and the difference is stark. Their stones are perfect and the mortar has clean lines and looks great. Nice people and to their credit, they did come back after the initial install and put significant effort into improving it. But for the money, it's still not a good value. read more

We had VM Drainage and Erosion Solutions come to service my property after our yard started to flood during heavy rains. Leo, the estimator, walked me through everything and explained the process thoroughly. After interviewing the other bidders, we selected VM to perform the work. They proposed installing a trenched French drain system with connected downspouts and sump pump discharge. A dry creek bed would be installed to catch any runoff from a hill on our backyard. Two downspouts in front of our home would have pop up drains installed to redirect water away from our driveway and foundation. VM would install flagstone pavers as a walking path around the yard and river stone elsewhere above an erosion control fabric. They drew up a sketch and provided sample photos of their work to help gain HOA approval. The project itself was supposed to take three or four days. Before starting work, Leo walked me through the process and made sure everything was installed according to the project specifications. He made sure I would be satisfied before the project would be considered complete. Leo was in constant contact and could be reached via phone or text. He responded to requests (like moving a pop up drain slightly to ensure it didn't go onto my neighbor's property) very quickly. There was an issue during the install that required a repair to our irrigation system that VM could not fix on their own (severed control cable). This delayed the project by about a week or so. VM stayed true to the project, insisted that they would fully pay for the repairs--and they did--and the process was extremely easy. Their staff were excellent, professional, and kept the work area clean and safe throughout. They even installed a couple extra pavers at my request to make it easier to walk onto the drainage area. All in all I was happy to hire them despite the hiccup and would recommend them to others. Simply fantastic job. read more

We brought on the VM drainage team to replace a terrible old paver foundation in the shed corner of the property. They listened to our concerns with the area (not leveled, muddy) and proposed a gravel square where we can set the new shed with hard base. The estimate was thorough and fair. We were asked how many of the old materials we wanted to salvage and the VM drainage team proposed ideas for how to use the salvaged materials within this project elsewhere on the property. The end product is exactly as they promised. They placed decorative stones around the base to help with drainage and installed a discreet French drain underneath to channel water away from the area. Very pleased with the look of the end result. The crew that handled the project took feedback well and were dedicated to finishing even after a problem with what they found underneath the old pavers arose. Contracted for a gravel pad to place a small shed, and while the wood framing is level and square, the gravel pad dips down more than an inch across a 12' run. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until our shed had already arrived. Not sure if the ground wasn't leveled properly, or they just ran out of stone, but either way, the shed is half a bubble off plumb. At least it will help with sweeping! read more

What a waste of time. I requested a quote through Yelp. I scheduled an in person estimate for my project. They insisted on a time frame which required me to move a work call, only for them to NOT show up. Then after calling and being placed on hold I'm told, more than 15 minutes after the start of the scheduled time, the person I was speaking to through Yelp never put it on their system so I never had an appointment. I had to move a work call to not meet with anyone. I cannot speak to their work but if the people you are talking to can't schedule an estimate, what else will they not be able to do? read more

We have had severe stormwater runoff flooding issues on our property due to the topography and other factors, that was insufficiently addressed by a 20+ foot 6" drain pipe that could not handle the runoff volume. Person shows up to give an estimate, lets me know they can do the work and have an estimate to me on Monday. A week after the expected estimate, still nothing. After pinging them again they said they would get me something the next business day. A few days later, still nothing. I ping them again and they come back and say: "We did speak to our inspector, he did state we will not be able to service this request." We contacted VM drainage to do a french drain on the side of our house. They took a look at the area and made suggestions of how to improve the whole back area where we were having drainage issues. They added the drain, connected it to a gutter and leveled out the earth to add a gravel walk way. They even used materials we purchased (hexagon drainage tiles) in the installation. This is an update to the review I posted on 10/12 expressing my disappointment with the company's seeming refusal to honor the five-year warranty in our contract. The day after my post, I received a call from the manager, Natalie. She was apologetic about not getting back to me earlier, and let me know that VM Drainage would indeed be honoring the warranty. A few days later I received a reimbursement for the full amount I had paid them to install the French drain. The company's willingness to honor the warranty certainly shows integrity, particularly as the gentleman who designed and supervised the installation of my French drain had since left to begin his own company. If I hadn't had to post an unfavorable review in order to have my calls returned, I would have given the company four stars. read more

We wanted a quote from VM Drainage for just a fix for our rear patio problem. During the consultation, he kept trying to upsell us on pavers and would not listen to what we wanted- just concrete. We also wanted a retaining wall with stone but he was trying to sell us timber (which wouldn't last as long at a cheaper price to them). The quote was WAY above other quotes at $17,900. When I asked him how much less it would be for plain concrete instead of pavers, his e-mail said it would be about $7,500 for just concrete and would write up the estimate and send it to us. The estimate they then sent was for $10,100 (still way over other quotes). Needless to say we aren't going to go with this company. They do not listen and are not straightforward with their pricing. I had Jose come give me an estimate on my property. He initially seemed very professional and knowledgeable and told me that the work they do comes with a warranty. Unfortunately, I made the terrible mistake of paying cash because I was told I'd receive an itemized invoice, which I never got!!! I proceeded to contact the main office and was told he'd call me on Monday. Fast forward a month and a half later I've yet to hear from anyone. I'm having some issues with the work they did on my property, no one is returning my calls or text messages and on top of everything I don't even have proof of payment or that they even did the work on my property since I never got an invoice. Our entire experience with V & M Drainage and Erosion was positive! Communication was good and people came when they said they would (or called if there were issues with weather or traffic). These hard workers spent eight days at our house solving erosion problems and building a beautiful set of stone steps up the side of our house, and every one of the team was polite, friendly, and extremely skilled. The work was not cheap but it was right on track with the estimate so there were no surprises at the end. VM Drainage does quality work and takes their warranty seriously. VM Drainage helped control the water flow from an adjacent hill which worked wonderfully in 2018, the wettest year on record in NOVA. They installed two French drains and put underground pipes in from my downspouts. The results speak for themselves- no flooded basement or mushy yard! About 6 months after the install, one of the gutter / downspout underground pipes started clogging and I asked VM Drainage to come out and troubleshoot. Turns out there was an issue with the pipe and they fixed the problem without charge. They left the worksite clean and the communication with the foreman, Jose, went well.
