Zesty Chicken Sausage, Egg and Cheese
    Kyle J.

I've been on this campus for 20+ years. As long as I've been here, there has been Hemo's Food Cart in all of its phenomenal splendor. Hemo has had the best sandwiches and always the best prices! (You've GOT to try his homemade chicken sausage, egg and cheese sandwich!) Hemo's chicken sausage is full of aromatic spices that awaken the senses and tantalize the tastebuds! Not only that, but Hemo is a great guy, with great food and he's consistently feeding us great cuisine for over 20 years! Thanks Hemo! See you next week!

    Hemo and his legendary sauce

Hemo's is my favorite sandwich food truck in university city. Hemo and the lady who works with him (darn- don't know her name) are a great team- making delicious food to order quickly. And they remember their customers, their favorite orders, etc. I love that. The "small" roll is maybe 7-8" and is plenty for lunch for me, and I'm not a girl who gets full on salad (the price difference between small and large is only $1 FYI). His spinach sub is my favorite, which has spinach, onions, peppers, and mushrooms (and cheese too). You then have the option to top it off with the white sauce and hot sauce (Hemo is kinda famous for his secret sauce combo and has been featured in some local newspapers)- do it. The combination is delicious and one of the things that really sets Hemo's apart. The other thing that sets him apart are his reasonable (okay downright cheap) prices. The aforementioned deliciousness that will fill my gullet for the afternoon only costs $3. Add egg (which is cooked and chopped with other ingredients) for an extra dollar. His cheesesteaks, chicken pitas, etc. are a great deal too- around $5-6 depending on size, meat, etc. I've had a bite of a friend's chicken pita, and it's delicious. Tender and fresh chicken breast cooked to order with your choice of toppings and Hemo sauce? You cannot go wrong. In summary, Hemo meets the trifecta of food trucks that (in my humble opinion) others should strive towards: reasonably-priced delicious, fresh and made to order food that is prepared by a really nice guy.

Chicken cheese egg in long roll with the special Hemo's sauce : $5.50

amazing sandwiches when i'm busy and have to pick up a solid meal at a cheap price. I am surprised at how short of a line there is sometimes because this place is so good! Pros: -Hemo is so kind! I asked him what was popular or what he personally liked, and he said the chicken was really popular at lunch while other items like the egg cheese sausage were popular at breakfast. he would greet everyone with a smile -the chicken was SO tender. I had the chicken cheese and egg in a long roll and the chicken wasn't too salty or overcooked, but it was so tender im glad i took his recommendation for the chicken sandwich. I was able to add in what I wanted and this meal was very filling and cheap! this was only $5.50 and I added cheese and egg. -i really like their bread. it's light and fluffy but crunchy on the sides and outside. the sandwich came out really quickly so i thought the bread wouldn't be cooked too well but it was toasted perfectly -their sauce is AMAZING. i have no idea what it is, it's sort of creamy but not too overpowering. this and the hot sauce balanced so well so i was also able to get a kick of spice Cons: -i feel like i don't see the truck on weekends:(

Amazingly delicious breakfast/lunch spot, insanely affordable ($4.25 for this huge Sandwhich) & very tasty special Hemo's sauce! Great college memories but good for anyone in the area, especially if you're on the go looking for something simple but delicious:)

    Small spinach sub $3 only!!!!
    Say G.

All of their sandwiches are so flavorful, and their small size is actually pretty large (at least for girls/women). IMHO they sell the best and the cheapest hoagies in the University City area. The combination of their Spicy sauce and Hemo's special sauce is just magical! Try them, and you won't regret your decision!

Most cheesesteaks have such bland meat so this did it right - Cheese: melty coopers cheese was perfectly mixed in. - Onions: just the right soloing if grilled onions mixed in to complement the meat but not overwhelm it. - Size: monstrous! You can easily share (but you may not want to). - Fairly efficient: even with long lines, put your phone number in the kiosk, can pay with credit card, and wait til you are texted to pick it up. - For the whole family: my cranky teen son said it's the best thing he ate on our 23 day summer East Coast trip (including lots of great dining spots around Philly and NYC). Lowlights: - Waits can be long and brutal in heat. We got lucky with a shorter line. - No seating: just an ordering counter inside so many are eating out on the sidewalk.

Perfect evening. Now onto the food review. The star is THE BREAD. The pizza's crust was chewy and crispy. We had the white pizza and devoured it. It's also MASSIVE for 2 people. The cheesesteak was loaded (could use more seasoning but maybe they intentionally make it that was as a baseline), the seed roll? PHENOMENAL. The lines are confusing. Lowkey I think they have the opportunity to make their signings better. Dear owner if you see my review, see the 2 perfect rectangles right above the door? Hear me out, one sign per rectangle that says order on the left and pick up on the right. That will solve everyone's confusion and save your team from yelling at customers "ORDER OVER HERE!" Win-win. We asked for a cheesesteak w mushroom and was charged for it but it didn't come with mushrooms :( we do appreciate the speed though and they'll keep your food in a warmer until you pick up (how thoughtful!) There is absolutely no seating inside, definitely a grab and go place!

Not tough but a nice, soft seeded sub roll. Seeing it arrive was a little overwhelming but I kinda thought the thing was light and was easy to finish off 1/2. The Fig and Pig - the fig jam was outstanding. Great sweetness with the saltiness from the prosciutto and then to top it off, the crunch of the cutlets. Excellent. As I was leaving, I saw a cutlet, with mutz, broccoli rabe, and roasted red peppers. I WILL be back for that. That looked amazing. Service was very friendly, prompt. We sat down and within a few minutes, our sandwiches came out. Looks like they were working on takeout / delivery orders and I thought, oh crap, am i behind all of that. But I guess they were either done or they prioritize the tables. Place was small but at 2:30 or so, it had a couple of tables open. They had tables outside but a little warm and in the sun for that. They serve you fresh waster (Drinks to order include Hanks, Boylan's, Harney and Sons, Teas etc.) and will serve you at the table or you can walk up and order at the counter. Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!
