Lamb Shawarma Platter with Batata Harra
    Wendy B.

It was good but feel Shawarma usually is more smaller slices with more flavor? Bigger slices here. Lamb Shawarma Platter with Batata Harra - pretty good, wish the Batata Harra is crispier. Chicken Pita extra crispy - it was good but didn't feel like it's Shawarma.

This is an interesting little spot serving Lebanese-inspired dishes. We were here out of hap and circumstance as our group was planning on going back to the nearby fancier Nudibranch, but they were apparently having an event that night. In terms of the spot, they were doing pretty poorly, but got popular more recently thanks to IG due to their Crunchwrap and Knefe Pancake, which I'm happy about, as the food was pricey but tasty. Anyway, besides their fame, the owner is friendly, and it's casual inside. As I was in the mood for something more filling, I ordered one of their platters, which comes with either rice or potatoes along with your choice of meat, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, onion, turnips, pickles, and hummus. The meat changes the price of said dish, and I went with the Lamb Shawarma, which was $23, and ordered the potatoes as my carb, along with a side of rice. While there wasn't much shawarma, it was good-quality meat. It was very juicy, though that was a bit hard to tell as it was mixed in with the hummus. Speaking of which, the hummus was pretty good, but I've had better quality. I love Lebanese-style turnips and pickled vegetables in general, and these were tasty. The eggplant was slightly sweet with a soft texture, while the cabbage added some crunch. The potatoes, or Batata Harra, are normally $10 when not included as part of the platter, and are a mix of cilantro potatoes and toum, or garlic whip. It wasn't spicy like versions found in most Lebanese spots, but I liked their more herbally take. I also liked the texture of the potatoes, being soft with a bit of chew. For the other base, I also liked the $8 Crispy Garlic Rice side, where the rice is topped with garlic yogurt and crispy pita. This was also very tasty with some nice crunchy textures and a bit of sweetness/sourness from some pomegranate molasses. This was large enough to share, as well, and I presume a side dish of the potatoes would be as well. While not the biggest portion for the price, the quality is a good amount better than the vast majority of Arabic/Levant/Middle Eastern spots in the neighborhood. For instance, the meat alone is several steps ahead of the nearby Au Za'atar, Balade, or Salma, though I will be trying Zesty soon. I would go back to try some of their other offerings.

Cute spot, love the decor! Sweet girl at the cashier. My friend and I shared a beef shawarma and of course we had to get the kunafa pancake. The shawarma was solid! The pancake was unreal. Soo good! Very heavy, plan for a nap after. Definitely worth the visit!

This place was absolutely delicious! Everything I tried was so good and full of flavor. The food quality was amazing and I enjoyed everything I ordered. My only small suggestion is that I wish they had milk available with the Knafe pancake, but aside from that, everything was excellent. Definitely a place I'd come back to and highly recommend!

Had a 10/10 experience here, from the service to the food to the reverant allium wall art. It's maybe not the best location for a first date or intimate lunch conversation, but we as an already-married couple had fun with the slightly too loud playlist of super catchy Arabic dance music. I can't comment on the kefta, other than the fact that the cashier was stoked that we ordered it, and the bread and pickles were delicious. My Lebanese breakfast burrito was SO good. I asked for it without sojouk (sausage), and it was immediately offered to sub in falafel instead. This tipped the burrito a little too much on the starchy side, but it was so delicious that I didn't mind. Other than the falafel, it had potatoes, eggs, halloumi, and some kind of sweet, smoky sauce. The portion size is insane - but it's something you'll want to keep eating even as you start to feel full. Would love to see this place get more traffic and love. I wished I had a sign saying "you NEED to eat here" handy so that I could wave it at the people who were pausing outside to look at the menu. We'll definitely be back the next time we're downstate to try their many interesting and frequently changing brunch menu items, including a twist on chicken and waffles with their knefe pancake and a chickpea breakfast soup.

Hen House has been on our list to visit for a while and when we finally got to go, WOW it did not disappoint. It's a very small fast casual restaurant with only a handful of small tables (3 people max). It was not crowded on the Friday afternoon we visited and we got a table to eat there. After we ordered at the counter, the staff delivered the food to our table. The staff was so friendly and excited for us to try the food! We got the lamb Birria and Soujouk Pita. The Lamb Birria ..... SO GOOD. This is a must order item. It's definitely a little messy but so worth it. The Soujouk Pita was also delicious with pickles if you're in the mood for that but I'll probably try something different next time I go to try more items on the menu.

If you're looking for something truly unique in NYC, Henhouse is on another level. I ordered the blueberry knefe pancakes and WOW this dish is pure genius. It's thick, golden, slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and topped with warm, jammy blueberries that melt into every bite. The little pat of butter just ties everything together. It's rich, comforting, and unlike anything I've ever had, sweet but not overpowering, with that perfect knefe twist. Honestly unforgettable. Then I tried the piri piri chicken sandwich and it completely delivered. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with flavor. But the real highlight? Their homemade piri piri sauce. It's bold, slightly spicy, tangy, and creamy all at once, it elevates the entire sandwich. Add in the pickles and slaw for crunch and balance, all inside that perfectly toasted bun... every bite hits. What I love most is how original everything feels....you can tell they really thought through every detail on the menu. It's not your typical brunch or sandwich spot. The atmosphere is just as good as the food, trendy, fun, and super vibey without being pretentious. It's the kind of place you go to enjoy amazing food and the experience. Food: 10/10 Originality: 10/10 Vibe: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Easily one of the best and most creative spots I've tried in NYC.....already planning my next visit

We ordered the Piri Piri Chicken Sandwich ($16 before credit card fees and other fees). It was easily worthy of 5 stars and definitely worth trying. It's my second favorite chicken sandwich in NYC right now. It's fried and has a nice piri piri sauce. I don't eat much hot food anymore, but I consider this mild and wouldn't order again if it was any milder. But, everyone is different, it has a little heat, so I suggest ordering the sauce on the side if you are ordering for someone who isn't accustomed to seasoned food. The size of the chicken sandwich is great as well. Honestly, most chicken sandwiches in NYC aren't even as good as Popeye's. So I am always wary of ordering fried chicken sandwiches, but this was excellent and definitely better than Popeye's! There were 4 tables for 2 plus 2 stools at a high top. No outside seating. So space is limited. The staff did a great job with the volume of people. No bathroom, no option to wash my hands here before the meal was almost as disappointing as not being able to wash my greased up fingers after the meal.

Wow I was blown away with this meal! Filling, flavorful, and even though I eat a lot of Middle Eastern it was unique. The birria lamb was above and beyond! Would highly recommend to anyone going to a play in the area as I was.

Stopped by Hen House NYC and tried the piri piri fried chicken sandwich--super flavorful with the perfect balance of heat and crunch. The chicken was juicy, and everything tasted fresh and well put together. The owner was really welcoming and even offered me a sample of a kafta special that's coming to the menu soon, which was a great touch. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in the area.

Omg, @ World Trade Center outdoor yesterday, I walked into food fair. I ordered the OG Shawarma, it was amazing. I'm a very picky eater. The right amount of sauce, grilled chicken on screwer. Soooo, tasty I recommend this spot!

    Crunchwrap supreme

Fast-casual Mediterranean done right. The food was unreal, the service was great, and everything came out quick. Pro tip: come with friends so you can order multiple dishes; you'll want to try everything. Fan favorite: the Crunchwrap Supreme Stuffed with lamb shawarma, potatoes, toum, crunchy pita chips, and more. This was full-on flavor. Every element worked perfectly together, from the pickles to the meat. Truly addictive. Other mains: * Peri Peri Chicken Sandwich - juicy, spicy, insanely flavorful, and easily one of the best chicken sandwiches in the city. * Lamb Shawarma Wrap - all the essentials of a perfect wrap. The toum absolutely steals the show, the lamb is perfectly seasoned, and the wrap comes out crispy for the perfect crunch. Last but not least: the Kunafa Pancake Not technically dessert... but it should be. The pancake is fluffy and delicious on its own, and the kunafa elements take it through the roof. Best served plain in my opinion, but you can also get it with sweet berries or even spicy fried chicken. Don't miss: the Crunchwrap and the Kunafa Pancake. 5/5 -- no notes.

Very friendly staff working at the spot and also yummy food! For Father's Day they had a brunch menu that had some special items you can't get during other times.

We started with 7 family style small dishes: Hummus with Falafel Pops (chickpea purée, tahini, falafel, olive oil), Spring Burrata (roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, basil oil), Hamachi Crudo (passionfruit vinaigrette, citrus zest, cucumber, mint, sesame tuile), Scallops (carrot puree, serrano pepper, brown butter sauce), Tenderloin Skewer (zaatar chimichurri, fresh herb salad), and Shiitake Stuffed Grape Leaves (tomato coulis, yogurt foam, herbs). Everything was delicious. The hummus was well seasoned the falafel had a nice crunch. It went well with the warm puffy gyro bread that came to the table. The burrata was wasm and creamy. I love the vinaigrette on the fish. I ended up eating most of it. The scallops were the sweetest, most tender ones I have ever had. The tenderloin skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the grape leaves but the rice consistency was very soft almost mushy and you can barely tell there were mushrooms. There was barely any mushrooms flavor. Next we all chose an entree. I got the duck breast, my husband and daughter each had the beef tenderloin. The duck breast was smaller than i expected. The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.

Great for groups of all sizes, reservations suggested but on this weekday visit, it was not too busy. We had a resy any way. Service was fair. Our waiter checked in with us once after we ordered and we had to beckon him twice - once for water refill and second for condiments/questions. What I didn't appreciate but understood, since we were two people dining, we got a corner table for two. It was not busy so we asked for the table next to us since we ordered plenty. They did not accommodate us saying they may need it for later. I did not think that was necessary since the place was not busy. This was 6pm on a Wednesday. And to boot, huge dining room - plenty of seating available. This was off putting as we said we ordered plenty. Our plates barely fit and they brought everything almost at once. Onto the food, I may not have ordered their popular dishes but nevertheless, nothing to rave about. Portions were shareable but it was just okay. There was not one stand out dish. I had higher expectations based on other reviews and photos but it was likely what we ordered. This was a vegetarian meal for me since I was dining with a vegetarian. - Moussakaa, this was a very tomato based sauce dish. Fried eggplant and chick peas combined had a nice texture. Mild flavors. - Arayess cheese - sorely disappointed. Very little flavor and I love my cheeses. It needed something to make it more appealing. It literally looked like cheese in a pita. And yes, by description it was. No condiments or side of anything to offset the plating. Visually flat. It could've used a sun dried tomato paste or some acidic side dipping sauce. - Yara Fries - shockingly simple, zaatar and spices. But they didn't put enough. It still looked like regular fries. And by the name, I expected more punch of flavor. It was not there. - Falafel - tricky dish if it's not cooked well. Simple again by name but the ingredients were just mild in flavor. Crunch was perfect. The chickpea, onions, cilantro and garlic was not pronounced. It was ok. Not memorable. - House wine, by the glass, decent and went well with what we ate. Would I return is the question... Likely not. The menu was so promising but nothing to bring me back.
