    Gulab Jamun Smashburger

Chopped cheese is a great experience that takes a popular ny dish to the next level great spices and blend of flavors, very filling but really the Gulab jamun Smashburger is a dish everyone must try. Creativity is through the roof and it shouldn't work but it it works so perfectly, the soft warmth from the Gulab jamun with cardamom and rose flavors, with the crunch from jalebi with the creaminess from ras malai syrup. 100% must try

Nishaan 160 1st. Ave. New York, NY 10009 Chapli Kabob Chopped Cheese On a constructive note, the appearance was not cinematic, but as soon as I took my first bite, the taste triumphantly overcame the looks. It was basically a pakistani version of a chopped cheese on a toasted hoagie roll. For an extra kick, supplement lime cilantro; the more the merrier. #eastvillage #eastvillagenyc #Nishaan #pakistanichoppedcheese #ChapliKabob

The chapli kabab chopped cheese is a DREAM. It's so delicious, cheesy and meaty. The loaded fries are also pretty good! The Gulab jamun smashburger is a must-try. Everyone working is so sweet! The store is very small so be sure to grab one of the tables outside.

This spot just missed the mark for me. Very finely staff and small spot. I ordered the Barboa tostada and I just was not feeling the flavors at all. I like a kick but it was a bit too spicy for me. Ironically they sell a very sold chocolate chip cookie. lol def get it. I may come back for a chopped cheese when it's warmer but not anytime soon.

Delicious and quick food! The inside has a few tables and has a clean bathroom. I've never had chopped cheese before but this was delicious and I can imagine it would taste amazing after a long night out.

I had one of the best sandwiches I've had in years at Nishaan. I'm glad I don't live in New York City because I'd always be there! This hole-in-the-wall spot is a hidden gem in NYC, and honestly, I have a feeling it'll pop off even more soon. Nishaan introduced me to Pakistani fusion food and flavors I didn't even know existed, and I'm just sad I didn't even have room to try the rest of the menu! Speaking of room and menu, know that the portions are BIG. The chopped cheese sandwich is probably enough for two people, but I don't think anyone would judge if you don't share it, because it's that good. I made mine spicy, and it was not as mild as I expected (which I was so happy with). Also, don't sleep on the drinks! The mango fizz was perfect and not too sweet. Oh, and service was phenomenal. If you're in NYC, this place is a must.

It's honestly embarrassing how many times I have tracked this place down only to find it not open yet or closed for filming. Ever since I heard about this Pakistani chopped cheese sandwich I've been dying to come by here and dig my mouth in to this beautiful creation. Third time truly is a charm cz we finally got lucky. This time I brought friends. There was a line before they even opened but worry not, it does move quite fast. We ordered the elote chaat which the owner Zeeshan had told me personally is the creation he is most proud of. The textures and flavors on this wre fabulous. The chutney and amount of spice was just right. I am a texture girly and sweet succulent corn just makes everything great, so my friend and I devoured this. The nihari birria tacos were literally a work of art - the beef was to die for, perfectly seasoned and the taco was actually crispy and served hot. The cheese to meat ratio was just right and we inhaled these. The chopped cheese sandwich and loaded fries were delicious and totally worth the trekk here. The fries I liked a bit more because the potatoes formed a better background to the chapli kabab chopped cheese. The meat was spiced beautifully and the cheese is mixed in quite well. My only comment on the sandwich would be that the bread needs to be hollowed out a little bit, as it's a little dense and chewy and that it needs a more acidic component to cut through the richness and fattiness of the chapli meat - in a traditional chopped cheese it's that ketchup and pickle combo, perhaps it can come with pickles or add an extra tang to that imlee sauce. Regardless I enjoyed this sandwich and overall meal very much. They're also fully stocked with Salaam cola and other BDS friendly beverages. We love a conscientious business in this political environment. They will definitely be seeing me again. If you want a taste of Pakistani flavors fused with scrumptious eats Nishaan is where you have to be!!

I've been wanting to try this spot out ever since I they opened, as I knew the name from "Great Food Truck Race." The space is on the small side, but there is some seating inside and outside. Upon entering, I was welcomed by the friendly staff. When I mentioned how I found out about the place, I actually got to meet Zeeshan, the chef and owner. It was such a pleasure to chat it up with him. I really wanted to try the Galub Jamun Cold Foam, but was told they recently stopped offering it. Even though I was crushed, I decided to get the new drink item: Not Mango Lassi ($8), which was made with butter pecan ice cream, strong taste of cardamom, along with hints of saffron. This was so unique, and so much better than what we know Mango Lassi to be. It was oh so creamy smooth and wonderfully fragrant. I would have liked it without ice though. For my meal, I went with the Bihari Barbacoa Tacos ($15). This dish consisted of 3 tacos and was made with smoky beef barbacoa marinated with a yummy blend of spices, including cumin, turmeric, and pepper. Tacos were topped with irresistibly melty Oaxaca cheese, crunchy onions, fresh cilantro, and a slightly sweet tamarind salsa in a satisfyingly crunchy corn tortilla. I found the beef to be wonderfully tender and juicy, bursting with bold flavors that definitely had a kick to it. It would've been nice if the size of the tacos were a bit larger. Despite being pretty full, I couldn't help but order the Dubai Chocolate Paratha ($10). This was a very generous portion. It consisted of deep fried paratha drizzled with plenty of pistachio and Nutella. The Paratha reminded me of beignets, and were wonderfully light, airy, crispy. The blend of Pistachio and Nutella was rich, sweet, and delightful. I couldn't finish this all in one sitting, but when I had the rest later, it still tasted amazing! Service was superb! The staff were so personable and knowledgeable about the menu. And I loved getting to meet Zeeshan, the charming and warm owner. Food also came out quickly. Prices were decent. I definitely plan on returning, as I need to try the Pakistani Chopped Cheese (Beef version). One little request: Please, pretty please bring back the Galub Jamun Cold Foam!

After a night of drinking, all I wanted was a chopped cheese. Nishaan was the closest spot, which makes chopped cheese with a Pakistani twist. The Chapli Kebob Chopped Cheese ($16) is a tad pricier than your corner bodega, but it comes with bold flavors. The patty wasn't as chopped, but I enjoyed the addition of green peppers in the mix. It's a solid sandwich that hit the spot, although I prefer the regular a bit more. The service was quick and space is clean with some seating though.

the buffalo chicken tandoori sandwich was so fire holy shit. a little heavy but so insanely good i can't wait to get it again. i liked it more than the chopped cheese but i liked the lime cilantro tamarind chutney that came w the chopped cheese more

Flavors were pretty good, but the meat was overcooked and the bread was stale and chewy in certain parts of the sandwich. Ended up being a very messy meal. Hope they can improve upon the freshness a little bit next time.

Learned about this place through IG and the fusion concept caught my attention. I was not expecting to end up having the best chopped cheese I've ever tried!! The meat was packed with spice and flavor, and the lime cilantro sauce was a nice touch that kept it interesting. The bread was soft (which I prefer), and the portion size was definitely worth the price, I could barely finish it on my own. The store itself is super small with just a few seats, so I got my order to-go. Staff were friendly, service was quick, and the foil they wrapped it in actually kept it hot all the way home. Definitely will be back.

This place is amazing !! The Pakistani x NYC flavors is such a good combination. I got the chapli kabob chopped cheese with beef. This was almost a foot long's worth with melty cheese, beef flavored with Pakistani spice mixes, and jalapeños on a soft bread. I also added on the chili pickle sauce to add more spice and it was perfect. The ratio of all the fillings was perfect. I will definitely be returning. Service was quick, we ordered at the counter for takeout. There are only a few tables inside and it was busy when we came on a Sunday night so just prepare to possibly not find a table.

Drinks: golden negroni was spot on, but didn't like the sangria. They had a medjool cocktail that went off the menu to my disappointment. Appetizers: the octopus carpaccio was the best and I'd order again. The tuna tartare was a little too heavy on the sauce flavor, and the golden beets were unmemorable. The yellowtail was good I think, but didn't stand out either. Mains: the duck borek has more of a sausage like meat texture. I feel like this place is good, but the white sauce is what makes it. Would I wait another 50 minutes in line, again? Heck to the no - but 1 time? Yes, just to say I tried it. I came in line around 9:45pm and waited approx. 50 minutes before being served. the line just grows and grows.... it is crazy busy! I don't get the line concept here. Because while I was in a long line, when I get to the front, there's another line to the left of the truck... and people seem to be getting their food faster, and the line is like 2x shorter. So that's kind of confusing. Ambience in line and ordering = chaotic. The line is quick in terms of when it is your turn, KNOW what you want. Because you have like 5 seconds to order and that's it. I ordered the special (the spicy rice, lamb and chicken combo, extra white sauce, 3 squirts of hot sauce, and a topped with fries). $13 in total. I would like to say, advice to folks to know what you want before you come. I did not look at menu options beforehand and I did fairly little research so I honestly did not know what to order, just looked at some google reviews and pictures. That is going to help you, in case you do not want the typical lamb and chicken combo. To the food - 1st - they don't care how much hot sauce you want. they're making these bowls in the masses and are just giving you a single squirt so they can make 20 bowls all at the same time. I was hoping for more spice in what I ordered, but it was very slightly spicy. I'm not sure if they let you serve yourself to more, but I'd definitely want more of the hot sauce. 2nd - I didn't taste any spice in the spicy rice. I'm not sure if, again, due to the fast production that it all just taste like regular rice? but didn't see what the hype was there. 3rd - I genuinely think the white sauce is what brings it all together. The chicken was OK to me. I didn't think it was anything special, and would give it a 3 out of 5. texture was OK, flavor was OK... the lamb definitely stole the show. The lamb was absolutely flavorful and full of delicious spices. This reminded me of what I've had in Dubai. Very rich in flavor and just the perfect amount of spices. Overall, I think if you wait for your food to cool down like 20 minutes, you'll get to taste the flavors more. Everything hot together, for me, just didn't allow me to really absorb all the food. But the rice was your average rice. Pita was deliciously soft and pillowy which complemented the white sauce. Chicken was ok. had an OK texture; nothing life changing. lamb was fantastic, and fries were just fries (nothing memorable). For a NYC experience, a 1-time, 50 minute wait is acceptable. And, for $13, that's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. I would eat it again if the line was 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'm positive you will find similar food/better food elsewhere.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

The Benedict was so delicious. I've never had it on a crispy hash brown type before. It was good and a massive portion. Mac and cheese was alright, though I would probably opt out of it next time. I was so full I totally forgot to drink my latte but the latte was good too. Ambiance was nice clean and very busy.

The platter comes with perfectly seasoned chicken over rice, along with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I got the famous white sauce and hot sauce on the side so I could add as much as I wanted, and both took the dish to the next level. The chicken was flavorful, tender, and paired perfectly with the rice. The portion was generous and incredibly filling, making it an excellent value. Everything tasted fresh, and I honestly enjoyed every bite. That said, it was so good I could probably eat two platters! The line was long, but don't let that discourage you it moved steadily and was absolutely worth the wait. Whether you're a local or just visiting NYC, this is one of those iconic spots you have to experience at least once. it!

And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. I've tried adjusting the hot sauce, going easy on portions... doesn't matter. Something about this food and my digestive system just don't agree. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it. The food is tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I just wish I could enjoy it without paying for it twice.
