Don't get the "Irish nachos" with burnt bacon bites on a sliced potato with shredded cheese,pub fries" so greasy or the "espresso martini" so watered down. During our search for dinner on several days, there were so many different places to select from, we never really knew where to land on. One of those evenings we ended up at Hennessey's Tavern as a glance at the menu showed that there would be something for everyone, and indeed that was definitely the case! First up was that they had some good drink choices I never expected from an Irish pub alongside classic choices and all at very reasonable prices, especially for being right near the beach, only two or three blocks. Just like usual I opted for soup, going with their French onion, and then a corned beef sandwich, and I am VERY critical of corned beef anything due to my family deli background. But this sandwich was damn good. Not the best, but really good. High quality corned beef and more on the lean kosher side and the rye bread was also on point. Absolutely delicious! Another highlight was the hand cut and fried potato chips, presumably russets, cooked until they were nice and dark brown for all those wonderful robust and earthy flavors that you don't often get from potato chips unless they're handmade. Everything at Hennessey's was really good and in a fun Irish pub atmosphere. The Guinness also took the meal up a notch as it should. This was definitely a nice stop on our trip and had we more time to spend, we likely would have returned here again simply because of the good selection and the quality to price. If you are in and around Manhattan Beach and you want something that is a little heartier and is centered around that traditional pub vibe, this is definitely the way. I had a party arranged in the upstairs room at Hennessey's on a Saturday night. It was a fun vibe and very lively. Rachel helped us out and Helen was a great server. Our party had a good time and it was chill enough to have conversations. It was a pretty large space that holds about 40 people so it was a mix of tables and standing room. We weren't aware but heads up that checks need to be on one bill and auto gratuity is 20% for large parties. read more

When visiting this area I had to come here for nostalgia purposes! Once upon a time I came here a lot! It hasn't lost its fun vibes. An Irish vibes pub/ restaurant. Super friendly atmosphere and service. I had the watermelon margarita because I love margaritas and I love watermelon. It had tajin on the rim and was super refreshing. Can't visit Hennessey's without a black and tan! The crispy calamari wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable. It was very crispy pieces of what was supposed to be calamari. No taste at all. But add the lettuce it was on, the three sauces and a squeeze of lemon with a dash of salt and it was a light snack. Not greasy at all which is what fried calamari usually ends up being. Parking in Manhattan beach is a pain. Be patient, drive around and the beautiful sunshine. Plenty of cool air conditioning makes this a fun spot to beat the heat. A tad pricey but oh well. I've walked past this spot countless times, always curious about their burgers and fish & chips. After years of bringing out-of-town guests to various Manhattan Beach restaurants, I finally decided to try it with two family members. Our server, Victoria, was exceptional--so kind and attentive that, for the first time, I wasn't entirely honest about the food. I told her it was good, and while it wasn't terrible, it missed the mark. The burger was dry and lacked seasoning, though the bun was soft and perfectly toasted. The fish and chips were battered and fried beautifully, but there wasn't a trace of seasoning--not even a pinch of salt. The biggest letdown? All three orders of fries were barely warm and clearly not fresh. Despite that, my family members had time for dessert before their flight and enjoyed it, though the brownie was overloaded with chocolate. At the end of the day, it's bar food, so I shouldn't have expected much more. On the bright side, I now know where to take guests with simple palates who enjoy standard pub fare. But if you're looking for great service, definitely ask for Victoria! Oh, and in conclusion--I really hate to say this, but I think it's important. I witnessed another server handle a personal hygiene matter with one hand, discard what she did into a napkin and toss it in the trash, then immediately reach into a compartment, pull out a piece of fruit, and move it to another section of that same compartment. Without washing her hands, she then went back in, grabbed a slice of lime, placed it on top of a pink drink, and served it to a customer. This is one of the easiest places to eat in Manhattan Beach, you can almost always get a table and services is fairly friendly. The bacon blue cheeseburger is amazing. It's pub food. The drinks are on the small size especially if you get a greyhound. Be aware that, even though their menu online says they have drink specials, those don't count on holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day. We went here specifically for the mimosas on St. Patrick's Day with a whole bunch of men who were drinking beer and they informed us their mimosas were double price. Hennessey's is in a prime location. If you're at the Manhatten Pier, it's just a four minute walk up the street towards Morningside Drive. After taking a dip in the ocean around 8PM, my friends and I wandered Manhattan Beach Blvd looking for a place that matched our mood in both ambiance and people. I think what drew us in was the live music and cheerful folks singing along with the lyrics. The crowd was not dead nor too serious (which was a plus). I ended up ordering the French Fry Sampler ($11) which provided three fry varieties - spicy, plain and garlic+parmesan (see photos attached), but I got to say, the dipping sauces were not great. I only liked one of the dipping sauces (it was like a BBQ, maybe honey mustard type dip). In terms of services, we were well attended to and without having to flag down the waitress, they kindly made sure my water was refilled and asked me if I needed anything (that's not always the case when at a bar). The women's bathroom was clean. There are two stalls and one sink. This was surprising to me because in my experience bars tend to have messy bathrooms. This was definitely another plus! Lastly, I really like that Hennessey's has social events planned for the month because I think gatherings like Trivia or karaoke night really bring a community together. read more

The bloody Mary was nice and refreshing a good way to start the meal a little spicy without being overwhelmingly hot. I had the pretzel burger and the bun was great had a good chew nice consistency and the meat was cooked perfectly. Juicy and oozing out soaking the pretzel bun and imparting its flavor all over the fries. The pickle was a nice way to cut through all the richness and helped balance the meal. We also go the BLT Avocado crispy bacon on toasted bread with well ripened avocado gave you that fatty delightful combo you are looking for. Kettle potatoes chips nice and crispy rounded out the meal. Their signature cocktails sound good and I'll be sure to try one next time. I've been to both Henesseys in Palos Verdes and here in Manhattan. It's a nice bar with a good ambiance. Our waitress was alright, got our orders correct but didn't have the best energy and didn't often check in on us once the drinks were out. I always find that the service is friendly, and the beer is cold, how can you complain with that bar equation? Add in the fact that their food is good, AND they have a 'Two for One' burger special on Tuesday night, and these locations get a whole lot more interesting. The inside décor is typical, dark wood with an open floorplan and various Irish beer mirrors throughout. You will find several televisions running sports. Warning, unless it is a big game you can expect to hear muzak streaming and not the actual game. On this particular Tuesday I enjoyed my favorite burger, the MOO-CLUCK-OINK! A patty cooked to preference, medium for me, topped with a fried egg, crispy bacon & cheddar cheese. The burger comes with a side of fries and a pickle. They make a good burger! You will usually find some sort of drink specials, their happy hour runs from 4-7, Monday through Friday, and features a variety of drink/beer specials. My favorite being a pint of Guinness, and a side shot of Irish Whiskey for $10. Through the course of writing this review, I went from 3 stars to 4 stars. Food is on point and the vibe is beach casual with good patrons and staff. If I were to guess, I've been to a Hennessey location well over 50 times in my life, something about old habits and comfortable familiarity. read more

Hennessey always has a special plane in my heart because the food is good and decently priced as are the drinks. I live in Redondo Beach but I have been hanging out at the Hennessey in Manhattan Beach for the past few weeks. Not only does it have a better location and view than the Redondo Beach Hennessey it also has better service! The servers in MB are nicer and more thorough. They don't forget about you for a long time or give you an attitude if you don't order a lot of items. The manager is better and more approachable and it has all around better vibes. I always sit at the bar top and on Thursdays Juniper is the bartender and she is awesome. Do you know why they use Juniper berries to make Gin? Because juniper berries are extremely flavorful, and complex. They brighten up what would be a standard boring liquor and can even make it smell like flowers. Well Juniper the bartender is aptly named because she will brighten up your day and make it more complex and flavorful, and if you're lucky your day may even smell like flowers.
