Bluntly rude. Throws the check immediately after ordering, essentially pushing you out. Considering the bar was a little slow her rude manner was completely uncalled for. I hate leaving negative reviews but good customer service starts at the top, and unfortunately the tone ownership gives seems to trickle down. If ownership doesnt value guests, it's hard for the rest of the staff to compensate for that. There are plenty of places to enjoy a nice creamy pint with a respectful-welcoming attitude-- this place just wasn't one of them. read more

The Guinness was unfathomably authentic. I once lived on O'hanlon's corner - a half mile from St.James's Gate. This is a tiny bar, but massively authentic. Pick your time and you'll have a great set of drinks. read more

I would consider myself an occasional visitor to The Irishman but recently I've come across Dre who is one of the bartenders there. What a joy to speak to. She's always smiling and makes everyone feel welcome. She's definitely in charge of the bar in a good way. I can tell she has a lot of experience and more impressively she still seems to love what she does. The Irishman has a good vibe and the patrons are all sociable and ready to say hello to you. Always a returning customer here every St. Patrick's Day to celebrate with my friends. The drinks are great, but the service is even better! I can't believe how attentive the hosts and bartenders were on a Friday night, even as the place was filling up with patrons. I ordered about 6-7 drinks and all came out within the minute that I ordered. Also felt very safe, considering there were rowdy people that the bouncers turned away at the door. Just goes to show The Irishman cares about the customers, and not just easy money. Will continue my yearly tradition here and thank you for always showing my group & I a great time! read more

Getting there: If you head towards BJs, it is a block down. Since it is downtown parking can be hard to find. Experience: Came here with some friends after dinner for a drink. It's a very small pub so I can imagine it gets crowded during the weekends. The bartender was awesome! I didn't really know what I wanted to drink but I asked her to make some something with vodka, but nothing sweet. She came up with something on the fly (super simple: vodka, soda, agave and lemons). I think its my new favorite drink. read more

Been here quite a bit in my earlier 20s but I love this bar. Sarah behind the bar is a pleasure and always on it.. she can take care of the whole place alone. I came here for their first trivia night the other night and it was a good time. Good vibes. Free popcorn and good cold beer. Also there was a large cash prize and $10 entry fee. Next week I think it's the office themed. Cool. read more

The Irishman is my favorite bar in Huntington Beach. It has more of a low-key, locals vibe in comparison to all the bars on Main Street. The bartenders always give awesome service and drinks. I wouldn't go anywhere else for a Guinness or Irish coffee! Go for karaoke on the Saturday night. It's a great time! read more

Ordered a short Kettle One cranberry, then a shot with a splash of cranberry which I watched her pour. All I can say is that they are completely watering down their Vodka. I am 5'1 and 115 lbs, I hadn't eaten all day and I left feeling like I drank water. Just sayin $27 of water to calm down after a funeral. No Bueno, this Local Irishwoman wont be back. read more

I had a great time at this place. I got the best seat in the house when I came. I went straight to the booth and I'm glad I did because I was super close to the bar and restroom. Nothing fantastic about the bar except the people working and enjoying themselves there. Fun little place with a great location (kind of small inside). Bartender a great lady and clientele lead me to new Irish whiskeys to try. Now I'm hooked on Power's whiskey but certainly that's not a bad habit. To quote George Gobel "When I drink, I know my limit, I just pass out before I get there." This can happen here as it is so enjoyable. Cheers! read more

Nothing wow but it was edible since the other two items were such a huge let down. Now service. The lady that served us was very very sweet. However, not a great server. She disappeared and we needed to flag down another server for a refill. She was also not the one that we could talk to about our disappointing food. Another server had to come check on us. I don't think I could convince my husband to come back here, let alone spend money on this. It's unfortunate since I was hoping to share a slice of my former Newport stomping grounds with him.

Max brought us complimentary Flan to share for dessert. There are very few flans I like, because I'm more of a chocolate dessert person. The Irishman has several great things going for it. Let me tell you why it's one of my favorite bars in Down Town Huntington Beach. First and foremost is the excellent service! The bartenders at the Irishman are super friendly and are happy to see you when you come in. They will always make you whatever drink you want and keep the bar nice and clean when you are taken care of. The other great thing is the owner is there almost every time I've been in. Ray is a great guy and always makes sure his bar is running great and everyone is happy. You gotta love that pride of ownership. The bar itself is also awesome. The inside feels very comfortable with a fireplace and mantel, a large booth, about 8 high top tables, and a bar that sites about 7. The bar has several large TVs that are always playing sports. You can bank on seeing every big game there! If there is no game on then its surfing videos to really lock in that Huntington Beach vibe :-) The Irishman also has some good food. The menu is limited to only a few things, but it does include a four cheese mace n cheese, a corned beef sandwich, and a beef cottage (shepherd's) pie that is die for!!! A good shepherds pie is a bitch to make and these guys have it down! I'm talkin sautéed beef with veggies cooked to perfection and then baked with a layer of mashed potatoes covering it. Its under 10 bucks here and tastes great! Its located just a few steps off from main street. This is great since its really easy to find, but does not get crazy packed like some of the other bars in the area. The plan the other day was to go golfing, but it was raining so we had to resort to Plan B: day drinking. Because it was cold and rainy, I got on Yelp and searched for 'bars with fireplaces'. The Irishman popped up. An Irish bar with a fireplace? It was meant to be! I checked out the pics and realized it was a fake fireplace, but that was OK because happy hour runs from noon till 9pm with $5 Guinness and $3 Corona--you just cannot beat that! We hopped in the car and drove over! It's just half a block off Main Street and there is metered parking mere steps from the door. Small, cozy bar, cute fake fireplace--nothing fancy, but it was impossible not to like it. The barmaid was an absolute sweetheart--friendly, chatty and efficient. They have a few big screen TVs with sports on, and Flogging Molly-type Irish music plays in the background. And you can get corona for $3!!! What's not to like?? I didn't give it 5 stars because they don't have food, but they have menus for the pizza place across the street who will deliver your order to the bar. We weren't hungry but we'll definitely check it out next time. Dropped my buddy off at his house afterwards and told his roommate about The Irishman. Every few years I need to write a review for The Irishman. Why? Because it's deserved, but this one is a little different. Today was the first time I've been back due to health reasons. When I got here I was met by the security guy Rob and we had a nice, educational chat. The owner, Ray, came out, saw me, and gave me the, "He's alive" bit. He notices when his people are MIA. I've been coming here regularly for almost 10 years for a reason. Ray does a superb job running his pub authentically. I actually did a video interview a few months ago with Ray to promote his pub. I suggest making your way to Down Town Huntington Beach and having a few drinks here. Best Irish pub anywhere!!! read more
