    Tuesday special
    Brian F.

This bar is located inside the Whole Foods which is interesting because I've never seen a bar inside a Whole Foods before. I came here with a friend on Tuesday hoping to get their Tuesday deal, which was a taco plate and a pitcher of beer for $19. The taco plate had six tortillas so you could make at least six tacos, but they had a lot of carnitas to fill the tacos up. The guacamole was amazing and they give a lot as well! Splitting three each with my friend and about two glasses of beer didn't make me super full though. They have happy hour M-F from 4pm-6pm and they have specials every day of the week that they serve all day. I definitely want to come back and try the other specials that they have. I would recommend!

Bar inside a grocery store is awesome! They have happy hour and a full menu but you can buy food from the store and eat it in the bar area. They also have big screen tvs so it's perfect for game nights. As for food they have different specials throughout the week and they have happy hour from 4 to 6 pm. We got the tacos and pitcher of orange wheat. The taco platter special on tuesday is good for two people. The taco tortillas were too greasy so we had to pat down the excess oil with tissues. The service is decent and the prices are fair.

Awesome new bar at Whole Foods. They used to have a impromptu bar in the back of the store, but now they built a real bar in front of the store. We stopped for happy hour, which is from 4-6 on weekdays. $5 specials on beer and wine. They also have daily specials. We tried the taco Tuesday special. It comes with a platter for 6 tacos and a pitcher of beer. It was a pretty good deal. My only complaint was that the taco tortillas came out way too greasy! They need to do something about that. But overall it's a good addition and I'll definitely be coming back.

WFM taking another crack a in-market fast casual I suppose WFM El Segundo is looking to duplicate the success of the Playa Vista location, which may or may not be the first restaurant inside a WFM. Just opening less than a week ago, and being under construction for many months, I would say that this effort is closer to a Gastro Pub with high end pub grub, draft beer, and select bottles of vino. The interior is a very modern and woody (reclaimed barn I presume) like every other new restaurant this side of 405 with some tables and two large communal raised tables and a long bar. As the restaurant is at the front of the store it is very bright and there is a connected patio. The 2nd can be accessed immediately to the right of the right hand entry of WFM. I guess on the left if you are looking outside from within. As mentioned before, the 2nd is a fast casual concept. There are food and beer menus since all of the draft beers, like 30 or more, need their own menu-shame shame WFM for wasting all of that paper. There is a counter with a big sign saying "order here" immediately to the left as you walk in. In addition to burgers, sandwiches, and small plates, they have a daily special like taco Tuesday for two with a pitcher of beer for $19 or Market Fish Fridays $12, which all are surprisingly affordable, I guess since they don't have to pay rent! I opted for the fish n chips since I felt like going back to work lethargic. After placing my order and paying they handed me a number on a metal stand and off to the communal table I went. I noticed there were people sitting at the restaurant communal table that had "pay by-the-pound" food with their brown containers nearby. I was thinking I am dining with silverware, I do not want this plastic fork wielding riff-raff anywhere near me. The tables behind me were people just hanging out to keep out of the heat. I think this will be a problem if the 2nd gets popular. I don't care, I can be a jerk when it comes to the table I am entitled to sit at! Since I was one of the few people in the restaurant who ordered off the menu my food came out pretty quick. The fish n chips are made with wild caught sustainable Alaskan cod fish like fish n chips should be made (not with salmon or talapia) and are in small chicken tender size pieces. It is served with a house made tartar sauce, but I prefer the stuff out of a 1 gallon tub. I dipped a piece of fish in the tartar sauce, took a bite, and burned the roof of my mouth! Aye! The fish was perfectly seasoned, the batter was crispy and tasty, and I will go out on a limb and say the 2nd fish n chips are the best in the South Bay. The one thing was that the chips were American style french fries and not proper chips, but they use a really good seasoned salt and were hot starchy goodness anyway. If you are at WFM and want an alternative to the other restaurants next door or at the point check this place out. I am already to come by Friday after work for the fish special and glass of chablis.

The rain storm caused the bike rental company to cancel all bike rentals. We called Rockefeller to cancel our lunch reservation, and they were kind enough to offer us an 11am brunch seating. So, the 8 of us decided to make the 45 min drive (in the rain) from the San Fernando Valley to Manhattan Beach, and what a time we had!! *We arrived at this very cute, rustic and cozy pub and were seated immediately. *We were greeted by our fabulous host, Kenn...who kept the mimosas and champagne flowing throughout our meal. *We started with the fried zucchini, chips and guacamole, truffle fries and sweet potato bombs.. Delicious! *Our main consisted of the infamous Sancho Burrito (lived up to the hype), chicken & avocado burrito, French toast, chilaquiles, steak & eggs, cheese omelette and washed it all down with more mimosas! I am not much of a beer drinker. It does not fit my style. Plus, Emily Gilmore implied that it was…read morenitwit juice and Buffy devolved to a Cave person after drinking enchanted beer so these quasi-after-school specials taught me that heathens and their kin drink beer. Of course, I kid, beer can be a wonderful thing, I just rather do cocktails and shots. So I went to Sugar Monkey Brewing because of a different pull: a power point slide show where friends pitch their single friends to strangers for a chance at love or romp. So I went in not knowing much of Sugar Monkey Brewing and I left with clear understanding that this place is an industrial beer oasis near the beach. The contrast of sand and blue on the horizon and the present aluminum lining made me feel like I was seeing a new uncommon mixture that proved that clashing environments can gel to delight. I found parking easily. It was a Saturday early evening, and about a 5 minute walk was where I discovered my spot. I honestly hated that I had to walk those 5 minutes but the walk uplifted my spirits for the weather was California crisp and the air and sky and atmosphere felt safe and proper. I wondered if i had the right place? The streets looked like too industrial. Like I had gone to one of those places that had a lot of factories in rows, but not much else. But I turned a corner and there was Sugar Monkey. Then I realized that a brewery would probably look like a beer factory so this place, with all its steel and pumps, had found its home amongst beach skies. As I walked back to my car, later that evening, I was in slight awe at the pale light blue and orange sky. It was serene, and vast and somehow beach appropriate. The water tower iin a picture I took was a nice touch as it reminded me of the Animaniacs, especially Wakko and Dot. I arrived after the first presentation was on its way. I started to listen intently to understand the dynamics because this all seemed so weird yet plausible. Like a dating auction turned fun not hokey or corny? The person was hyping up her friend J. Apparently, he spoke many languages, and hiked and did all these other stuff that were meant to induce attractions. Then she asked, What can he do? And she then explained how she was going to make a joke and that no one needed to fear going to hell if they laughed. And she then reveal that the thing he can't do is SEE because he was blind. The joke was in good taste. The joke, at least to me, carried disability pride. She had revealed that he was different because his sight was different to a crowd of would be judges and suitors. The strength of the duo was refreshing, dare I say, more than the beach breeze. Being witness to this moment made me feel like I had seen a beautiful moment and one I never imagine I would see. And for this reason alone, my trip to Sugar Monkey was more than fun, it was heart-opening. The place itself is cool. Their outside was a huge garden like setting. The place had pool, however, the patio is crowded so I am not sure how people can play if too many people are there. Another thing I saw- that is a credit to this place- is that it had a wheelchair elevator. So if someone was chilling in the patio and wanted to chill in their wooded floor area- where the bar was they could use the wheelchair lift, if they could not use their legs. The place had also had kind of like an off-beat personality. It had a British phone, an astronaut that seemed to have hit a space that painted him with grafitti flare, and beers with names like green means go. I think I would go to this place again, for the beer and the air and to Karaoke. I loved this place and the activity it hosted!

Our downside (and almost gave a 2/3 star because of this) the parking and signage- or lack there of. The lot that their one sign say don't park here- go there.. that lot has warnings all over saying "bizhouse only" "bizhouse permit required". Also no signage showing how the lot connects back over to sugarmonkey. Really really frustrating. Yeah, sure there's street parking, if you can find it. Please work with the neighboring properties to add some signage. We work locally and folks would love this (many hadn't heard of it) but with the hard parking I can see many blowing this off.

The trash was overflowing, the toilet seat covers were smashed into the inserts, and there was paper all over the floor. Bathroom: 1/5. I sat down, and the menus were already on the table. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to order, so we started with a lemonade and a tea. We ordered the Clobster roll with fries, and I ordered the Connecticut Style lobster roll with no fries and a side salad. The side salad with ranch dressing definitely hit the spot! Unfortunately, the Cajun shrimp roll didn't do it for me. It needed more flavor and mostly tasted like mayo. After two bites, I decided not to eat it and gave it to my son. He enjoyed his meal, though! I also ordered another lobster roll to go, along with a soda and fries, for a friend of mine who works down the street at the barbershop. I was also gifted a juice and a huge cookie, which was a nice touch! If there's one thing I'd change, it would definitely be the bathroom. Other than that, I enjoyed the TVs, the overall look and feel of the place, the area, and especially the guitars and décor. Those details really gave the restaurant some character. Would I come back? Yes -- but I'd definitely try something different next time. Thank you, Rudy! Overall rating: 3.8/5
