This is the coolest little diner in Vermont. Great breakfasts and very friendly waitresses. Hannah helped us choose what we wanted and her recommendations were spot on: The Eggs Benedict are the best I've ever had - there are a half dozen varieties of Benedicts to choose from! The pancakes are amazing also. Sitting at the counter I was able to chat up the waitresses a bit and it was obvious that they all loved working there. Hannah also offered great suggestions for things to do around town and things to see. My great-grandparents frequented here in their rebel years and it's not hard to see why this joint is still in business. No dish provided will change your life, per se, but everything's done with integrity and the staff really makes you feel at home. Love this place! I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend and within 1 minute we were seated. Despite being a small space, they made it work with many chairs and booths! Onto the food, delicious! I ordered a sandwich and we had to wait about 15 minutes. Despite the wait, it was worth it! The food was good and my friend liked her dish as well. Went here for breakfast with my husband. Sat at the counter. I had the bacon & scallion scramble, minus the scallions, and the hash brown casserole. DELICIOUS. My husband had the ham bone special. He ate it all except for the hash brown casserole. While I really loved the casserole (cheesy goodness), he was not a fan. Our waitress, Emily, was terrific. Super old school diner with a line up on the weekends and friendly staff who move it along quickly and serve up piles of deliciousness. I only went once but my friends went both mornings when we were recently in town, they loved their waitress, and the super affordable classic breakfasts. I ate some kind of delicious mish mash of homefries, bacon and veggies and it was soooo good. The coffee was diner bad, but they just keep giving to you so that's lovely! We used to go here for breakfast once a week when I was visiting Burlington, and will now probably go a few times a month now that we live here. No frills, lots of classics on the menu. I usually go for some sort of combo plate and everything is cooked to order with a smile. This most recent time I got the Vermonter: a little cast-iron filled with hash browns, corned beef, melted cheddar, two eggs the way you like, and toast (or, in my case, English muffin). We NEVER go out to eat now, since we have a 22 month old son. I mean, NEVER. But- hubby wanted to go out to a diner when we were on vacation in Vermont, and I remembered seeing the signs for Henry's, so we gave it a try. There aren't a HUGE amount of veggie items to choose from. I got pancakes and a side of home fries, and hubby got a Spanish omelette. The waitress took a few minutes to get to us, but once she got our order, the food came really fast (which was good). They charge you $2 extra if you want Pure Vermont Maple Syrup, but I said no, I would take the other stuff (the waitress called it "Fake"). You don't have to travel far for a good diner meal. The inimitable Henry's Diner has been a Burlington staple since the late 1960's. Currently the restaurant is closed for renovations and updating. The plan is to have everything up and running before the students return in mid- August. That is a good thing as nothing last forever and periodic deep cleaning and upgrading to current specs works in everyone's best interest. Owned by the consortium that includes the Apollo Diner in Milton, Athena Diner in St. Albans and Athens Diner in Colchester, Henry's is a well run operation and the current overhaul attest to the owners commitment to do things right. On two visits just before the remodeling a duo of breakfast staples were sampled. On the first visit the standard breakfast that serves as a benchmark for all others was ordered. A bacon, onion and cheddar omelet, white toast double extra butter and home fries with grilled onions were ordered. The server took my order like she had been doing this all of her life. All of the wait staff were young, women that seemed to have experience beyond their young years. From my seat at the counter in front of the kitchen window it was easy to see the professional execution of their duties and that of cooks as well. The omelet was served the plate was overflowing with breakfast goodness. On first bite you could tell this was going to be a good meal. Building on melted cheese on the floor on the omelet, next three full slices of crisp bacon and then a layer of golden onions before the entire package was folded over. Henry's serves up extra thick slices of what tasted like homemade bread that was toasted to a medium and buttered as requested. A mound of home fries completed the plate and filled whatever free space was left on the large platter. Boy was it good. On a second visit what has become a house special the corned beef hash skillet was ordered. As described in other reviews a tremendous amount of food is served in this dish. I'm a plate licker from way back and Henry's Diner beat me as I couldn't finish it. A layer of home fries, homemade corned beef hash, two eggs over medium and the double extra well buttered toast did me in. The only caveat to be aware of is that on weekends Henry's is very popular. It's not unusual for a line of college aged patrons, recovering from the previous night's bacchanal to be stretched out to about 20 or so deep. Other than that Henry's gets high ratings for serving up fairly priced, good quality food that will stick to your ribs. Who knows it might make you forget about all that Goldschlager and Patron that you drank the night before. Stopped in at Henry's after we slept in a dirt parking lot. Everyone was extremely friendly and the service was prompt. The bathroom was a 'onesie', perfect for the traveling vagrant, and immaculately clean. The Americana aesthetic and decor were both executed flawlessly. Nobody and i mean nobody washes their hand at this restaurant ... I mean don't get me wrong but most people in Burlington seemed to enjoy this place. The line outside is long and cold and yes They do make you wait outside. Food was good. People were putting their hands in the coffee grinder other people were using their hands to make the French toast pick up the bacon and put down the bacon no gloves at all. Omg so good! I got a breakfast sandwich with bacon, extra crispy (that ACTUALLY came extra crispy! ) egg, and cheddar cheese on a biscuit with home fries. At first I was turned off by how the biscuit fell apart after I cut the sandwich in half, but after I ate it with the fork, it didn't matter. The flavor. Omg. The home fries are the little cubes of potatoes, seasoned and cooked perfectly! (A little on the well done side, which I love.) my husband got French toast with bacon well done as well. Henry's Diner was great! Sat down immediately and greeted with an extremely friendly wait staff. Prices are fair and the food is amazing. Portion sizes are big so you won't leave hungry. Parking meters that accept credit cards are directly in front of the diner but there is a free parking garage down the street. We ended up at Henry's because we were pressed for time and couldn't hold out for Penny Cluse. They told me 5 minutes, but had to deliver the news that the table they thought was leaving was actually staying. The solution: 2 booths next to each other?...Sold! Our group split up into guys and gals, and it turned out great! Our waitress was so friendly and accommodating and helped everyone order the right things. I ended up with the Little Henry which came with a bit of everything and included Cabot butter and Vermont maple syrup. My friend who ordered sausage gravy over biscuits was in love... This is my favorite breakfast spot in town. They have good food and a fast staff. I think it might have the shortest wait period out of all the breakfast spots around church st. The manager coordinating the throngs of people here on a Sunday morning was polite, friendly and efficient. Very cute little spot right off of church street. Nothing fancy, pretty old school. The menu is large and it's usually pretty packed on the weekends. The portions are large but not too large. I had a special, Tuscan eggs Benedict, which was really good. My friend had one of their skillets, which is a skillet filled with potatoes, eggs, and in his case, meats. He loved it. The coffee is also good, which is important to me. Sometimes you just really need a diner breakfast. If you're in the downtown Burlington area, I think Henry's is a good place to go. read more
