Jonathan, the so-called "new manager" and Henry's nephew, is running what feels like an outright scam. I was a loyal customer of Henry for over 15 years. Henry was a kind, honest man with integrity. What his business has become under his nephew's control is unrecognizable and disgraceful. Jonathan charged me $607.70 to replace the soles on four pairs of ballet flats that originally cost $120 per pair. That price is absurd and indefensible. I did not personally pick them up--someone else did--because had I been there myself, I would never have agreed to or paid such a predatory charge. To make matters worse, Jonathan had the audacity to claim he was giving me a $250 "discount," stating that the work would have otherwise cost $857.40. That is not a discount--it is an insult. He then falsely claimed I was charged for five pairs when I only dropped off four, and the fifth pair was brought later due to a missing shoe. This was clearly explained at the time. His explanation was dismissive, entitled, and dishonest. Jonathan actually told me I should be grateful and thank him for making my shoes "look new" at this price. That level of arrogance toward a long-standing customer is unacceptable. This business now appears to prey on customers it assumes have money, abusing trust and inflating prices without transparency or integrity. Henry would be deeply disappointed to know how his name and legacy are being exploited. If Henry's wife is reading this: you deserve to know that your nephew's behavior is driving away loyal customers and damaging everything Henry built. His conduct is rude, money-hungry, and completely lacking in decency. After 15 years of loyalty, I will never return. Keep the shoes. This experience was appalling. read more

The only place i go for my shoe and purse repair. It is a bit pricey, but my shoes look brand new after taking them in for a cleaning. I recently had to pop in to get my Dior shoes relaced as the monogram is supposed to appear at the bottom, and they did it right there in about 30 seconds. I've had them replace the lining of a backpack as well and they did a very nice job. Worth the price in my opinion as the work is long lasting. I used to send so many referrals to this business and I will no longer be giving them any business. Their prices are insane and their counter person Jonathan is extremely rude. When I dropped the items off, Jonathan said that they would call to see if I wanted to move forward with one of the items once they had a price quote. Months went by, the call never came, and I called again. They said they did not have one of the items and did not know where it was. They said they'd look for it and call me back. No callback, I called again weeks later to see if they found it. They found the belt inside the bag I dropped off. They never called with any price quotes as promised. When I picked up the items I was charged almost $600 for very basic work, replacing 4 pairs soles and some work on a bag and a belt. Their pricing is unconscionable and now that I'm going through the items, the work was not done well. After years of supporting this business, I will never be returning. The gentleman who was here for years before Jonathan would always do what he promised, and he would go through the items at pick-up to confirm the work was done properly and to my satisfaction. He used to price quote in advance for me and would help find lower-priced solutions where possible. When I asked about the former employee, Jonathan told me that he was fired "for being shady". However, in my experience, the former employee provided some of the best and most helpful customer service I've ever seen. For the wildly high prices they charge, they should really consider treating customers with respect and decency and doing what they promise to do. read more

Very bad (and bizarre) experience. I have had shoes repaired here for years and always been happy with the repairs and service. I just went to pick up a pair of shoes I had taken in to have new tips put on. Ordinary repair. They just asked me for $78 dollars! The person at the front (who I haven't seen before) told me that when they put new rubber tips on the front of the shoes they automatically waterproof and refurbish them! These shoes are mules. They have no back. Waterproof? Why? When I explained that I've had the same thing done multiple times without incident, I was told that I should have asked the prices each time. BTW, they are Steve Madden shoes. They didn't cost much more than $78 brand new. I chose not to retrieve them. Better to buy a new pair. I can't imagine what they are thinking, but I bet they will have a whole inventory of people's used shoes soon, instead of revenue. read more

I had a pair of Tabi boots that were a couple years old that needed a repair on the right shoe. Due to the nature of the boot the seam between the toe on the right shoe was coming undone and unfortunately Maison Margiela was unable to do the repair in-house since the boots were a gift and I did not purchase directly from their location. They actually referred me to Henry's so I walked across the street to see what could be done. Henry's was so helpful and honest about what could be done to fix the stitches and realistic in my expectations that they might not look identical. By the end of the week my shoe was repaired and its been perfect ever since! Henry's was a terrible experience. I generously gave 2 stars because my shoes were indeed fixed but the customer service deserves 0 stars and for how incredibly offensive the staff was. I dropped an expensive pair of leather sandal to be repaired and inquired at the time of drop off about the price of repair and was quoted $18-22. Which I'm used to only paying $10-12 in Dallas, but no big deal. I tried to pick them up a little before 5:30 several times and they do seem to lock the doors a little early. I wasn't in the biggest rush to get them and could walk there, and everyone is a little off right now with the pandemic. When I finally was able to pick up they told me it'd be $46. I told them that's not what I was quoted and be happy to pay $22 and that I would not pay $46. I even have text message proof with the quoted amount they previously told me. The guy behind the counter said to take them and they no longer want my business, confirmed my first and last name and put me on some sort of do not service list. Which I suppose says how many people they upset that they have a readily available list. I spend hundreds a year, maintaining designer shoes and having them resoled and was happy to have this place right around the corner. I've honestly never experienced something so offensive by a small business that I was extremely happy to support. My experience here went from positive to negative. I had shoe with a sole that needed glue, I called ahead to get a quote of the cost and a very nice woman (Henry's widow) assessed the situation and gave me a price. It was reasonable and I walked the shoe over for repair. She looked at the problem, honored the quote on my ticket and said I could pick it up the next day. When I went to pick it up a gentleman was there instead, he was related to the women (nephew I believe). I had forgotten to bring my ticket but was able to describe the shoe and the problem so he was able to find it. He brought the shoe out , looked at the bottom and said "they even nailed it for you to make sure it doesn't detach"...first of all I know my shoe and I know the nails were there (I have the other to compare it too), second, I hope you inform me before you nail my Dolce & Gabanna shoe. The worst part is, he said it would be nearly double the price I was initially quoted. I told him about my initial quote and he countered with a price lower than what he initially said, but higher than what I was quoted when I brought the shoe in. He explained the woman who gave me initial quote wasn't aware of the labor that goes into preparing the shoe. I respected his case for the increase, and didn't fight it beyond that, but it left a bad taste in my mouth...it felt a bit "car salesman-y." I can't help but wonder if i was being taken advantage of in that situation. I came here to replace the soles of 2 pairs of Gianvitto Rossi heels because my original shoe repair had relocated 45 minutes away. The job they did was very poor, they did not consider the delicate frame of the shoe and just slapped on a thick sole below. I was very shocked and upset and it was my first time here and now my last. They did not take responsibility for a job poorly done, especially on $800 shoes. as you will see below the paint job on the soles was appealing and the thick sole changed the whole delicate view of the shoe. The gentleman who had helped me told me he could not refund me but would give me store credit. They also said they have had maybe one other complaint in years. I have actually created a yelp account just to inform people of this and spare you from the same occurrence. I took my shoes to Andre no1 instead (yes I travelled the 45 minutes) and they fixed the sole and make it flush with the shoe. read more

Normally it doesn't cost more than $5-$6 so I just sat down without asking how much is it. A few minutes later the guy is charging me $12. I said wow, that's kinda expensive in a amused tone. The man behind the counter said "well, this is Beverly Hills, the rent is high" in straight up rude and aggressive manner. Dude! They truly did a wonderful job on my $10000000 Feragamo boots. They needed new heels and soles and they look as good as new or something like that. Maybe they could have shined them up but perhaps that was an additional charge. Also for Beverly Hills, the price was right. Anyway, this reminds me of an old Orson Bean story and it goes like this: A man (Irving)was going through an old suit. He finds a ticket from a shoemaker going back over 20 years. He states, "O my goodness, I forgot about those old shoes. It has been years. I wore them during the Nixon Administration and I know that old shoemaker Savatore still exists on 72nd Street and Broadway and I will head down there tomorrow, Wednesday." Wondering if the old shoemaker would still have the shoes he was hopeful. Just think, since then we have had the cell phone, the electric car and the Khardasians. What a time of wonder. I've been coming to Henry's for years, mostly to clean and restore vintage shoes and bags, and several pairs of vintage Lucchese boots that belonged to my father. They have always done an amazing job - the items look as great as the day they were bought some 30-40 years ago. The quality of workmanship is obviously 5-star, but you don't just come here for that. The owner, Henry, is really why you do. He cares so much about his customers, and always has a smile on his face. No matter the job, he can do it. The most unfriendly experience of my life. Yelled at me for having the audacity to call his store. I work nearby and wanted to simply check that the store was open and whether they sell shoe laces (I also needed a repair). He simply hung up on me for calling. A called again, and the experience fared no better. I don't often review, but I was compelled to review on this occasion. Despite my need for a repair, I will go out of my to avoid this place. Absolutely rude. I dropped off a belt - he basically didn't want to fix it..."too much work". Um ok. I wanted the belt fixed so I left it anyway. It was supposed to be ready on a Tuesday. I went to get the belt on Tuesday and he told me he had another job that "he had to do before mine". He hadn't even started on the belt, nor had the common business acumen to call and let me know he needed more time. Ironically, when I came in, he told me it would only take 15 mins to fix. Essentially, he forgot? Is that what happened?! I said I just wanted to take the belt at which point, he slammed the belt on the counter. Henry is amazing at what he does! I have brought him several smaller jobs and he has done an amazing job on all of them. Recently, I brought him a very difficult project, which required a couple of visits for fitting purposes and he totally nailed it. My knee-high studded designer boots were not even close to zipping over the middle of my calf and he put in a perfect pie shaped strip of new leather to accommodate me. I thought they were a lost cause and now they are perfect. The price was right as well, especially for the amount of extra time and effort he put in to making them just right for me. read more
