I went ahead and made the appointment because I figured if they are in the business to do blood draws, surely they have encountered tiny veins like mine. Unfortunately for me, that was not the case. The tech was kind and I was hopeful, but he was not able to get the needle in my vein. I prefer not to let them "dig" for it and, to his credit, he didn't seem to want to do that to me. He offered to let me sit for a few minutes and then try again. I declined. TLDR; if you have tiny veins, are a "hard stick" or need any other type of "accommodation, you'll be better off at a Quest Lab location.

I visited the clinic to be examined for possible concussion. I arrived at the clinic at about 10:30 AM. After paperwork (identification, insurance, symptoms etc.) I saw Dr. Hopkins within 15 minutes. She examined, diagnosed and discharged me all within 20 minutes. She was thorough, efficient and caring. I was back at my office by 11:15 AM. I don't think I have ever had such efficient care from any medical facility in my life. And Mary, the receptionist was wonderful, thorough and compassionate. She never hurries me or makes me feel like she doesn't want to see me. I like the fact that all tests are run in the building, so there is no running all over town for blood work, X Rays and such. Dr. O'Brien is also very positive. She accentuates the good things that I have done to improve my health. This makes me want to try even harder. She is very thorough and very knowledgeable. I am so glad that a friend recommended her to me. She no longer takes new medicare patients. Another huge plus for me is that she is always on time. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes after my appointment time. The only negative aspect is that you have to pay for parking. This makes me feel like the Group is money hunger. A week into my recovery, the wrap covering my leg from knee to toes began to come loose -- something my doctor said could be carefully re-wrapped, but which would be extremely difficult for me to manage on my own due to the extent of my injuries. I came to OnPoint, expecting to receive a few minutes of basic assistance and was stunned when the clerk conferred with the medical staff and informed me that re-wrapping is "not something they get involved with." When I said that I found it hard to believe they would prefer I go home and attempt this myself rather than offer minimal help, I received only a shrug. Since I can't drive myself -- it is my right ankle that is broken -- I had to arrange to be be taken to AFC Urgent Care on Weslayan, where the staff took a few moments to assess my situation and re-wrapped the loosened area without hesitation. They even invited me to return if the wrap should come loose again before my follow-up appointment. I understand urgent care facilities have limitations, but refusing to spend five minutes assisting a patient with a serious fracture -- particularly one who cannot simply drive herself elsewhere -- reflects poorly on this practice. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend OnPoint to anyone in a vulnerable sitution.

Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate.
